Don't Tell Media Attacks On Israel Increased Since Hamas Elected

As pro-Palestinian media members blame Israel for the recent hostilities in that part of the world, there's an incontrovertible truth being shamefully ignored: rocket and mortar attacks coming from Gaza into Israel have dramatically increased since Hamas won parliamentary elections in January 2006.

Such was reported by the Intelligence & Terrorism Information Center Thursday in an analysis that seems destined to garner little attention in the States (h/t LGF, photo courtesy AP):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

The year 2008 saw the peak of rocket use by Hamas and the other terrorist organizations operating in the Gaza Strip. Last year, the terrorist organizations managed to significantly increase the scope of rocket attacks. They gradually put nearly one million Israeli civilians living in the south (about 15 percent of the entire population) within the range of the rockets, and posed a security challenge to Israel, prompting it to launch Operation Cast Lead. [...]

Following are three major characteristics of the use made by Hamas and the other terrorist organizations of rockets during 2008 (see chapter on statistical data for details):

a. A dramatic increase in the extent of rocket fire and mortar shelling despite the six months long lull in the fighting: in 2008, the peak year of rocket fire and mortar shelling, a total of 3,278 rockets and mortar shells landed in Israeli territory (1,750 rockets and 1,528 mortar shells). That is a significant increase compared to 2007 (the number of landings in 2008 more than doubled) and compared to the previous years of the Palestinian terrorist campaign.
b. A significant increase in the number of Israeli residents exposed to rocket fire within 40 km of the Gaza Strip: before 2008, the city of Sderot (about 20,000 residents) as well as villages around the Gaza Strip were the preferred target of rocket fire and mortar shelling. In 2008, other cities and hundreds of thousands of Israelis gradually entered the circle of fire: first the cities of Ashkelon and Netivot, and later, during Operation Cast Lead, Ashdod, Beersheba, and other cities within a range of 40 kilometers from the Gaza Strip. The rocket attacks created a new reality in which nearly one million Israeli residents (about 15 percent of the entire population) are exposed to rocket fire and mortar shelling in various levels of intensity.
c. A significant improvement in the effectiveness of rockets and mortar shells possessed by Hamas and an increase in their quantity: in 2008, Hamas put into use 122-mm Grad launchers (for ranges of 20.4 km and approximately 40 km) and standard 120-mm mortars, which were smuggled into the Gaza Strip (in our assessment, from Iran). Those standard rockets and mortars, significantly different from self-manufactured rockets and mortars, not only increased the range of fire but also increased its effectiveness. That is a result of increasing the rockets’warhead size and their fragmentation. As for the mortars—the standard 120-mm mortars are more precise and their range is greater than that of the other mortarspossessed by Hamas and the other terrorist organizations.

Take a look at the following charts and see for yourself what's been happening in Gaza since Hamas took over:

Looks like there's a 1 year backlog on mortars

with Hamas' supplier, but rockets are either aplenty or they were well stocked at the time they won election.  TIC.

The media at this moment are

The media at this moment are formulating their narrative on how this spike in attacks is really Israels fault.

The MSM is becoming another

The MSM is becoming another mouthpiece for Hamas.  And this is not so surprising; they hate this country, as their enthusiasm for the shoe chucker clearly revealed.

Impunitas semper ad deteriora invitat.

logic

Formulating smoormulating, just apply AGW (Al Gore Warming) logic to the problem.

  1. Israel's fault if: attacks on Israel increase.
  2. Israel's fault if: attacks on Israel decrease.

This can be simplified to:

  • It Israel's fault! OR
  • Israel has attacked itself. (fold space back on itself until up is down)

Just think, soon you and I will be subsidizing articles that use the above logic for a significant amount of their "reporting". I mean much more than we are now.

Why is the media spreading deceitful Palestinian propaganda?

The news coverage that I have been hearing about Israel's retaliation against Hamas, has always included emotionally charged, deceitful comments from sympathetic sounding Palestinians. I have seen several news reports that showed bombed-out living quarters with children's toys and dolls conspicuous amongst the rubble. Then you hear mournful Palestinians accusing Israel of indiscriminately killing Innocent Palestinian women and children.

The truth is that the Palestinians have been lobbing rockets into Israel for over 2 years from the Gaza Strip. Thousands of rockets and mortar shells have been targeted at Israeli civilians. All the Israelis are asking them to do, is to stop these attacks. The Israeli government has said that it would halt the military strikes on Gaza, if Hamas would stop firing rockets into Israel. However, Hamas continues to fire rockets into Israel. You might say that the ball is in the Palestinians' court. They could stop Israel's retaliation simply by halting their attacks on Israeli civilian populations.

On the other hand, Israel is targeting only military targets and Hamas headquarters, not civilians. Often Hamas uses women and children as shields to protect their supply of weapons. They store them in schools, hospitals, holy mosques and residential buildings to dissuade the Israelis from attacking them. The Palestinians use Israel's superior character and morality as a defense. If the Israelis bomb these strategic targets despite the human shield, then the Palestinians claim that Israel is targeting innocent women and children to gain sympathy from the world media. It is Hamas who is putting their own citizens at risk, not Israel. Why is the American media not making this clear.

Exactly

Gary,

I couldn't have said it better myself.  I'm sick of hearing about horrible Israel from the idiots in the media.  Israel has shown more restraint than I ever could in such a situation.  They should be praised, not demonized.

 Hamas intentionally

Hamas intentionally targets Israeli women and children. That's a given.

However, Hamas also intentionally targets Palestinian women and children.

Hamas deliberately locates its rocket sites and terror bases in Palestinian population centers. They know that Israeli counterstrikes, no matter how precise, will injure or kill civilians.

If the world truly cared about Palestine they would condemn Hamas as the single greatest mass murderer of both sides.
