Our first entrant is an absolutely astounding classic from Max Fleischer circa 1934 embedded right.

And another from Fleischer that is supposedly the first Popeye (circa 1933):

Thanks for these treats.

Thanks for these treats.  Brings back fond memories even if I lament the direction most cartoons have taken.  The creativity shown in these is absent in current children's programming.

The greats in animation

That Popeye cartoon was indeed Popeye's debut in 1933 with Betty Boop.  The first voice of Popeye was William Costello, or Red Pepper Sam as heard on the radio.  Mae Questel was Olive Oyl for most of the run.  Those early Popeyes were made in New York and the background and tone reflect in those cartoons.  In 1936, Costello got into a bickering match with Paramount/Fleischer and was fired.  The man who took over was imitating Costello and was just some go-between.

He was Jack Mercer, and from 1936 up until his 1985 death, he served as Popeye's voice, complete with the adlibbed mumbling that endeared him to Popeye fans like myself.  A suggestion, go out and get the Popeye cartoons on DVD from Warner.  They feature the black and white era with three 20-minute color features.  You will find out this info and more!  Eight DVDs in three volumes.

I don't know about the rest

I don't know about the rest of you, but the Porky learns about patriotism is the way I think is should be taught. These people who want to do away with the pledge, ugh, I just get sick thinking about all our forefathers had to go through just for that right, and people want to throw it away, like it is some horrible thing. Some act as if we should be ashamed to be patriotic. Sorry, I just don't get it.

Good stuff, but who the

Good stuff, but who the heck has the time to watch all these?

Noel, Warner, A Question

Pardon a technologically challenged old fart, but what are "PM's"?  I've seen them referenced several times, most recently when Noel chided PT for not alerting him to a tip, and PT's response was (paraphrasing)  "I did- check your morning PM's".
