Christmas Lights Are Bad For the Planet

Here's an announcement that will please atheists and climate alarmists alike: Christmas lights are bad for the planet because they cause global warming.

So says the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, Australia's national science agency.

Bah humbug, I kid you not.

As reported by the Courier and Mail this Christmas Eve:

SCIENTISTS have warned that Christmas lights are bad for the planet due to huge electricity waste and urged people to get energy efficient festive bulbs.

CSIRO researchers said householders should know that each bulb turned on in the name of Christmas will increase emissions of greenhouse gases.

Dr Glenn Platt, who leads research on energy demand, said Australia got 80 per cent of its electricity by burning coal which pumps harmful emissions into the atmosphere. [...]

Dr Platt added: "For a zero-emission Christmas light show, you may consider using solar powered lights or sourcing your electricity from verified green power suppliers."

As it's too late for most readers to comply with CSIRO's wishes this holiday season, maybe you should return all of the gifts you've purchased for your loved ones and buy carbon credits to offset what's indirectly emanating from your Christmas lights.

Think of it this way: you wouldn't just be saving the planet; you'd be giving Nobel Laureate Al Gore the best possible present for he's taken quite a beating on his green investments this year.

Merry Christmas.

Can't we just kill them?

Holy God,  I mean what the hell.  It's one thing to have an opinion, but when you are out there fomenting panic the way these lefty morons are, I say *BAM*.  Free speech does not give you the right to yell FIRE in a crowded movie theatre.

"What you can not enforce, do not command" -Sophocles-

Tell you what. Why don't you clean up your speech first?

Or is murder preferable to debate?

Free speech doesn't give you the right to wish for the deaths of people with whom you disagree.

Your remarks are out of line.  Please clean them up, or else delete them.

Now.

I thought killing humans

I thought killing humans stops global warming? Gore! Klaatu barada nikto!

I thought that was a typo...

...but how do we know that Gore isn't really working for Klaatu?

--Mike

www.thebrattonreport...

Actually I doubt Klaatu has

Actually I doubt Klaatu has enough money. Gore follows the green and not the 'green' his followers believe.

Well, now, think about it!

The monotone he usually employs, the red glow coming from his eyes...

debate

I'm sorry Mikey. 'Wishing for the deaths of people with whom you disagree' is not a FREE SPEECH issue. A person can wish for anything and it is NO ONEs business.

I can wish that ALL Liberal maroons would jump off a bridge (not the Golden Gate) and that wish would be no one elses business. If I were begin pushing them off then someone else might have something to say about it.

I think YOUR remarks are out of line since you are trying to stiffle someone elses freedom of speech (hey now i'm out of line LOL).

Oh and YES, killing (not always murder, some people deserve it) is preferable to ddebate in most cases.

Merry Christmas!!!

Don't try to teach a Liberal to think. It wastes your time and annoys the Liberal

It Had to Happen

I could have predicted this years ago. This is the logical progession of ideas that only emerge occasionally from a echo chamber. When they do, they sound oddly incoherent and backward to those of us not encApsulated in their chamber.

The only way ideas like this can mean anything is when it is taken seriously by us. I suggest rejecting it as the ideological trash it is--just another attack aginst Christians.

Stop everything!

Everything we do causes global warming. Let's stop everything we do for the sake of mother earth! In fact it is  man's obligation to commit suicide so that man will not harm Mother Earth. Oh wait decomposing bodies will cause global warming, d#m.<sarc off>

This global warming alarmism is getting to be as bad as the "blame Bush for everything" syndrome.

Exactly!

Since Gore and his minions believe wholeheartedly that CO2, which we all exhale, is a Greenhouse gas thats damaging the planet, I suggest that all the greens/environmentalists actually put their money where their mouths are for once and commit mass suicide. This will put a huge dent in carbon emissions world wide, since Gore and his followers actually exhale more CO2 than an average person due to their constant yammering away on all things "green".

Of course, none of these hypocrites would ever dream of that. They believe their lives are actually more precious than the aerage human because its their duty to raise "awareness" of global warming and they couldn't do that if they were dead, now could they?

Christmas lights are bad for

Christmas lights are bad for the planet because they cause global warming.

Looks like there is no shortage of dim bulbs in Australia.

Who wants to bet that if we

Who wants to bet that if we find ourselves cooling to the point of starting another ice age fear that the proposed human solution will not involve buying an SUV or Christmas lights. Or any of the various items blamed for the warming cycle that ended in 1998.

Is there no piece of joy

Is there no piece of joy that the eco-parasites don't want to ruin for others?

There is no end to the

There is no end to the lunacy that the Christmas-haters will come up with to try and make all of us feel guilty in some way for trying to enjoy the season.

Next they'll be bitching about all the trees that were cut down to make all the wrapping paper, gift boxes and shopping bags.

They are already moaning about all the cars idling in traffic around shopping malls.

Then it will be that the glass used to make tree ornaments is a waste of energy and sand.

Then it will be the gasoline-powered grinders that are used to mulch Christmas trees when its all over for contributing to pollution.

Then, they'll suggest everybody buy an artificial tree for next year, then turn around and gripe about the amount of plastic used to manufacture same.

Oh, and lets not forget all the precious landfill space all the wrapping paper, gift boxes, etc., is going to take up when it is unceremoniously thrown away by us overly-consumerized, excessive-consumption type people.

Let's face it, these people are liberals, which means by and large they are wretchedly miserable, self-loathing types who never have any fun, and hate anyone who does.

I think they should just be ignored.

You know, I think that next year I am going to add about 2500 lights to my outdoor display, if for no other reason than to cheese-off the Australian climate-weenies, as I am sure they will be able to pick out my house in a nocturnal satellite photo.  :-)

Merry Christmas everybody!

What is this Dr Platt a ...

What is this Dr Platt a doctor of, comic releif? The more these folks open their mouths, the more rediculous they sound. They need to do more research and less running off at the mouth.

Thanks for the update on this fringe element of society, Noel.

Noel, may you and yours have a very Merry and Blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year. I will keep my lights burning to celebrate this joyous time.

Remember folks, Freedom isn't Free. It was bought with the blood and sacrifice of the men and women who are serving and who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

For those who fought for it, Freedom has a flavor that the protected will never know.

Lighten Up

I think Dr. Glenn Whackjob and his contemporaries should sit back, relax, put a little extra spike in their eggnog and enjoy the best light show of the season.

http://www.youtube.c...

Then in the new year perhaps they could explain to me how having one extra molecule of co2 for every 10,000 molecules in the atmosphere causes global warming.

Lighten up is right!

Here's another light it up....amazing (grace) ending!

I've turned on two of my trees already, and may turn the icicles on outside, seeing as it's a warm 78 degrees...I need some cooling/

  I have some real icicles

I have some real icicles I can send you.  We've got cold and snowy, decorations inside and out, the house smells of fresh baked bread ahhh... a rural Christmas with real winter can't be beat.

Thanks, Mid

I could use them.

Just turned on tree #3....and I fixed that video, sorry about that.

Merry Christmas Eve!

Preparation of Algore's meals

consumes more energy and produces more pollution than a city of 10,000.

Source of this fact is my own imagination.

Source of Algore's global warming theory - his own imagination.

Now we're even.

I'll bet a dollar to a doughnut that Dr Platt has electric lights and air conditioning in his home. Why don't these left-wing extremists do their part and use candles and open their windows for air?

How about reining in Rudolph?

Who knows how much carbon he's emitting, year after year after year ...

So then that means if just

So then that means if just ONE eco-moron actually doesn't put up lights, he'll be saving the planet for all of us, right? If the number of people that put up lights is constant from year to year, then one person not putting up lights for a year is emitting less carbon for the world on a whole, and thus is saving the planet from a Gorey ending.

The Rocky Mountain Collegian: Illustrating Idiocy

They will probably go after

They will probably go after wrapping paper and ribbon next, if they haven't already.

I'd really like to knock

I'd really like to knock the lights outta these Green Shirt freaks.

I'm sorry, is that uncharitable of me at Christmastide?

If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same...
Yours is the earth and all that's in it...

No, it's not uncharitable

No, it's not uncharitable of you.  It's what I would call "the gift that keeps on giving"!

Oh wow, really they cause

Oh wow, really they cause global warming. Sounds like I should go to the Home Depot and just make a run on Christmas lights like never before, in the way how gun sales went up with Obama--the only industry that doesn't seem to be hard hit by this election. :P

I think we should all buy more Christmas lights, it's too dang cold as it is right now. :)

Liberal myth 257,189...

Liberal myth 257,189...

Incandescent bulbs are inefficient.

Fact: They can be inefficient in when comparing power in to light out.  But where does that excess power go? HEAT!  So anytime of the year you may be heating your home, an incandescent bulb is 100% efficient!  For every BTU of heat they output, is a BTU of heat your furnace does not have to provide. :-)

Related facts: LED's are not going to be replacing conventional lighting anytime soon.  They are great where compactness is a must, like a flashlight (I have several small flashlights that are amazingly bright and run for several hours at full brightness).  However, they have a long way to go to beat the efficiency of fluorescent and particularly low pressure sodium bulbs.  Even today's latest Cree XR-E BIN's are only half to one quarter as efficient as the marketing material states when driven to acceptable output levels (150+ lumens) and in colors that are pleasing indoors (warm white).

CFL's contain mercury, are slow to warm up, are even slower to warm up when they are cold, performance and lifespan can be greatly affected by switching on and off, hard to dim, and are offer only slightly more efficiency; somewhere between a halogen incandescent and a full size fluorescent.

Another "greenwash"

Years ago, when an Xmas light burned out, you'd just screw in another.  Today's "green" LED strings require the whole string to be replaced each time a light or two dies.  I bought 10 sets (because I really like the bright colors) but within two years all died and had to be returned.  The replacement sets died within two seasons as well.  That's way more garbage in a few years than in a lifetime of using incandescent bulbs ... but apparently that's just a-okay with the eco-religious.

To me it's just another example of greenwashing while ignoring blatant consumerism.  I really wish they'd require the makers to provide screw-in LED bulbs that work with the OLD strings.

I'm happy to do my part to

I'm happy to do my part to increase global warming, what with temps in the 20s and one of the coldest years on record, if it weren't for global warming, we'd be in another ice age.

 Energy spent on media

Energy spent on media print and air time to liberal morons wastes far more than any Christmas lighting.

Just think...

If we didn't have all the hot air coming out of the blowhard liberals' mouths, we would definitely be in a deep freeze right now.

Sorry, General

Guess I wasn't reading your first message correctly.  Missed the smiley.  Well, you know us old folks don't see too well sometimes.

All forgiven??

Because solar power is free!

It requires ZERO energy to produce those solar panels!

Do you want to run your lights during the day when there is solar power or at night? You need rechargeable batteries for that.

It requires ZERO energy to produce a rechargeable battery! And they last forever! No need to replace them once a year or so and throw away the old ones in that landfill you also hate.

Get a pass if you are a lib

I am pretty sure if a Republican Prez was traveling to and from Hawaii for his vacations the media wouldnt stop talking about the carbon footprint.  As it is no one writes anything about Pelosi flying from SF to DC and back every week or so.  Agenda carrying hypocrites ready to pounce on any example of a conservative that isnt saving the planet while they 'light 'em up'.

I cannot wait to see how his global warming initiatives only apply to those not in office as a liberal. Just like sexual harrasment, pay for pardon, and a slew of other examples... hypocrites.
