Media Find ACORN’s Crack-Cocaine-for-Votes Scheme HILARIOUS!

Shortly before Election Day 2006, the Wall Street Journal reported that the far-left-leaning activist group ACORN gave crack cocaine to one of its Ohio workers in 2004 "in exchange for fraudulent registrations that included underage voters, dead voters and pillars of the community named Mary Poppins, Dick Tracy and Jive Turkey."

Years later, when a conservative analyst mentioned it on television, H-I-L-A-R-I-T-Y ensued in the liberal media echo chamber at the conservative's expense.

The butt of the jokes this time was my colleague and NewsBusters contributor Matthew Vadum who during his appearance on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" last Thursday had the audacity to say (video available here):

Community organizers use crack cocaine in exchange for votes.

Vadum, whose day job is as a senior editor at Capital Research Center, proved these allegations here.

Sadly, the truth never interferes with liberals defending liberals whilst they bash conservatives. First up was Jessica Coen of New York magazine who chortled, "what sort of person would actually spit out this sort of nonsense?"

Next, Elizabeth Benjamin of the New York Daily News simply accepted ACORN's denial of drugs-for-votes without further inquiry.

Ken Silverstein of Harper's Magazine mocked Vadum's extensively annotated 10,000-plus word profile of ACORN by calling it an "opus" inside scare quotes. Silverstein tipped his hand on his political views in another piece at Harper's in which he wrote about the "ongoing character assassination of Barack Obama."

The Huffington Post also joined in the laugh riot. Plus, as a special added bonus, there were at least two mocking posts at far-left gossip board Daily Kos (Oct. 31, Nov. 1).

But why does the mainstream media find the ACORN crack allegations so sidesplittingly funny when they spent so much time and energy in 2004 reporting them?

As Vadum wrote, a LexisNexis search of the keywords "cocaine voter acorn" for the year 2004 generated eighteen hits. As such, Vadum didn't make up the allegations; he just reported them.

Perhaps it has something to do with liberals' sanctimonious attitude toward militant left-wing community organizers.

Remember that Joe Klein of Time freaked out after Sarah Palin and Rudy Giuliani mocked community organizing at the GOP convention? Klein was outraged that they dared criticize these noble activists who work "to end poverty and promote social justice."

In the end, the joke's on them as an ACORN worker got arrested in Cincinnati last Wednesday for prostitution and possession of a crack pipe.

I imagine I'll get laughed at by liberal media members just for bringing it up.
