Palin an Icon?
November 3, 2008 - 11:36 ET by chelseabitesI'm amazed by the incredible amount of public interest in Sarah Palin. Good or bad, she's become somewhat of a pop icon. People are dressing like her to be and/or mock her all at the same time.
For instance, I found this video on dressing like Palin:

November 2, 2008 - 08:31 ET by PeskyDaneMy guess is that Lorne Michaels pulled Fey aside and made sure she dialed down the viciousness. The only moment that could be considered a real cheap shot was when she fingered her lapel - but even that was fair game.

I have to admit it...SNL was pretty funny!
November 2, 2008 - 01:34 ET by PrairieSkyAnd, amazingly well behaved toward McCain. The "QVC" skit with the blank commemorative plates was hysterical! I loved the fact that they took a shot at Obama for not taking McCain up on his offer of the 10 townhall meetings.
On the down side, SNL is, still, making Sarah seem like a bit of a twit, but overall, I thought it was okay.

November 2, 2008 - 16:04 ET by BlondeShilling that "fine gold" while wearing her diamond USMC/NAVY pin, and as usual dressed to the nines in her gorgeous clothing.
Cindy reminded me of Brigitte Jones' mum in the movie....oohing and ahhing over the brilliante diamonte (fake crap) with that hack beau of hers wearing the orange make-up.
The rest of that skit was spot-on, and Tina Fey toned it down perfectly. Almost as good as Al Gore and the "Luock-buooox", my all time SNL fave.....well, STRATEGERY!
In his own words (19 seconds): This man is qualified to be VP?
Olbermann?
November 2, 2008 - 01:39 ET by HillbillyKingDid SNL do the deranged Uberdouche skit?
If so, can someone post a link.

November 2, 2008 - 01:53 ET by MikeknaJI thought the cold open was hilarious. I'm going to order some McCain Fine Gold, and some of those McCain Pork Knives myself.
The View sketch is pretty lame - satire is funny when it has a foot in reality, but this is all Elisabeth jokes that are just ridiculous.
Can't wait to see the Olbermann sketch.

November 2, 2008 - 02:45 ET by RESTLESS 1I'm glad you posted this. I saw the skit, and McCain did a good job of laughing at himself some, but in the end, I saw it as a waste of his time. He wasn't going to be able to present his ideas, and he wasn't going to change any minds with this apperance.
I got a chuckle out of the "double maverick" and the "sad grandpa" bits, but he didn't break through. I would have preferred he do SNL earlier in the campign, if at all.

November 2, 2008 - 06:11 ET by Roger the ShrubberThe best SNL episode I've seen since the Will Farrell days. The McCain stuff was good, the View skit sucked, but the Olbermann skit was great (as was Affleck), and the Giraffe! song rocked!
One of the Best
November 2, 2008 - 07:05 ET by NoMoreClintonsWhat a fabulous skit! I laughed so hard tears were rolling down. Great writing, and it shows just how human Mac is. And for all her liberal leanings, Tina Fey was great. Sarah is the best thing that ever happened to her.
SNL IS WHAT THE DR. ORDERED !!!!
November 2, 2008 - 07:16 ET by MrShyThe skits were great, yes!
I also disagree with some here who are saying, too little too late. I think just the opposite. The people we're trying to sway at this point are, of course, the moderates and undecideds who are swayable (word?) right up to Nov 4th, and to see McCain in this comfortable setting, and with a good share of the jokes pointed at Obama, I think can only help to warm people to McCain.
As we all know, in the debates and on the stump he's often so fired up, and on the news every night when clips of him are played next to clips of Mr. Smoothy Ears, he just comes off not very likable.
I think this leaves a way-better taste in people's mouths come Tuesday, and that can add up to a lot of extra votes.

Did ya'll notice the positive crowd reaction,...
November 2, 2008 - 07:11 ET by on-the-rocksin the opening skits for both the "Sarah Palin" episode and last nights episode? And I agree that Ben Affleck did a decent job of being a good sport.
Chevy Chase threw a hissy fit about the Palin episode, he probably soiled himself last night. Who ever thought that Chevy Chase would become a grumpy old man? I guess that is what liberalism will do to you.
Last night I watched until "The View" skit. At that point, the pace began to grind and I decided that washing a few dishes (and doing some other chores) was more entertaining.

November 2, 2008 - 13:14 ET by soulpileThat reminds me:
Why are most comedians liberal? Because they're all jokes.
It's sad that comedians who used to be entertaining, like Chevy, now spend their time whining about politics and getting grumpy. Maybe it's due to lack of work.
Palling around with SNL.
November 2, 2008 - 07:35 ET by garyganuI thought that the skits were funny, but I am uneasy about presidential candidates being obliged to appear on a an entertainment show, particularly one that embraces today's popular culture.
Often the music, the skits and the political positions that actors have taken on SNL is completely contrary to the fundamental principles that made America the freest, wealthiest and most powerful nation that the world has ever seen.
SNL, the mainstream media, the arts and many educators are constantly attacking the very institutions that keeps us strong, free and wealthy. Examples are how they relentlessly attack our military, police, a common culture, a common language, our borders, the intact family, Christianity, etc.
McCain has no business "palling around" with these type of folks.

You have some good points
November 2, 2008 - 08:54 ET by JerryYou have some good points GG, but how else is McCain going to reach those people? They watch SNL and Jon Stewart, not political debates. The way I see it, it can only help, by destroying some of the stereotypes implanted in these peoples minds by the MSM and the liberal indoctrination educational system.
When asked if he went to war with Iraq to derail the impeachment vote: “I don’t think any serious person would believe that any President would do such a thing." - President Clinton (Dec 1998).
Jerry - EXACTLY !!!!
November 2, 2008 - 09:10 ET by MrShyYou said it better than I did, above (or, um, below?? :p)
It really does NOT hurt at all, and can only help with those who are on the fence and getting their perceptions of him intraveneously injected by the daily and repetitive barrages in the news and entertainment industries.
AND, by one of their own, SNL, who actually presents McCain -- along with, lately, stinging jokes that poke at Dems/libs and Keith O (what's gotten into them lately? maybe a memo went out to NBC to now reverse the tank for McCain, so they can push their real darling, Shrillary, in '12... ???) -- in a softer light, and shows him to be not just funny, but a bit of a natural in front of the camera. He gains a few points back from Mr. Hollywood Obama in that area.

November 2, 2008 - 11:02 ET by JerryMrShy, you know what they say.... Great Minds Think A-RIGHT.
The more chances that McCain/Palin have to present themselves in an unfiltered, unedited format, the better. You are spot on in how they both shine in these formats, totally contradicting the image cultivated by the MSM.

The opening skit was great.
November 2, 2008 - 07:56 ET by BlazerThe opening skit was great. I loved "McCain Finegold" and the empty plates comemerating the townhall debates. But I'll have to say, the skewering of Olbermann was awesome, I was in stitches the whole way through. Keith cannot be a happy camper today.

I think he was using some of the personality he has been hiding during the campaign.
I also think Obama made a big mistake in backing out on his appearance earlier.

November 2, 2008 - 09:54 ET by JayTeeBHO drops a few million, but Sarah and McCain do it for free, and make people stay up late.
Sarah didn't have a McCain stand in when she was on SNL, but McCain got her (sort of) in a Dual Appearance....
QUESTION . . . . .
WHY was NOT Biden standing by BHO, on BHO's INFOMERCIAL ? Maybe Obama needed a Stand in also ?
