Limbaugh: NYT is the PR Department for Obama and Democrat Party

Rush Limbaugh on Friday called the New York Times "the public relations department for the Barack Obama campaign and the Democrat Party."

Speaking by phone with the folks on "Fox & Friends," the conservative radio talk show host depicted the media's coverage of Obama during this presidential campaign as "the most irresponsible journalistic exhibition I have seen in my life."

Limbaugh also claimed these same biased news outlets do polls today exclusively "to shape opinion, not reflect it."

What follows is a partial, rough transcript of this discussion (video embedded right):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

STEVE DOOCY, CO-HOST: Let's ask Rush Limbaugh. He's joining us live from somewhere out there somewhere in TV land. Good morning, El Rushbo.

RUSH LIMBAUGH: Somewhere out there in TV land indeed down there in the sunny climes of south Florida, you guys. Great to be with you on "Fox & Friends."

BRIAN KILMEADE, CO-HOST: Congratulations on the 20 years. Rush, a lot of people are saying the distance that Senator McCain is from Senator Obama is the same thing Al Gore was from Governor Bush at the time. Do you see a lot of similarities there?

LIMBAUGH: I heard you talking about the polls just a minute ago with Chris Wallace. You know me. I have a more cynical view of people than what I call the drive-by media. The drive-by media do these polls and for the longest time whether it is a presidential opinion poll or a poll of the American people on anything, we all know these polls are used to shape opinion, not reflect it, but now we're getting to the point where in all these pollsters have their credibility to be concerned about and they want to be right at the end of the day, and I think that's why with a couple of exceptions you're seeing a lot of polls tighten now, because the race is tight. It's not over. Nationally, of course, is one thing. You do have these battleground states to be concerned about. It's not looking bad for McCain out there. I don't think this is anywhere near over. There is an onslaught in the media to make it seem like this has been long ago over. I think the purpose of that is to suppress and depress Republicans and their vote turnout.

GRETCHEN CARLSON, CO-HOST: So you talk about shaping voters' minds and that's something we were discussing earlier, what the polls actually do, because who wants to go out and vote for a loser, right?

LIMBAUGH: Precisely. It's -- the media coverage of Obama in this campaign, this is the most irresponsible journalistic exhibition I have seen in my life. I'm 57 years old. They've always been liberal and they've always been biased but I have never seen them in the tank like this, and I think the purpose of that, they're doing two things. They know there is a new media out there and there is a competition with the new media and they are trying to show themselves they can still move public opinion. They're trying to show themselves they can get the country they want. Now they're not even hiding the bias. They're profoundly in the tank, and the purpose is, I think, to really depress people into thinking this is over, that McCain has no prayer.

DOOCY: When you talk about shaping opinion, historically, newspapers do it on the opinion page where they say we're behind this guy. Well, today in the pages of the New York Times, the old Gray Lady, she is endorsing Barack Obama, the same day a poll comes out from the Times where they have got Barack Obama up by 13 points. We have talked to pollsters who say you can effectively drive a poll toward the answer you want, the result you want, You think the New York Times is doing something like that here?

LIMBAUGH: Two things about the Times. I think it's classic that yesterday Standard & Poor's officially proclaimed the New York Times as junk on the day they endorsed the Messiah, the lord Barack Obama the most merciful. Number two, why is the New York Times junk? Why is their advertising revenue down? Why iare their pages down, why is their circulation down? It's because they're no longer the New York Times. They are the public relations department for the Barack Obama campaign and the Democrat Party.

We couldn't have said it any better, Rush.

when is SOMEONE IN THE ALT

when is SOMEONE IN THE ALT MEDIA going to start HAMMERING EVERY DAY about the MONEY SPENT BY THE MSM TO PROMOTE THE DNC?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

ARE THESE NOT CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Government is the "greedy capitalism" of marxists

Megadittos!

MRC should compile the stats (since no one else is) and present them to the campaign finance regulators.

Add to that...

An Oprah endorsement is worth millions.  A minute on her show is worth millions.

The View gives Obama positive advertising every day.

What's a rap song worth in dollars?

These aren't editorialists, they are entertainers providing free advertising.

Government is the "greedy capitalism" of marxists

It's Dead

As Sean Hannity has said," Journalism in the mainstream media is officially dead ".

Cut the Cable

Send a message to Big Media. After the election, unsubcribe to cable TV. Use your TV to play games on or watch DVD's or put one in a closet with a portable radio, flashlites, etc, to use in case of national emergencies.

Good bye to TV. Use the internet and radio for news and entertainment.

Red Jeep:

Where does the Internet get its news?  So many of the sites - including NB - depend on the MSM to generate the news.  NB doesn't have reporters out there covering the news. They are dependent upon the actual sources for recycling fodder.

Radio isn't Big Media?  It's getting bigger every day with increased consolidation.

Who makes all those DVD's you plan on watching?

Answers

Mr. Wilson, you asked:

Where does the Internet get its news? The Internet gets the news from a combination of sources like the AP, TV, national and local, newspapers, on line newspapers, and first hand reporting/ research.

Radio isn't Big Media? Yes, actually many radio shows have more listeners than TV shows have viewers. For the most part the successful radio talk shows are conservative because liberal talk radio can’t attract mush of an audience, thus the Democrats call for a return to the Fairness Doctrine.

Who makes all those DVD's you plan on watching? Lots of sources. Most of the last 50 years of TV is on DVD and at least 60 years of movies.

My point was to send a message to most of the Big TV Media or MSM by the cancelling of the cable TV. A significant drop in TV cable subscriptions, even as little as 5 to 10% will definitely get the point across that the public is not happy, and dropping cable subcriptions would make this point better and more effectively than writing advertisers, individual stations etc.

Dano:

What would Sheer Insannity know about it?  He's a robot talking head, regurgitating RNC talking points, until it suits his agenda to claim to be a journalist - and then he'll go out and campaign for one candidate.  He's blurred the lines so much himself - and then claims journalism is dead?  He helped kill it.And what ever happened to all those Freedom Concerts?  I can't seem to locate any mention of them on his website?  Or on the website of Ollie North's Freedom Foundation? [Did you ever read their lavish and expensive "Annual Report" that has no financial data of any kind in it?]   Did the lack of money actually going to a scholarship fund that doesn't distribute all that much money to begin with (compared to the money spent on consultants, fundraising and lavish annual dinners) have anything to do with that?

And have you ever reviewed the finances of Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson's BOND?  Or the JC & Frankie Watts Foundation?

When has Sean claimed to be a journalist?

Even if he has, he is more up front about his biases that the MSM is about their biases.

Hate Monger

Well, It looks like we all have one of 'dem 'der hate mongers in our midst.

Something else in what Rush said, Noel...

There was something else in what Rush said, Noel... (and of course, the NY Times observations are right on); McCain is playing the wrong tune - to the wrong people. The RNC is pushing a string with non-stop parsing of whose tax proposals is better for him or her. Even the Ayers issue is too late in the campaign (unfortunately).

There's this big "Obama's big 3 lies on taxes" going around. What a waste of time. Attacking Bush?? Rush was suggesting that McCain had simply put himself on the same side as Obama in the non-stop Bush bashing. McCain should be running against Obama and against the Democrats:

Obama's 3 big lies are:

1. He lied to Joe the Plumber - said that working class received no tax breaks under Bush. There's a whole list of tax breaks they got.

2. Obama lied to the seniors in Florida, and I'd assume elsewhere, on the SS issue.

3. Obama lied to the voters- McCain is not proposing to slash $882 billion from Medicare.

Now, certainly there's a long list of other lies from Obama/Biden to add to the list, as well.

One of the biggest ones, is this constant drum beat of (put on your best sniveling voice here). "When Bill Clinton left, Bush inherited a strong growing economy and $5 Trillion in surpluses, and in two years, he destroyed the economy and blew the surpluses."

That is a bunch of bull. McCain needs to stand up and begin every speech with, "have you heard this revision of history that the D's and the media is trying to pull over the heads of honest working Americans?"

Just about every economic indicator, long before the Nov. 2000 elections, had long reversed course and were steeply heading the other way. The market had long ago crashed. The silly projected surpluses were based on the dot.com bubble economy continuing to grow at the rate it had bubbled. It was simply a fairy tale. Once the bubble popped - the surpluses were history.

Additionally, Rush is correct; McCain should go head-on after the Democrats and Obama on the HUD - Fannie/Freddie - and blocking Bush and R's on reform.

These issues - if played loudly enough - for one week will rock the undecided - they will never vote for Obama. (;~> Gary

Ole BlunderRush

knows as much about journalism as Col. Sanders knew about vegans...

Care to elaborate Franklin???

Are you defending "journalism" as a profession???

I would LOVE to hear this??

Are you a hit and run hack troll...just like those hit and run hack journalists??

I'll be here waiting...

Speaking of Vegans...there was a scientific study that stated that vegitarians lose BRAIN mass due to lack of protein!!! Are you a vegan??

Somebody help me with the link to the study!! I'll try to find it soon.

Ster.

frank

can't wait to hear the defense of journalism story. Also Colonel Sanders knew all about vegans - all his chickens were vegans.

What's there to know?

This aint rocket science.  Most journalists are hopelessly liberal and it shows in their allegedly impartial work.  You don't need a Phd to figure that one out.

Well, then

that puts him on a level playing field with the New York Times and their ilk.

Comment

This is going to get me some flak, but I feel like I have to point out...

Simply quoting Rush Limbaugh saying the media is biased is not evidence of media bias.

Retort

This is going to get me some flak, but I feel like I have to point out...

Simply stating the obvious at a message board is a waste of everyone's time.

Fair Enough

Fair enough.

So its obvious

that it's obvious?

I must admit some envy

I must admit some envy here. I mean, I wish I could get paid what Rush does for telling us WHAT WE ALREADY KNOW!!! :>)

"This liberal would be all about socialize -- uh, uh, would be about basically taking over and the government running all of your companies."-Maxine Waters 2008

As always, Rush is right!

As always, Rush is right!  How to win a presidential election if you are a minority:

Be a Democrat, be either an extreme leftist liberal male or female, must be a graduate of an elite university preferably somewhere in the northeast, must have knowledge of recycled liberal, big government spending, leftist talking points.  Endear self with the leftist media, i.e, CNN, WaPo, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, NBC, PBS, LAT, SFChron., Time, Newsweek ", must know every leftist news anchors, pundits and reporters by their first names, be "smooth and eloquent and articulate (their words)", must have minions of uneducated supporters who are too ignorant to understand current, social, foreign and national issues..." The New York Times will take it from there and will carry said candidate to victory...

the Marketing Department

"Rush Limbaugh on Friday called the New York Times 'the public relations department for the Barack Obama campaign and the Democrat Party.'"

Maybe this is a quibble; but I consider New York Times, and the rest of the MSM, the Marketing Department for the Barack Obama campaign and the Democrat Party."
