UPDATE at end of post: the can has already been opened!
Without question, ABC's Jake Tapper is one of the few members of the mainstream media who's actually willing to publish less than favorable reports about Barack Obama.
In a "Political Punch" blog posting Saturday about new revelations involving indicted fundraiser Tony Rezko, Tapper deliciously summed up a Washington Post piece as claiming that "Sen. John McCain's campaign...is about to open up a can of whoop-ass on Obama with a focus on his personal associations."
I kid you not (emphasis added, photo courtesy ABC):
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the FBI is looking into whether or not former Obama pal Tony Rezko -- convicted in June of attempted extortion, mail and wire fraud, and aiding and abetting bribery -- paid for all or part of $90,000 worth work on the Northwest Side Chicago home of Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
Rezko apparently liked helping out his politician pals on their real estate transactions. As you may recall, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and Rezko's wife, Rita, bought adjacent properties in a controversial and complicated series of real estate transactions, one of which Obama later called "boneheaded" because it might cause people to think he'd been done a favor in exchange for something untoward, which he denies is the case. Rezko at the time was under federal investigation. [...]
There's also a curious story bubbling out there about a former Obama poker buddy, Will County Executive Larry Walsh, and questions leveled by a political opponent about Walsh's connections to a county contractor. [...]
Meaning you should expect to hear much more about these Obama associates -- some questions fair, others not; many associates legitimately slimy, others mere road kill on this political Autobahn -- in this last full month of the campaign.
To wit: the Washington Post reports that Sen. John McCain's campaign -- convinced that the maverick thing alone isn't working -- is about to open up a can of whoop-ass on Obama with a focus on his personal associations.
"We're going to get a little tougher," a senior Republican operative tells the Post. "We've got to question this guy's associations. Very soon. There's no question that we have to change the subject here."
I imagine I speak for millions of right-thinking Americans when I say, "You can do it!"
*****Update: The can has already been opened. As reported moments ago by CNN.com:
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on Saturday slammed Sen. Barack Obama's political relationship with a former anti-war radical, accusing him of associating "with terrorists who targeted their own country."
Palin's attack delivered on the McCain campaign's announcement that it would step up attacks on the Democratic presidential candidate with just a month left before the November general election.
"We see America as the greatest force for good in this world," Palin said at a fund-raising event in Colorado, adding, "Our opponent though, is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country."
Palin made similar comments later at a rally in Carson, California.
Obama's Chicago, Illinois, home is in the same neighborhood as Bill Ayers, a founder of the radical Weather Underground, which was involved in several bombings in the early 1970s, including the Pentagon and the Capitol, and the two have met several times since Obama's 1995 campaign for a state Senate seat.

McCain's Duty
October 4, 2008 - 18:31 ET by allanfJohn McCain has a duty, and affirmative obligation to expose a man who (a) doesn't salute the flag during the national anthem (b) whose first instinct is not to wear a flag lapel pin and (c) distorts his relationships with terrorists and America bashers.
John McCain can only do this in a debate. His message will not get out otherwise. Expect the CBS, ABC, NBC and CNN to be ready with big-time damage control for Obama if McCain plays hardball on Tuesday.
Like Reagan, he needs to go ABOVE the heads of media
October 4, 2008 - 21:21 ET by Scout FinchAnd speak directly to the American people. The debate would be a perfect platform from which to ask Obama about his "leeetle friends" in the terrorist business. He also needs to ask Obama to explain some of the straight lines that connect him directly to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
The media would lose their minds!
That is exactly it.

October 5, 2008 - 08:53 ET by Seabeach4348Well, McCain had better start exposing Obummer for the fraud and the snake that he is.
He had better do it in the next two debates because if he doesn't I have a bad feeling that it could be lost. And, no, I don't believe what the polls say, but McCain could lose if he doesn't go after his slime-ball opponent the way he should be.
Those who think that McCain was aggressive or "antagonistic" (as was the opinion of one empty-headed person in the audience after the debate...) be damned. He needs to do this or we may wake up on wednesday morning Nov 5th to president-elect Obummer!
If they can tag Bush onto McCain
October 4, 2008 - 18:16 ET by KC Mulville... why can't we tag Ayers, Rezko, Rev. Wright, etc., onto Obama? McCain should start calling it the Rezko-Obama campaign.
When the media labels that "guilt by association," make them explain why McCain should be held guilty of associating with an elected president, but Obama is clean of associating with convicted felons, terrorists, and radicals.
Is that unfair? Probably. But the point is that it's no more unfair than what they're doing to McCain. Especially when they argue that McCain gets the blame for the economic debacle because he associated with Bush, when the Democrats are equally to blame, if not much more to blame, for that same debalce.

October 4, 2008 - 22:59 ET by Tom1969caActually, no. If it had been done months ago the electorate would've put it on the back burner and forgotten it by now (i.e., Rev. Wright). By doing it now, it becomes McCain's October Surprise - he can force Obama to spend the last four weeks spinning and defending rather than campaigning.

October 6, 2008 - 12:00 ET by play21cwThank you Tom. I've been trying to tell people that this IS the October surprise, McCain will recapture air time and publicity, and also come out with the hard truths about Obama and his M.O. for the run for office. I believe this is going to have a two pronged effect, it will first force the MSM to really look into it, they will but try and dismiss it. Second, it will cause alot of undecided/uninformed voters to do their own searching, they will then find the truth and realize they've been lied to.
I think this may work, but it will be a wait and see game. I think the timing for this is just right, it will be the last thing voters remember before they enter the voting booth.

Because the media has to carry the accusations, and maybe even look into them if anything is going to be made known outside of a couple of blogs, and they won't do that.
They just stick their fingers and their ears and sing La la la la la...
Just like they're not interested in looking too deeply into the Fannie/Freddie mess, because it has Democrat fingerprints all over it. Sure we can talk about it here, but unless it's on the 6 o'clock news, most folks aren't going to hear about it.

I think Team McCain always 'got it'. There's a time for everything. Do this too early, and it loses it's luster well before Nov. 4th. This campaign seemed to do it's best when Sarah was bashing Obama. There's a lot of ammo against Nobama, they can easily spend a month talking about character flaws and shady political associations. If he can't bring himself to say that then he needs to point out how Obama would make Government the last word on how and where we live, where we work, what we make, and what we will be allowed to take home in our wallets.
He needs to point out that the dictatorship will be complete if he is elected President.
He needs to point to all the dangers. And he needs to explain how Obama will misuse our Military.
McCain has to hit Obama durning the last two debates infront of the entire tv audiance.

October 4, 2008 - 17:57 ET by winston smithI'm beginning to believe that even if they found out Obama was a convicted child molester the media would ignore it. There's a defiant solidarity in the establishment media to reject and ignore all Obama negativity, lies, scandals and gaffes - no matter how often, nor how blatant. Their thinking is -- hey, Bush stole '00 and '04 so it's high time we steal one for the 'good guys'. They will proudly receive the baton from Rather/Mapes. Obama supports increased government power, higher taxes, more spending, and delivery table kills, for this they will let him slide right into the White House -- if they can help it.

The problem Judith is
October 6, 2008 - 09:01 ET by dscottThe problem Judith is McCain doesn't listen unless he realizes at the 11th hour the people are not accepting his compromising with Dems approach. We saw this with the illegal immigration issue, when he said AFTER the switchboards were flooded with calls, he got it, secure the border first! We saw this again prior to his pick of Palin as VP when he realized he couldn't win without the conservative base. Only after he picked Palin was the base energized. We saw his weak approach on the economy in the first debate, we saw this by his voting for a porked up bail out package that doesn't address the real issues of the economy. His people even hamstrung Palin in the VP debate about the economy, the best she was allowed to say was to blame the greed of Wall Street instead of pointing to Obama's order taking in 2005 voting what the Democrat Party told him to vote in blocking reforms of Fannie Mae. You know why he hamstrung her? Because he WANTS to compromise with the Dems, his entire career is based on compromise thus he does not want to OFFEND Dem leaders. He calls it bipartisanship, I call it selling out.
The problem with McCain is he DOESN'T listen, he DOESN'T take criticism, he DOESN'T take ideas, suggestions or support from the conservative base UNLESS he sees his compromising ISN'T working. We are the LAST people from whom he takes advice, not the first. At some point McCain is going to realize again that if he is going to win this election he has to embrace the conservative base and that means SCREW bipartisanship and attack the Democrat Party because doing so IS attacking Obama, the empty suit.

Now folks you can say McCain has opened the can of whoop-ass
Our current economic crisis is a good case in point. What was his actual record in the years before the great economic crisis of our lifetimes?
This crisis started in our housing market in the form of subprime loans that were pushed on people who could not afford them. Bad mortgages were being backed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and it was only a matter of time before a contagion of unsustainable debt began to spread. This corruption was encouraged by Democrats in Congress, and abetted by Senator Obama.
Senator Obama has accused me of opposing regulation to avert this crisis. I guess he believes if a lie is big enough and repeated often enough it will be believed. But the truth is I was the one who called at the time for tighter restrictions on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that could have helped prevent this crisis from happening in the first place.
Senator Obama was silent on the regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and his Democratic allies in Congress opposed every effort to rein them in. As recently as September of last year he said that subprime loans had been, quote, “a good idea.” Well, Senator Obama, that “good idea” has now plunged this country into the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.
To hear him talk now, you’d think he’d always opposed the dangerous practices at these institutions. But there is absolutely nothing in his record to suggest he did. He was surely familiar with the people who were creating this problem. The executives of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have advised him, and he has taken their money for his campaign. He has received more money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac than any other senator in history, with the exception of the chairman of the committee overseeing them.
Did he ever talk to the executives at Fannie and Freddie about these reckless loans? Did he ever discuss with them the stronger oversight I proposed? If Senator Obama is such a champion of financial regulation, why didn’t he support these regulations that could have prevented this crisis in the first place? He won’t tell you, but you deserve an answer.
Now that is straight talk and truth telling like we Conservatives want to hear it!!!!
Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, starving the poor one gallon of ethanol at a time. Fill your tank with E85 and cull a village.
Let is not wait for the whoop ass but start now
October 4, 2008 - 18:08 ET by Lame CherryLet us not wait for McCain whoop ass, but let us assist as I have begged all to help Sarah Palin out.
I note below in a blog entry how PJ Gladnick of Newsbusters broke the fact that Obama says he was a Kenyan, meaning he had 2 citizenships which disqualifies him for the presidency.
Let us not wait, but each of us in our states contact our Attorney Generals and Sec. of State alerting to them what Obama said by sharing Mr. Gladnick's article and get Obama removed from the ballot.
This includes the lurking left on here as you do not want this going to impeachment in 2009 as it will ruin your little communist enclave for a generation to only Republican rule.
I don't want Republicans ruling without challenge because they mess things up bad enough sitting on their butts in betraying the right. This nation needs Democrats to poke it along too.
http://lamecherry.bl...
We have reached the point in the 2008 political race of vote suppression by the liberals.
The
pulled this same thing on Bush 41 in December of 1991 in Dan Rather
being his comowhorish self in running bad economic stories for a month
and rigging a poll which showed that 41's numbers had tanked.
The
same process has just occurred against John McCain. After nominating
Gov. Palin, he rose 10% in real voters in the polls. His then patrician
"Republican" handlers made certain that Gov. Palin was set up in gotcha
interviews as those vultures like Peggy Noonan, David Broder of the New
York Times all played political rape with the liberals not pretending
to be Conservatives making a 7 figure living like Bill O'Reilly off of
"herding the right", all so Rupert Murdoch, the Patrician Republicans
and the George Soros flunkies could have Barack Obama as Marxist
president.
There is something vastly wrong in this American land
where the three people America who are only accomplishing anything for
the Conservative right in bravery are a little gal named Sarah Palin
from Alaska, a gay guy from Minnesota "taking it to the streets"
following Obama around with a blow horn doing local interviews exposing
Obama's drug and bisexuals lies and Phil Berg a Hillary Clinton
supporter filing papers demanding a real birth certificate from Barack
Obama.
Relying on a woman, relying on a gay guy and relying on a Clinton supporter? That is what the right has become?
Perhaps
the right is too trusting in being conned by Bill O'Reilly and Rupert
Murdoch. After all, we were conned by Newt Gingrich and the GOP twice
in the Congress in destroying our just cause.
Perhaps the right is
just too lazy in figuring another Reagan will come along or that Rush
Limbaugh will do the work, but then Rush seems like Hannity and
Ingraham to be not quite telling one person the criminal Obama is as
the facts are indeed out there.
I have a friend who is
grandmotherly age who is like many people working themselves into a
Spiritual sickness trying to get the Truth out about Barack Obama and
are literally suffering from an Obama flu in getting sick as there is
only so much association a moral person can take with Barack Obama
before pure revulsion sets in.
My vomit point was sometime in early
September as I had written over 100 articles on Barack Obama's
bisexuality, his crimes, his pervert friends, his Marxism and his wife
not doing something for him after having a child so Obama was out
getting it from a gay male in Lawrence Sinclair. My blog has over 200
articles on Obama and I have written more than Pat Buchanan has in a
lifetime of breaking stories and I did it all in love of America.
I broke Joe Biden plagiarized his Iraq War Plan from the Washington Times correspondents.
I broke more stories than Woodward about Obama and Rush Limbaugh, Drudge and Joe Farah know of them, but pure silence.
P.
J. Gladnick of Newsbusters posted on September 29th, the blockbuster
story that Obama has admitted on is site that he was a Kenyan citizen
for 21 years. Three years he was a Kenyan citizen as a voting adult and
he never renounced that citizenship.
In cold Constitutional facts,
Gladnick has found the fact that Obama is disqualified for the United
States presidency as the Constitution does not allow anyone for
whatever reason with only the lone United States citizenship to ever be
President.
It is the final check and balance the Founders laid in
forever that Congress can not even change with a law to protect America
from someone not completely loyal to America.
Mr. Gladnick
should be applauded, but for him and anyone else waiting around for the
media right or left to feature this Constitutional fact is pure falacy.
This brings the process to the people, you know the ones in the
Constitution that says WE THE PEOPLE, and not the one which says, "We
who type and hide behind screens expecting girls, gays and Hillary
flunkies to fight our battles" to do something.
The something is
contacting your state Attorney General, Sec. of State or whoever and
bringing Mr. Obama's admission to their attention to remove him from
the ballot.
If you don't like talking to politicians, perhaps you
can talk to the media in publishing a letter or asking when they are
going to cover this story.
If you are in a state that Mr. Obama
is going to be visiting, then why not go down and join Lawrence
Sinclair as he is actually spending his disability check travelling
around to Obama events with a blow horn yelling questions at Obama and
getting on local media.
I promise Mr. Sinclair does not bite and he
is very interesting. Take your cell phone and call up the local radio
and television stations as you stand beside him and ask if he wants to
talk to them on your phone.
Hey if you feel really American, how
about getting a permit to use your own blow horn and go down with Mr.
Sinclair and you can demand Obama answer the questions on his foreign
$200 million in illegal campaign donations, his money laundering
through ACORN to steal the election, his mansion being bought with
Saddam Hussein money and how about asking the Obama crowd how their
Kenyan native and they think they are better than the United States
Constitution.
Now I know this all very interesting and scarey,
because I have been stalked, harrassed, email censored, tracked and
yelled at by Obama people.........and by Obama people, I mean people
who did not like my articles mentioning people like Dr. Twomey of ICANN
the internet gate hub for all of us and scrubbed his name from the
links in hours of my mentioning "an administater" at ICANN.
That kind of fun stuff only comes from the agencies in government with alphabet soup names in scrubbing the net in hours.
That kind of attacks doesn't seem to scare Sarah Palin a whole lot so I guess it shouldn't scare people with keyboards either.
In
balancing the scales, it took 13 years to undo the damage OJ Simpson
did to this nation to the day he was let go in the murder for Nicole
Brown and Ron Goldman.
There is a friend of Barack Obama, a
homosexual in Chicago named Donald Young, whose family is still waiting
for the Chicago PD to make an arrest for his murder. Amazingly, the FBI
knowing an intimate friend of Barack Obama has been murdered has not
been called in by David Axelrod knowing his candidate could be in
danger.
I even care enough about Barack Obama to ask the FBI
repeatedly to come investigate in Chicago the murder of one of Mr.
Obama's friends.
America is now facing an Islamocommunist coup
funded by Saddam money men, Pakistani fund raising buddies of Obama and
other sordid criminal facts that are felonies which America does not
with a coming Eurasian war, the 3rd 9 11 economic attack upon the
United States to elect Barack Obama, all of which to note will bring
about impeachment procedings on Kenyan American who will have the
entire US Marshal, Secret Service, FBI, CIA, NSA, Homeland Security,
your local police now federalized under him and the entire US armed
military doing it's duty to keep the "beloved leader" in his Oval
Office.
Lawrence Sinclair was made a political prisoner in the home
state of Joe Biden by his son Beau Biden, to which Joe Biden soon
received a Vice Presidential award. I like Joe Biden well enough, but
what happened in false grand jury indictments of an innocent America to
silence him is illegal.
Mrs. Clinton today made a supportive
statement for Gov. Sarah Palin. She was as Bill was in Africa in noting
the Constitutional problems with Barack Obama, telling her supporters
to vote for John McCain.
Newsbusters has hosts of liberals lurking
there in the media and it is time they heeded the Clinton's warnings.
Sure Bill and Hillary are leveraging for 2012 and can not bring down
Obama now, but they will bring him down if he gets elected as I broke
the story all it will require is Hillary to replace Bob Byrd in 2009 as
President Pro Tem of the Senate and blackmail Nancy Pelosi out of the
way.
That is what the Clinton's do, but they are Americans and the
American left had better figure this out what they are setting America
up for if they do not start reporting with a passion the reality that
Barack Obama is a fraud and a crook.
It is we the people and not we, three, Sarah, Lawrence and Phil, while the rest of the world sits and watches the world go by.
God bless

October 4, 2008 - 19:28 ET by jaywlI cannot believe the jerks at CNN said it, but on the other hand, their little summary at the end of the report is a perfect example of what McCain/Palin is up against. Ayers and Obama live in the same neighborhood! They have met several times in the past 13 years! Wow. Why didn't they say the two peas came from the same planet and passed through Chicago in the same century? CNN and the Obama campaign really believe the American people are stupid and not only are ignorant but prefer being so. I pray they are proved wrong.
well, it's about D@MN time!
October 4, 2008 - 19:47 ET by bktIf, in fact, McCain is ready to take off the gloves and make this a *REAL* campaign, I say HOO-RAY!
He's been too reluctant to paint this Obama maroon as exactly what he is: an ardent socialist.
Go for it!
Is he taking Rush's advice?

It's about time!!!!
October 4, 2008 - 20:02 ET by PrairieSkyI don't know who's been doing the play calling the last three weeks for Team McCain, but they've made some really bad decisions. McCain has seemed to have lost his verve and his spark, and keeping Sarah hidden away was the worst possible thing to do!
Both McCain and Sarah need to be out on the stump every day, and not always together. Gov. Palin is quite capable of campaigning on her own, and with the time as short as it is, they need to split up so they can cover more territory.
This race is going to be a fight to the finish, and McCain needs to use every weapon at his disposal, and that includes getting tough on Obama! Lord knows that there is enough ammunition out there to use against him, if McCain and Co. would just use it!! It's crunch time and the gloves have to come off.

October 4, 2008 - 21:34 ET by R D HelmNot only that, but there are so many other areas where McCain could be pounding Obama that don't invlolve his bomb-throwing buddy, and he could be doing it right now.

Instead. McCain chose to join in with the Obamanites.

I'm not sure though, who chose to join with whom. In a purely political view, I believe it may have been Obama joining McCain. Although tepidly, until he was certain of the outcome.

October 4, 2008 - 22:46 ET by usbeefIf all the McCain camp is going to do is expose Rezko, that is pathetic. Lets look at our choices:
I am sure there are many more if there are this many. There are so many communist, racist, anti-semite, anti-american, and fraudulent associations it is impossible to know or name them all. Looks like the McCain camp is behind and they better get to work.

If Fred was the candidate, he would be at least 15 points ahead of Comrade Obama by now.
Perhaps even 20.

Incompetent boobs is right
October 5, 2008 - 00:29 ET by usbeefThis campaign is absolutely pathetic. Look at all the ammunition they have to destroy comrade Obama and they have used none of it. Without the MSM Obama is a loser. He wouldn't be able to win without propaganda that runs 24/7. Your absolutely right about Fred Thompson. Fred would make an amazing president.

One addendum to #5 - Frank Marshall Davis was an admitted sexual addict, bisexual and pedophile.
The importance of this, beyond the criminality of pedophilia and the destruction of lives, is that Davis was a father-figure and mentor to the teenage Barry for a number of years.

Mcain is unpatriotic, unAmerican, unethical and has not honor
October 4, 2008 - 23:06 ET by angryafricanI don’t know if there is a line you can’t cross in American politics. But this is it. McCain is betraying his own country. I never liked his policies much. But I know that is the foundation of democracy - not agreeing. Right now I am starting to despise the man and everything he stands for. He is a greedy bastard. With no honor. No decency. He is an unAmerican unpatriotic pig. And no matter how much lipstick he wears. You can’t hide your true self for ever. We can see who he is. Unpatriotic and UnAmerican. McCain, what you said is not American. What you said is not patriotic. What you said is not in the interest of America. What you said is a lie sold to all Americans. What you said is about your own greed. What you said is fearmongering. What is said was unethical. What you said is without honor. What you said is the type of thing the enemies of this great country and real terrorists will say. http://angryafrican....
