Did you know that Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin was Christian?
Well, in case you didn't, ABC's Martin Bashir felt it was necessary to bring up this fact at the beginning of Thursday's "Nightline."
No foolin'.
After an introduction teasing the topics to be addressed in this installment, Bashir curiously began (video embedded right):
Good evening. She's been described as charismatic, she is most definitely Christian, and after less than two weeks as Sen. John McCain's running mate, she's become the focus of the presidential campaign. Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska, is already paying dividends for the Republicans. Just a month ago, an ABC News poll had Barack Obama ahead of John McCain by no less than six points. That same poll taken earlier this week showed Obama's lead has been cut to just one. So who is Sarah Palin? What does she believe? And is she qualified to step in as commander in chief? My colleague Charlie Gibson has our exclusive interview.
She is most definitely Christian.
Why do you think the producers felt this was both important and necessary to share with their viewers?

September 12, 2008 - 01:50 ET by SchnikeysArgument to motive, perhaps, appearing in this NB article?
Yes, I do agree that the liberal media frequently portray most things with hints of Christianity/conservatism in it as "fringe nut," but when I read what Bashir said..."she's most definitely Christian," it's almost as if he said it in a complimentary, non-attack fashion. At least, that's what could be taken from the words themselves.
I'd say more evidence is needed before pinning this as a liberal false portrayal.

"that was the trip of a lifetime to visit our troops in Kuwait and stop and visit our injured soldiers in Germany" - Sarah Palin
That's an easy question...
September 12, 2008 - 07:04 ET by c5thenMost of the liberals who call themselves religious are 'most definitely not'. They give lip service to their chosen hobby and go through a lot of the motions that the others of that pursuasion go through, but it doesn't impact their day to day actions or underlying beliefs.
Take Biden as an example: He calls himself a 'catholic' yet doesn't understand the church's doctrine on why abortion is immoral and a sin, shich of course is firmly based in their theology. So as a corollary, it shows that Biden does not understand his chosen religion's basic theology.
When members of the media actually meet someone who's life and actions are actually steered by their underlying religious beliefs and values, it's a rare event and very news-worthy to them.
The day that "politician" became a career choice is the day we started losing the Republic. Let's get it back! Alan Keyes '08.

Implication
September 12, 2008 - 09:15 ET by NonanonSo are they admitting that since they oppose her so vigourously, they are anti-Christian? Like that is any surprise.
Republicans don't want softball questions tossed to them in fluff interviews like the Democrats get. We want Democrats to get asked the same type of tough questions we get. I know that is a simple request and I also know the chances of that happening are nill, but the American people need that.
I really wonder what jobs the Obama supporters (Obamatrons) have. I've read their comments that show an amazing inability to compare the adoring coverage Democrats get against the vitriol that is fired against Republicans and wonder how they perform their jobs. I also wonder what damage they do to their employer or their reputation given said separation from such obvious conclusions. The damage to the country is visible to us but what goes on in places we can't see.
Doesn't this sound Christiany?
September 12, 2008 - 09:20 ET by fed upAt Saddleback Forum
WARREN: Now, you’ve made no doubts about your faith in Jesus Christ. What does that mean to you? What does it mean to you to trust in Christ? And what does that mean to you on a daily basis? What does that really look like?
OBAMA: As a starting point, it means I believe in — that Jesus Christ died for my sins, and that I am redeemed through him. That is a source of strength and sustenance on a daily basis. Yes, I know that I don’t walk alone. And I know that if I can get myself out of the way, that I can maybe carry out in some small way what he intends. And it means that those sins that I have on a fairly regular basis, hopefully will be washed away.
But what it also means, I think, is a sense of obligation to embrace not just words, but through deeds, the expectations, I think, that god has for us. And that means thinking about the least of these. It means acting — well, acting justly, and loving mercy, and walking humbly with our god. And that — I think trying to apply those lessons on a daily basis, knowing that you’re going to fall a little bit short each day, and then being able to kind of take note and saying, well, that didn’t quite work out the way I think it should have, but maybe I can get a little bit better. It gives me the confidence to try things, including things like running for president, where you’re going to screw up once in a while.
Yes, fed up, it does sound
September 12, 2008 - 12:12 ET by ForeverOnTheRightYes, fed up, it does sound like Christianity. But the question is does Obama give more than intellectual acknowledgment to what he says he believes? We can tell what a person believes in their heart buy what they do or don’t do. None of us are always consistent in what we do verses what we believe or what we say we believe, it’s a part of being human. Does Obama’s life display that he believes in his heart what the Bible teaches vs. what man says it does? I don’t think so, I am not convinced.
Another thing that one must consider when one looks at Obama to determine if he is truly a Chrsitian is WHO endorces him around the world. The list is not supportive of calling Obama a Chrsitian becuase it includes, Hamas, Iran and those of the Pagan movment. The Muslim world considers him a Muslim. Obama was raised a Muslim and even sliped and refered to "my Muslim faith". I don't think that a person who was a Christian a Jew or Budist etc. would ever make a slip like that unless they in truth where a Muslim pretending to be a person of another faith. Muslims do lie for the cause of Allah, it's not aganist the tenents of the faith.

September 12, 2008 - 10:21 ET by VinncyGABC: So Mr Obama you recently stated that you were a Muslim was that just a slip of the tongue?
Obama: Of course that was a slip of the tongue, how can you doubt me?
ABC: So what do you tell your supporters about the fact that you went to Muslim schools until you were 13 years old??
Obama: That easy, I joke a lot, I never cared about the schooling. Didn't you read my book? All I cared about was getting drunk and drugs. Look I take a Muslim name I'm joking, besides I count on all my supporters to be stupid.

3 Words the Right Will Never Say About Obama:
September 12, 2008 - 21:25 ET byObama's most definitely Christian = TRUTH
The right wants everyone to believe that Obama is a Black Liberationist Muslim. The right spearheaded by right wing propogandist pundits will never tell the truth about this. I understand Hilary did it to some extent by responding to the ? "Is Barack a Chritian?" - "As far as I know." Yea, and both sides have lied to try and win elections. 2 wrongs don't make either one OK. Lying about a candidates religion is especially despicable and unexeptable and no decent way to win an election.
Save your "But he is a Muslim." comments and such. All you'll be doing is admitting to your ignorance or dishonesty. Which you may be proud of, but it's not good.

He did not. He understood, correctly, that the law protects every baby born (even during an abortion procedure) under the laws against murder and physical harm.
I said the right wants everyone to believe that, and I've corrected that to be more accurate. Just look at the comments to my comment. Several want people to believe Obama's Christianity is Black Liberation Theology. Cool Arrow wants people to believe Obama's a Muslim. I'm sure there are some cases of exceptions but you pretty much will never hear any right winger w/ a public forum say anything that would lead people to believe Obama's not a Muslim.
