UPDATE: Link to article in question now works as of 6:45PM.
On March 6, 2007, New York Times columnist Nicholas D. Kristof published an article entitled "Obama: Man of the World."
In it, Kristof addressed Barack Obama's upbringing, including his early life in Jakarta when he "got in trouble for making faces during Koran study classes in his elementary school."
For some reason, the link to this piece doesn't work anymore.
Does the New York Times no longer want folks to read the following paragraphs (h/t Gateway Pundit via NBer mitchflorida):
"I was a little Jakarta street kid," he said in a wide-ranging interview in his office (excerpts are on my blog, www.nytimes.com/ontheground). He once got in trouble for making faces during Koran study classes in his elementary school, but a president is less likely to stereotype Muslims as fanatics -- and more likely to be aware of their nationalism -- if he once studied the Koran with them.
Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent. In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it'll give Alabama voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as "one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset."
Moreover, Mr. Obama's own grandfather in Kenya was a Muslim. Mr. Obama never met his grandfather and says he isn't sure if his grandfather's two wives were simultaneous or consecutive, or even if he was Sunni or Shiite.
Further complicating the matter is that Kristof posted a link to this piece at his "On the Ground" blog the night before it appeared in print, and solicited opinions.
That link doesn't work, either.
Even more mysterious, Obama's official campaign website still has the article available.
Makes one wonder what the Times is feeling so squeamish about.

How to change the future you delete history.
This is just what the Democrats are doing.
They erase negitive things viewed as history about Biden and "O" Dumby and insert lies about Palin.

Rewriting true history with lies.
Liberal Media again
September 9, 2008 - 09:36 ET by MaximusBraveheartWhat scoundrels! That is just a crazy level of biass. That makes Nixon look good. What the media does everyday does 1,000,000 times more damage to this country.
Maximus, Your Nixon comparison....
September 9, 2008 - 11:57 ET by ForeverOnTheRightis exactly what comes to my mind too. I do agree that the damage is 1,000,000 worse than what Nixon did. The Media has become what they have hated because they have not been careful, they have become Nixon, because they are involved in the greatest coverup in history, the scandals and truth about the democrats. (By the way, good for you for not camparing the Media to Hitler or Goreing et al. That's a tired and often inaccurate compomaprison.)

September 9, 2008 - 13:53 ET by upcountrywaterI heard Maobama say this:
On Wednesday, Obama, appearing in front of the American Israel
Public Affairs Committee,
said" Jerusalem should be Israel's undivided capital, saying,
"Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain
undivided.
I NEVER HEARD THIS: (next day)
Well, on Thursday, Palestinian leaders reacted with anger and
dismay to this statement, so Obama immediately flip-flopped on his
support for Israel's stance on Jerusalem, saying Palestinians and
Israelis had to negotiate the future of the holy city.
Two positions in two days -- this guy is very confused -- and let's be
very clear about this -- under pressure from Palestinians and
terrorists, Obama caved in on one of Israel's most fundamental issues. "

can we grasp at any more straws with obama?
September 9, 2008 - 15:54 ET by abeautifulpersonsince the article IS available for reading on the obama/biden site, its clear they are NOT trying to delete the past.
but let's look at this straw grasping. we're talking about a grandfather's religion and elementary school face-making?!
are we so desperate that we begin to judge a presidential candidate based on this kind of stuff? what is the purpose of rehashing this, other than continuing to attempt to tie obama to something he's not.
perhaps we should discuss the fact that noel wet the bed when he was 5 years old. sound ridicules? it is. does it matter? it doesn't. is it true? i dunno.
and neither does it matter that obama's grandfather was muslim or had a wife or two (let's muddy it further by not knowing for sure whether grand dad has two wives at once).
but yes, there is crap spewing from the dem side about palin. what a poor example both these parties (and SOME of their supports) present to those from the outside looking in.
this site is a full-blown contributor to the monkey poop flinging. just stop already.

I also don't care about
September 9, 2008 - 16:41 ET by mitchfloridaI also don't care about Obama's Grandfather, whom Barack never even met. But Nicholas Kristoff of The Times apparently thought it was relevent.
However, I don't appreciate Obama saying he was never a Muslim when he obviously studied the Koran when he was a child and knows the Arabic prayers by heart. He is not being candid.
abp, NewBusters is not about Barry-O as a candidate...
September 9, 2008 - 16:43 ET by R D Helm...a person, or anything else. It is only concerned about the MSM coverage of the man, and lefty politicians in general.
BTW, less-than-stellar articles about dems that actually found their way onto an MSM website have been yanked before, which is why it is so easy to believe the worst.

i can't entirely agree with you.
September 9, 2008 - 17:24 ET by abeautifulpersonmy issue is more about NB's repeating of content about his grandfather and his antics as a youth while reading the koran. this effort is not dissimilar to how cheney repeated "iraq" and "wmds" in the same talking points a few years back; long after it was proven there was no link. keep repeating it and it sticks in people's minds. especially the conservative readership on NB.
why that specific content was repeated is a subtle shadow purposely and continually cast on obama.
i do agree that when negative commentary is pulled from a site, it could suggest a bias. however, there is no mechanism which tallies all inappropriate content edited (liberal and conservative). who's to say this removal falls more in such a category than in a partisan one.
>sigh< but that's not NB's job, i guess. the dems are doing the same thing with palin. inferring things (some outright lies) with palin, throwing a shadow on her.
this dirty partisan politics just ugly. on both sides.
It's really simple, abp.
September 10, 2008 - 09:09 ET by Indiana JoeObama claims he's "never been a Muslim." Period.
Yet his bio includes going to a Muslim school while living with a Muslim relative and studying the Koran. He's said that the Muslim call to prayer is "one of the prettiest sounds" in the world.
This is about a lie. Not about Obama being a Muslim in his youth, about him lying about it now. If he merely said, yes, I studied Islam as a youth, this would not be an issue. Why would Obama try to deny his "roots?" Why does his campaign think this would be a negative for him? Transference, pure and simple. They know that if an opponent had a Muslim connection, they'd hammer that opponent over it. And please don't try the old mind-reading trick, "well, the evil, intolerant Republicans would slam him for it." That ship has sailed so often there's a hole worn in the hull.
Just like the problem with Clinton was NOT "sex," the problem with Obama is NOT "was or is he a Muslim."
It's the apparent LIE. And the apparent media bias in taking down the post referencing his (possibly minor) Muslim experiences.

Obama's Islamic Upbringing is OFF LIMITS
September 9, 2008 - 09:39 ET by CapitalismRulesNow that I have your attention......
Any attempt to brand Obama as a Muslim or an Islamic Radical is off limits for the MSMs and probably with good reason. The problem once again is the double standard. If Sarah Palin's downs syndrome baby is fair game for the media pit bulls, if George Allen's Macaca is fair game for the media pit bulls, if Mitt Romney's Mormanism is fair game for the media pit bulls, shouldn't something as simple as Obama's Muslim upbringing be okay to report on? Alas, they will hide this in a vault thousands of miles beneath the earth's crust.
Especially since George
September 9, 2008 - 10:18 ET by Indiana JoeEspecially since George Stephanopolos had to correct Obama's "mis-statement" about his "Muslim faith."
They must be afraid someone will find this reference right there in the "trustworthy" MSM database.

Muslim Call to Prayer
September 9, 2008 - 11:02 ET by mitchfloridaThe opening lines of the Adhan [Muslim call to prayer], translated, read as follows:
Allah is supreme ! Allah is supreme !
Allah is supreme ! Allah is supreme !

I witness that Muhammad is his prophet.

Nice try, New York Times. But you have to get up pretty early in the morning to fool Newsbusters.
