On Sunday, NewsBusters informed readers about how lies published by liberal bloggers are actually driving some of the mainstream media attacks against Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

On Tuesday, Newsweek not only published a Factcheck.org debunking of many of the falsehoods being spread by the Palin-haters, but also featured a link to the piece on the front-page of its website.

What follows is Factcheck.org's summary (emphasis added):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

We've been flooded for the past few days with queries about dubious Internet postings and mass e-mail messages making claims about McCain's running mate, Gov. Palin. We find that many are completely false, or misleading.

Palin did not cut funding for special needs education in Alaska by 62 percent. She didn't cut it at all. In fact, she tripled per-pupil funding over just three years.

She did not demand that books be banned from the Wasilla library. Some of the books on a widely circulated list were not even in print at the time. The librarian has said Palin asked a "What if?" question, but the librarian continued in her job through most of Palin's first term.

She was never a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, a group that wants Alaskans to vote on whether they wish to secede from the United States. She's been registered as a Republican since May 1982.

Palin never endorsed or supported Pat Buchanan for president. She once wore a Buchanan button as a "courtesy" when he visited Wasilla, but shortly afterward she was appointed to co-chair of the campaign of Steve Forbes in the state.

Palin has not pushed for teaching creationism in Alaska's schools. She has said that students should be allowed to "debate both sides" of the evolution question, but she also said creationism "doesn't have to be part of the curriculum."

Interesting. Read the entire analysis.

They know the lies are

They know the lies are hurting their cause, so that's the only reason why they are coming to Sarah's defense now.

“There are no easy answers' but there are simple answers. We must have the courage to do what we know is morally right.” - Ronald Reagan (1964 Republican Convention)

Exactly Right

All this publicity is helping the GOP not hurting like they planned.  The smart ones get it, but the morons like CNN and Olbermann still can't wrap their heads around the concept that Americans aren't the ignorant drones that can't think for themselves.  Believe it or not MSM, we can think for ourselves!

MSM = non-so-smart

Indeed the MSM has essentially forced genuinely smart people to think for themselves more and more, and had led the non-so-smart people to make fools of themselves, which the MSM now has to fend for, more and more.

Impunitas semper ad deteriora invitat.

It looks like some captains

It looks like some captains in the MSM have ordered full reverse power and a hard right rudder before they crash into the iceberg of complete disgrace. However, like the Titanic, it's really too late - and they've already begun to take on water and sink.

An apt analogy sir.

  Very good indeed!

Good job, Newsweek.

All we want is the facts.  Let everyone make a decision - either way - on the basis of the truth.

NEWSWEEK has seen the "middle class" subscription possiblities

Newsweek is smarter than I thought.....they see a subscription growth rate possibility..., middle America ....aka, Sarah Palin

This may be a Trend, in reaction to the Poll numbers everyone has been staring at.  Ceo's of media outlets trying to grow some subscription numbers ?

NBC just moved Olberman and chrissy, they have not quite done enough.

The Republican Revolution will not be Televised

I suspect that it's a ploy by Newsweek

They are only trying to stop the left from looking like jealous and vindictive high school girls, which is what the do look like now.

The day that "politician" became a career choice is the day we started losing the Republic. Let's get it back! Alan Keyes '08.

Hold on .... give me a

Hold on .... give me a second to get over the shock of the MSM lobing verbal bombs constructed by goons.   Ok, that didn't last too long.

Maybe Obama can enter a bill into legislation to stop the proliferation of verbal bombs/assults by liberal goons via the MSM.

MSM Doctrine: "Label it and it shall be so ... hopefully."

Exactly....and

it is kinda neat how they are tacking to the right AFTER both of the conventions are over and AFTER all the dirt has ben proliferated thoughout the MSM.

Almost as neat as pulling Chrissy and Olbedink off the news anchor desk, AFTER the conventions are over.

Your Titanic analogy is right on, too late, already beyond patching those holes in the hull.

Newsweek - refreshing move - for Newsweek

Newsweek - refreshing move - for Newsweek.

Bottom line remains - the problem is not so much the blogs, etc., but the MSM, which finds itself more than eager to push the slime and smears. Imagine what they [MSM] could have found said about Democrats in the past many years. The MSM only uses that, when they can use it to smear a Repbublican for saying it in the first place. (;~> gary

As I commented on Matthew's post.

FactCheck.org, which aimed to refute "dubious Internet postings and mass e-mail messages making claims about McCain's running mate"

The MSM has an ethical responsibility not to simply pass anything and everything along to the voting public, that ole uncle Walley had to say after 3 beers and two shots of whiskey.

We do remember what Barnicle and Mika had to say last week, right? It the reporters who want this stuff out.

It's the MSM that is pushing - shrilling - all of this crapola to the public, and it's for the purpose of putting their candidate in the White House. Same ole thing. (;~> gary

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day...

...but I'll betcha a nickel Newsweek's doing this to sell subscriptions.

Me cynical?  NAHHHHHHHHHHHH!

There has been such a huge

There has been such a huge wave of publicity recently regarding the media, both print and TV, and how liberal is its agenda. Newsweek, of course, is one of those liberal media.

The media’s ravaging of Sarah Palin was certainly a catalyst for this publicity.  Of course, NewsBusters has been in the forefront of publicising this liberal bias for a long time.

When Lou Dobbs will say “I can't think of another populous on CNN here”, as he did yesterday on his program, the public must be getting the message that our country’s mainstream media leans left and reports the news to the left.

I believe that the liberal media is so embarrassed by this attention that they may be attempting, at least temporarily, to move toward the center. Hopefully, NewsBusters, other websites, and Talk Radio can keep the pressure on the media to be more fair and balanced.

----------------

For those of us who respect Democrat analyst and FoxNews contributor Kirsten Powers, and who would like to see her replace Alan Colmes on Hannity and Colmes (I emailed both FoxNews and Sean Hannity and suggested this), her column today titled How Obama Blew It  is an example of her fairness. Rush Limbaugh read excerpts from her column on his show today.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

The liberal media continues to sacrifice ethics and morals for the greater cause: This time for the Election of a Democrat to the Presidency of the United States.

Good for Newsweek. Now all

Good for Newsweek. Now all the gullible liberal women on a Mothers board I post on will hopefully stop believing all these rumors. They're not going to come here and get the truth, but maybe one of their favorite liberal rags will finally get the message across to them.

Odd that factcheck would

Odd that factcheck would print the truth about Palin when they have been so diligent in scrubbing the truth about Obama.  Boggling indead.  I wonder what their angle is.

Newsweek's lopsided presentation

Exactly right!

When Newsweek starts printing factual feature articles on Obama’s main administrative experience as head of the Annenburg Challenge, we should be in a better position to assess just how repenting Newsweek is of its lopsided presentation of the news.

Impunitas semper ad deteriora invitat.

The truth about Gov. Palin

The truth about Gov. Palin is being revealed anyway so Newsweek is trying to head it off at the pass. Newsweek is still just as left-wing extremist but they are trying to stop the hemorrhaging of readership.

Will wonders ever cease?

You really wonder why such ad homien attacks exist.  There is a proverb that says that he who argues by slinging nothing but mud lives in it.
