In today's "Better Late Than Never" moment, MSNBC has just announced that Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann will no longer act as anchors of the network's election coverage.
Let me be the first to say that it's about time.
As reported by Brian Stelter at the New York Times moments ago (emphasis added, h/t's to all that forwarded this to us):
MSNBC tried a bold experiment this year by putting two politically incendiary hosts, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, in the anchor chair to lead the cable news channel’s coverage of the election. [...]
After months of accusations of political bias and simmering animosity between MSNBC and its parent network NBC, the channel decided over the weekend that the NBC News correspondent and MSNBC host David Gregory would anchor news coverage of the coming debates and election night. Mr. Olbermann and Mr. Matthews will remain as analysts during the coverage.
The change — which comes in the home stretch of the long election cycle — is a direct result of tensions associated with the channel’s perceived shift to the political left.
“The most disappointing shift is to see the partisan attitude move from prime time into what’s supposed to be straight news programming,” said Davidson Goldin, formerly the editorial director of MSNBC and a co-founder of the reputation management firm DolceGoldin.
Readers are encouraged to review the entire piece, as it seems people chanting "NBC, NBC" on Wednesday when vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin referred to media bias during her speech at the Republican National Convention, as well as comments Olbermann made Thursday evening concerning a segment dealing with 9/11, were the straws that broke the camel's back.
It goes without saying that this is indeed a happy day for the country and journalism. Now, MSNBC should do he right thing and cancel the disgraceful "Countdown."
It really only seems a matter of time.
Maybe most delicious, wouldn't it be fitting if Palin's comments Wednesday, along with the attendees' responses, drove the final nails into Matthews and Olbermann's coffins?
That's what I call entertainment.
As an aside, was Olbermann on tonight's "Sunday Night Football?"

So What?
September 7, 2008 - 21:25 ET by saw the lightIt was only a matter of time before these two windbags were out. It was easy to see the complete disdain Olbermann had for any conservative. After each speech, he immediately "corrected" things stated in the speech. I don't think he did that for any liberal, complete with fawning about the "grand slam" speech during the DNC.
It was a good start.

September 8, 2008 - 00:44 ET by usinkoreaOlbermann is the left's Rush Limbaugh given a cable TV spot. As long as he can draw in his target audience, they will probabaly keep him for some years. They obviously weren't going for someone with mass appeal when promoting him to the nation. And if his target audience is more viewership than MSNBC enjoys normally, they won't feel the need to get rid of him. He might even turn into a type of TV Howard Stern - pulling in anti-Olbermann viewers to pad the numbers as they love to hate him...

It's really sad though because the media has almost two months to try and reverse it. I remember in 2004 how pumped I was after the convention. Non political types never get to hear the Republican side of the story except at their convention and then through advertising.

IMO, this decision would not have been made if KO's viscious tactics had been successful against the Republicans. Their attacks backfired so NBC wants to stop the bleeding. But maybe I'm just being cynical.

Since Matthews and Olbermann had proven themselves biased, before they got the gig, one has to wonder how they're going to judge Gregory. In that same NewYork Times article that Noel referenced, the Times is reporting: "Just last year, Mr. Olbermann signed a four-year, $4-million-a-year contract with MSNBC. NBC is close to supplementing that contract with Mr. Olbermann, extending his deal through 2013 — and ensuring that he will be on MSNBC through the next election."
But at least removing Olbermann and Matthews from the anchor seat is a start.

The liberal media continues to sacrifice ethics and morals for the greater cause: This time for the Election of a Democrat to the Presidency of the United States.
Why really did NBC dump Olbermann and Matthews?
September 7, 2008 - 23:58 ET by Lame CherryWhy on earth are the people here cheering this as David Gregory is worse than atomic bomb head Olbermann and potty mouth Matthews combined.
This is no victory for Truth.
Now that the class' attention is starting to focus, the question is why did NBC dump these two?
Mr. Sheppard knows better than his remarks this had nothing to do with the GOP chanting anything.
As NBC could care less about smearing any American and how it appears in fake stories to the spitoon of the Morning Meredith and the bias of Brian Williams, so what would move NBC to bash the volcanic word boys.
Hmmmm, perhaps story is due..........
Once upon a time not so long ago there lived a fair Rodham who was fairest of them all, but her naughty Prince Clinton went off and didn't give the cut in a uranium deal to the Rothschilds.
Naughty Bill had to be punished so they took the nomination from him by making his Rockefeller peers force Hillary to throw the election.
It was most amusing to see Hillary campaigning in Ohio in districts of 187 voters tossing the election Obama could not win.
But alas pray tell, what harkened from yonder MSNBC, but Olbermann and Matthews both signed on to Al Gore's election draft by having on the Mrs. Edwards thrashing Ann Coulter and Hillary Clinton while John was out working on his zipper.
The silly volcano boys thought the wicked witch was all locked up in the oven forever, but it never lasts in families of the cartel as penance was administered.
Hillary Clinton took names, made lists and what she didn't take down Bill used a hot iron and burned them into wood so as never to forget the little people who ever dared touch the royal robe.
I posted here when this was dusting up that the first person Hillary Clinton was going after was Chris Matthews.
Voila, Matthews is properly castrated.
Do not ever loose site of Dame Hamrod as Rush Limbaugh warned you people. This woman being asked by Obama to campaign for him after the way he slapped her around and abuse her. Obama humiliated the Clintons in rationing out money to them and not paying off their campaign debt when he had 500 million bucks this summer and Hillary only needed 10 million.
The fang marks on Olbermann and Matthews have the marks of the she wolf in this tale and 2 little piggies just got roasted.
If these people were bright they would run off to Europe where Hillary might not follow them as she is going to twist the knife hard. This is her calling card and you can bet on it all those daffy liberals in the media who Obama'ed themselves to orgasm are going to be bitten one by one.
Right now Hillary is surveying the situation in deciding if she wants Phil Berg's legal action to take Obama out on his not being a natural citizen or she will leave stuttering Obama twist in the wind longer.
Hillary might force Al Gore into this race now that she is in position as he ran her off the ticket humiliating her. Payback is a Hillary and if Al wanted this so bad she just might with the New York cartel now that accounts are all settled let him go down to another humiliating defeat to have him forever gone.
I know Hillary is too intelligent to jump into a race if Obama goes down and she also will never allow his replacement to beat John McCain.
It is in her interest now for age reasons and to allow the public to see a woman in power in Sarah Palin to set the stage for her.
If I were Barack Obama, I would have emergency tickets for German exile. If I was David Axelrod, I would have emergency tickets for Israel and Tom Daschle, my boy, the Clintons tossed you aside for the dupe you are and then you had to go and join the Chicago cartel and help rub it in with Barack Obama. Paris would be a good place for you to go son.
I'm betting Hillary is baaaaaack, so you can thank her for Matthews and Olbermans testicles nailed to the wall.
Don't cheer to long though as she is the GOP's best asset now for her reasons, and while one can appreciate her talents, Mrs. Clinton is best left like Napoleon on a desert isle because she has the New York syndicate that runs this hemisphere in her family backing and the Clintons have a knack unlike Grandpa David for hiring nasty people who thump your people leaving them in Fort Marcy Park.
Chris Wallace on FOX was very naughty in allowing David Axelrod free rants today and in bashing John McCain. Hillary does not like that and if she comes calling Chris, it is not going to be a pointy fingered Bill raging at you, it is going to be empress.
.........and there is not going to be they all lived happily ever after.
Hillary is back.

Here lies Arthur, [our] once and future king.

September 8, 2008 - 09:32 ET by marpelMSNBC still hasn't redeemed itself. Rachel I'm-more-of-a-man-than-Keith-or-Chris Maddow's show starts tonight. She'll carry on the Daily KOSMSNBC tradition; at least for a few weeks.
My Democrat sister
September 8, 2008 - 10:02 ET by doodlebugI talked about this to my Democrat sister this morning and she is actually happy to see them go. Even she can acknowledge how slanted the media has become and she is offended that they just can't be "fair". Fortunately she is so fed up she assured me that after 30 years of voting every election she will not go out and vote for Obama. Unfortunately I can't persuade her to vote for McCain......
Posturing
September 8, 2008 - 10:15 ET by Wildcatter1980I suspect this is merely posturing on the part of NBC News. They can see that there is a backlash against the awful and disgusting media attacks on Gov. Palin. Someone over there has finally realized that they had better put the appearance of being a legitimately unbiased news organization or all they will have left is the far left nutroots and that ain't good.

Why NBC made the move
September 8, 2008 - 11:40 ET by Kevin HalpernBecause Tim Russert is no longer around, thus no one has been in charge to control the rantings and ravings of childish clowns like Matthews and Olbermann.
I do not know what Mr. Russert would have thought of her politically, but I have a feeling he would have admired her, and her story, personally.
