Time's Joe Klein went on quite a tirade during Sunday's "The Chris Matthews Show" calling John McCain's nomination acceptance speech at the just-concluded Republican National Convention "truly offensive."
Amongst other things, Klein was disappointed that McCain didn't talk about the 6.1 percent unemployment rate in the nation despite this being impossible as that economic news wasn't released until Friday morning hours after the speech concluded.
Klein also claimed that McCain "doesn't care about domestic policy" and "doesn't know about the economy" (image courtesy socialmedia.biz.):
The most amazing part of that speech to me was the broad swath in the middle where he talked about policy. And he was just mailing it in. He doesn't care about policy. He doesn't care about domestic policy at all. He doesn't know about the economy. You know, the fact is that this week was a kind of Orwellian bit of prestidigitation. "Let's not talk about where the country is. Let's not talk about where Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae and 6.1 percent unemployment. Let's not talk about the fact that the level of piece in Iraq is kind of shaky at this moment. Let's not talk about any of that. Let's talk about mooseburgers. I mean, it was truly offensive. We have to have a serious election discussion.
Hmmm. So, I guess what Klein found truly offensive was that McCain had the nerve to not echo Democrat talking points at the Republican National Convention.
Oh the humanity.
On the other hand, given what Klein said a few moments later -- "They only mentioned the word 'Republican' a handful of times during the whole week" -- it makes one wonder if Klein was actually listening to any of the speeches.
After all, McCain said 'Republican' three times during his speech, Cindy McCain said it twice, and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said it once.
Add it up, the word "Republican" was mentioned six times during the final two hours of the convention alone, all in prime time, which once again proves that facts are inconvenient to liberal media members when they get in the way of bashing conservatives.
As such, what's truly offensive, Joe, is how you'll say and write anything you want regardless of accuracy to get your guy elected. Bully for you.

September 7, 2008 - 14:17 ET by dscottKlein must have been memorizing Obama's Audacity Book of Hope. He and Obama are hoping no one will notice that Obama and his buddies Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have the audacity to sabotage the economy with the drilling ban restricting oil production and thus driving up the price of gasoline. Klein has been hoping that no will notice that the two stooges so called CEOs of Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac were incompetent Clintoon appointees.
What's truly offensive there Joe is your propagandizing for the Democrat Party to cover up their incompetence and then have the audacity to blame the Repubs for your failed ideology that put millions of people out of work for political ends.

September 7, 2008 - 14:42 ET by ThisnThatSara Paulin will notice the lousy job the Senate has done; and will rake Joe Biden over the coals during the VP debate on it. Her record of oil and gas production and delivery will be contrasted against Joe Biden's votes on the same; and her wit and charm will "drill" a laser hole right thru Biden's heart.
For the record, Biden was one of 5 senators against the original Alaska pipeline in 1972. He also has 34 years of history voting against ANWR. Sara Pelin is going to destroy him on this.

September 7, 2008 - 14:35 ET by Lame CherryMr. Sheppard, the greatest measure of the brilliance of John and Cindy McCain is their ability to just make these liberals go insane with dripping drool ranting on.
I'm a John Philips Sousa kind of based person in I love this American nation and people. I love bunting like John Madden, love balloon drops like Jim Leher and love Rudi Guiliani laughing on stage giving Obama the business as the crowd goes wild.
Those things though in "red meat" as that term was passed over this time do not really bother Klein, Clarence Page, David Brooks and other droolers. What gets the spit going in these types is the 9 11 film the RNC presented and of all things the humbleness (that is the word from a Hillary supporter in describing John McCain) of John McCain.
I watch the 9 11 film and it does not appeal as it is sorrowful. In my TR nature I want the firemen raising the flag, the police rescueing people, the heroic nature of the people on the planes praying in their last moments and remembering their loved ones as the triumph of honor over evil.
Klein though and his ilk see the warning of 9 11 and the humility of John McCain caring for others and just go insane.
I thankfully do not subscribe to that pyschopathy, but in it John McCain and Sarah Palin both provide me endless hours of entertainment watching these cranks get crankier.
Frankly, I'm currently surprised that the Democrats have not in Reid and Pelosi tried to pass a bill terming John McCain illegal as he is torturing Chris Matthews, Charlie Rose and all the other Obamaniacs in his brilliant campaign.
McCain can utter a few words and these cranks go wild. Obama talks for hours and people on the American side just laugh at how inept he is.
That is what winning looks like and Klein is furious he lost another election and for the next almost 2 months he is going to have his nose rubbed in it venting daily his fury about backing another looser and being exposed now as a political rapist.
They thought they has corrupted McCain with flattery and now he has become the eagle tearing into them with his Palin talons.
God bless. Is not America wonderful!

September 7, 2008 - 14:43 ET by rick007The Dem's try and have it two ways.
1. They want gas prices high to go after Cheney and Bush with their no drill policies.
2. Then they complain about unemployment.
And they have done this in less that 2 years.
Check gas prices before and after they took over congress for the facts.
The stupidity of it is that the first is the primary cause of the second.
But thats the Lib. mindset and their rank and file are to stupid to connect them.
While we are talking
September 7, 2008 - 14:54 ET by dscottWhile we are talking offensive, we need to expose the most egregious pandering and vote buying in the history of US politics. This surpasses the chicken in every pot pandering. Obama is offering a $1,000 bribe to the voters with his tax rebate and the most outrageous part is funding that bribe by taking investment funds (so called windfall profits) from the oil companies to pay the bribe.
http://econospeak.bl...
The net effect of taking Obama's bribe is a REDUCTION of drilling for oil thus causing the price of gasoline to INCREASE over the long term. The Socialist Maxine Waters let the cat out of the bag a few months ago with wanting to nationalize the oil industry. Why nationalize unless...you can seize all the profits to fund government operations if you can't steal enough in taxes to buy more votes from social pandering programs.

Talk about not talking, where does Mr Klein mention media layoffs?
Gannett announced 3,000 layoffs for September.
How many have the NYT, Chicago Tribune, Boston Globe, Washing Post... laid off?
Why isn't Mr Klein paying attention not only to the current numbers but to the growing ones?

Is Klein in a dark hole?
September 7, 2008 - 18:00 ET by Gary HallNoel. What is with the non-stop claims that McCain doesn't have a clue about the economy, how working folks are having a difficult time .. about jobs? Then Klein (great graphic) suggests that in Mac's speech nothing is addressed.
Will end here with a few excerpts from McCain's speech, but first:
Seems to me, that it is well established (and Klein has read) that the problems with the housing markets (the bad mortgages), the lending crisis, etc., have their roots back in the Clinton years - it may be bi-partisan - and in the direction from the Democratic congress to force lenders to give loans to unqualified minorities (so that they wouldn't miss out - in chasing the bubble). And in the moment - these past many months, and today - the current administration has been hands on in massive restructuring and bailouts and supportive of much of the legislation the D's want. This admin. has been exceedingly pro-active. How come we keep hearing that they're doing nothing?
Now - a bit from McCain's acceptance speech:
Can't you read, Klein?

Exactly. Liberals alway
September 7, 2008 - 19:57 ET by SmartypantsExactly. Liberals alway froth at the mouth if conservatives do not admit responsibility for anything that is going wrong at the time. Biden and Obama are both senators. Have either of these guys admitted any responsibility for the current high energy prices, which are by far the most significant reason for the economic struggles? Have either of these guys admitted that their negative talk of the Iraq War may have actually served to embolden the enemy and, thereby, extended that conflict, costing more American lives? Of course not, the template is that everything is Bush's (i.e., Republicans') fault. Only idiots or the truly uninformed believe this nonsense. Democrats have run congress now for almost two years, and the economy has gone south since they took over. Bush's tax cuts helped keep the economy moving, when it could have gone cold, after 9/11, and for years after that. He was given no credit for the years of growth and job creation; yet the media wants to assign all blame to him for what's going on now.
