The Obama audacity watch continued Saturday morning as the junior senator from Illinois Freudian-slipped in front of a crowd in Terre Haute, Indiana, telling them he's already president:
“People ask me, they say what are your impressions of America. What have you learned since being President? Er, since being a candidate for President?”
I'm sure the media will be all over this one.

Just a slipup
September 6, 2008 - 13:53 ET by Adam_MEIt's amusing, but I don't think it's anything more than a goof on his part. I'm frankly amazed this doesn't happen all the time with the number of speeches and campaign stops these guys(and one lady) make.
He has been running for President so long though that it's often easy to forget there's one currently in the White House. It's a dangerous precedent that's being set with these campaigns starting so early. In the future, a President entering his or her 2nd term could now be considered a lame duck after a month.
I've watched this clip
September 6, 2008 - 14:02 ET by Prez RudyI've watched this clip several times, and as amuzing to me as it is, I can't help think that this was not a slip up at all. BO's ego is so big now, I believe he just wanted to hear himself say it. Or for a moment, he actually thought he was President. That's pretty frightening to me.

I agree, it's WAY too
September 6, 2008 - 14:07 ET by GregEI agree, it's WAY too much. We're in perpetual campaigning and as such, keeping voters will be (and is) more important than America itself.
Think about it, remember the start ot 2006 it was all about the 2006 Congressional elections. Then it happened, in November. By February/March 2007, the presidential candidates began to announce and that crapfest began. Here we are 2 months from that election, over 18 months from when all the noise started 24/7. We'll elect a president, 2009 will be quiet of elections, then February/March 2010 the Congressional election crapfest will begin yet again. Those will happen in November 2010, and by March 2011, it's time again for another set of presidential candidates to announce for 2012, and the cycle continues.
It's getting stupid. The Left whines about a military industrial complex. The political electionary industrial complex is probably larger than many actual product/service producing industries.
Adam
September 6, 2008 - 14:10 ET by MrShyI totally agree. It's great grist to have, month after month, but it's really perverted (to use that idiot Jacob's favorite word) how it's a never-ending, seamless cycle of campaigning in our system.
They HAVE to enact some new law that only allows politicians to, say, begin their primaries on the year of the general election and not the previous one, like 2007 in this one. Also, throw out the nonsense of these primaries stretching over months, from state to state. It's absurd.

September 6, 2008 - 13:56 ET by mom_roxoops.
first one: Jonathon Capehart, WaPo, expressed his sentiment that Sarah Palin needed to do media interviews by saying, "She needs to face the firing, uh, not firing squad ..." (and it won't the Barack Obama special with the rubber bullets.)

I'm not surprised Obama made that slip. Don't forget the embroidered president label on his airplane seat.

Obama, you are now a long shot... a very long shot. If you don't start putting real substance and ideas into your speeches, prepare to lose big not only on November 4th, but in your next Senate race, because by then you'll literally be exposed, and disposed of, having worn out your 15-minute welcome... just a suit laying on the floor, like what happened to the wicked witch at the end of Wizard of Oz.

September 6, 2008 - 14:03 ET by Noel Sheppardcg,
Though that is the official designation by folks from Indiana, it's dangerous to use that in a headline because many folks outside of Indiana don't know what a Hoosier is. ns

September 6, 2008 - 14:45 ET by Noel SheppardB,
Well, and that's part of the problem, for if you say "Hoosiers," then that could add to the confusion: "What, he spoke to a basketball team?"
In all honesty, I never heard the term Hoosier until I became a college basketball fan. I bet many Americans have never heard the term. ns
NS & B
September 6, 2008 - 14:50 ET by MrShyI sort of agree, but then, you could have used "Hoosiers" in the headline and then right away start the first paragraph with "Indiana" (within the first sentence, at least), since the threads/articles on the homepage do include at least the first 1-2 paragraphs.
Btw, NS, great work you and everyone did in St. Paul! (the fast updates, videos, etc..)

September 6, 2008 - 14:24 ET by MrShyLike Blonde pointed out, his gaffes go way beyond just "gaffes". This one just underscores the presumptive nature of him and his campaign, so it's indeed a laugh riot.
His campaign is one snowballing, ego-maniacal gaffe. His European "tour", his presidential seal, the Roman/Greco staging erected for his acceptance speech at his second of *TWO* venues at the DNC.
It's all laughable, really. No wonder he's the darling of Hollywood... and at this rate, only Hollywood (well, and just about every single black voter and all the clueless liberals in the blue states.)
