The Obama campaign continues to rack up the ironies - some funny some not so much. Did anyone cover the Glenn Beck discussion about the actual lyrics of the Obama introduction music: "City of the Blinding Lights"?

Like the set of Ben Hur... will there be chariot races?  Maybe some GOP gladiators getting torn to bits by lions? 

If his entrance is produced to where he rises up from the stage, I'll puke.

Maybe China could lend him their digital fireworks display.

Some of you are being really jokey about Obama "descending to" or "rising up" from the stage.  But I want to be serious here.

What is going to happen is that the whole stadium will go dark, and suddenly there will be a huge thunder clap, with a dazzling bolt of lightning striking the stage, and from the resulting cloud of smoke, Obama will walk out, with a very intense look on his face.

The stadium will then fill with the swelling notes of Thus Spake Zarathustra as Obama mimes through a truly amazing set of magic tricks and illusions.  The set will follow a highly nuanced and complex narrative of hope and change.  He will, before the eyes of thousands, transform mundane (and sometimes ugly) objects to the stuff of dreams.

And at the set's climax, Obama will shower, from thin air, cakes and loaves of bread into the crowd, which at this point will be in the throes of ecstasy.  This will be done to the Barry White classic "Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe"

Okay, I'll truly be serious this time... I think what they're trying to do is re-create the front of the Lincoln memorial, where Dr. King made his speech.  If this is the case, they're trying to bridge a historical civil rights leader with a modern black candidate for president.

But God, it looks so cheesy (from the picture I've seen).  It looks like something from Disney World.  It only makes it that much harder to ignore the fact that this whole thing IS a facade.

But the Obamanoids will do their best to ignore it.

 In addition to being a huge waste of money in terms of what the Obama campaign is spending, let's consider the logistics of securing an open-air stadium with a seating capacity of 76,000 and a closed arena with seating for 20,000.  Will the US taxpayer be responsible for the added manpower?  According to the HuffPo, it will.

The Secret Service has asked for an extra $9.5 million to cover unexpected costs of protecting the presidential candidates during what has turned into an historic year for the agency's campaign security job.  Among other things, the extra money would be used for the added costs for the candidates' international travel and a late-in-the-game decision by Barack Obama to accept the Democratic nomination at Denver's Invesco Field at Mile High _ an open-air, 76,000-seat stadium _ instead of the 20,000-seat Pepsi Center, which is the site of the party's national convention.

Obama has also created additional costs for the media.  [Hey, he can't be all bad.]

The move to Invesco Field represents a logistical nightmare and demonstrates a fiscal irresponsibility on the part of the DNC and Obama Campaign. Network executives, quick to promote the move are now realizing that the new venue will cause their networks to blow their budgets set aside for the Democratic Convention. With ad slots already sold, the networks are unable to adjust their costs and now must swallow hundreds of thousands of dollars in new costs to cover the convention. The move is also questionable considering that the DNC has fallen far short of raising of the $40 million that they estimated the convention to cost. As a result the DNC has already scaled back on festivities and are likely to make further cuts to accommodate the estimated $3 million price tag for the Invesco speech. Knowing how political parties operate, it is safe to assume that the actual price tag will most likely balloon to well over $5 million.

Let's pick a number out of the air, say $10 million bucks of taxpayer and donors' money down the drain for this extravaganza to ego.  Obama's right, this isn't politics as usual.  In the United States, we've never had Roman spectacle before.

I turned on TV a few minutes ago and witnessed the throngs packing the stadium, the huge "marble" columns, etc. Then quickly I realized I was tuned to TCM (Turner Classic Movies) and what I was seeing was the start of the chariot race in BEN-HUR.
