Headline: 'Are Clintons Leaving the National Scene?'

Is the following headline wishful thinking on the part of a media outlet hoping for unity at this week's Democratic National Convention, or good journalistic inquisitiveness: "Are Clintons Leaving the National Scene?"

Now, as conservatives, we mightn't care which, for whatever the reason, they'd be "melted," and we'd be doing a jig around a puddle in the middle of a castle floor while carrying a partially burned broom.

With that delicious image in your head, you decide whether this Reuters piece is advocacy or good journalism (emphasis added):

This week at Barack Obama's big party in Denver, Americans are watching Democrats Bill and Hillary Clinton pass from the national stage, at least for now, and all indications are that it is a difficult departure. [...]

They are receding from the limelight to give way to Obama's historic run for president, but they are not going quietly. [...]

Some Clinton believers think that should Obama stumble in November, then maybe she could again rise as the go-to Democrat to run in 2012, when she would be 64.

"You can just never count these two out," said a former Clinton White House official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Nonetheless, this Democrat said, their back-to-back appearances this week has the feel of "sort of a capstone" on the Clinton era, a passing of the torch to Obama.

What do you think? Is this author sacrificing the Clintons at the altar of the Obamessiah, or doing a good job of asking a serious question about this couple's political future?

Clintons

Sacrificing the Clintons?  Hardly.  One would have to drive a silver stake through their black little hearts before they'd go away.

They'll hole up for a while and lick their wounds.

But they'll be back.  They can't help themselves.  They are addicted to the limelight.

This is wishful thinking all the way.

As Appealling As That Sounds

I can't imagine the Clinton's egos being able to accept a self-imposed exile.  Bill especially has fought and clawed his way into the national limelight and since he's barred from further time in office, he's completely dependent on keeping in the limelight to feed his ego.  Hillary although less likeable than Bill, is nonetheless very ego driven needs to have that public exposure.  Of course, she's got her Senate seat and that may be enough, but I'd fully expect her to challenge for the presidency again in 2012.

Not that I think it's going to happen, but if the Clintons were to decide to leave public life, this would be an opportunity to go out with a bang.  Get up on successive nights and rip Obama to shreds to the horror of the left and MSM and the delight of the rest of us.

geoff,

Get up on successive nights and rip Obama to shreds to the horror of the left and MSM and the delight of the rest of us.

You have no idea how badly I would love to see exactly that.  :-)

Dave

I'm not a fan of pay TV, but I'd pay to watch that!  I'd even buy the DVD to keep in my collection.

Powerless

All they have left is foot soldiers. The officers,(MSM), have abandoned their posts and have jumped on the Hussein train. The only plan of attack is to aid the Republicans. The enemy of my enemy..., They should have known it was over when the race card was played.

Leaving? I think not.

First clue. Has anyone heard Hillary, Bill or any of their surrogates even get upset over the use of Hillary's quotes against Obama in McCain commercials?

Hillary and Bill have been pushing just the right buttons to make sure Obama is not elected so Hillary has 2012 locked up. What they have not considered is new competition of younger and more dynamic men and women contenders.

The backstory to this song is an interesting read.  I wonder if the braintrust responsible for "Steam" are somehow involved in His Hopelessness:  The Obama's rise.

Going quietly?

Get the hook for Bubba!

Bubba will do everything he can to upstage Obama if the latter is elected.  He'll have to do something to keep commanding top dollar on the rubber chicken circuit.

That Picture!!

It's so hypnotizing, I can't look away from that expression on her face. She's got that Lady MacBeth look to her and it gives me chills it's so evil looking!

That picture??

My guess is that picture was taken a mere millisecond after Slick Willie acknowledged that...

"Yes honey, the Blue dress is going to be an issue."

Sad, really.

Personally, I think it's kind of sad (granted that it sounds more like a baseless opinion than anything else). What it really comes down to is that the Clintons were not EXTREME enough. When I was 18, I registered as a Democrat, and in the words of Ronald Reagan, "I didn't leave the Democratic party; the party left me."

Keeping the country out of the hands of the liberal extremes is a job worth doing, but I'd like to see the donkey kick off these loud mouthed, far left elements that have dragged it so far off the mainstream that they can't win an election. For all of Bush's lack of popularity, he still beat the best the Democrats could offer. Twice. And their solution? Go even MORE extreme!

I miss the two party system. You know, back when you could get two candidates and feel that both had merits and could lead the country. Now we get moderate Republicans but the Democrats are so far left, I can barely see them anymore. I want the old Democratic party back -- back before George Soros and Hollywood told them what to think and fed them biased half-truths to push the gullible down a particular lane of thought.

TC... Good luck. Maybe

TC...

Good luck.

Maybe if Soros realizes he is losing the war...he may leave and quit being such a huge money making control freak to the leftist party...

I detest him and the control he is trying to take of the USA.

His hand picked sock-puppet along with the Chicago machine may be the answer for our prayers to do him in...once and for all.

But I really doubt it.

NEVER!!!

I don't think the Clintons will EVER go away.  She has wanted this for her entire life, and she is too smart and too politically savvy to crawl away and lick her wounds and never be seen again.  If she and Bill can't stage a coup at the convention this year, she will spend the next four years ramping up her 2012 campaign.  And even though the media adore Obama right now, Hillary will still be a go-to person for interviews and commentary to criticize whatever the next president says or does.  Bill and Hill can't stand not to be in the limelight, and I think they see themselves as the second coming of the Kennedy clan to be the elder statesmen in the Democrat party, especially with Ted Kennedy dying.  (I guess it's a good thing they came from small families, or we'd NEVER be rid of Clintons!)

They're too young, too ambitious, too politically savvy and too power-hungry to just go away.  And I even wonder if they're grooming Chelsea for a life of "public service."
