AP Headline: 'Biden Pick Shows Lack of Confidence'

Here's something you don't see every day: an Associated Press writer actually publishing something negative about a Democrat...let alone one named Obama.

But, there it was Saturday, with a headline even more curious: "Analysis: Biden Pick Shows Lack of Confidence."

The Obamessiah lacks confidence? Such wrote Ron Fournier (emphasis added, photo courtesy AP):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

In picking Sen. Joe Biden to be his running mate, Barack Obama sought to shore up his weakness - inexperience in office and on foreign policy - rather than underscore his strength as a new-generation candidate defying political conventions. [...]

The picks say something profound about Obama: For all his self-confidence, the 47-year-old Illinois senator worried that he couldn't beat Republican John McCain without help from a seasoned politician willing to attack. [...]

And there's the 2007 ABC interview in which Biden said he would stand by an earlier statement that Obama was not ready to serve as president. [...]

So the question is whether Biden's depth counters Obama's inexperience - or highlights it?

It seems Obama is worried that some voters are starting to agree.

Strong analysis, Ron. Yet, something he missed is the possibility that the recent invasion of Georgia by Russia changed the entire calculus of Obama's decision. As the Washington Post's Dan Balz wrote Saturday:

The die may have been cast for Biden when the Russians invaded Georgia a few weeks ago. Until then, Obama may have believed he had more latitude in his choice of a vice president. Once the tanks rolled, the discussion shifted toward someone in the mix who would raise no questions in the area of national security.

This became more and more apparent as polls taken after the Russian invasion showed respondents much more confident in McCain to be able to handle a revitalized imperialist Russia.

This raises an interesting question that press members should be asking in the days and months ahead: if Obama agrees with citizens' concerns about his own foreign policy acumen and inexperience, should America be electing such a man president with wars raging in Afghanistan and Iraq, an ongoing war on terrorism, and a resurgent and suddenly well-funded Russia seemingly looking to regain its super power status?

Biden's been in Congress

Biden's been in Congress for 35+ yrs., so much for the whole Change message. Looks to me like the guy running for president should be the Veep and vice versa.

At any rate did anyone else notice that the text message anouncing Biden as the V.P. went out at 3 a.m. ? You know the "3 a.m. phone call" thingy ? Is that an extra slap in the face to Hillary or what ? LOL !

Yeap, quite a slap at

Yeap, quite a slap at Hillary's face!  Obama is subtly vindictive. IMO, no one is going to be sorry seeing the uppity twirp get snookered at the Dem first round ballot.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, starving the poor one gallon of ethanol at a time. Fill your tank with E85 and cull a village.

I'd love to see Hillary go

I'd love to see Hillary go to the convention --- and then just before the first ballot, announce her VP candidate.

LOL ! That would be

LOL ! That would be hysterical, but hang on to your hats ladies and gents another thing the s-delegates get to vote on is the V.P. slot, if Hillary is awarded a ridiculous amount of s-delegate votes, they may just award her the V.P. slot to prevent sour grapes with her and her supporters.. This aint' over by a long shot. : )

3:00am

I was thinking about the confidence this shows in Biden. Obviously O'bama didn't want to take any questions -- or, given Biden's reputation, let Biden answer any questions.

How will they give press conferences???

I think it's already been shown that neither Obama nor Biden can be trusted to speak off the cuff without putting both feet in their respective mouths, so how will they ever make it through an actual press conference?  Better have a BIG supply of teleprompters handy!

I commented in an earlier

I commented in an earlier thread that the MSM was, in general, talking about this as a "smart" move, shoring up his foreign policy credentials.
However, they treated it as proof that he had no substance when George W. Bush picked Cheney as his VP.
Nice to see at least one journalist is looking at this honestly.

Well good for Ron...wonder

Well good for Ron...wonder how the AP is going to cover the speeches that they both gave a bit ago.

Bluster seems to be a new talking point word with the left...won't last long in my opinion.

The reference Biden used about McCain not having to worry about sitting at a kitchen table figuring about how to pay bills, he has seven of them....blah blah blah...

Or the foot soldier reference...we don't need a foot soldier we need a wise leader...that isn't going to work...

We can't afford 4 or 8 more years of the same old thing, tying Bush to McCain quite a few times...we cannot sacrifice our moral standing around the world...blah blah blah...

Obama has a spine of steel...he's a clear-eyed pragmatist who will get the job done...

It was all bluster and BS...

One thing about it all though, Biden had no teleprompter....Obama did...

That tells you a lot right there.

Thanks mb... Now that

Thanks mb...

Now that picture says a lot doesn't it...plus when I went there a second ago...they have a picture of McCain on top, then the one you are referring to, then right beneath this one Hill speaking and Obama sitting behind her too!

Oh...talk about priceless...and this is all in a vertical row...

The cherry on top of all of this is for me anyway...these are FOUR Senators.

Shy, it is the Clintons and

Shy, it is the Clintons and they think they are the King and Queen of that party and look at Obama as a field hand that has taken over masters house. They aint' gonna let a little thing like not gettin' nominated keep them from the Whitehouse again, at least not without a nasty knock-down, drag-out. Hill and Bill will be leaving Denver kicking and screaming.

Half the nutroots are split right now and I've been seeing some nasty infighting going on over there today with alot of them, which brings a warm, joyous, cozy feeling to my heart.

What sites are you "right wing trolling" ? :p Just kidding, the "trolling" part. I take it, you're just browsing and reading... just curious where you're seeing the infighting, like HuffPo, DailyKos and the like? Or just various news coming out of the actual Demo party?

Not so much over at Kos

Not so much over at Kos because he censors and quashes all dissent over there, but over at MyDD the un-official site where all of the Hill supporters went to on their mass exodus from D.K. there some pretty good fighting going on.

The Puma's and NO Quarter folks are outraged but no surprise there.

I do not know for sure

I do not know for sure TnT...but it seems like I have heard that there hasn't been.

...and with this dynamic duo there still won't be.

Uhmm, Kennedy/Johnson

Uhmm, Kennedy/Johnson perhaps...? I could be wrong.

I think Kennedy/Johnson was

I think Kennedy/Johnson was the last time, and one of the few times 2x senators won together. While Obama might like to compare himself to Kennedy, it'll be laughable if Biden tries to compare himself to Johnson. Like him or not, old LBJ was an order of magnitude above Biden.

1960?

Weren't JFK and LBJ both senators in 1960?

Kennedy - Johnson

Weren't JFK and LBJ both senators in 1960?

Yes, indeed.  Kennedy was - like B. Hussein - pretty unaccomplished.  Well, not that unaccomplished.

LBJ had been majority leader.  Bobby K. despised LBJ, but they needed him to bring along Texas and maybe a few other Western/Southern states.

Kennedy was unaccomplished.

Kennedy was unaccomplished. But, at least he had served his country, didn't think losing wars was a good idea, and wasn't a socialist like the current candidate. The only thing Kennedy and Obama have in common are the graveyard voters in Chicago.

At least with Kennedy...

At least Kennedy was a war hero (of sorts); he had military service under his belt, rather than an inborn loathing of the military.

I find it interesting that McCain has taken a page out of Kennedy's book of flippant answers (whether intentionally or not); is it just me, or do these answers sound alike?

Kennedy (when asked how he became a war hero):  "It was involuntary.  They sank my boat."

McCain (variations of this comment abound):  "Not too many pilots can successfully intercept an enemy surface-to-air missile with their own plane!"

LBJ's military service

LBJ's military service sounds a lot like Kerry light. LBJ was awarded a Silver Star (3rd highest military award) for a single mission that even today is said to be full of false stories.

Even so, JFK and LBJ served our country. What have Obama and Biden done?

Who needs military service?

What have Obama and Biden done?

Obama was a community organizer, providing essential human services to the poor, the old and all those other people the GOP wants to kick out into the snow.  Or murder through global warming.

You need to read

"Means of Ascent" which tells the true story of how LBJ got into politics and how he spent WWII on the left coast. His story is BS from start to finish. He had the nickname "Bull" in college and it wasn't because of his size. He wasn't going to go into the service during WWII but Sec. Forrestall told him if he expected to have a career in politics after the war, he had better get his a** into some branch of service. He was a junior Congressman when War broke out. Spent most of the War going to parties. Great read about LBJ and politics in general. Authors name escapes me right now.

So what they're going to

So what they're going to try to do is make you scared of me," Obama said. "You know, he's not patriotic enough, he's got a funny name, you know, he doesn't look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills."

Obama must have scared himself because he went out and got himself a guy who does fit all those qualifications.

What was Biden's price?

I saw an old clip of Biden saying he didn't want the job.  One wonders what kind of demands ol' Hair Club Joe made to play along with St. Barry of Conceit.

When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.

Gravitas

He must be asking for a lot from Obama considering all the Gravitas that Biden brings to the table.
