Is it essential for an extreme liberal to be a paranoid conspiracy theorist?
Whether it's American involvement in taking down the World Trade Center, or war for oil, these folks can't swing a dead cat without hitting some nefarious cabal involving Republicans.
The newest one, floated by Jane Hamsher of Firedoglake fame, is that if Joe Lieberman is John McCain's running mate, and they win only to have the aged McCain die in office, President Lieberman would round up all the bloggers that supported Ned Lamont's senatorial campaign in 2006 and send them to Gitmo.
I kid you not:
I have an elaborate nightmare where Joe Lieberman gets the VP nod, McCain wins, then dies -- and we're looking at a President Lieberman. At which point I and a host of others bloggers who supported Ned Lamont wind up in Guantanamo Bay. [...]
I sure hope this is just my dark thoughts getting the best of me.
Because I do not look good in orange.
Granted, Jane's tongue might be firmly planted in her cheek. However, this is a woman with so much hatred for Lieberman that she actually posted the following picture at her website in August 2006:
Now THAT's tolerance for you.

She called it an "elaborate nightmare." She may or may not intend that to be taken literally.
One thing I know for sure, I personally have an elaborate nightmare, it's my Friday evening commute home and it is entirely too real.
Not essential, but very helpful

No, it's not essential, but it is very helpful in order to feel welcome amongst thier peers.
Too bad for her that she can't even get us fascist dictators right and fails to realize where we detain the undesirables in our fascist society. They are NOT sent to Gitmo, that's reserved for foreigners. Domestic dissenters are sent to the nearest WalMart Detention Center, Inc.

Noel, how did you read that
August 20, 2008 - 18:43 ET by TheGingermanNoel, how did you read that as Jane forwarding a conspiracy theory?
It's blatantly facetious. What gives?
Did you even read her post?
August 20, 2008 - 19:56 ET by CobraMan"Noel, how did you read that as Jane forwarding a conspiracy theory?"
That's not a outrageous, or completely incorrect, conclusion to draw based on her entire post.
Look at the pertinent paragraph in detail, you should be able to see why it's easy to infer that she's espousing a conspiracy theory.
"Obviously, I have an elaborate nightmare where Joe Lieberman gets the VP nod, McCain wins, then dies -- and we're looking at a President Lieberman. At which point I and a host of others bloggers who supported Ned Lamont wind up in Guantanamo Bay."
"Obviously," her nightmare begins and ends with Lieberman gaining the Presidency, hence the period at the end of the sentence.
Her conspiracy theory starts with "At which point", continues through "I and a host of others bloggers who supported Ned Lamont" and ends with "wind up in
Guantanamo Bay."
She then starts the next paragraph with "Now I may just be engaging in extraordinary cynicism here. But over the years..."
Tell me, Gingerman, does this sound facetious to you?
didn't you know Cobra?
August 20, 2008 - 20:00 ET by candanceIt's okay for liberals to attach elaborate interpretations to someone's quote, but it's not okay for conservies to report actual quotes that make someone look bad.

True Candance, I stand
August 20, 2008 - 20:36 ET by TheGingermanTrue Candance, I stand corrected. Why would Noel have left that out from his article? It lends a lot more creedence to his article.
well
August 20, 2008 - 20:47 ET by candanceI can't speak for Noel, but as I see it, it isn't always convenient for him to transcribe entire portions when the money quote gets the point across.
Personally, I fail to see why the addition of that word makes the quote somehow more convincing.
Fair Use
August 21, 2008 - 01:22 ET by CobraMan"Why would Noel have left that out from his article?"
There's this thing called Fair Use. There's this other thing called plagiarism. Fair Use means you can use PART of someone else's work, but not all of it. If you use all of it, that's considered plagiarism. Noel gets to pick what portions he will use and what portions he will ignore. The choice is his, and his alone.
BTW, you really SHOULD click on the link that's normally supplied with each article that's posted here. That way you can read the entire cited piece for yourself.
Reading Comprehension is you friend
August 21, 2008 - 01:55 ET by CobraManNot only did you miss the link to the cited post in Noel‘s article, you also failed to understand the subject line of my comment, which asked "Did you even read her post?" You also failed to understand the meaning of "her entire post" in the body of my comment.
Let me ask you, what part of the two separate references to "her" did you not understand? Was it the h, the e, or the r?

Do You Know What This Is?
August 21, 2008 - 09:56 ET by Wildcatter1980What we see from these netroots/nutroots/left-wingnuts are constant examples of a lack of self-discipline and self-control not to mention the lack of decency and common courtesy. These "folks" have never been taught to "think before the speak" or in these cases type!
Instead of actually thinking about what they are about to say or type, they just go ahead and do it. Afterwards, when clearer-thinking people would regret what they just said or typed, these "folks" would rather attack anyone who dares to point out the foolishness or stupidity of what they just said or typed than admit that they should not have said or typed it in the first place.
Ned Lamont supporters to Gitmo
August 21, 2008 - 13:21 ET by AvitarWe here in Connecticut work very hard to inspire that degree of paranoia in nutty Ned's supporters. We are trying to get them to move out of state to reduce the mental health bills. Preferably, they will move to Albania.
