Plame Lawsuit Against Cheney Et Al Dismissed, Will Media Care?

Photo of Noel Sheppard.

Valerie Plame was dealt another setback Tuesday when a U.S. court of appeals upheld a federal judge's decision to dismiss her lawsuit against members of the Bush administration.

Given the media's fascination with this former CIA operative who has claimed for years she was illegally outed by the White House for political reasons, it will be interesting to see just how much attention this ruling gets in the next 48 hours.

As reported by Reuters:

A U.S. appeals court on Tuesday dismissed former CIA analyst Valerie Plame's lawsuit against Vice President Dick Cheney and several former Bush administration officials for disclosing her identity to the public. [...]

Plame and [husband Joe] Wilson sought money damages from Cheney, Libby, former White House aide Karl Rove and former State Department official Richard Armitage for violating their constitutional free speech, due process and privacy rights.

But a three-judge panel of the appeals court upheld a federal judge's ruling that dismissed the couple's lawsuit.

The court ruled Cheney and the others were acting within their official capacity when they revealed Plame's identity to reporters.

It goes without saying that if the court ruled in her favor, this would have been prominently covered by every news agency including the broadcast network evening programs.

Somehow it seems doubtful this dismissal will be so aggressively reported. I wonder why.

I know why...

It doesn't fit the template!!

Aw hell, the news of the day in the libs mind is that the US can't say a thing to Russia about Georgia because of our 'immoral' war against Iraq.

But that ol' donkey still has some legs - I do still see some references to 'Abu Ghraib' in the news though!

Has it ever been proven that anyone other than Armitage leaked this not-so-covert agent's name to anybody?

From what I have read, it appears about the only people in the DC area who did not know who she was and who she worked for, were the rocket scientists at the Washington Post.

Or did I miss something?

We are not going to save this country by being polite to those who are working tirelessly (and succeeding right handily) at destroying it.

I don't believe so.

All I can remember, as far as other people are concerned, is that they confirmed that the information was correct, but no one that I've heard has ever claimed that this name was leaked to them.  Once the name was printed, in the paper, what was left.  Bob Novak let the name out first and has said where he got his information, after which time, it makes little difference who said what.  The only conviction, Libby.  I expect to see a pardon, by Bush, to complete his sweep of making the Democrats apoplectic for all 8 years of his tenure in the White House.   LOL

Well so far CNN has been

Well so far CNN has been quiet about this since I have been listening for a couple of hours...

I heard this announced on some radio news break show...and laughed out loud, especially when the news reader said they may be planning to take it to a higher level...

Of course if the decision was the other way around this would be breaking news, with glee by the majority of talking heads...

Guess it will be interesting to hear what msnbc shows this evening about this all....especially Matthews since he was so danged invested in all of this...I always thought he was going to have a nervous break-down when just about everything went the opposite way of his loud-mouthed spittle-spewed predictions.

I won't get to catch the shows until much later when they rerun if I even do, so I will depend on NBs o fill me in....

Of course if the decision was the other way around this would be breaking news, with glee by the majority of talking heads...

Isn't it ironic, it used to be that "Dog bites man" was not considered news.

Impunitas semper ad deteriora invitat.

where is 'loser pays'?

If you want to stop this lawsuit lottery mentality, you have to reinstitute the 'lose pays' rule. This silly cow knows she had no case; she was just shopping the courts and maybe looking for a payoff from the other side to cut off the lawyering.

I can only hope they go bankrupt with this, but I'll bet there's funny money behind their efforts. Do I smell Soros in here somewhere?

Of course...

There's no ox to be gored with this decision. It's a whimper, not a bang. There may be mention of it, but no more than an in passing comment, since it isn't sexy or sensational.

I just can't believe that Plame, et al, STILL believe that everyone did it just to get back at them for his report. Much ado about nothing. If this wouldn't have been trumpeted in the news, who knows, she might have regained her "secret agent" status - if she had actually held one at the time.

Well, the government of Niger didn't break down and make a sobbing confession when Joe Wilson came to investigate. So clearly, it didn't come from Niger ...

P atrick Fitzgerald should have been investigated for using government funds for a partisan witch hunt after being made aware of the facts. He got the confession from Armitage early on in his original investigation.

Valerie Plame's blame game...

Plame came to play the blame game but this dame's fame and name results were just the same and as lame since the first time they came.

Val

Goodbye forever loser.

I always wondered how you could "out" someone that...

Valerie went to work everyday and walked into the CIA HQ building...so I always wondered how you could "out" someone in the CIA when you could 'tail' them going into the Building most days.? ?

Someone named Gonzales might be interested in more Democratic "Justice" that gets "reversed".

The Plame case was at the Peak of the Bush Derangement Syndrome, and it was all about the Media manipulating the lack of Facts.

Valerie & Joe: GO HOME!!!

I hope that this is the end to one of the biggest non-stories in the past eight years!  I heard early on that her husband was telling people about her CIA job when they were DATING!  This was one of the biggest non-secrets in Washington!  Much ado about nothing...

But I have also been angry with Bob Novak for not revealing that his source was Richard Armitage (or at least saying publicly that it was NOT someone in the Bush administration) and killing this whole stupid farce from the beginning.  Poor Scooter Libby...

M/M Wilson

This couple has no other claim to the fame they have come to enjoy, and therefore, they will continue to play to ever smaller audiences -- from appearances before Congress to appearing ultimately at small elementary school assemblies -- until they die and their obits tell of the totally insignificant roles they played in history.
