The bad reviews for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's abysmal performance on Sunday's "This Week" continue to pour in.
Jumping on the "Is She Really This Divorced From Reality" bandwagon was the Chicago Tribune's Frank James.
Writing at the Trib's "Swamp" blog, James lambasted Pelosi early and often (emphasis added):
It was hard to not get twisted up in pretzel knots listening to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whose explanation on "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" about why she hasn't allowed a vote on Republican energy legislation that would ease restrictions on offshore drilling was, to be polite, confusing.
It may have left some in the audience feeling bewildered as a seabird fouled by an oil spill.
Pelosi, a California Democrat, accused Republicans of being monomaniacal on the drilling issue and of suggesting to voters that drilling would immediately lower gas prices. She wasn't going to play along with something that would mislead voters, she asserted.
Here's the problem with that. Anyone who has listened to the debate has heard House Republicans say they are willing to consider a range of options from the use of renewable energy sources to new alternative fuels to conservation so long as they can get a vote on off-shore drilling. [...]
But then, she seemed to later suggest that she would indeed be a party to that, if only House Republicans are smart enough to push the right parliamentary buttons. [...]
So she will allow the American people to be misled, in her view, by Republican legislation that she says only offers the illusion of addressing high gas prices, so long as Republicans are smart enough to figure out how to get their legislation to the floor? That doesn't make a lot of sense, but that's what she appeared to say.
Imagine that. Is it possible that this energy issue is so strong that it's forcing folks in the media to recognize just how separated from reality the Democrats and their leadership are on this matter?
And, if that's the case, why? Is it because they themselves are angered by the rising prices at the pump, or that they recognize this issue is gaining so much traction that it could have a huge impact on the upcoming elections?
After all, the media have been working tirelessly since Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans almost three years ago to create the perfect storm for Democrats to take over Congress and the White House. Is it possible they see the left-wing intransigence concerning drilling -- with energy prices at current levels as well as the public's overwhelming support for additional drilling -- as undermining all their efforts the past 36 months to take over the legislative and executive branches of our government?
If so, how will this play out with Election Day now exactly three months away?
Stay tuned.

Starting tomorrow, I plan to drill for oil in my own backyard. I have a couple of acres that I haven't searched yet. And how hard could it be. I heard one time this hillbilly was shootin' at some game and he struck oil.
I think I will go down to the rental place in town and get either a drilling rig or one of those wood splittin' machines that I need to get anyways. After splitting my wood for the winter, I figure I could jerryrig it to start pokin' the ground.

Recalling a friends trip to the Capitol rotunda...
August 5, 2008 - 13:56 ET by Wilbur747A friend of mine told me about his trip to the Capitol about a year ago. He said his tour group encountered a couple of senators walking to and from their offices. They smiled and chatted briefly, some signing autographs, and moved on.
Nancy also stopped and chatted briefly with the crowd and asked if they had any questions. I think she expected questions like "How high is the Rotunda ceiling?" and wasn't prepared for my buddy's question.
He asked her why Democrats only give credence to the scientists that were associated with the UN IPCC on AGW when making policy, yet blow off the other credible scientists who question man's impact on GW and call them "deniars", instead of taking their expertise into account.
He said her answer started off somewhat intelligently (obviously touting the Dem side) but then wandered way, way off the subject, to the point he (having a MS in Chem Engineering) became confused as to what her point was and where she was going with the answer.
He said she then started pointing fingers saying things like "...the current administraions' failures..." and her arguements had nothing to do with the original question.
What scared me, is when he told me that she talked about how we, as Americans, must do our part to stop AGW and it's Congress' job to enact laws to ensure we put the earth first. (I'm paraprashing here, but it sounds like forced compliance to me).
When he told her that people don't like being told what type of light bulb they must buy for their homes, she said she's late for a meeting and left.

August 5, 2008 - 14:37 ET by Wilbur747about 15 or so years ago, and we met McCain, and Trent Lott and (and one Dem whose name escapes me). I remember a gentleman in the crowd asking the kind of question the MSM might ask today of a candidate, and both McCain and Lott answered it directly. No fluff, no BS, no confusion. Their answer might not have answered the man's political concerns, but I do remember the answer was quick, to the point and concise.
Not only that, they didn't run away when they were hit with hard questions. And none were about how high the Rotunda ceiling was.
While not a real big fan of McCain, at least he'll answer the question without confusing people.
One last thing...if you look at her eyes when she talks, you wonder if her head will explode!

It will be as though the issue never existed. It's the variation on an old addage in play, "you can't fool all the people all the time, you have to fool the rest of the people another time."
The problem for the Dems is a lot of money (grants and subsidies) could have been made and handed out to contributors with the alternative energy scam. AIDS and HIV have pretty much played out. The embryonic stem cell scam fell down (because of Bush) so billions in grants couldn't be steered in that direction. What's the next grant and subsidy scam coming down the pike?
Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, starving the poor one gallon of ethanol at a time. Fill your tank with E85 and cull a village.

August 5, 2008 - 16:18 ET by Mike SWhat is wrong with drilling?
1. Additional drilling WILL lower gas prices. How much and when depends on how much additional oil we can bring to the market and when we get started. Neither unknown is a reason NOT to drill.
2. Every additional barrel we can produce in the US improves our balance of trade; we won't be shipping those dollars overseas to other countries, including hostile countries.
3. Additional US drilling creates additional US jobs.
4. We have to be the "cleanest" of all oil producing countries. Oil that is produced under the strict US environmental regulations is safer for the world environment than oil produced in other countries.
5. Alternative sources of energy should be explored as quickly as possible. But even when we do develop efficient alternatives, it will take many, many years to retrofit or replace all the cars, homes, factories, etc. that use existing technologies with coal, oil and gas. Let's find and use as much American oil as we can to bridge until that future time when we have alternative sources and we have the vehicles and other infrastructure to use those alternatives.

August 5, 2008 - 16:30 ET by Cape Conservativebest of all, perhaps America could regain its position as the LEADER of the world!
I'm tired of everyone knocking us and being "embarrassed" by our country! We need to return manufacturing jobs to America so that we could, if needed, build a bomber a day as we did in WWII. I want to be able to purchase Made in America merchandise once again - with AMERICAN quality! I want the Can-Do America to return to the glory it deserves. I am sick of the politically correct telling the rest of us what we can or cannot say, do, or think!
Americans are the best! Our spirit is such that Nancy Pelosi or Barack Obama are simply not enough to bury us, try as they may!
Isn't it funny...
August 5, 2008 - 16:40 ET by unkeeafEvery Republican president since Eisenhower has been portrayed a stupid or lawless in the eyes of our esteemed media. Here's the list:
Eisenhower - Dumb
Nixon - Crook
Reagan - Slow
HW Bush - Dimwitted
W - Moronic
During that same time, the Democrat president's have all been deemed highly intelligent or brilliant.
What I find hard to fathom, is how they can continue to overlook (even through their own bias) the abject stupidity of Nancy Pelosi? If there has ever been a bigger dumbass reach such lofty heights in our government, I'd love to see the proof.
She is the picture of stupidity - literally.
