The battle between John McCain and the New York Times is getting very interesting.
According to the Associated Press, the McCain campaign has struck back at two Times editorials this week highly critical of the Arizona senator.
In fact, a campaign spokesman even went so far as to liken the editors of the Times to a blogger "sitting at home in his mother's basement and ranting into the ether between games of Dungeons & Dragons."
Yummy, but there's more (emphasis added):
"If the shareholders of The New York Times ever wonder why the paper's ad revenue is plummeting and its share price tanking, they need look no further than the hysterical reaction of the paper's editors to any slight, real or imagined, against their preferred candidate," said McCain campaign spokesman Michael Goldfarb.
Goldfarb compared the editors to a blogger "sitting at home in his mother's basement and ranting into the ether between games of Dungeons & Dragons."
Now THAT's entertainment.

August 4, 2008 - 17:44 ET by SchnikeysObviously, if McCain were talking about all bloggers, he would have just said "bloggers" or "all bloggers."
But in this scenario, he specified that the NYT editors were like the type of bloggers who live in their mothers' basements. Big difference. :-) And a very skillful use of words from someone who is otherwise an ineffective GOP presidential candidate.

August 2, 2008 - 22:06 ET by R D HelmHe, as well as his handlers, have proven, yet again, that they do not have what it takes to really go after Obama, who might just be the most inept dem since Michael Dukakis. Perhaps even more so.
Ronald Reagan would be 30 points ahead at this point poll-wise, as Obama's suit is emtier than even McCain's.
But not by much. :-O

The value of humor
August 2, 2008 - 21:58 ET by KC MulvilleThe interesting thing is that McCain is using humor and ridicule instead of righteous outrage. This is a page right from the Art of War: know your terrain and use every weapon to your advantage. In the media terrain, humor is an effective weapon. By using humor, McCain emphasizes his opponent's weakness and neutralizes attacks against him.
He can get away with it because no one can accuse McCain of being frivolous, and he's always shown a sense of humor. True, if humor is his only weapon, he'll fail. McCain has to complement the humor with serious policy attacks. We're hoping another shoe will fall. But some of the people he can't attract through "charisma," he might attract through humor.
The weakness of true believers is that they take themselves too seriously. If you can puncture that narrowness, it dissolves the intensity. The polls already show that the passion for Obama is diminishing, fairly rapidly. I think McCain's use of humor can be an effective weapon.

August 3, 2008 - 00:28 ET by maggieqpublicGoldfarb’s response to the NYT reads like a Newsbusters piece. Goldfarb isn’t saying much about Obama, but he is debunking Liberal Media Bias in a loud clear voice. The McCain campaign is making Liberal Media Bias a campaign issue… wonderful. McCain could go all the way to election day mixing policy ads with bits of the MSM pundits at their bootlicking best. (This would make me happier if I had more appreaciation for McCain as a Presidential candidate.)

STOP GLOBAL WARMING: End the Print Edition of the Times
August 3, 2008 - 07:43 ET by allanfI don't know why you guys at Newsbusters don't want to sign onto a campaign to end the print edition of the New York Times on environmental grounds. The Sunday Edition alone costs 70,000 trees.
Left wing orgainizations are targeting 'water bottles' as an evil. They get willing apparatchiks in the media to highlight the dangers of water bottles. Why not hit the Times with some of their own left wing nonsense. End the Print Edition, save the Trees.
The Times business practices should match its lofty editorial policy.
