McCain Campaign: NYT Editors Like Blogger In Mom's Basement

Photo of Noel Sheppard.

The battle between John McCain and the New York Times is getting very interesting.

According to the Associated Press, the McCain campaign has struck back at two Times editorials this week highly critical of the Arizona senator.

In fact, a campaign spokesman even went so far as to liken the editors of the Times to a blogger "sitting at home in his mother's basement and ranting into the ether between games of Dungeons & Dragons."

Yummy, but there's more (emphasis added):

"If the shareholders of The New York Times ever wonder why the paper's ad revenue is plummeting and its share price tanking, they need look no further than the hysterical reaction of the paper's editors to any slight, real or imagined, against their preferred candidate," said McCain campaign spokesman Michael Goldfarb.

Goldfarb compared the editors to a blogger "sitting at home in his mother's basement and ranting into the ether between games of Dungeons & Dragons."

Now THAT's entertainment.

The NYT is a Joke...

Excellent dig by Mr. Goldfarb.  There are respectable voices on the left that provide thoughtful commentary.  The NYT is not one of them.  Maybe their assets will be purchased by News Corp.!

Interesting

After McCain gets to the White House, he should confiscate these newspapers (Just like we seize the assets of other criminals) and turn all these rags into toilet paper factories.

What a morale booster for the troops. :<)

Flashking, remember that McPain had a pretty cozy relationship

with the NYT and MSM while he was the "maverick" going against conservatives.  Now as the Republican (not conservative) candidate, they predictably turn their death squads on him.  Who didn't see that coming?  I can't think of a better person to suffer it too.  Well, I did enjoy Hitlery getting thrown to the curb by the MSM in favor of Obama.

Specification

Obviously, if McCain were talking about all bloggers, he would have just said "bloggers" or "all bloggers."

But in this scenario, he specified that the NYT editors were like the type of bloggers who live in their mothers' basements. Big difference. :-) And a very skillful use of words from someone who is otherwise an ineffective GOP presidential candidate.

"It could be the answer to our age-old, philosophical question, 'Why are we here?' PLASTIC!"

So McCain finally "gets it." Or does he?

What a loser.

We are not going to save this country by being polite to those who are working tirelessly (and succeeding right handily) at destroying it.

No, McCain doesn't get it

except he is a Democrat and a politician.  He will do or say whatever he has to for a vote.  He is no friend to conservatives and has been a friend to the left.  What he gets isn't what he needs to get.

Jeff Lebowski

jeff, McCain doesn't have the stones to win this thing.

He, as well as his handlers, have proven, yet again, that they do not have what it takes to really go after Obama, who might just be the most inept dem since Michael Dukakis. Perhaps even more so.

Ronald Reagan would be 30 points ahead at this point poll-wise, as Obama's suit is emtier than even McCain's.

But not by much.  :-O

McCain needs to unleash Romney on Obama

Pick him as VP and let him start attacking Obama, then watch as Obama goes down in flames. He had by far the most effective ad campaign of the primaries.

The value of humor

The interesting thing is that McCain is using humor and ridicule instead of righteous outrage. This is a page right from the Art of War: know your terrain and use every weapon to your advantage. In the media terrain, humor is an effective weapon. By using humor, McCain emphasizes his opponent's weakness and neutralizes attacks against him.

  • Obama is striving to be taken seriously, and therefore the counter-attack is to laugh at him.
  • At the same time, he's neutralizing the image being portrayed against him. McCain is branded as an angry old man, and the counter-attack also happens to be to show humor.

He can get away with it because no one can accuse McCain of being frivolous, and he's always shown a sense of humor. True, if humor is his only weapon, he'll fail. McCain has to complement the humor with serious policy attacks. We're hoping another shoe will fall. But some of the people he can't attract through "charisma," he might attract through humor.

The weakness of true believers is that they take themselves too seriously. If you can puncture that narrowness, it dissolves the intensity. The polls already show that the passion for Obama is diminishing, fairly rapidly. I think McCain's use of humor can be an effective weapon.

So true, gc

But I just kind of had to resurrect the old "Hello Dolly....baaaaah, baaah" thing (from about two years ago, actually)....plus my standard line about trollishness.

These new trolls are even dumber than the old ones, if that could be possible.  Serially...this one equates Irish to a KILT.  Idjit.

Goldfarb’s response to the

Goldfarb’s response to the NYT reads like a Newsbusters piece. Goldfarb isn’t saying much about Obama, but he is debunking Liberal Media Bias in a loud clear voice. The McCain campaign is making Liberal Media Bias a campaign issue… wonderful. McCain could go all the way to election day mixing policy ads with bits of the MSM pundits at their bootlicking best. (This would make me happier if I had more appreaciation for McCain as a Presidential candidate.)

obama's mouthpiece

way to go goldfarb, I have had it with the so called grey lady, has no ethics, no integrity, they don't care anymore if everyone in the US know they work for egobama, no wonder they are gradually losing readers, and stocks are going down, people are sick of their blatant bias, what they did to MCCAIN was disgusting and this after they endorsed him and from a man that use to work for clinton, they are going downnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

Shareholders

Those shareholders aren't smart enough to realize they can sell now and cut their losses.

They're going down with the ship waiting for the luau in the dining room.

Well that didn't take long

I bet McAMNESTY thought all along, the media was his friend. Shows what hubris does to your thinking.

"McCain is still, I think,

"McCain is still, I think, upset about the Op-Ed not being printed," said Mike Paul, a former aide to New York Republicans who is now a consultant.

Paul, the consultant, said he thinks the McCain campaign's criticisms of the paper may look good to some but won't work in the long run.

"You might get that base, but you won't win the election," he said. "It goes back to the old saying, 'Don't throw rocks at people who own ink barrels' ... and people have gotten sick and tired of the excuse that all media is liberal."

This is where you wonder do these people actually have a clue? How are NY Republicans doing there Paul?

Get a clue man.

Saying that yawner 'Don't throw rocks at people who own ink barrels' may have been sage advice even 40 years ago, when there was NO alternative.

But in 2008. Please. Marking your paper as "can do better"

Now it won't "win him the election" on its own, that's nuts, but who's claiming it will?

There is NO downside for McCain attacking the Slimes. NONE. ZIP. NADA.

Vote 4 change. Vote 4 anything. See Jack & Mr Shy's first campaign ad for the ONLY viable 3rd party candidate.

STOP GLOBAL WARMING: End the Print Edition of the Times

I don't know why you guys at Newsbusters don't want to sign onto a campaign to end the print edition of the New York Times on environmental grounds. The Sunday Edition alone costs 70,000 trees.

Left wing orgainizations are targeting 'water bottles' as an evil. They get willing apparatchiks in the media to highlight the dangers of water bottles. Why not hit the Times with some of their own left wing nonsense. End the Print Edition, save the Trees.

The Times business practices should match its lofty editorial policy.
