The good folks at MSNBC's "Hardball" might be pointing fingers at presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Barack Obama for playing the race card with his response to a new ad by the McCain campaign, but the editorial board of the New York Times ain't buyin' it!
Forgive the obvious pun, but color me -- amongst other things! -- unsurprised.
In a posting at the Times' blog "The Board" published moments ago, representatives of the Gray Lady predictably came to the junior senator's defense (emphasis added, h/t Hot Air):
The presumptive Republican nominee has embarked on a bare-knuckled barrage of negative advertising aimed at belittling Mr. Obama. The most recent ad compares the presumptive Democratic nominee for president to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton — suggesting to voters that he’s nothing more than a bubble-headed, publicity-seeking celebrity.
The ad gave us an uneasy feeling that the McCain campaign was starting up the same sort of racially tinged attack on Mr. Obama that Republican operatives, some of whom work for Mr. McCain now, ran against Harold Ford, a black candidate for Senate in Tennessee in 2006. That assault, too, began with videos juxtaposing Mr. Ford with young, white women. [...]
It’s ugly stuff. How about we leave Britney, Paris, and O.J. out of this — and have a presidential campaign?
I guess the Times has thrown down the gauntlet: better not come after our guy, or we'll accuse you of racism.
Forgive the obvious pun, but you should once again color me -- amongst other things! -- unsurprised.

Speaking of black pots and kettles - Clarence Thomas, Michael Steele, Condi, Rod Paige, etc, etc.
BTW - How did OJ get dragged into this?
They have to act guilt-ridden or a minority will take their job

Wow. What a shocker!
July 31, 2008 - 19:58 ET by motherbeltI guess the Obama talking points have been delivered.
Josh Marshall is making the same "white women" argument:
What's more, as everyone will acknowledge after the campaign, the
McCain campaign is now pushing the caricature of Obama as a [sic] uppity
young black man whose presumptuousness is displayed not only in taking
on airs above his station but also in a taste for young white women. (emphasis added)
I was in duct tape territory with this earlier, plus the Obama prediction that Republicans will try to frighten voters by saying he "doesn't look like" the other Presidents...adn he said it in different speeches in different places. When Republicans have not said a thing about his race. The only one bringing up his race is Obama himself!
And now they have apparently decided that "arrogant" is a code word for "uppity" which makes calling him arrogant a racist attack too.
Jeez! Is no one allowed to say ANYTHING about this guy?
It's a good thing I duct-taped my head earlier today!!
Time for reinforcement!!

Hot air fills balloons, not the Oval Office
July 31, 2008 - 20:18 ET by wdhorningI would say he does not "look like" presidential material, not because of the color of his skin, but because of his lack of sufficient experience and knowledge for the job.
I would gladly vote for Colin Powell or Condi Rice either ran, and the have leadership qualities that make Obama look like he is still in Kindergarten.
So this is a lot of hot air over the color of his skin and the pack of lies that anyone in the Republican party is playing any kind of race card.
That's all they have now.

It's not as if they or the Obama campaign could respond with a legitimate rebuttal to refute the fact that Obama is an empty suit.
What could they say?
"I know you are but what am I"?
The reason that the ad is causing such a stir is because there is a lot of truth to it.
When Obama was in Germany he was talking as if he was already President and speaking for the American people.
If that wasn't bad enough his little "love me rally" in Germany was a little too much even for his sycophants in the press.
He is a celebrity and not a leader.
Take away his teleprompter and he falls flat on his face.

McCain for Preznint.
NYT denies that blacks are really more racist
July 31, 2008 - 20:09 ET by wdhorningA recent poll showed that blacks will vote for Obama by 89%, but only
2% for McCain, with the other 9% undecided or voting for an
independent. This shows that the real issues are unimportant, but race
is to blacks. White votes for McCain and for Obama were nearly even in
the same poll, so white voters vote much more on the issues, but blacks
because of racial issues. It also shows you that whites may actually be
less racist than blacks.
Now, to be fair, I most certainly appreciate the black person's
perspective that Obama as president would be a fulfillment of their
aspirations, an historical event, and overall a triumph. But that still
means race is the issue, and not the really important issues for all of
the country.
