Penn & Teller: Al Gore is an EPA -- 'Egregiously Pushy A**hole'

Photo of Noel Sheppard.

I bet you thought EPA stands for Environmental Protection Agency.

Not according to the comedy team Penn & Teller, who during Thursday's "Being Green" installment of their hit television series on Showtime, tore Nobel Laureate Al Gore apart while referring to him as an "Egregiously Pushy A**hole."

To be frank, that's just one marvelous snippet from Thursday's evisceration of all things related to climate change hysteria. Here are a few more (video available here, h/t NBer PopTech, vulgarity alert):

PENN JILLETTE: Three decades ago, pretty much everybody thought we had f***ed up the earth with careless and selfish fossil fuel emissions. We were heading into an Ice Age. Today, the same fossil fuel emissions are causing global warming. Hey, no worries. You may be a carbon sinner, but now you can buy yourself a clean, green conscience for cash. It's a new craze based on eco-guilt, and it's....bullshit!

Every day, TV, newspapers, and the Internet bombard us with a message that we're destroying the earth. Ice caps are melting, rivers are dying, polar bears are drowning, and trees are doing something. We f***ed up the environment beyond repair, and now we must pay the piper. It's no wonder so many people are suffering from green guilt. [...]

But if you want to do a show about the environment, you gotta start with that guy (Gore pictured on screen). It's an EPA thing. Not Environmental Protection Agency, Egregiously Pushy Asshole. You know who we're talking about.

Yes, we do. Watch the whole thing here. You won't be disappointed.

And, be sure NOT to miss the segment that COMPLETELY debunks the carbon credit scheme (about halfway in).

Environmentalists

Why is all the environmentalists "solutions" involve higher taxes and higher costs?

allanf because global warmists don't care about the environment

the goal of global warming is to destroy the american economic superpower, it has not done one thing to actually protect anything in the environment, it's all done to hamstring capitalism.

B.I.N.G.O

this is goal number one of the new marxists.

Blasphemy!

Such blasphemy, speaking ill of the ministry of the Reverend Algore and the Church of AGW.

What you won't hear from that off-the-deep-end minister is how this year's Arctic ice melt is not living up to predictions {next year's should be even more disappointing to the fanatics} or how Anchorage is on track to having its coldest summer on record.

These inconvenient truths just keep on cropping up {but not from the MSM's perspective}. And when there's record cold and record snows this winter, the stories will be all about how the climate has changed so much and it's still mankind's fault.

and why shouldn't i believe these graphs, they definately seem more logical and reasonable than the hockey stick ones big al likes to show and have turned out to be untrue.

oh no this chart explains that is the same amount of polar ice at the north pole since they first starterd measuring it 28 years ago. so the north pole essentially lost no ice, so what about the south pole, we have to have lost some south pole ice right, eeeeehhhhh no. oooops this doesn't look good for the global warmists, the south pole has gained 21%, it gained 35% since 1980. this isn't good for the anti capitalist socialist global warmist.

I believe that his defeat for President sent him off the deep end. The idea that he received the Nobel Prize for all of his nonsense and Irena Sendler did not win is is disgusting.

This isn't mindless ranting

Gore's defeat didn't send him off the deep end.  This has always been a money-making venture for him.  When gas went to $4/gal the US population began waking up and demanding real energy solutions.  Gore is now a step behind the times and he's trying to cover his rather large backside and all of the investments he's made.  He'll be richer than Dr. Evil if he succeeds.

That Penn guy drives me nuts

He reminds me of Olbermann, a loudmouth that just won't shut up!  But he is right on the Tennessee 2X4.  Amazing how Gore gets a pass on being the main eco evangelist while making millions on this supposed global warming.  Gore is the Benny Hinn of environmentalism!

i mentioned penn & tellers carbon credits scam a few days ago

everyone knows how self rightious and philanthropistic al gore is when it comes to paying carbon credits. well just imagine this, imagine you take money out of your checking account and transfer it into your savings account and tell everyone you paid your bills, well that isn't too far away from what al gore does when he pays carbon credits. al gore owns the company he pays money into when he buys carbon credits to pay off his hypocrisy of using so much energy to manage his house. there are no stadards or oversights that regulate or monitor how carbon credit costs are tallied or regulate where the money goes to. by the way big al uses 17 times what the average person uses in their house each month, must be up late at night researching sightings of manbearpig.

Yeah, these are top notch guys alright!

Their comments on the Bible

http://www.youtube.c...

I have no respect for them at all

that's why i respect them

i can't respect anyone who trumps the bible over scientific fact every time. isn't that why god gave us a brain to use. i like to include a lil thought instead of blindly wandering into walls just because faith tells me to do so.

i hope the bible is true and there is an afterlife, but there is no scientific fact behind it, therefore it is a faith no different that all the others and can only be trusted in your own head.

i would hope god would expect me to have a slight bit of skepticism as a mental nature defense against any nut who tells me to do something to acheive eternal bliss. not like there are any others out there huh.

when it comes to politics and other bullshit, those guys have it down, unfortunately you have such a narrow parameter of acceptence and expect everyone to follow you in lockstep you can't pick that up. if you were following gods word you should be getting close to them and witnessing to them like a good follower instead of letting your bitter hatred ostrisized those who may need your help the most.

but you're a good lil christian.

We have another libertarian

We have another libertarian here, I believe. I'm skeptical about religion as well, and have no issue with these atheists attempting to debunk parts of a religion they don't believe in. The sum of things is that Penn and Teller's show is a stage for them to voice their own gripes. It's entertainment meant more to make you think than to completely convince you of their position. I don't agree with all the claims made on the show, but it's still entertaining and offers a different perspective.

Don't worry about it too much...

...their religion-bashing episodes are their worst ones.  Not so much due to content, but because their normally-solid reasoning goes south.

I am a libertarian, albeit also a Christian, and do not find the two necessarily incompatible with each other (I am a member of a church that has some rather deep roots in religious existentialism - read some of Kierkegaard's stuff if you want to see how religion and free will are not only not at cross-purposes, but are compatible).  Penn's free to have his viewpoint -- I just don't have to agree with it.

The episode was great, however.  They also had another one last season on the "energy crisis" that dovetails with this one quite nicely.

As we all know, the

As we all know, the environmental movement isn't about the environment. Its about the aquisition and keeping of power for socialists and communists. It's about the destruction of capitalism... even though capitalism is the only thing that has ever brought anyone out of poverty.

Oh for shame! Such language!

Oh for shame! Such language! What's wrong with these "Hollyweird" losers that they can't make a statement without swearing? Penn & Teller? More like Putz & Twerp...er.

b

b,

I know you're being facetious. However, didn't you find the volume of f-bombs to be not only excessive, but also a tad intrusive? Compare this 2008 video to what they did in 2003 on virtually the same subject -- but without the excessive vulgarity. I think the 2003 sketch was FAR superior. How 'bout you? ns

Yeah, it did get in the way a bit. I don't know if they know that they don't get paid per f-bomb. We get it! You can swear!

Seemed like gratuitous vulgarity, you know? Does it make the content funnier?

There's a definite line where rough language stops being entertaining and becomes distracting.

I LOVE "Mad Men"! What a show.

Mad Men

Didn't know the show existed until a couple of wees ago.

I taped the marathon and inished it this weekend.

I was shocked they noted Kennedy's purchase of Illinois.

I love the style of the show, and the characters are great.

Mad Men

When I first heard the concept, I thought it was an odd idea for a show, but it's really good.

I like it almost as much as Burn Notice.

Another great show! I think

Another great show! I think all my favs right now are on cable: Psych, The Closer, Mad Men, Burn Notice.

b

b,

Psych and Burn Notice? Never heard of them -- although I've seen Psych in the listings. Can you give my synopses? ns

Psych - 20-something son of

Psych - 20-something son of a retired cop -- who trained him to have a photographic memory -- solves crimes by pretending to be psychic. It's very goofball, funny, zippy lines.

Burn Notice - Almost noir show about a former spy who has been "burned", i.e. exposed and left to his own devices. So now he lives in Miami with a host of colorful characters including Bruce Campbell, and helps people in trouble, all while trying to figure out who burned him to begin with. Has good light moments along with the serious.

And you're right, you don't have to have cursing to have a great show. The networks have done it for years.

If I may add a note about

If I may add a note about Burn Notice,

one of the neat things about the show is the main character narrating with little tidbits about the best way to bribe someone, or best location to drive a vehicle though a wall, etc.

Burn Notice

So, Burn Notice is, in a sense, The A-Team for the 2000s?

Whoever casts a vote for Barack Obama is nothing more than a common thief.  Whoever fails to vote against him is nothing more than a moral coward.

I could be wrong, but I

I could be wrong, but I don't think so. Way more stylish, and Michael Westen is the true lead of the show, as opposed to the ensemble A-Team. Plus, it's more cloak and dagger, spy stuff as opposed to the military theme of the A-Team.

Sounds kind of like The

Sounds kind of like The Equalizer, though McCall left the agency on his own and still calls in favors from time to time. There are a few episodes where he gets tossed to the wind, which tend to lead to rather creative methods of dealing with the crooks.  Either way, Woodward was great. </derailing>

but then the lefties started showing their colors

The Equalizer and Hawaii 5-0 were both entertaining shows. Then... the writers started putting in political ads in the form of short soliloquies boosting leftist ideologies. The most consistent one of the day was "guns are evil." No matter what the scenario they worked in a "guns are evil" speech. Trite, when you consider the heros of the play are using them to help the victims and defeat the bad guys! Even more entertaining was Jack Lord getting arrested for illegal possession of..... Tah Dah! - a hand gun.

Personally, I saw The

Personally, I saw The Equalizer (granted, I've not seen the third or fourth seasons) as rather fair to guns. McCall uses them all the time, but his remorse over having to kill people to protect the innocent neither stops him from doing so nor demonizes the tools he uses.  He also has the same attitude when he uses something other than a gun (ballistic knife, anyone?).  Of course, that may have been changed as they played havoc with the cast in the seasons I've yet to see.

"Basic Cable"

I don't care much for Pysch, but when I see The Closer I always end up watching the rest of the episode.

Who would have thaought that the best shows on TV would be coming from "Basic Cable" these days?

CA and Balboa

CA and Balboa,

My wife taped the marathon last weekend -- never heard of the show -- and I'm astounded. What a marvelous program. Fabulous writing, acting, and directing.

And, B, the reason I brought it up was due to the lack of gratuitous vulgarity. It's nice to watch a serious cable drama without every word beginning with "F". ns

honestly i don't care about language noel

language has never offended me and i think the point was to attack the political motivations in the 2003 set as compared to the mindless loonies and their preacher in the 2008 version. they have always used offensive language and i could care less. i keep my text here polite and as clean as i can out of respect for those of you who run this site and have asked me to keep it clean. as for my own radio progran i don't and wont, but they hit on some tremendous facts that people who aren't informed by the msm on and i could care less if they toss in f bombsall over. i'm just not that offended. i think that clean language has no bearing on if you are a good person or not. i can name some people that i've never heard use profanity and it has no bearing on the quality of their character. i can name pleanty of religious folks who portrayed that squeaky clean image and they were revealed to be pure crap. so i trust someone who speaks freely to me anytime over someone who is putting on a cover to mask their true self.

Funny Swearing

Noel:

I'm with you on this.  I think of Robin Williams.  I always found him hilarious.  People recommended HBO's live on Broadway.  I found the swearing so gratuitous, it lost its affect.  Didn't enjoy him nearly as much as when he was on TV.  (Although, my wife was in stitches over one part.  If you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about.  Not for a good wholesome family site like this.)

I'm indifferent to swearing but I find if it is seldom but used in the "right" place, it is far more effective for emphasis.

Did you see the name of their show?

It's called "Bullsh-t" and airs on Showtime, and you're shocked by the bad language? Besides, in all fairness, some of the F-bombs in that segment were from the hate mail sent to the organization that reported how much energy Al Gore's house was using.

As Noel pointed out, I was

As Noel pointed out, I was being facetious.

Gillettes choice of

Gillettes choice of language aside, keep in mind this is "Showtime". Penn and Teller for the most part are known as magicians and entertainers, not pundits and I think language aside, it is refreshing to see these guys speaking truth to power against some leftist practices on a network not known for being a bastion of conservatism, even though I would consider these two more libertarian.

At any rate it's nice to see two recognizable celebrities getting an opposing viewpoint across on a major cable network other than FNC for a change.

"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious. "

                   - Ben Kenobi on  Liberals, and the MSM.

" The Cake is a lie."

Foul language

Actually, they drop the F-Bomb quite a bit to actually make a point.  Keeping in mind that they are Libertarian, I'll let you surmise what that point may be.

Libertarian in respect

Libertarian in respect to I wasn't trying to draw a conclusion as to "Showtime" or "Penn & Teller" being conservative, I wasn't defending their use of vulgar language. NB links to a few sites on their Blogroll that use questionable language and sometimes crude material on a regular basis, your point?

Once again, language aside, I was simply pointing out that it was refreshing to see an opposing viewpoint, that goes against the screed of the MSM and the left for a change on a major cable channel.

"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious. "

Laughter and Idiots

One of the lessons I have learned in life is that if people are laughing at you, first shut up and second reassess your position or predicament. I can't recall the occasion but I do recall being educated in such a manor, once. Al Gore apparently has yet to either become aware that people are laughing at him or to learn that basic tenet. There is another alternative: That the big dumb ox is aware of the laughter, but is so stupid and full of his own sh*t that he doesn't care.

Ahem...Mr. McCain?

If any McCain advisors read this blog, then PLEASE get the old man to watch this clip! Pilots are generally smart, logical people, capable of making sound scientific judgments. Someone needs to set him straight on this issue.

He doesn’t need to take on the task of debunking global warming—he’d be crucified by the MSM if he committed such an act of apostasy—he just needs to say that we should be very certain about the existence of this phenomenon, before we enact federal policies that will derail a $14 trillion economy.

I’m a big fan of Pen and Teller, but I agree that Penn’s abundant use of profanity detracts from his credibility. Profanity loses its impact when it’s overused.
