In the lead up to the March 2003 Iraq invasion, CBS's Dan Rather interviewed Saddam Hussein.
Now, less than four months before America goes to the polls to elect a new president, NBC's Brian Williams is going to interview Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
I wonder if Williams will ask the lunatic despot who he's supporting in the coming elections?
Regardless of the answer, TVNewser reported about five hours ago (photo also courtesy Newser):
After a quick trip home, Brian Williams will be back on the road this weekend to interview Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Williams and his team will travel to Iran this weekend, with the interview taking place in Tehran on Monday. Excerpts will air on the Today show, MSNBC and msnbc.com. Williams will also anchor Nightly News from Tehran on Monday night.
Oooooh, I'm all tingly thinking about the tough questions this enemy of the state will be asked, and to see just how Williams sets Ahmadinejad up to praise Obama and bash McCain.
Stay tuned.

Do you think al Qaeda did better under Clinton or Bush?
Before you answer, think about all the al Qaeda that have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan since 9/11, and all those at Gitmo. Now compare those to all the al Qaeda Clinton killed and captured during his eight years in office, which we could probably count on one hand, right?
Now, with this in mind, do you REALLY THINK bin Laden is quaking in his boots thinking about the pacificist, dove Obama in office? Really? What in Obama's voting record since becoming senator in January 2005 would make bin Laden believe he'll be tougher on al Qaeda than Bush? You think he should be concerned with those fabulous campaign promises the Messiah is making?

Noel....I have fairly strong opinions on the subject, but after mixing it up [mostly friendly] about that and related questions just recently, I think I better wait a few days before poking at that hornet's nest. Otherwise, I might wind up in time-out again. :-)
However, I can't help but point out that nearly seven years after 9/11--the deadliest* and worst day in American history--the mass murdering thug bin Laden is [apparently] still alive and thumbing his nose at us. That alone is an indefensible outrage.

I think we had one shot at Tora Bora, and blew it. Since then, what the heck could we have done? Just one guy in a population of 7 billion in a huge world filled with people looking to protect him.
We had our shot, and missed. Now, all the talk about getting him is nonsense. Much more important to destroy his underlings, which by all accounts is happening. Recent intelligence reports depict al Qaeda as being the weakest its been in history.
And, here we are almost seven years later, and there haven't been follow-ups to 9/11. Why is it that nobody gives Bush credit for THAT?

I do give him credit for that. And, if I haven't said it often or emphatically enough, I'll repeat: I do give Bush credit for the absence of follow-up attacks since 9/11.
And I am far less fastidious about (relatively negligible) civil liberty issues associated with the Patriot Act and FISA than are many of my friends on the "left". The "sacrifice" is far too small and potential for abuse far too remote when balanced against the degree of harm which could be inflicted by our enemies. Compared to the measures enacted by Lincoln in the Civil War...well, there simply is no comparison.
