July 23, 2008 - 13:52 ET by buddycThank you. That was hilarious. I have tried to avoid watching the guy because he seems to always be making fun or republicans but he really gave it to the sierra club. Maybe I will give his show another chance.
warning: being a pseudo conservative is colbert's schtick
July 23, 2008 - 14:48 ET by abeautifulpersongive it another chance because he is very funny. but more often than not, its at the expense of conservatism.
Funniest thing I've seen in a while!
July 23, 2008 - 13:58 ET by MeanderingThat was hilarious! Nice job Colbert. On a serious note, if there is the "3rd largest deposit of natural gas" in Louisiana, then by all means we should go get it! Any source of energy found in America is great, just like in ANWR and in off shore and it is irresponsible of us as a nation to buy oil from other countries when we have great deposits of energy here. Let's go get it!
Meandering... on the natural gas find
July 23, 2008 - 15:12 ET by Gary HallMeandering... on the gas find. It looks, at a glance, to be a very new and potentially significant discovery. Let's hope it holds out. With Bobby Jindal as gov. in LA, chances are better that they can go after it.
Ref: Northwest Louisiana natural gas site gets attention
The concern here? Al Gore. Al Gore's recent plan, and it appears to have the unbridled support of the types like Pelosi and Reed, as well as our MSM - will not allow for any additional production of or use of any fossil fuel 10 years hence. The conversion to quackery and cold tofu will be legislated to be completed by that time. (;~> gary
Gary, For some reason drilling for GAS is just fine..
July 23, 2008 - 15:53 ET by upcountrywaterHave you seen a gas drilling rig?
What's difference in hardware & size?
No worries I'm not picking on you, just askin.

July 23, 2008 - 16:13 ET by Gary HallBeen on one, actually.
I wonder if you missed my point (yes, and I thought I remembered that the Clinton admin. actually supported drilling for the natural gas up in the ANWR area) ..my point was that Al Gore's plan - now wildly acceptable to the MSM - would not allow for any additional use of natural gas, not to mention drilling for additional supply. His plan calls for the US to convert all use of fossil fuels to green, etc., within 10 years. (:~> gary

July 23, 2008 - 16:52 ET by upcountrywatertomorrow. In Western Colorado, 60% of the truck traffic on I-70 is Helliburton red trucks. Gas wells are being drilled on oil shale lands.
Gas wells ok; oil wells BAD.
One of the ideas to recover oil from shale, is to cook it out with electric heaters, left in place for a year or two.
Personally I'd like to see Plutoium rods used, in place of electric heaters, shielded of course. Dreamin.... V.S. algore squishy green tofu power nightmare.

Why do we have to choose. . .
July 23, 2008 - 17:15 ET by WingletDriverbetween Alaskan energy and Cajun energy? I noticed this guy threw out LA's gas field without advocating going out to get it. Even if he weren't opposed (which he probably is), why do we have to choose between this and ANWR?

July 23, 2008 - 14:38 ET by expatriotIt was still funny and if that was an attempt to mock conservatives, keep it up. Pope looked rediculous as he should have.

July 23, 2008 - 14:21 ET by danboI missed it. I found an economy sized Super Glue and was looking for Gavin.
Limited Disclosure: I used to belong to the Sierra Club untill they went crazier. Worse of all, I was bribed by Exxon with free New Orleans Saints glasses with fill ups in the 70's.
Thanks for the link, danbo.

July 23, 2008 - 14:45 ET by abeautifulpersonits good when folk can participate in their own lampooning. bush may not have seen it coming when he invited colbert, but this guy knew he was fair game.
he was probably hoping for a little more than talking to a puppet, but as someone who supports some of sierra club's efforts, i still laughed out loud.

July 23, 2008 - 20:29 ET by MrShyI have.
Am I supposed to jump up now, and declare Jon's Bush-despising, Obama-loving, leftist slant a thing of the past??
While he's making fun of how much love the MSM is heaping on Obama (AND, they are including themselves in this, being so cutely self-deprecating) he's still not making fun of HIM and all the low-life company he's been keeping and then quickly dumping. And really, it just reinforces how "loved" the man is, joke or no joke.
The Daily Show hardly cooked up any real sketch (maybe a few quick one-liner jokes) during the peak of the over-the-top hilarious/scary Wright stuff, and Jesse's vile, outrageous video received a mild-ish hardy-har shout-out at the end of a segment that otherwise picked on the GOP.

Pope must be using that eco-friendly toothpaste called "dirt."
Oh and the comment about manageable footprints, ie "guilty hypocrisy" is false. Anyone can just up and kill themselves and save the planet from certain destruction. In fact those people should be saluted as the greenest people out there!

Steve Colbert's tired unfunny shtick
July 23, 2008 - 18:54 ET by lgeubankI got tired of Colbert's smart-aleck, role-playing persona about five minutes after he started it. He's just a stupider and much more juvenile Borat, and his idiot one-trick-pony act is tired, tired, tired. He's the most annoying Johnny One-Note on the entertainment scene today.
"More juvenile than Borat"?

July 23, 2008 - 20:24 ET by sarcasmoAs long as Bill O'Reilly has a show on Fox, the comedy universe will need to continue with Steven Colbert the very funny IMO parody of same. Prediction: IMO if Bill O ever loses his job, Colbert's act will be over within the year.
