Shark Watch Open Thread

Greg Norman is going for the history books today, trying to become the oldest man to ever win a "major" golf tournament.

Through three, he looks VERY nervous going out bogey-bogey-bogey, while Padraig Harrington, the defending champion, has gone a very impressive par-par-par (photo courtesy Getty Images).

Will Greg settle down and make this a match, or is this another classic Sunday el foldo by the Shark? Assuming the former, and Norman could actually win this at 53, how important an event would this be in sports history?

Chris Wood

NBers,

Here's another interesting side to this tournament: 20-year-old British amateur Chris Wood, playing in his first major, is currently three off the lead. ns

1994 TPC

I just happened to be there when Norman shot 24 under to win the TPC 63-67-67-67. He was in a trance ... hope he can pull this one off

It won't matter if the Shark folds..

According to reports, he and chrissy are just so blissfully happy and open about being cheaters and liars.

Padraig

NBers,

Wow. What a performance by Padraig. That's the way to play golf on Sunday. Wow!

As for the Shark, seven over in Round Four is, well, pretty poor. With all his experience, and a two stroke lead coming from the clubhouse, why did he insist on using his driver so often?

With the conditions, a links course, and the lead, why wasn't he thinking fairways and greens?

Regardless, thanks for making it interesting, Greg. ns

→ And I missed it

Wow, when my grandkids ask me "Grandpa where were you the last time Greg Norman blew a chance to win a major?"  I'l have to answer "Blogging".

If he HAD won

I don't think it would have been too important for long. How many of us DON'T expect Tiger to be kicking ass at age 63, if not 73 or 83?

The tax & spend drug war looks racist in the real world.
