For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Iran test-fires nine missiles!
One day after threatening to strike Israeli and U.S. interests if attacked, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards were reported Wednesday to have test-fired nine missiles, including one that Tehran claims has the range to reach Israel. State-run media, quoted by Western news agencies, said the tests near the Strait of Hormuz included long- and medium-range missiles, among them a new version of the Shahab-3, which Tehran maintains can hit targets 2,000 kilometers, or 1,250 miles, away.
How serious is this?

I have a question for you. How can any entry on the "Open Thread" thread be 'off thread?'
I see at least one entry per day in the Open Thread that starts out either "off thread" or "off topic" I suspect the term Open Thread means nothing to you!! :o)

July 9, 2008 - 14:09 ET by misterbillI doubt that it is me for only one reason--I do not post here often any more. However, today this was suggested:
"Possible talking point: Iran test-fires nine missiles!"
I chose, as one of the first entries to convey the information from Malkin that had nothing to do with the suggestion. Thus as a courtesy to others, I marked it off thread.
I am also a member of a site that will suspend , (yes, suspend) you if you violate the thread content.
I would have considered your question to be cutrosity until your end sentence:"I suspect the term Open Thread means nothing to you!! :o) ", was not too complimentary. However, in spite of a 50 year career in computers, I do not know what the ":o)" means.

July 9, 2008 - 10:32 ET by dscottI would say the Iranians are handing us a pretext to bomb their one and only gasoline refinery. Without gasoline, their already failing economy will collapse. The Mullahs and the Madhatter will be overthrown.
So yeah, go for it punk, make our day, try to close the Straight of Hormuz you need the tankers as much as the Europeans do, we don't need to invade, we need only sit back to watch the mayhem.
However, judging by the successful negotiating tactics of the DPRK's great leader firing missles into the sea I predict the Euro-cowards and Japanese will sweeten their previous deal to the Iranians even more thus giving the Mullahs the time and money to continue with their plans of world conquest. Take the war to them. We have the means. I would expect the very same from any of or enemies. No quarter asked, or given. Then we'll really see how much the American people love our country. We'd quickly find out, and then we'd know what to do with the one's that want to put America last, I for one, am sick of the blame America first crowd.

A couple of obvious points.
#1. What other languages does the Columbia and Harvard educated Obama speak?
As far as I can investigate online, none. Not even Hawaiian, though he lived there for 12 years as a kid. The "dummy" Bush is fluent in Spanish, by the way.
#2. He's implying that if you just visit a foreign country you should take the effort to learn their language. Okay...
How about actual Americans who can't speak English?
How come his campaign website is also in Spanish? Doesn't he think that citizens qualified to vote should be able to read, write and speak fluent English?
#3. Shouldn't he stop saying "You know what I'm sayin', to audiences, which seems to be the "street talk" patronizing equivalent of McCain's "my friend"
Agreed, Jack. Once again
July 9, 2008 - 12:45 ET by motherbeltAgreed, Jack.
Once again we have Obama without a teleprompter, and screwing up. He implied that it's OK for foreigners to come here and speak their own languages, but shameful for us to go abroad and only know a word or two. He didn't say they come here and learn English; he said they speak German and Spanish etc.
Probably a screwup of what he meant to say, but then again, that's what he does when he's speaking off the cuff.

When will Obama be tossing
July 9, 2008 - 17:57 ET by Roger the ShrubberWhen will Obama be tossing Jesse under the bus?
I wonder how Jesse Jackson
July 9, 2008 - 18:48 ET by RESTLESS 1I wonder how Jesse Jackson really feels about the messiah.
From the link:
"The original comments referenced Obama’s speeches in black churches.
Jackson said in a written statement he was trying to emphasize that
Obama’s moral message should 'not only deal with the personal and moral
responsibility of black males, but to deal with the collective moral
responsibility of government and the public policy.'”
Well of course!!! If blacks took responsibility for themselves, they would have nothing to blame whitey for. That would be a real problem for jesse dumbass.

Congressman Jesse Jackson
July 9, 2008 - 21:50 ET by bigtimerCongressman Jesse Jackson Jr. is even PO'd at his dad....he made an earlier statement.
This is too funny...now of course Sharpton is defending all of this on H&C...they will all circle the wagons...worry not.
If this was reversed in anyway shape or form with the repubs....it would be HUGE everywhere!!! For days!!!
Jesse apologized, Obama said it's okay...Sharpton is the be all end all...
....that's it's folks.
End of story.

→ If this was reversed
July 10, 2008 - 06:49 ET by Cool ArrowIf it was reversed, the cries of racism would have the white person who said it driven out of town via pitchfork and torch.
But once again the hypocrisy of the condescending atronizing left reigns supreme.
Even Jesse Jackson gets the "He don't know no better" treatment.
Obama already lacks something if he doesn't repudiate and condemn Jesse Jackson for his hateful remark concerning the removal of his genitalia.

I asked my wife if it had been produced by the Democratic party. She said she doubted it but wanted to know why I thought so. I said, "because they both have a talking ass as a key figure".
