For years, climate alarmists in the media have loved showing video footage of Greenland glaciers slipping into the ocean in order to evoke feelings of global warming gloom and doom in the citizenry.
On Friday, the journal Science is publishing a seventeen year study of Greenland's ice sheet that flatly contradicts all such hysterical reports and claims.
In fact, the paper concludes that such melting is a normal summertime event, and that when looked at over a longer period of time, there has been little change in the ice sheets in this region, and even possibly a slowing in glacial movement.
Imagine that.
Somewhat surprisingly, the New York Times' Andrew C. Revkin appears to be the first to report some of the findings (emphasis added):
[A] new Dutch study of 17 years of satellite measurements of ice movement in western Greenland concludes that the speedup of the ice is a transient summertime phenomenon, with the overall yearly movement of the grinding glaciers not changing, and actually dropping slightly in some places, when measured over longer time spans.
The work, the authors and other experts caution, does not mean that more widespread surface melting could not eventually destabilize vast areas of the world’s second-largest ice storehouse. But for the moment, the study, which is being published in Friday’s edition of the journal Science, throws into question the notion that abrupt ice losses in Greenland are nigh.
“The positive-feedback mechanism between melt rate and ice velocity appears to be a seasonal process that may have only a limited effect on the response of the ice sheet to climate warming over the next decades,” said the paper.
If the findings in this study prove accurate, one of the cornerstones of the global warming myth will have been completely debunked.
As such, I'm sure this will be headline and front-page news all weekend long once this paper is officially published. And, I imagine climate alarmists like Nobel Laureate Al Gore and NASA's James Hansen will not only be asked to comment about these new revelations, but will also be available for interviews with curious media members in the days ahead.

July 3, 2008 - 15:45 ET by Captain RepusThis story is rubbish and I can prove it. I saw the ice melting myself in films from Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth and also saw the same thing in another movie. See there? not only can I prove the ice is melting, I can prove it in two different places.
Maybe the fact that I had to turn up the temp on my electric blanket last night is contributing to the melting. If so, sorry, but it was really cold here last night.

Personally, I'm praying for the perfect storm. Many revelations, such as this, the price of oil continuing to rise, the Democrats continuing to say "no drilling", and the IPCC report being shown to be a fallacy. If all of this happens, before November, the Republican Bums could actually win one they shouldn't. Then, if they think they didn't something worthy of this, they would be in power for 2 years before the voters took them out again.

False folks saw the opportunity to imitate fraudulent TV evangelists (not all, but many). They saw that if they were feeding a frenzy of fear with their "gospel" of CO2 foaming fortelling, they could make big bucks (movies, books, carbon credit businesses, etc) filling their coffers full with free money.

If you compare the photos for 7/3/07 vs 7/3/08 guess what year has more ice coverage at this time???

I just returned from scout camp, and had to re-educate the boys on
global warming...the stupid merit badge councilor for environmental
science showed the inconvenient truth; I really felt sorry for these
boys because they didn't know who to trust...because all their teachers
are saying the polar ice caps are all melting away, and I was saying
something different. They didn't believe me at first, until the other
scout master chimed in and said Al Gore is a liar and its all a sham.
It seriously upset a couple of boys, because they were getting
conflicting information from their leaders. These kids are so brain
washed, it took some effort to convince them.

- 7.3 Billion barrels of oil are estimated in the West Greenland–East Canada Province (USGS)
Based on Gile's "calculations" this should lower gasoline by over $2 a gallon! Include ANWR at a Gile's derived -$0.60/gallon = a combined -$2.60 cheaper gas! Just think what happens when we add in the OCS:

July 4, 2008 - 08:29 ET by SickofLibsThis rampant and often misleading use of stock footage showing huge ice chunks crashing into the sea is getting really annoying.
My solution is simple: a multi-national armada of cropdusters sprays different hues of food coloring on the ice abutting all the oceans; green for Greenland, red for Antarctica etc. etc. Then we can know for sure that the footage they're showing us is actually somewhat related to the story being told.
Of course, there would be some be harmless collateral damage in terms of baby blue pengiuns, purple polar bears or orange seals, but I think it would be worth it.
OK now, let me get this straight...
