Surveillance Protest Group Storms Obama's Website

Imagine for a moment a group of conservatives disenchanted with Republican presidential nominee John McCain's position on immigration stormed his campaign website by the thousands. Do you think this would garner some media attention?

Probably 24 hours a day, seven days a week until cabbies in even minor cities around the country were discussing it with their fares, right?

Well, the ultra-liberal Nation reported the following inconvenient truth about Barack Obama's supporters Tuesday evening, and it's going to be very interesting to see just how much his adoring press covers this somewhat startling revelation (emphasis added, picture courtesy Vanity Fair):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

A grassroots group of activists has been organizing on MyBo, Obama's official social networking portal, to protest the Senator's recent decision to back controversial legislation granting the President more spying powers. The effort hit a big milestone on Tuesday afternoon: It is now the largest self-organized group on Obama's website, topping networks that were launched over a year ago. The spying protest, "Senator Obama - Please Vote NO on Telecom Immunity - Get FISA Right," launched last week. (See Obama Network Organizes and Revolts Over Spying, The Nation.)

Membership spiked to about 8,900 people on Tuesday, edging out a student group with roughly 8,600 members, and one organizer estimated that the growth rate reached a rapid four percent during the daytime.

Pay attention, NewsBusters, for there's a person in the middle of this that should be very familiar if you've been diligently reading all of my articles:

"To reach number one, we're going to need all of us to start talking to - and emailing - their family and friends," wrote blogger Mike Stark in a missive to the group at 3:46am on Monday. "[Obama] said he'd open up government and respond to the people instead of the special interests," he added, "so let's force him to respond." Stark also recruited members at the blog OpenLeft, while the group began drawing traffic from coverage in Wired, The Nation, TPM, Time, and The New York Times.

Does the name "Mike Stark" ring a bell? Well, it should, because this is the gentleman I debated online in January 2007. He's also had tussles with Fox News's Bill O'Reilly, and was the guy that held a sign defaming Sean Hannity behind Alan Colmes during coverage of the Connecticut Democrat primary in 2004.

Moving forward, as NewsBusters pointed out, the New York Times did mention this Internet uprising on Wednesday; how many others that follow suit is yet to be determined.

Those that don't should wonder why they're even bothering covering this election.

This will be interesting to

This will be interesting to see if this is covered anywhere else of course...I haven't seen/heard any of this being covered in the msm at all yet, but then again I haven't listened all day, I do wonder if maybe H&C will mention some of this or Olbie for sure...let alone Dan Abrams...if he still has a show...then there is always Anderson 360.

Print media...yet to be seen that I know of...

One thing for sure though, wanna' bet if/when this comes up for a vote..he will change his opinion...again.

At this point in the campaign, Obama probably feels being attacked by the left will help. He can point at this kind of thing and use the old, "See, I get attacked by both sides, proving that I'm a centrist" line. If his wingnut supporters don't get too angry, he can still depend on their votes in November, so he can get elected and fulfill the trust they put in him to be a far left liberal.

Evening Chris...Plus he

Evening Chris...

Plus he counts on the msm carrying the water for him, mentioning very little about the dissent with his previous far leftists supporters...he wants this to remain silent...or at least wait until the gang of leftist lemmings in the msm of all venues can find a defense for him with their usual identical talking points...lol.

Btw...I wonder where MediaMatters is on this...I haven't thought to check there...I may later after I get done fixing dinner.

Anyone happen know?

....check back in a bit.

Chiming in here....I still say, come November they will revert to the pack. In the end, they have no principles, they just want "their side" to win, even if it's not a perfect association.

It's the conservatives who actually follow their principles and either vote against their party or don't vote if they don't believe in their party's candidate.

That's what's going to kill McCain.

Rush L. has twice that many listeners at any one time, tuned in to his radio broadcast, but not listening because they're in the john having a movement.

But the Press is  desperately looking to Report BAD news, this is an opportunity for  them.   But it's their Buddy, Obamarama, and it's the Internet....the MSM doesn't  want to acknowledge it exists...or if the MSM gives out a Web site, they may lose more viewers to the NEW media.

The Republican Revolution will not be Televised

Can You Imagine

Of course, Obama’s move to the center and even to the right on many of his previous positions is strictly political to garner the votes of independents and even some Republicans who are disenchanted with RINO McCain.

Given McCain’s left of center positions on immigation, global warming, drilling in ANWR, taxes, etc. wouldn’t it be interesting if Obama eventually moved to the right of MCCain on many of the positions Conservatives hold dear?

I'm voting for Barack Obama now that the unbiased AP poll shows people would rather barbecue burgers with Barack Obama than with John McCain.   http://news.yahoo.com/page/election-2008-political-pulse-candidates

The MSM would put a Choke hold on Obama, if he did that

NOT that it would take much to be RIGHT of McCain....but Who would Believe it If Obama moved right of Center ?

For Obama, it would Be BIGGER than a Flip/Flop...we'd have to Invent a New Word....any Ideas ? ?

How 'bout ...hmmm...

A Hussein Move to the Right ?

The Republican Revolution will not be Televised

A Hussein Move to the Right ?

I like the sound of that and it fits the scenerio; and you're correct that Obama takes a hit from the left and the MSM every time he changes his true liberal positions.

I wonder how far left John McCain will reach to collect Democrat votes and show the liberals he's no George Bush.

We need a nice 1- 2 beat tune to go with that... flip, flop, flip, flop, flip, flop   Anyone got a tune this could go with?

Liberal memories are both short and selective.

I guess these liberal clowns conveniently forgot about Slick Willy and his "Know Your Customer" financial surveillance scheme. Where banks were required to report their customers' financial transactions to the fed's, in direct violation of the Fourth Amendment.

Or maybe how the liberal geezers that illegally recorded Newt's phone calls were never prosecuted.

Nope, spying sure doesn't seem to be a problem when it's lib's doing the snooping.

Or, for that matter, when it comes to divulging surreptitiously obtained national security information to make their political opponents look bad. The New York Slimes has done genuine harm to this country's security, on several recent occasions, with their so-called reporting. And not once have they suffered any repercussions for doing so. Sadly, it makes you nostalgic for the days when the NYT editorial board would have been lined up against a wall and shot for providing aid and comfort to our enemies.

Look at this comment on the Nation article:

AT THIS POINT IN TIME, NO PROGRESSIVE CAN OPENLY SOUND LIKE A PROGRESSIVE AND GET ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!!

Did you get that?

The most us progressives can hope for at this point in time is someone like Barack who ACTUALLY IS a progressive, but engages in centrist rhetoric on occasion to not alienate others who may agree with us on particular progressive issues, even though they disagree with us on other progressive issues.

Republicans are trying to put Barack in the "He won't keep America safe" box, and allowing suspected terrorists' communication to go unmonitored would allow them to put Barack in that box.

Obama realizes this, and is therefore "talking" forcefully about the need to re-authorize FISA to deal with the terrorist threat, but behind the scenes he is the KEY leader in the senate negotiating a deal to strip telecom immunity and ensure judicial oversight over ALL wiretaps of suspected terrorists.

So the advice is to lie in order to get elected, then show your real stripes. What a bunch.

So True

I agree with the comments you quoted from the website.  Even McCain has attempted to sound more centrist or conservative in some of his positions.  I think most political observers know this routine.  Our problem is the people who don't pay attention unless its on the nightly news or the Daily Show.  Those folks may think what they see is real and vote accordingly.

"Money is the scourge of the men who attempt to reverse the law of causality--the men who seek to replace the mind by seizing the products of the mind."  Ayn Rand

I'll echo what other people

I'll echo what other people are saying here. Obama is such a cipher that he can pretty much fabricate his current identity. He doesn't have much of a voting record, and his backstory is very heavily controlled by himself and his allies.

So, yeah, he can suddenly appear to be a "centrist", and he can manipulate the fringes of his side, by pretending to differ from them. They will holler and scream, because that is the only thing these people do. But when it comes time to vote, they will be the mindless, loyal lap-dogs that they are.

Lenin had it right: "Useful idiots".

Obama has thrown them under

Obama has thrown them under the bus like he did with Rev Wright and so many others. Looks like the anti-war people are reliving the feeling of tire marks on their backs again.  I wonder if they are so gullible as to believe the Dems a second time in two years.  They were foolish enough to believe Pelosi, Dean and Reid in 2006.  "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on ME."

When the rest of the public fully appreciates Obama will say anything to sell himself, they will see him for the snake oil salesmen he is.  It takes a lot of slick talk to sell snake oil.
