Dem Congressman's Refusal to Endorse 'Liberal' Obama Goes Largely Ignored

If a Republican Congressman publicly announced that he will not endorse John McCain because the GOP presidential nominee is too conservative and has a track record of refusing to reach across the aisle to work with Democrats, would the press report it?

Probably 24 hours a day, seven days a week until this Republican Congressman became a household name, right?

Well, on Tuesday, the Associated Press revealed the name of a Democrat Congressman from Oklahoma that is refusing to endorse Barack Obama for president because he believes the nominee is "the most liberal senator" in the nation whose "record does not reflect working in a bipartisan fashion."

Oddly, this announcement went almost completely ignored by television news outlets while garnering no attention from major newspapers such as the New York Times, Washington Post, and USA Today:

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Democratic Rep. Dan Boren of Oklahoma said Tuesday Barack Obama is "the most liberal senator" in Congress and he has no intention of endorsing him for the White House.

However, Boren will vote for Obama at the Democratic National Convention in Denver in August and will vote Democratic on Nov. 4. [...]

Boren, the lone Democrat in Oklahoma's congressional delegation, said that while Obama has talked about working with Republicans, "unfortunately, his record does not reflect working in a bipartisan fashion."

Boren, a self-described centrist, is seeking a third term this year in a mostly rural district that stretches across eastern Oklahoma.

"We're much more conservative," Boren said of district. "I've got to reflect my district. No one means more to me than the people who elected me. I have to listen them." He called Obama "the most liberal senator in the U.S. Senate."

According to LexisNexis, the only television outlets to address this matter were CNN -- on Tuesday's "Lou Dobbs Tonight" and Wednesday's "CNN Newsroom" -- and very surprisingly MSNBC on Tuesday's "Race for the White House with David Gregory."

Even more shocking, the perilously liberal Rachel Maddow -- of Air America Radio infamy -- not only reported this news to Gregory, but also considered it to be a very important development:

RACHEL MADDOW, MSNBC POLITICAL ANALYST: That`s right, David. While the Republicans predictably hit Barack Obama from the right today, my headline is about him being blindsided. Republicans are calling him a tax- and-spend liberal. You`d expect that. But he got some surprising news from a Democratic conservative congressman today named Dan Boren. He`s the son of former Oklahoma governor and senator David Boren, who happens to be an enthusiastic supporter.

Boren Jr. told reporters today that he will not endorse Obama`s run for the presidency because Obama is "too liberal." Now, what`s the significance of this? Granted, Dan Boren himself is obscure enough that you`d have to explain who he`s the son of before anybody understands what you`re talking about. But for Obama, this could be a worrying sign about conservative Democrats who backed Clinton being unwilling to join Obama`s camp.

A worrying sign? Sure, if more news outlets covered it, Rachel.

Regardless, NewsBusters has been very hard on Maddow in the past, but must give her credit for reporting what few in the Obama-loving media have yet dared to.

Drudge Boosts The Liberal Response To Boren

The Drudge Report (Thursday) has this linked headline:

"At Least 14 GOP Congressman Have Refused To Endorse McCain"

It's from the center-left TheHill.com.

Let me throw out a related Drudge question.

Until several months ago I felt The Drudge Report usually had a center-right slant.

Drudge was also an excellent source for Climate Realism articles that balanced out the relentless MSM support for man made Global Warming.

I feel like Drudge has now moved conspicuously to the Left.

Almost every day now he links to Leftside blogs like The Politico, Slate, Salon, etc.

I felt the change came when Hillary Clinton refused to drop out after Super Tuesday, and Drudge moved decisively to supporting Obama.

To my eye, Drudge treated Clinton the way the NYTimes treats Republicans.

For almost three days recently, Drudge had the bogus Hillary Clinton "Drunk" photo as his headline picture.

Last week, Drudge hyped the NYC "Record Heat Wave" for three days but said nothing about the other half of America which was recording below average temps.

Drudge almost never links now to Climate Realism articles.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Drudge's readership numbers in the future.

Is Drudge seeking MSM approval and trying to re-brand himself as a fair and balanced "Centrist?"

I know he is steadily losing my interest.

zee.....I have noticed the same thing....

I really do not understand why he would do such a thing, to purposely self destruct?  Why is he tampering with success?  Has he finally sold out?  What a shame if profit comes before reason.

BEGRUNT - Financially, Not Sure It Makes Sense

I feel like Drudge is undergoing a political conversion, and that Obama may be the main reason.

Years back, I listened to Drudge's radio program a few times and always came away with the sense that Drudge was a centrist Republican, not a Conservative.

I think a large, core part of Drudge's readership is Conservative.

The reason I used to check Drudge several times a day was that I don't have the time or the energy to read 50 news articles in order to find the one article that might interest a Conservative.

Drudge is - or was - a terrific "aggregator" of Conservative news stories found in the mainstream press.

In some ways I felt Drudge was the "print" version of Rush Limbaugh - they both collect Conservative news and deliver it to a mass audience.

Admittedly, Drudge has other core audiences.

He does a great job with celebrity gossip, breaking news, and human interest stories.

But if he tries to be an "aggregator" of center-left news, not only will he lose Conservatives, he will have to compete against every MSM webpage in the world.

Well good for Maddow... I

Well good for Maddow...

I heard it this morning on msnbc I am quite sure it was anyway, more than once at various times off and on way before Gregory's show...

Point well taken though about the msm just mentioning it here and there as if it isn't a big deal, but if it was the opposite with a conservative congress member saying they cannot vote for McCain because he is too liberal...would the msm mention it as much?

Wow - what courage Maddow has

Hasn't he seen what they have been doing to dissenters? This is really courageous.

He almost got it right

Barry isn't a liberal, he's a Marksist, who probably hs somebody, a white guy I suppose, who is pulling the strings, somewhere behind a curtain.

Could I be getting paranoid?

I don't get it

Democratic Rep. Dan Boren of Oklahoma said Tuesday Barack Obama is
"the most liberal senator" in Congress and he has no intention of
endorsing him for the White House. However, Boren will vote for Obama at the Democratic National Convention in Denver in August and will vote Democratic on Nov. 4.

Isn't saying you will vote for someone the definition of endorsement?

Obama's a lib? Well, blow me down!

Is it possible that the Man of Taupe's opposition to the  Born Alive Infant Protection Act is touching a conscience?  Nah - Boren must be a racist!

cest moi

How dare you reach into Obama's Illinois Legislature past and drag up Bambi's protection of infanticide.

Actually, it's the only issue he ever vigorously fought for, and you're not supposed to be aware of it unless you are a member of NOW.

He's a racist!

That's the only explanation why he won't really vote for Obama...he's a white racist!

first of all, we all know

first of all, we all know mccain's record. he will NEVER be called too conservative by republicans. mccain has always been very moderate.

secondly, the republican equivalent to the above situation is a republican not voting for mccain because he isn't conservative enough. and we do have that situation.

tancredo re-iterated this stance on hardball last night. he claims he can't endorse him but will publically state he will vote for him. i'm not sure there is that much difference.

the msm has not reported this as widely as you would think.

To me Obama is far left

He has socialist, marxist ideas not good for America.

He is in bed with the unions and that is not good for keeping jobs in America.

He has questionable associates like Ayers, the homeland terrorist, Retzko the crook and his racist Rev. Wright.

I don't think Obama supports equal opportunity for all either.

I think he would drastically cut our military to get more money for his beloved socialist/marxist programs.

I also think he would give Homeland Security low priority.
