ABC Reporter Actually Asks Obama a Tough Question

Mark this date, June 10, 2008, on your calendars as the day someone in the Obama-loving media finally asked the Democrat presidential nominee a tough question.

Potentially even more surprising, the question and answer were posted at ABC News's website.

Is this a rare moment of clarity for a press member, or is this a sign the kid gloves are coming off now that Obama has won the nomination?

While you ponder, take a gander at what ABC's Jake Tapper posted at his blog Tuesday (emphasis added):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

ABC News' Sunlen Miller today asked Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, how he could "rail against Countrywide Financial Corp as an example of insiders and today's economy while your VP search is headed by someone who got questionable loans from Countrywide?" (This is an issue we wrote about earlier today.)

"And in addition," Miller continued, "another person on that same VP search team – Eric Holder -- has also been involved in the Marc Rich scandal."

"Well, look," Obama said, "the, the, I mean - first of all I am not vetting my VP search committee for their mortgages, so you’re gong to have to direct -- "

"But shouldn’t you?" asked Miller.

Crikey! Maybe even more shocking, Tapper took issue with Obama's answer:

Did I read that correctly? Did Obama claim that Johnson and Holder -- two of the three people heading up his VP search committee -- aren't "work"ing for him?

I suppose that's because they're unpaid, but my stars, that's a lot of high-level, time-consuming sensitive effort to not be considered "working" for Sen. Obama.

Double crikey!

Is this a foreshadowing of a potentially less Obama-loving media now that the junior senator from Illinois is an election away from becoming the most powerful person in the world? Or, are press members going to have to confront the Democrat presidential nominee every now and then just to give themselves some pretense of objectivity and journalistic integrity?

Stay tuned.

No, it is more likely a foreshadowing that this reporter will be covering Death Valley wildlife sightings this summer.

I was thinking the same thing Ben

As I was reading, my thoughts were, "I see an embedded assignment in Iraq on an IED disposal team coming up for this reporter."

"All generalizations are false, including this one.” Mark Twain

Isn't it possible?

Isn't it possible that this ABC news reporter wanted to make a name for herself?  Could she be acting defiant against the old goats that won't ask the questions that need to be asked?

Anyway.... i'm just glad that she did, and hope she and others follow suit, to flush out this inexperienced golden boy.  There is too much that needs to be asked.  and I'm tired of screaming the questions at the tv!!

she'll be working ABC's

she'll be working ABC's Barrow, Alaska affiliate by this time tomorrow

her clothes will be mailed...

But Ben,

wouldn't it be wonderful if the media was doing some real vetting? One could only hope...but I feal Noel's last choice is the correct choice. They will throw out the rare "tough" question to be able to say "See, See, we DO ask him the hard questions" and then continue to paint McCain into a corner he may, or may not deserve.

I do think I saw that reporter hitch hiking to DV...they would not provide a car and gasoline. :)

Obama's Connection Chicago Style Seems Luck Always On His Side

The fact is, in addition to being his real estate fairy for the $2 million mansion, Rezko is Obama's political Godfather. His career in politics was launched on July 31, 1995, with contributions of $2,000 from Rezko for the Illinois senate campaign. Obama only raised about $100,000 for that race, with roughly $15,000 coming from Rezko.

After Rezko was indicted in October 2006, Obama claimed Rezko only raised $50,000 or $60,000 over his political career. This is the story he gave in the media for more than a year. But the total amount revealed during interviews with the Chicago Sun-Times and Tribune on March 14, 2008, added up to a quarter million.

Several of the people who led Obama's corrupt finance committee for the US senate race with Rezko, and collected all the contributions from the people involved in the pay-to-pay schemes, are now running the show for his presidential campaign.

Excellent articles by Evelyn Pringle..  she wrote 5 articles concerning Obama's rising in Chicago style politics......    link http://www.scoop.co....

So is this a "change"?

"...Obama claimed Rezko only raised $50,000 or $60,000 over his political career. This is the story he gave in the media for more than a year. But the total amount revealed during interviews with the Chicago Sun-Times and Tribune on March 14, 2008, added up to a quarter million.

And this Obama fraud had the brass to promote himself as a “change” from the Clintons?!?

Why he is clearly a soul brother, if not a blood brother; looking, acting, and lying like them more and more everyday.

Impunitas semper ad deteriora invitat.

And this Obama fraud had

And this Obama fraud had the brass to promote himself as a “change” from the Clintons?!?

It's a pretty, catchy slogan, and one of the oldest, tiredest mantras in politics. It represents nothing new. Indeed, it shows Obama to be just another empty-headed Democratic politician. Someone tell me, how the hell did this bozo get the nomination? Are Democrats that utterly stupid?

There may be just enough....

...reporters with a shred of integrity left to ask about those  "inconvenient truths" (to coin a phrase) that will show Obama to be the inexperienced, amateurish, dangerous candidate that he is.

Meanwhile HRC waits and plots her next move.

There must be some kind of mistake!!!

"Didn't you mean to ask me about the fist bump"?

"Or maybe about hope and change or change and hope"???

Methinks that Obambi was

Methinks that Obambi was "hoping" that the reporter would "change" the subject.

»→ FOX talking points

This is too funny.

The media can't watch FOX news and troll the right wing blogs without finding an acorn they understan once in a while.

Usually it's "what's all the fuss about?"  But for some reason this one resonated.

Pretty bad when Obama has to invoke the services of Saint Caroline to make his water carriers appear above reproach.

  • LYDSEXICS UNTIE

and let's not forget

that "Saint Caroline" began this whole "Obama-rama" thingy due to listening to her CHILDREN!  They urged her to consider him!!! So much for parenting children, it is the children leading the parents with ALL their wisdom nowadays!!!!

Remember some of the guidance we used to receive from our parents?  "Birds of a feather flock together" and most importantly, "You are judged by the company you keep!"

Let's face it, she is pretty much between a rock and a hard place.  'Twill be very interesting to see how this all turns out ;-)  Maybe she should ask her kids what to do now.

It's a sign of the Apocalypse

...or Hillary's minions haven't given up the fight. Democrats spent most of the last decade fighting trench media wars against Bush when they lost in 2000. We're seeing the same being applied towards Obama. If they can start smearing him now, and force negative sheeple opinion soon, then Shrillary can make a move for 2012.

Or, scarier, if her people can whip up enough hatred, and Obama gets "incapacitated" before the election, Hillary's back in the saddle.

UPDATE on Tapper's

UPDATE on Tapper's site:

Sen. John McCain presidential campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds
just pounced on this, saying “It’s preposterous for Senator Obama to
claim that the leader of his VP selection committee isn’t working for
him. Barack Obama has castigated Countrywide Financial, but now that
Jim Johnson has been exposed for taking sweetheart deals from
Countrywide’s CEO - Obama is in a state of denial. It’s that brand of
weak leadership and hypocrisy that shows why Barack Obama has no record
of taking courageous stands or making change in Washington.”

Has Sen. McCain disavowed that statement from Bounds and apologized for it yet?

just be patient, mb

he'll come through for us once again before the day is out!

Let's judge McCain the same

Let's judge McCain the same way and look at all the mortgages of all the lobbyists who are working on his campaign. Then let's all take a good look at McCain's role in the Keating Five and all those travel perks he got and refused to pay for until he was called on the carpet.

Typical Liberal "But what about ..." answer/comment

Heaven forbid a lib actually stay on track and answer/comment on the subject at hand.

I don't remember you guys

I don't remember you guys thinking it "spoke volumes" about Bush.

I remember what you said

I remember what you said about Bush. Bush just confused his words, Obama just confuses himself.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

I always said that Bush was

I always said that Bush was a terrible public speaker when off the script. I never claimed it "spoke volumes" about anything else. But suddenly, when Obama does it, it means something more.

Bal, Bush isn't that great a

Bal, Bush isn't that great a speaker when he's "on" the script.  That's something we've all known from the beginning and accepted.  In fact personally, I find he's usually better speaking off-the-cuff.

The point is BHO is supposed to be this great intellect simply because his oration is outstanding when he's reading from a prepared script.  Take that away from him and one has to wonder what's underneath.  It's a performance he's giving and he's playing a part.  Even actors can play geniuses when given the right words.

I find little difference

I find little difference between the two situations. Neither is good speaking w/o a script. Obama is great with one. Bush is just OK. I don't think either one -- both Ivy League educated -- are somehow less intelligent because of this.

Bal, I don't think anyone is

Bal, I don't think anyone is saying Obama is dumb.  It's just the contrast from the perception that he's somehow more intelligent simply because he speaks better at the podium.

I think the difference in the situation is, sad to say, we've always had lower expectations for Bush's oration.

I can see that. I was

I can see that. I was originally responding to this statement:

You don't see this inane filler in his speeches do you? Speak volumes about this guy.

what goes around comes

what goes around comes around

so now "bushisms" will give way to "obamamumblings"

I don't think either one --

I don't think either one -- both Ivy League educated -- are somehow less intelligent because of this.

Ya think? Hussein got his degree from Harvard. How many intelligent people have come out of Harvard? Not many. The application selections comittee looks at one of two things about an applicant, the depth of the his/her parent's pockets (endowments, endowments!) or how bizarre his/her background. Hussein clearly got in on the latter.

As Wm F Buckley put it, “I'd rather entrust the government of the United States to the first 400 people listed in the Boston telephone directory than to the faculty of Harvard University.”

Ah, so when _your_ guy went

Ah, so when _your_ guy went to an Ivy League school, it means something. But when a Democrat does, it doesn't.

Bush did not go as a part

Bush did not go as a part of a "quota". O went because he is black.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

Any proof of that allegation, Bass??

Because Obama was Editor of the Harvard Law Review, which means I suspect you have none whatsoever. You don't get to be Law Review Editor with quotas, you get that with extreme smarts along with good political instincts (Obama would have needed to please conservative top Hahvahd law students along with lefties and maybe a libertarian or two to make it to the very top, and he obviously did). There are many issues to attack Barak Obama on for partisan Republicans who want John McCain to be President. Brainpower ain't one of 'em, so you'll need to "link or slink" on this one. Law Review is an intellectual heirarchy among some already very smart people. Barak came in first.
JMR

The tax & spend drug war looks racist in the real world.

I was not saying he is

I was not saying he is stupid. The question was, if he was not black, would he have been going to that school. Was he part of affirmitive action? Without the quotas, would he have been there?

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

If he's smart enough to rise to the TOP of Harvard's Law Review?

Yes. No quotas needed. He beat the others or he wouldn't have been their Editor, so getting into Harvard was probably a piece of cake for Obama. Quotas are morally wrong, and but one of their many moral wrongs is that racial quotas tend to lead to bad assumptions.
JMR

The tax & spend drug war looks racist in the real world.

Editor? Im talking about

Editor? Im talking about being admitted to the school, sarc. He was not admitted to the school to be the Editor. He became editory after the fact. Try to pay attention and stop trying to spin it your way, for a change.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

I did, why not try reading what I said.

Admission to Harvard is a low hurdle compared to the top slot at their Law Review. Try to pay attention and stop trying to spin it your way, for a change.
JMR

The tax & spend drug war looks racist in the real world.

sarc, again, nothing to do

sarc, again, nothing to do with me original post or question. Your the only one that mentioned "editor". I never did. I was talking admissions. You talk apples when everyone else is talking plums. I wonder about you sometimes.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

Again, a low hurdle

If he beat the elite, admission was a piece of cake. Like it or not, quotas or not. Imagine questioning whether Noel's son can jump over an ordinary golf ball, if you want an analogy.
JMR

The tax & spend drug war looks racist in the real world.

If Dubya wasn't H Dubya's

If Dubya wasn't H Dubya's son, would he have been going to Yale?

Bal, again this has nothing

Bal, again this has nothing to do with what I asked. Dont play ring around the rosie here. Just answer the question. Oh, and before you do, you might go back and review the one time Obama admitted it. And if your not smart enough to find it, dont bother me with it anymore.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

I disagree

JMR

The tax & spend drug war looks racist in the real world.

You said, "Bush did not go

You said, "Bush did not go as a part of a "quota". O went because he is black." My comment has everything to do with that statement.

I dont see how. Of course,

I dont see how. Of course, W went on his fathers dime. Its called tuition. It had nothing to do with what his race was. So, no, it did not address the question I asked. You just skirted it. As always.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

The point wasn't that H.W.

The point wasn't that H.W. paid for college. The point was that there is the possibility that W only got into Yale because his last name was Bush.

Now, maybe not. But there is that possibility. Just as there's a possibility that Obama would have gotten into Harvard if he was white.

Bal, you still havent

Bal, you still havent answered my question. You have only skirted it, talked around it, and changed the subject. As you always do. You cant answer the question honestly, without admitting it is true. So you dont answer. You just skip.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

Was he part of affirmitive

Was he part of affirmitive action?

I don't know. It's possible.

Without the quotas, would he have been there?

I don't know. It's possible.

Are you sure about that?

Are you sure about that?

Sheesh, Dems need to get their stories straight.

I'm honestly guessing you've forgotten the uproar when Biden and Bush used the word to describe Obama.

I certainly wouldn't want to think you were employing a convenient memory lapse.

  • LYDSEXICS UNTIE

Oh yeah! I did forget about

Oh yeah! I did forget about that. What a dumb non-story that was.

Definite non story

I agree it was a definite nonstory except for the reactions to what seemed simply a complimentary observation.

But at work we get a free subscription to "Diversity Inc", an online magazine.  Oh, the howls of "racism" that were attached to the word "articulate".

That, for me, was the first shot accross the bow that all words would henceforth be parsed and analyzed on a scale heretofore unknown to the noncommunist world.

  • LYDSEXICS UNTIE

Bal, no one ever claimed

Bal, no one ever claimed Bush was "articulate" or eloquent as they do for BHO.

Seems to me I remember people considered Bush "plain-spoken" or an "everyman", or if on the less than charitable left, an "idiot".

Not even Preseident and

Not even President and libs are already comparing him to Bush. Did someone peel off your "Change" bumpersticker.

AMEN! cn

and it's only June!!!!  146 days til Nov 4?  Did I count right?  How many more "tough ones" do you think they can come up with in that amount of time?  3???

They're pacing themselves -

They're pacing themselves - they don't want to be mistaken for a pack of wild dogs or anything...

so far, I see

no danger of that - lap dogs might be a better description ;-)

It depends on whether they demand an answer

Journalism is not just asking questions, it's also getting answers. If you pose difficult questions,  but you let the target completely evade answering your difficult questions, you really aren't doing any good.

  • As a case of good journalism, I refer to the most recent ABC debate, where Charlie Gibson asked Obama why he wants to raise the capital gains tax. After all, Gibson pointed out, every time we cut the tax, revenues rise. So why not cut the tax? Obama tried to duck, but Gibson pressed him. He forced Obama to explain himself, and Obama revealed that his motive was pure egalitarianism -- i.e., Obama just didn't feel it was fair that some people made a profit.
  • Now a conservative journalist would have pressed even further, asking Obama where he got the authority to use his feelings to distribute wealth? Or whether he intends to structure the tax system to produce an Obama-based view of who should keep their money? That would have been true hardball questioning. But give Gibson credit - he did his job well in that debate.

My only hope in this election is that Obama will be forced to explain himself, because when he has to explain, he's a complete disaster. When they let him ramble on with soaring rhetoric, he's fine. But when he was forced to explain his tax policy, he blurted out pure socialism. When he was forced to explain his foreign policy, it became clear that he has a schoolyard grasp of negotiation - just talk everything out. Have you ever heard him explain his positions on social issues, like gay marriage and abortion? He rarely explains that, but when he does, it's all stumbling ahs, uhs, you knows, and then he'll regurgitate catchphrases, a few more you knows ... and then an urgent appeal not to get bogged down in social values.

Make him explain himself, and he unravels like a Looney Tunes character.

Indeed, KCM

The upcoming debates (or town hall meetings) will be quite revealing.

Surrounded by criminals

Has anyone else noticed that this guy seems to surround himself with criminals?  Look at Rezko, now these 2 guys.  So the people he has "working" on his campaign are criminals, crazy anti-American pastors and ex-news reporters.  Insteresting.

The man's a Chicago politician

'Nuff said.

Yep

True that.

M and...do you notice how

few questions there are about these facts???  No journalism students checking the background or any msm mention whatsoever!

I still say if it were concerning McCain, it would be plastered all over the place 24/7.  The media's bias is showing again ('still' might be a better word)

Background checks

I know when I apply for a new job they do extensive background checks on me, apparently when you're helping a Democrat run for office, just saying your a liberal is all they really need to know, that and how much money you will be giving them.

We can only hope that this

We can only hope that this won't be the last tough question, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

I saw the Great One being interviewed by John Harwood on MSNBC this morning...

I (naively) assumed once he won the nomination, we might be spared those stupid, annoying signs (this was CHANGE). Even in a one-on-one sit-down interview situation, where it's totally inappropriate, he's gotta have one in the shot. It's such a sick crutch.

What I'd like to see is someone, anyone, in the media tell him enough with the branding, you're on OUR station, not your own. We'll use OUR ID, not yours. Like the old days.

We are just learning that he can't speak coherently without a prompter, but enough with these childish signs!

hopefully, this is a start

methinks the 'probama' media might not be so pro. maybe they're going to utterly destroy him so as to bring hillary back into the picture? i'd like to think that maybe the media is going to remember who they loved first and are simpy toying with barack

Gee....he's been getting caught flatfooted....
