NYT's Dowd: Hillary Has a History of Using Sexism as Cover for Her Mistakes

New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd said Sunday that Hillary Clinton blaming her campaign woes on gender bias is "poppycock" that is "very damaging to feminism," and that the former first lady "has a history of covering up her own mistakes behind sexism."

As this appears likely to be an important issue for Democrats to resolve in the months before Election Day, Sunday's "Meet the Press" devoted a great deal of time to the matter during its most recent installment (file photo right).

After showing some video clips of the Clintons separately discussing how sexism has been a part of the campaign, host Tim Russert said, "Maureen Dowd, misogynist, gender bias, it seems as though the Clintons are being, trying very hard to lay that out as a premise for Hillary Clinton's difficulties in this primary contest."

Dowd amazingly responded:

I think it's poppycock, really. I mean, Hillary Clinton has allowed women to visualize a woman as president for the first time in the way Colin Powell allowed people to visualize an African-American. And, she dominated the debates, she proved that a woman can have as much tenacity and gall as any man on earth. We can visualize her facing down Ahmadinejad. But, the thing is Hillary hurts feminism when she uses it as opportunism. And, she has a history of covering up her own mistakes behind sexism. She did it with healthcare. Right after healthcare didn't pass, she didn't admit she was abrasive or mismanaged it or blew off good advice or was too secretive. She said that she was a Rorschach test for gender and that many men thought of a female boss they didn't like when they looked at her. And now she's doing the same thing, and it's very, you know, in a way it's the moral equivalent of Sharptonism, it's this victimhood, and angry, and turning women against men, and saying that the men are trying to take it away from us. In the same way she's turning Florida and Michigan, and riling up and comparing them to suffragettes and slaves, and it's very damaging to feminism.

Fascinating, and makes one wonder not just how this is going to impact the elections in November, but also how typically feminist media members will cover this issue as the campaign progresses.

For instance, will press members who typically act as advocates on this subject support Hillary's view that sexism and misogyny kept her out of the White House? Or, will they play this down in order to assist Obama's need for women to vote for him on Election Day?

Seems a difficult tightrope for media to walk, doesn't it?

Democrats in general now

Democrats in general now have a history of using sexism and racism as a tool in the election. That's what it all comes down to, Maureen.

"Poppycock," indeed.

Maureen Dowd complaining about the sexism card?

This is so funny. And she even uses Sharptonism to do it. That's hysterical.

All the while she's doing this, there is no mention of the Sharptonism going on right now for Obama.

This is just plain awesome,

This is just plain awesome, as well as accurate.

NYT's Dowd - Hillary Clinton

Dowd is virulent anti-HRC, pro-Obama diatribe with an agenda to sabotage Sen. Clinton's campaign and swipe the nomination for Obama.  Dowd and NYT have interfered in, undermined, and subverted the Democratic presidential nomination process in an abuse and misuse of the freedom of the press and NYT's media power.

The anti-HRC, pro-Obama diatribe spouted by Dowd is all poppycock.  Sen. Clinton's campaign has encountered blatant sexism and misogyny.  In denying this and making false assertions, Dowd is simply consumed to the point of idiocy by her hatred of Sen. Clinton that knows no bounds. Sen. Clinton speaks truth to power in her fight for the future of America.

Dowd and the NYT are part of the pro-Obama media tyranny that Sen. Clinton is battling in her fight for America and all Americans.  This media tyranny is our democracy's worse enemy.

Rational Democrats need to support Sen. Clinton's campaign by making frequent contributions at HillaryClinton.com.

I can't stand Hillary crat3 - but I'm tempted to contribute

It's a tough call between her and McCain - I'm not sure who is worse. I know that Obama is the worst of the three and he is the only one of the three that will be given a free ride throughout his entire Presidency by the media.

I hope that some of you Clinton supporters are starting to see how dangerously bias, sexist and racist the media is.

Dee, hands down McCain is

Dee, hands down McCain is the lesser evil. He's at least somewhat conservative. Hillary, not at all. I'm tired of voting for the least objectionable candidate too, but a principled stand now could cost us dearly.

But by all means, contribute to Hillary. Keep the show going. I'd contribute, but I'm not a Democrat, much less "rational."

;^D

Dee Bunk states, "It's a

Dee Bunk states, "It's a tough call between her and McCain - I'm not sure who is worse." Huh?

Certainly, McCain is no conservative in many areas, but neither is he a socialist as is billary.

While I can see the two have issues that are like minded; there approach is nevertheless starkly in contrast. For example, global warming, regardless of how you and I think about this subject, they both believe it to be real. However, billary would demand, "taking your profits" meaning those of our oil companies (if you don't think of them as ours - look again at your IRA of 401k mutual funds). While McCain has proposed the ridiculous cap and trade as a solution at least it has a capitalist bent to it and will survive or fail on that basis. For example, the cap and trade that was established in Europe three years ago is an utter failure.

I await your thoughts on the matter . . .

ID and JD - I agree with both of you

I agree with more of McCain's policies but he's still horrible and really a Democrat and yet when the media are done with him, they'll have him painted as an extremist right wing nut. If by some miracle he is able to get the nomination, he'll never win a second one and we won't be able to put a conservative up.

If Hillary were to win (she won't either) but if, media woudn't treat her as harshly as McCain, but they would still be critical of her so she wouldn't be able to get stuff to go through as easily as Obama.

We'd have a better chance of getting house and Senate seats with Hillary in then with McCain in and then we could run a conservative in 2012.

It's all pointless speculation anyway. I've resigned myself to knowing that Obama will be in for 8 (I'll vote for McCain but it won't matter) and we just have to work as hard as we can with this election and every other to try and get Republicans elected.

We face an extreme uphill battle and have to figure a way to get our message past the filters of the MSM who always distort it. Sometimes it's intentional and sometimes just because they are ignorant, but either way it has the same effect.

Good luck with that

Unfortuantly for your girl Hillary, no Demo. can survive once they fall out of grace with the media. Cant be done. Their power is too great in your party.

But you can get revenge on them. And I think you know how.

With her thrice repeated

RFK comment- she has fallen out of favor with thousands of American voters and not just the media...She had lost before she pushed this out and was caught on tape.  Dowd is right in that she has used sex/gender to cover for her inability to acknowledge a fault or wrong vote including the media against her serial philandering husband...Fine example for our young women...Ugh!!!  ENOUGH

Ironic that a feminist bigot

Ironic that a feminist bigot like Dowd is able to see through the fog of propaganda.  She actually subtly threw out the idea which Ferraro floated against Obama (his race), in this case against Clinton.  Her only qualification is her gender. No other Dem (save the president of NOW) could have made such a charge given Dowd's feminist bonifieds.  What Dowd did is undercut Clinton's primary base of support, women.

Rationality, crat3, has little to do with the Dem nomination process, only emotional assertions.  It's clear that the media and print are willing to cut Obama some slack given his almost blank record of corruption and malfeasance in comparison to the Clintons. Of course, as a Clinton supporter I expect you to disagree.  I think most Dems are tired of holding their noses and desperately want a Dem candidate with clean hands.  This is Obama's appeal.  And this is why the Clintons are doing everything they can to expose Obama on the Rezko corruption issue. If they can taint him, then Obama is no different than Clinton, moral equivalence.   But not to worry, Clinton will win the Dem nomination, this is a certainty.

What I find interesting is Clinton's freudian slip with the June RFK assassination comment.  She fully expects Obama to be taken down by corruption charges by then. It would be irresponsible of her to plant the mental suggestion for some nutcase to off Obama.  So I don't think her hyperbole comment was intentionally directed.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, starving the poor one gallon of ethanol at a time. Fill your tank with E85 and cull a village.

See, this is what makes

See, this is what makes this such a great show. If the situation were reversed, Obama would be claiming racism hurt him. Then the media would have to decide if they would back him or downplay it, like they're doing for the sexism claims of Hillary. The Dems have played with the fire of pandering, and now they're getting burned. They're basically schisming along race/sex lines, and it's a beautiful thing. You could cut the irony with a knife.

Whoops, need more popcorn!

<Just btw, all these "-isms" being thrown around are all about DEMOCRATS! Just remember that!>

Oh this is rich coming from

Oh this is rich coming from Dowd, she has used sexism when it suits her, let alone Russert to-boot who declared the race over between Hill/Obama the other night, the intention of all of this is to slam Hillary once again...they have their messiah they have anointed...they are just adding more fuel to the fire today to get him in place...nothing new here..just more aggravation to me with these lefties...personally I don't care who wins.

Perpetual Victimhood wins my vote!

Gollum had his ring of power and Hillary has her victim card.  Imagine her pulling it out of a wallet and cradling it in her arms like a baby.

Hillary:   "My preciousssss!"

Remember her claim that an evil "vast right wing conspiracy" had it in for her and Bill?   Well, I think it's time she leveled an accusatory finger at the evil "vast LEFT wing conspiracy".  (Bill's finger would come in very handy here because it's much longer and more experienced.)

But let's look at the track records of these two vast and competing conspiracies:

Under the barrage from the Right, Billary enjoyed two presidential victories, skirted countless scandals that left thousands of ruined lives in their wake, survived impeachment, won a Senate seat, earned millions of dollars from books and public appearances and generally branded themselves as THE beloved Golden Couple with the golden touch...the best and brightest of their generation.

Under the barrage from the Left, they're Toast with a capital "T".

The Evil Vast Right Wing Conspirators are a bunch of pikers!
