For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: will unhappy female Clinton supporters back Obama?
If many of Mrs. Clinton’s legions of female supporters believe she was undone even in part by gender discrimination, how eagerly will they embrace Senator Barack Obama, the man who beat her? “Women felt this was their time, and this has been stolen from them,” said Marilu Sochor, 48, a real estate agent in Columbus, Ohio, and a Clinton supporter. “Sexism has played a really big role in the race.”...Cynthia Ruccia, 55, a sales director for Mary Kay cosmetics in Columbus, Ohio, is organizing a group, Clinton Supporters Count Too, of mostly women in swing states who plan to campaign against Mr. Obama in November. “We, the most loyal constituency, are being told to sit down, shut up and get to the back of the bus,” she said.
How serious might this be for Obama? Are there enough disenchanted female Hillary supporters to make a difference in key states? Or, will these folks put aside their differences for the good of their Party?

Depends
May 20, 2008 - 11:04 ET by MeanderingTo me it depends on how the rest of the primary plays out. Also, will Hillary support Obama when the inevitable happens and she loses the primary? I'm sure she will, but will it be too late by then? Too many questions to tell now, but one can hope that the Democrats implode on themselves leaving really no alternative.
Worry for the White House
May 20, 2008 - 11:54 ET by ChrisMillsYou're right, of course. The big worry we should have is if Hillary takes the #2 spot. Clinton supporters who were supporting her because of her gender would probably settle for first female vice pres. That's the only way this election works for the dems. Obama as nominee has already abandoned white working class and women. Clinton as nominee just stole the election from Obama and the whole party implodes with charges of racism and revenge taken against superdelegates up for re-election who supported Clinton. This is our best case scenario.
No to VP
May 20, 2008 - 13:11 ET by MeanderingI believe in an interview, Michele Obama already nixed Clinton as being VP, plus I don't think Hillary would play second fiddle to this guy anyway. I just can't believe people are so taken by this guy who won't say anything except "We need Change" and will not allow anyone to say anything about him or his loud mouth wife!
But... but... but....

"Michele Obama already nixed Clinton as being VP"
She did? Well, if the Dems are offering another "two for one," she should be fair game.

May 20, 2008 - 13:07 ET by PopularTechWhite Women, especially those over the age of 40 will not support Obama. Which is enough to seal his fate.

May 20, 2008 - 13:14 ET by Meanderingare turned off by Obama. The nice thing is sure he will get alot of people to vote for him, but they all live in California, New York and Illinois. That's only 3 states and hardly enough to get the presidency. I'm sure other liberal states will follow, but not nearly enough to win. He's distanced himself from too many of the people that make up the country.
SUCCESS IN IRAQ: A MEDIA BLACKOUT

May 20, 2008 -- DO we still have troops in Iraq? Is there still a conflict over there?
If you rely on the so-called mainstream media, you may have difficulty answering those questions these days. As Iraqi and Coalition forces pile up one success after another, Iraq has magically vanished from the headlines.
Want a real "inconvenient truth?" Progress in Iraq is powerful and accelerating.

Industry speakers said grain prices had risen due to a world-wide credit squeeze driving investment funds into commodities.

Women are to Obama as Evangelicals are to McCain
May 20, 2008 - 11:43 ET by GothampcI find this election interesting. The Evangelical Christians and some Conservatives are feeling disenfranchised from the GOP and the McCain nomination. Women are disenfranchised from Obama.
If an Evangelical woman was running, I bet she'd give McCain and Obama a real run for the money. Joyce Meyer? Paula White? Marilyn Hickey?
Good analogy.
May 20, 2008 - 11:47 ET by sarcasmoAnd there's an evangelical Christian who's definitely running for President this time whether or not the antilibertarian biased media wants to notice one-bit, but Chuck was cursed by being born with the wrong sex organs. :)

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy has a malignant brain tumor. Doctors for the Massachusetts Democrat say tests conducted after Kennedy suffered a seizure this weekend show a tumor in his left parietal lobe. Preliminary results from a biopsy of the brain identified the cause of the seizure as a malignant glioma, they said.
His treatment will be decided after more tests but the usual course includes combinations of radiation and chemotherapy.
The 76-year-old senator has been hospitalized in Boston since Saturday, when he was airlifted from Cape Cod after a seizure at his home.
His wife and children have been with him each day but have made no public statements.
His doctors said in a statement released to The Associated Press that he has had no further seizures, is in good spirits and is resting comfortably.
Malignant gliomas are a type of brain cancer diagnosed in about 9,000 Americans a year - and the most common type among adults. It's a starting diagnosis: How well patients fare depends on what specific tumor type is determined by further testing.
Average survival can range from less than a year for very advanced and aggressive types - such as glioblastomas - or to about five years for different types that are slower growing.

I understand that this will be a major battle for the Senator. So much so that his time as a legislator is very limited. Not because he will pass away soon, but I understand that he will spending most of his time being tested and then having an agressive treatment period. Is this correct?
"Abstain from McCain"
Probably
May 20, 2008 - 14:08 ET by JDWAs you probably know, these are most common in the primary central nervous system. Because of the late diagnosis, radiotherapy, chemo, and TMX would likely be ineffective. Chances are that his reactions will only grow worse.

Ted Kennedy's Tumor
May 20, 2008 - 14:01 ET by LCT688I can speak from some experience here in that this same tumor took both my mother-in-law and my brother. At the Senator's age and given that it is causing seizures it has most likely reached stage 4 or possibly stage 5, so the prognosis is probobly no more than 5 or 6 months. So inspite of my loathing for everything he stands for I would not wish this kind of suffering on him oranyone else.

May 20, 2008 - 18:53 ET by msh1973I think it all depends on who you talk with...I work with a couple of very liberal middle age women who hate Hillary (I am not kidding). Their opinion was that if Hillary got the nomination they would vote for McCain. They are thrilled that Obama is the likely pick. These two women think that Obama is the only person who can save the planet and restore America's place in the world. I am not making this up. Crazy!

May 21, 2008 - 01:22 ET by BDYeah, you really gotta wonder what the left thinks can be said to the thugs to get them to change their ways?
Tonight I listened to a typical wobbly wonder from Foggy Bottom talk on Fox who said that we MUST do face to face negotiation with the baddies - or nothing will change.
She was on CLintons Foreign Policy Team at the UN. (Weren't THEY terribly successful...Ha!)
What she (And all other Libs) fails to comprehend is that negotiation is only effective AFTER victory has been acheived.
Its like they have this terribly twisted view of what diplomacy is for. In effect, they see it as a way to PREVENT victory. Peace prevails at all costs and the US is preferably defanged.
