Olbermann Says Laura Ingraham and Mark Levin Hate Our Troops

Photo of Noel Sheppard.

It appears the New York Post's assessment that MSNBC's Keith Olbermann is on the verge of another professional meltdown was quite prescient.

On Monday's "Countdown," answering to criticism that his Special Comment last Wednesday about President Bush's "panoramic and murderous deceit" was so over the top that he should be suspended, Olbermann had the unmitigated audacity to claim those offended were showing "their instinctive hatred for, and contempt for" America's troops.

His targets: conservative commentators and stalwart supporters of the United States military including radio hosts Laura Ingraham and Mark Levin.

I kid you not.

What follows is the video of Olbermann's extraordinarily convoluted and Norman Bates-like explanation for his deplorable behavior last Wednesday as well as the transcript:

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

For those that couldn't stomach watching this cretin, here was the money section:

I cannot imagine that kind of evil knee-jerk reflex. I feel very sorry for those that have shown it. It seems to me these right-wingers have inadvertently shown their true colors, their instinctive hatred for, and contempt for those self-sacrificing Americans who have been needlessly placed in harm's way and the politicians they support. They hear criticism of our nation's collective conduct in Iraq, and they immediately assume it's the fault of the soldiers. In the wake of an insult that exists only in their minds and never in my words or in my heart, there remains I think only one question to ask: Laura Ingraham and Mark Levin, why do you hate our troops?

Amazing. Olbermann accused Laura Ingraham and Mark Levin, two of the strongest supporters of the war in Iraq and our military, of hating America's troops. This is how the most popular commentator on MSNBC responds to criticism that he has insulted the U.S. military.

Sounds like something a preschooler says on the playground, doesn't it?

I'm rubber, you're glue, whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you.

General Electric, NBC, and MSNBC must be very proud to have such a high-profile person in their employ. I frankly wonder how any American patronizes such companies.

For those that missed Ingraham and Levin's comments concerning Olbermann's disgraceful rant last Wednesday, they can be found here and here respectively.

As for you, Keith, it's time you took a vacation. A very long one.

Here's the full transcript. Pay particular attention to Olbermann blaming viewer confusion on editing:

Finally, as promised, a post-script tonight regarding last week`s Special Comment. You may remember Mr. Bush had used a cumbersome phrase to describe insurgents in Iraq, "cold-blooded killers who will kill people to achieve their political objectives." Last Wednesday, I quoted that phrase from the Politico.com interview to say that Mr. Bush had now also given America cold-blooded killers who will kill people to achieve their political objectives. I identified them as Mr. Bush`s personnel, quote, those in or formally in your employ, who may yet be charged someday with war crimes.

I also described the chaos of post invasion Iraq with an "American viceroy, enforced by mercellous mercenaries who shoot unarmed Iraqis and then evade prosecution in any country by hiding behind Mr. Bush`s skirts." No writer or broadcaster is ever as precise and clear as he thinks he is. Television goes by quickly and the viewers are not provided a copy of the script. So it is possible that reasonable viewers might have been confused by exactly to whom I referred, especially considering that I edited the original line, which was: "Mr. Bush, at long last, has it not dawned on you that the America you have now created includes cold-blooded killers who will kill people to achieve their political objectives? They are called your cabinet and your Pentagon."

During the editing process, it seemed that was a little broad, that there appear to be men in both of those places, General Ricardo Sanchez, former Secretary of State Colin Powell, perhaps even the new Secretary of Defense Mr. Gates, who did not merit inclusion in that list. Obviously, my use of Mr. Bush`s phrase, cold-blooded killers, did not refer to U.S. troops. I have never had anything but the highest respect for them and their sacrifice. This newscast constantly advocates their causes, their needs, our collective debt to them. And we constantly call out the administration on its failures to honor them, to protect them, to stop the Pentagon from sticking a band-aid on those whose hearts and minds are broken, and send them back for another tour.

The U.S. troops in Iraq, even those few who have done bad things there, are still victims in this equation, and most are the proverbial innocent bystanders. My use of Mr. Bush`s phrase, cold-blooded killers, referred not to the them, but rather to those former and current members of Mr. Bush`s administration and Pentagon who so irresponsibly unleashed the hounds of war and may indeed someday face war crimes trials.

And that phrase merciless mercenaries seemed to be self-explanatory. Neither are these U.S. troops, not when there are literally mercenaries in Mr. Bush`s employ, principally from Blackwater USA, who literally shot unarmed Iraqis, most infamously in a massacre in Baghdad last September.

Strangely, when the terms cold-blood killers and mercenaries were used in a public forum, my critics in the lunatic fringe, rather than even considering that the criticism even might be directed at the Pentagon or the administration or Blackwater USA, immediately decided that these were descriptions of our American heroes fighting in Iraq.

It is perhaps instructive, I think, that to the right wing commentators and right wing blogs those terms should first invoke not the war-mongers of the Pentagon, nor the gunmen from Blackwater, but U.S. troops.

I can not imagine that kind of evil knee-jerk reflex. I feel very sorry for those who have shown it. It seems to me that these right wingers have inadvertently shown then their true colors, their instinctive hatred for and contempt for those self-sacrificing Americans who have been needlessly placed in harm`s way by these very commentators and the politicians they support. They hear criticism of our nation`s collective conduct in Iraq and they immediately assume it`s the fault of the soldiers.

In the wake of an insult that exists only in their minds and never in my words nor in my heart, there remains, I think, only one question to ask: Laura Ingraham and Mark Levin, why do you hate our troops?

*****Update: Don't miss Johnny Dollar's view of Olbermann's explanation.

In the wake of an insult

In the wake of an insult that exists only in their minds and never in my words or in my heart, there remains I think only one question to ask: Laura Ingraham and Mark Levin, why do you hate our troops?

Who does this washed-up sports jockey think he's fooling with that last line?  Olbermann has become an incoherent, drooling self-parody.  Get the net.

"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it." -Ronald Reagan

I would love to see MAD

I would love to see MAD magazine do a "parody" on Olbermann. They wouldn't even have to parody it. Just do the spread with his actual quotes.

"Forget change, I want improvement!"

First, let me note that

First, let me note that Olberman has a gigantic ego, and no doubt wants to be some kind of modern-day Edward R. Murrow, which he can't do.

Second, let me see if I follow this argument by KO: He's saying that the cold-blooded killers are the people in his administration who sent the troops to war, right?

KO seems to thing dialing up the rhetoric will help his relevance. Not sure that's gonna do the trick.

No Amigo...

He is saying that those who volunteered to go to Bush's war are "cold blooded killers". Those would be the ones who did the killing, Bush hasn't killed anyone.

"There are two types of people in this country; those who provide freedom and those who enjoy it." MM says...

OK. I was trying to follow

OK. I was trying to follow his original comment, and wasn't sure I got it.

I don't think you did...

Numbnuts is basically saying "I wouldn't got to war and kill someone just because my country sent me". You probably share the same "feeling". Thank God millions of Americans don't think like you guys.

"There are two types of people in this country; those who provide freedom and those who enjoy it." MM says...

MM

"You guys"?

That was hard to watch!

Since I don't watch MSNBC and the demented Olberman, that was a tough video to watch.  Whenever I have seen this loudmouth jerk I just want to give him a slap!  I don't know why he tries to pull the wool over by telling how much he supports the troops.  We all know how the loony left supports the troops by their actions. Ha!

Olbermann, why do you hate America?  Why does the left hate America?  The left calls us racist at the drop of a hat so I am going to call them unpatriotic haters of America at every turn.  Liberals hate America!!!  Why??

Olbermann's Orwellian illogic

Olbermann vilifies our troops as "cold blooded killers," Laura Ingraham and Mark Levin justifiably condemn Olbermann in response, followed by Olbermann claiming that Ingraham and Levin hate the troops.

Nice try, Keith, but no one on the sane side of the aisle is buying it.

Keith, the accent is on the second syllable

I wonder if Keith's mispronunciation of Levin was on purpose - just to add another little tweak.

(Does Keith ever smile anymore?)

Second, let me see if I follow this argument by KO: He's saying that

the troops to war, right?

Olby is an egomaniac -- but I think he means the terrorists themselves, who he believes Bush has emboldened with the Iraq war -- they are killing for political ends etc. What Olby doesn't realize is that they killed for political ends long before the war, 9/11 for example.  He hates the military, that's for sure -- but he isn't stupid enough to baldly state it either. No good leftist ever reveals their hand -- hence, the reason for Obama's popularity.

liberals love towelheads and vice versa

Why do you think the looney left sucks up to the baby killing towel heads? Liberal imperative and the Koran both say to lie to your enemies. They have many more things in common but this is a solid one that allows both of them to admire and use each other.

off the deep end

Olbermann is a nut and always has been. NBC should be ashamed of itself.

I wonder if we should have

I wonder if we should have a Countdown for just how long Keith will last at msnbc.

I used to think at least until after the election...but....he is really losing it fast...the traitor to this country IMHO.

Hope does spring eternal.

THE FINAL MELTDOWN...

Hey bigtimer, you beat me to the punch, nice job. We can all start a pool and guess a date when his doomsday clock hits midnight.

As for what he actually said about Ingraham & Levin, & their "hating the troops", is the funniest thing I have ever heard him say. This includes his time at ESPN & FoxSports, the idea that Ingraham & Levin hate the troops, hell, throw in El-Rushbo, Hannity, Beck, Quinn & Rose, Boortz, & last but not least, BathTubBoy's favorite, O'Reilly have anything but the ultimate respect for our fighting men & women does'nt add up. When Rush, Ingraham, & O'Reilly went to visit Iraq & Afganistan, the soldiers love them & show their love for them.

They support our troops & the troops love their shows. They listen on Armed Forces Radio, by podcast, or online, & those in the military know who supports them & who does not. There is nothing BathTubBoy or the rest of the idiots in the MSM can do now to change that.

I believe what Olbermann is doing is a stunt, he's trying to get whatever attention he can get. He is trying to create controversy that means other media outlets will feel a need to cover him fighing with big-time radio hosts. Laura can be tough when she wants/needs to, she beat cancer, she can beat BathTubBoy. But Levin is a different animal(& I meant animal)he does'nt shy away from a political street fight, & if he really wants to take on Olbermann, Keith will really regret calling him out. Levin is the most ruthless debater I've ever heard when he's pissed off. I think he's pissed, & I just wonder if Olbermann understands what he is getting into? I also wonder if his bosses are keeping an eye on this developing situation? Keith will crash & burn over this if he's not very carefull. I hope that happens.

"...it's still We The People, Right?"  Megadeth

I believe what Olbermann

I believe what Olbermann is doing is a stunt, he's trying to get whatever attention he can get.

I agree with your assessment. He is like a little kid that acts out in ever more outrageous ways, looking for attention. People wonder why kids do it, because they end up being chastised. But to a child, even unfavorable attention is better than no attention at all.

This feigned outrage is a lot like Harry Reid and those other Senators claiming that Rush Limbaugh was the one villifying our soldiers with the "phony soldiers" comment.

As for the coming meltdown, maybe this should be Olbermann's new theme song.

Olbermoronn called American

Olbermoronn called American military personnel "victims".  If a better explanation of the "minds" of America-hating, U.S. military hating, leftist freaks like Olbermoronn exists, please let me know.

Proud to have had the priviledge to have served.

Speaking for myself I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve.  You really have to have your head firmly up your posterior to believe our troops are victims.

the Viet Nam playbook redux

CT this is about making comments while looking in the rearview mirror. When we had a million guys drafted and sent to Jungle Hell there was probably some merit to the idea of soldiers as victims of 'evil' politicians. Today's military is nothing like what we had (thank goodness). I am sure some guys decide this isn't what they thought it was and want out. There will even by guys who come to detest the military while serving. They are a miniscule number.

However...

Oberloon is still looking in the rearview mirror (along with Schumer and others). They just can't get off the Viet Nam playbook.

TE

Not just "victims", but "victims and innocent bystanders."

This guy is beyond contempt.

By the way, has K.O. ever taken a trip to Iraq or Afghanistan?

Give GE and NBC all the credit for Olbermann

For your consideration a previous post:

We should give Keith Olbermann all the publicity he can take.

May 17, 2008 - 22:45 ET by CT

All references to GE, NBC and MSNBC should include the Keith Olbermann Network.  Example "The Nightly News with Brian Williams on NBC, the Keith Olbermann Network".  All references to any and everyone associated with the employers of Keith Olbermann should be given credit for their association with Keith Olbermann at all times.  I wonder what effect this would have if it catches on.  How would you like to have your name mentioned in the same sentence with Keith Olbermann no matter what the circumstance?

I wonder who pays for Keith Olbermann's security???

Its a win win.

Olby makes a fool out of himself AND MSNBC at the same time.  That's a win win.

Olby is equal in seriousness and stature to an Air America retiree.

I can't wait to see his veins bulge out in his neck when McCain mops up the electoral college with Obama.

Anyone know

the best way to contact MSNBC and voice one's outrage? I can't seem to find an email address. Or should one contact NBC?

Anyone know

Ever heard the expression

Ever heard the expression "any publicity is good publicity"?  Outrage sells.  It creates the impression that there's "buzz" around the program.  The ad sales guys can go to the advertisers and demand more money for spots on his show...and, perversely, they just might get it.  Olberdouche and his handlers will use this controversy to get free (and uncritical) publicity in Vanity Fair, Playboy, Esquire, GQ, Letterman, the Daily Show, the various Flynt rags and all the usual media suspects...thus artificially driving the network's demands for more ad revenue.  Outrage expressed to MSNBC only makes their clown more relevant.

Bystander indifference, however, doesn't sell.  Like a spoiled little child who grows increasingly frustrated that nobody is paying attention to him, Olberdouche will eventually tire himself out from unanswered tantrums.  Meanwhile, we can enjoy watching his tortured descent into madness from afar.  After all, there's always the spoiled child, who, unwilling to go down quietly, inevitably takes it one step too far.  Then, the real amusement can begin.

Keith Olbermann is being

Keith Olbermann is being closely watched and every word he says is being noted. He will not be able to weasel around smart people like Ms. Ingraham and Mr. Levin. He got called out, his rationalization was punk speak, and he's gone further down the road to ruin he has been so unwittingly following.

Ram

Ram,

I agree. Between BOR, Beck, Boortz, Hannity, Ingraham, Levin, Prager, Savage, et al, the audiences they have will start putting a huge amount of pressure on MSNBC to get this guy canned. He's crossed the line now, and you could see it this evening.

Do GE and NBC want to go up against all right-thinking people in the nation over this scum? I don't think so. ns

You have to admit that his

You have to admit that his smug self-righteousness is simply precious, though.  I'm having a great time watching him come apart at the seams.

Are we sure

this dude is even human?

I never watch the guy, but the images and attempts at rational thought are starting to look a little suspect to me. I try to keep up with technology and all but are we sure this isn't some sort of man-made phantasm or something.

For that matter. Howard Dean? Now just how is it that a guy like that is considered a "leader"?

Sumthin' funny goin' on here.

Butt Boy

I never knew any gay guys when I was in the Corps and even then you woudn't know but, I KNOW THIS

Herr Lieutant Olbermann  is a  malicious faggot that embarrasess the gay community.

Tell you what Harry

and all the rest of us Marines (Parris Island Class of 1966), lets invite this little girl, herr' olbermann, to become a new recruit at our beloved Parris Island.

Within the first 15 minutes, our DI Boys would have this little sissy crawling on the ground, hugging their ankles and begging to go home to his mommy. What a pitiful little pussy he (maybe she) is.

On second thought, I would never allow this little coward to disgrace the hollowed ground that so many young men and women trained upon so that they could go into the belly of the beast and die for the right of this little bast.... to spew the kind of liberal, traitorous puke that he spews every day. This from a little coward that is supporting politicians that want to shut down the freedom of speech of our Conservative Radio hosts AND Fox News so they can establish a news system that will make Pravda look like a Sunday School Picnic.

I better quit before I lose my Christianity entirely.

His bomb blew up

Many of us have said that Olbermann makes his living by mocking people and throwing sensationalist media bombs. Media bombs only work when they have some core of shocking truth, but Keith has an hour-long bombthrowing show to fill five nights a week. There just aren't that many bombs to throw that have any core of truth. So, Keith has a choice.

  • He can either throw fewer bombs (which he won't do because he needs them to retain the small audience he has), or
  • He has to forget about truth and just throw whatever's available. The problem is that without truth, media bombs blow up as soon as you light the fuse.

Olbermann ran out of truth a long time ago, if he ever had it in the first place. His bombs have been duds, so all he has to throw is manufactured, self-serving "outrage." A low-rated TV host, during a time of war and when soldiers are in harm's way, yelling at the president to "shut the hell up," shows a stunning, self-indulgent ignorance. And yet, this ignorant jackass presumes to tell us what's going on the world. It is inevitable that he'd do himself in. I just hope the blast cleans out that smug and narcissistic echo chamber he has on his show. We can all survive better without the snarky witticisms from Dana Milbank, Richard Wolffe, Jonathan Alter, and the unbearable Rachel Maddow.

Is this "Special Comment" the one that gets him? Probably not, but it's getting closer and closer. One, maybe another, but that'll be it. Good riddance.

KC...

That was a 1 minute rant, I thought he was gonna have a stroke on the air. He loves hearing himself talk, but I wonder if he watches his work afterwords? I bet he does, & tries to top his "rage" the next time out.

The show will be boring when the Error America host Ms.Maddow takes over, but at least the makeup costs will go way down. Saving them money.

Olbermann ran out of truth

What?

In about the first 15 seconds he was on PMSNBCLSD?

What's scary...

Consider the bumper sticker I saw at the airport the other day:

"Thank God For Keith Olbermann"

But, to underscore the intelligence (or lack thereof) of the car owner, note that this was adjacent to a bumper sticker that whined that "When Bush took office gas was $1.45 a gallon" and my favorite "Have enough?  Vote Democratic!"

One, if you can fit your political philosophy onto a bumper sticker, your political philosophy is probably not worth having (h/t to acaiguana) and two, if you admit to watching Keith Olbermann in such a manner as outlined above, you probably aren't very bright to begin with.

Res tantum valet quantum vendi potest.

K.O.

It's easy for real people to delineat between Keith Olbermann and Bill O'Reilly - O'Reilly is for the folks. Herr Olbermann is for the elitists.

He is, unavoidably, a piece of sh!t. Not, a PC POS, the guy is simply, a very small, very tiny, very smelly, very ball-less, piece of sh1t. His handlers at GE and Herr Immer whatever, ain't gonna change NBC's anti-American mind-set.

Keith finally lost it...

He's nucking futs!

We are observing the complete meltdown and self-destruction of Keith Olbermann.

First, his off-camera tantrum during the Primary coverage last Tuesday, followed by his girlyesque snit the next evening, which drew the brillant volleys from Ingraham and Levin the Great. Keith was unable to stomach the criticism that he loves to dish out and he has the weakest response of all time by asking if they hate the troops.

Completely limp.

Drill ANWAR

partial repost from an earlier thread

Every war, EVERY war, since the founding of this country has been authorised and funded by the duly elected members of congress and run by a duly elected President. This war was no exception.

The 535 members of congress authorised this war with information THEY had at hand, both classified and not, at the request of the President.

There has been 2, count them, 2 elections since the start of this war, new members have been voted in, and other members including the President have been reelected and reseated. And they both the new and old, keep funding this war year after year.

We are in the process of funding the Iraq war again right now. This funding will last through the final days of this Presidency.

So Olbermann has all this abundant evidence of duplicity by President Bush and his cabinet. Yet the current Congress ignores it and keeps funding the war. Hmmm, somthing ain't right. Is it the 535 members of congress or is it Olbermann?

The day Olby realizes who he is...

I forsee him committing suicide via drugs or alcohol or both. This is a dead soul. When GOD refers to "the dead" in the Bible, He is not talking about cadavers...He is speaking of individuals like Olby...very much alive, but quite dead, indeed.

If I was Blowberman's boss, I would ask him and his psychotic ass to cover a poker tournament...IN SIBERIA...WEARING A SPEEDO AND NOTHING ELSE!

This is propaganda pure and simple. KO is doing what propaganda ministers have done down through history. He's casting his own evil onto other people to take the heat off of himself. "See? I might be bad but they're worse."

"Anyone know the best way to contact MSNBC and voice one's outrage? I can't seem to find an email address. Or should one contact NBC?"

Bypass the media people and go straight to the corporate folks at GE (www.ge.com). A word of caution: Apparently, these people have received so many e-mails that they have manipulated their e-mail addresses when you click on the links. For example, Joe Schmoe might have his e-mail as jschmoe@ge.com.com or jschmoe@ge.com.co. You'll have to delete the extra letters so that you have just jscmoe@ge.com. I had several e-mails rejected before I realized this.

CONGRESSIONAL TERM LIMITS!!!

Real life

Remember the movie Network? The story is between Max, an old-fashioned reporter (William Holden), and Diana, a freakish child of television (Faye Dunaway). At one point, Max explodes at Diana:

“Like everything you and the institution of television touch is destroyed! You are television incarnate, Diana, indifferent to suffering, insensitive to joy.  All of life is reduced to the common rubble of banality.  War, murder, death are all the same to you as bottles of beer.”

Like Diana, Olbermann is a creature of television. He treats real life merely as material for his act, his shtick. You wonder if he knows the difference. He runs his mouth off, blaring that Bush created cold-blooded killers to assassinate political enemies. And even if we take him at his untrustworthy word, and pretend that he was merely referring to the Pentagon, this bonehead doesn’t see anything wrong with accusing the Pentagon of being cold-blooded political murderers. As if it’s obscene to call a sergeant a killer, but it’s OK to say the same against a general?

Logic has left the building.

Insanity

"Communism is a form of insanity..." Reagan said, but I think substituting the word "liberalism" would be fitting..."Olbermentia" would also work.

This man's a psychopath.

This man's a psychopath. Who at MSNBC thought it was a smart thing to elevate this flunkie to the level of journalist? He's absolutely mentally unstable. What an embarrassment to the American people. I can't wait for Mark Levin to address this lunatic's remarks.

I think this is matter of

I think this is matter of respecting the armed forces. Olbermann is one of those radicals who have no respect for the troops, thinking that they joined the military as a social/jobs program and were unprepared for going to war. He, like all his "elitist" friends, think our brave men and women are all dumb hillbillies who didn't know any better. He has no respect for their decision, their intelligence, training, preparation, skills, patriotism, or their commitment to serve. He doesn't understand them, wouldn't do what they do and transfers his lack of understanding and resolve onto them. It is the depth of disrespect and ignorance.

Nail on the head stuff

Amen to that

CONGRESSIONAL TERM LIMITS!!!

I know people just like him
