What is it about Hollywoodans that makes so many of them believe that any time political leaders they revere get caught in a scandal, it's because of some vast conspiracy?
While you ponder, consider how just days after "View" co-host Joy Behar suggested that Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama's pastor "might be being paid by the Republicans," film director Spike Lee said, "It looks like [Rev. Jeremiah Wright's] being paid to keep talking."
I kid you not.
As reported by Britain's Guardian Thursday (emphasis added, h/t Deceiver via NBer bias-fighter, picture courtesy New York magazine):
"Jeremiah Wight needs to be quiet," Lee said yesterday. "If he loves Obama he needs to shut up right now. It makes me question his motives for talking. I'm starting to wonder whether somebody has been contributing to the building funds of his church. Seriously."
Honestly, you can't make this stuff up.

So, what does this say
May 3, 2008 - 18:45 ET by Indiana JoeSo, what does this say about Lee's opinion of Wright? If he truly believes that Wright would sell his long-time parishoner down the river for "30 pieces of silver," he must not have much faith in Wright's principles. In fact, he would have to consider Wright something of a charlatan.
And if Wright is so unprincipled, what does that say about someone who bought into his spiel for over 20 years? The word "gullible" comes to mind.
No matter how you slice it, it doesn't reflect well on a would-be President.

May 3, 2008 - 19:14 ET by balboaI think the last thing Obama expected was for Wright to suddenly start showing up at all kinds of public events, sounding even more crazy.
Has anyone asked Wright if he thinks he's helping Obama and if that's a concern?

May 3, 2008 - 19:59 ET by FranksamI think the last thing Obama expected was to have anyone question his 'incredibleness'. Both Hillary and the Barackoid thought that they were so special they would not face scrutiny. Oops. I guess Wright thinks about 'heppin' his own sef''.

WHAT A DOPE...
May 3, 2008 - 19:36 ET by danybhoyThis is sad, Spike Lee is a talented & creative guy, but he is nuts. He seems to latch onto conspiracy theories at ever turn, & that to me is the sign of a weak mind. I'll throw Oliver Stone under the bus with him while I'm at it, there is always something more then what is on offer the way these guys tell it.
Lee & Stone are not far removed from all of the nutjobs in the middle east who buy into every conspiracy rumor that gets spread. Since these people are usually not well educated & have media sources that give them little in the way of real news & information, it is no hard to figure out. But guys like Lee & Stone are not like that. They have plenty of access to all of the information the free press has to offer, so I have to wonder if they believe what they are pushing, or if they are doing it for the money. Not everything that happens is part of a conspiracy folks, there are very few things that happen like that. Usually the biggest conspiracies, when they happen, take place right out in the open, in plain sight. Many people are too dim to figure that out.

Conspiracy Theories and Stereotypes
May 4, 2008 - 00:49 ET by geoff.galeConspiracy theories are very similar to stereotypes - they both substitute for having to examine complex circumstances, issues or people and form original conclusions about them. They save those who use them the pain of confronting magical beliefs about the world that carry some special meaning for them.
They're both psychological shortcuts that while holding one foot in reality, allow the self-centered person to wallow in their most indulgent fantasies like a pig in a muddy sty on a hot summer day.

They gotta blame somebody other than themselves.
May 4, 2008 - 07:00 ET by StephCIf they don't it blows the whole cover off the special interests groups. Imagine if a black man or a woman, gets elected president. A lot of people stand to lose a lot of money. If they lose, it keeps victimology politics rolling and raking in the green because they can blame the losses on racism and sexism. If they win... well...
I suppose that's why they are spending an inordinate amount of time trying to build up a new victim class from illegal immigrants, as a contingency plan. However, the ringleaders of the "black community" and "women's rights" would still be out of jobs, wouldn't they? They'd practically have to start over to build a power base within the new class, wouldn't they?
it's me!
May 4, 2008 - 20:04 ET by ort777I have to admit, I'm paying Wright to Bash Obama. I can't believe it took so long for someone to figure it out. The thing is, he was cheap. It only took $10! You'd think he'd need more than that to build such a fine house living next to "RICH WHITE PEOPLE"!
