When it comes to news, much as comedy, timing is everything -- and it's clear the good folks at the New York Times don't have it.
On Saturday, the Times published an op-ed by graphics director Charles M. Blow carping and whining about the now infamous Democrat presidential debate broadcast on ABC Wednesday, and, in particular, that no time was spent talking about climate change.
Well, Charles, maybe that's because in an ABC poll that was embargoed until 11:35 PM Thursday, exactly ZERO respondents felt global warming was the single most important issue in their choice for president.
Zero!
Alas, that didn't prevent Blow from blowing his top concerning the matter (emphasis added, h/t Chris Horner):
The League of Conservation Voters, an environmental watchdog group, reports that in the debates in which five Sunday-morning television anchors — George Stephanopoulos, Tim Russert, Wolf Blitzer, Chris Wallace and Bob Schieffer — have participated (17 in total) and in their major interviews with the candidates (176 in total) only eight of the 2,372 questions asked have mentioned global warming or climate change.
That omission is baffling because the environment has become a big issue for Americans. Nearly 6 in 10 people responding to a Pew Research Center poll in January said that protecting the environment and dealing with energy problems should be top priorities.
Well, but as the Competitive Enterprise Institute's Myron Ebell wrote me concerning this matter (with permission):
The 6 in 10 Pew poll result cited as evidence is nearly all based on worries over high gas prices. Count me as among the 6.
Me, too. But I digress:
Apparently, the moderators didn’t get the message. Instead they revived a more trivial issue, allowing a question that called Mr. Obama’s patriotism into question for not wearing a flag pin on his lapel. Better to have tied patriotism to the environment and ask whose global warming plan will best ensure that no one will ever have to go to Lower Manhattan and point to the spot in the water where ground zero used to be.
Ummm, maybe they DID get the message, Charles -- from their OWN POLLING!!!
Instead, it is clearly YOU that didn't get the message publishing this piece on Saturday DESPITE what ABC revealed Thursday evening.
As CEI's Chris Horner wrote me:
I wonder if this guy is able to feel silly. If so, now's a good time.
Hehehe.

I'll just bet you a "new study" will be reported by the NYT indicating that our demise from Global WArming is now "even closer than expected!!" Honestly, these alarmists are like children. When they think they're not being listened to (and they're not!), they scream even louder!

April 19, 2008 - 12:14 ET by ThisnThatActually, I've heard the NYT is working on how to word a poll that shows the NYT is increasing in popularity and readership!
As for this poll, all it does is give the MSM its talking points until November -- slam the economy; link the economy to Bush; link Bush to McCain; and suppress any and all positive stories coming out of Iraq.

The polar bear economy must be doing well...
Seriously, the holes punched in the Globull Warming Scam are big enough to pitch a barbecued polar bear through. Even the liberal CBC, Canada's PBS, is reporting it.

Pelosi/Gingrich--Sharpton/Robertson
April 19, 2008 - 12:40 ET by iveseenitallHave you seen the "commercials" on the couch at the beach? Now Pelosi and Gingrich have joined the other two making fools of themselves about "Global Warming". Looks like anyone will do anything to get face time. But what's new? On the serious side, hold on to your wallets. The "elites" are not giving up on this canard. They seem to know instinctively that there's a sucker born every minute and that there's plenty of bucks to be made fooling many of the people much of the time.

April 19, 2008 - 13:02 ET by okiehawk44Newt and Nancy should tell us the level of their respective investment in the new global warming histeria. These are two of the "elites" that look down on the rest of us because they are worth millions and believe the rest of us are suckers. Newt and Nancy are not on opposite sides when money is to be made. They buy into the old saying "...you can never be rich enough..." I'll wager that N&N are in up to their necks with Algore et al in the business side of "climate change" (aka global warming or global cooling in the '70s or holes in the ozones layers in the '80s) and don't really believe the crap they are slinging.

What I find most astounding
April 19, 2008 - 14:23 ET by NL207What I find most astounding is that vast numbers of liberal nincompoops like Blow actually believe that Mankind can exert some kind of control over the climate of this planet. The magnitude of hubris and ignorance demonstrated by this belief never ceases to amaze me. Our ability to affect the climate has been so slight as to nearly defy the power of modern metrology to measure it. All that man has done on this planet to date cannot have exceeded 0.9 degree K, and when known natural causes are accounted, certainly does not exceed 0.45 K.
Have faith, us heretics (Skeptics) are making progress.
