Thursday evening, the New York Times' Kate Phillips published at that paper's Caucus Blog a 1998 picture of President Bill Clinton shaking Rev. Jeremiah Wright's hand (right, courtesy of NYT).
In her posting, Phillips said the photograph was provided to her by the Obama campaign.
Given all the controversy surrounding this hateful pastor, and how it has negatively impacted the junior senator from Illinois' standings in the polls, a number of questions are raised:
- Is this a sign of desperation from the Obama campaign?
- How will media cover this?
- Knowing that this picture came from the Obama campaign, should the Times have published it? Isn't the Times acting as a leak conduit?
- Is this actually news? After all, this wasn't Clinton's pastor of 20 years. Is this a red herring, and the Times is being duped?
Something else to consider is that this picture was taken at an annual prayer breakfast with a large group of clerics at the White House. Should Clinton or his advisers vetted all of the religious figures present for hateful sermons, or does that seem rather absurd?
If the answer is "no," then how would Clinton have known what this pastor stood for, and, as such, why is this picture at all relevant?
Once again, with all the focus on this pastor, it's going to be fascinating to see how media handle this story.

Regarding the Obama "race" speech: It was a justification for black racism by the "uniter" himself. Never did he apologize for Rev. Wrong. Never did he say to white people--"sorry 'bout that". No. Just stories about him and his blackness. You know, my wife and I, as white "folks", have life stories too. We know that our families were always required to work and fend for themselves without "programs" like Affirmative Action, welfare, etc. We know that we've had a grandfather who was murdered working as a night watchman on a second job. We know we had a grandfather who labored 7 days a week and never complained, never committed a crime, never took drugs. We know we had fathers who served in WWII and then dedicated the rest of their lives to one wife and their children. We know--and we wonder why certain "others" can't do the same in today's world. It's a tacit admission that Wright is a monster AND it keeps the outrage front and center while not harming the Clintons one iota. Clinton shakes hands with thousands of people he doesn't know. Every politician does.
Obama isn't ready to coach pee-wee football, let alone command our armed forces.
What's next? Is he going to spend all his campaign cash trying to make Wright and Farrakhan look like good guys?

Edward Peck and the old testament. Fox News edited it for sensational value or maybe it was Ickes...Regardless, 'fair and balanced' is caught out again and you are perpetuating a lie.
