We're getting this one started early for those of you (like me!!!) that have the day off. Other than Duke-Belmont yesterday, I found it a boring start compared to years past. Anybody agree?
On the other hand, in the past few years, many of the best upsets occurred on the first Friday. So, maybe today will be better (full brackets after the jump):

March 21, 2008 - 13:04 ET by Roger the ShrubberI see quite a bit of red in the stands. Must be nice for Davidson to be playing so close to home, huh?

You should see the most beautiful color in the world "Carolina Blue" later tonight.

Davidson
March 21, 2008 - 13:53 ET by ricklailI was born and raised not too far from the Davidson campus. When I was a teen I got to go to a Davidson/DOOK game. Davidson had a player named Terry Holland and was coached by Lefty Drissell. Several years ago I got to meet Terry Holland and talk with him about those years at Davidson at an East Carolina baseball game. He is now AD at ECU. What a classy individual. I've have always been a Tarheel but there is a special place in my heart for the Wildcats.

Gaels
March 21, 2008 - 12:40 ET by Noel SheppardFolks,
Very exciting moment for my neck of the woods as the St. Mary's Gaels are in the tourney. Small, private, upscale school about ten miles away from where I live.
Although I have no connection (Cal Bear), it's still pretty cool because I know a lot of people that went there. ns
cool noel!
March 21, 2008 - 12:49 ET by candanceSorry I can't root for them (Miami is in my conference) but good luck!

The First Weekend
March 21, 2008 - 13:24 ET by BeanManI love the first weekend of the tourney. Anything can and does happen. My school lost to Texas A&M last night. I'm a big fan but wasn't surprised. Losing in the first round is a habit of theirs.
I am officially rooting for all of the underdogs. It is my fervent hope that no #1 seed gets into the FF.

It was a struggle early but they regained their footing and shut down a pretty high-powered offense (avg 82 pts a game, held to 56).
...and thank you Kansas State for (by seeding) making the path to the sweet 16 a little easier.

Sporting News and the Heels
March 21, 2008 - 14:08 ET by ricklailI just got back in from the mailbox. While walking back, I was scanning this week's Sporting News. All season long they have not had much good to say about my Heels. They don't even give them the chance of making the final four. I hope now more than ever that the Heels go on to win the national championship. I would sure like to rub their noses in it. The writers there are out of it as bad at "The General."

The chart
March 21, 2008 - 14:26 ET by ChaitealoverThe chart would be more interesting if Round one teams of the South and West divisions were not covered by ads. I've noticed that sort of thing before, why does it happen? I tried adjusting the font, but that doesn't change the appearance. I use Firefox, but I also looked at it on Internet Explorer and it was the same.

March 21, 2008 - 18:19 ET by bigtimerI can't see the whole thing either Noel...also adgardener or whatever this new ad you guys have here is all kinds of trouble for me today too...driving me batty.
I'm not PC savvy...but I have never ever seen anything like this today since the beginning of my tenure here.
Just throwing that out there...
I have pop-up off, still goes boink boink...click click...tried it with it on too...really weird.

Anyway
March 21, 2008 - 21:27 ET by ChaitealoverI tried all sorts of things but couldn't make it any better, I'll ask my son-in-law to look at it tomorrow. My new laptop has Vista, maybe that's my problem.
But, actually, it doesn't matter so much any more because
USD BEAT UCONN AND IS CLEARLY VISIBLE IN THE SECOND ROUND!

March 21, 2008 - 18:07 ET by nkviking75Yes, it was, but as an Iowan, I'm disappointed Drake lost. I have a feeling Keno Davis will be bringing more teams in the future.
My alma mater, Belmont, also lost by one and nearly knocked off Duke.
An exciting but disappointing couple of days for me.

March 21, 2008 - 20:15 ET by ricklailFound out last year that a high school classmate of mine is a professor at Belmont. His name is Douglas Murray.

March 21, 2008 - 23:07 ET by RESTLESS 1I'm 18 of 28 as well. I can only hope the later rounds save my ass. I've been beaten by two or three buzzer beaters today. Good games, I was just on the wrong side of too many.

March 22, 2008 - 07:30 ET by ricklailIt is CLEM'S SON! For 23 years I worked for DOOK Power. Ten of those years I worked plant maintenance. Three times a year we had to go there for shutdowns at Oconee Nuclear plant. I had to live around those idiot fans for 6-8 weeks at a time. That is why I hate CLEM'S SON so bad.
