The heck with 3:00 AM ads cautioning Americans about who's more qualified to be in the White House answering fictitious emergency phone calls.
What this country really needs is a national television campaign warning folks about the dangers inherent in global warming policies advocated by Nobel Laureate Al Gore.
Just in the nick of time, the conservative Competitive Enterprise Institute announced Tuesday the release of an ad destined to thrill climate realists around the world:
Today the Competitive Enterprise Institute launches a national advertising campaign, focusing on the threat to affordable energy posed by Al Gore’s global warming agenda. The ads contrast Gore’s energy-consuming lifestyle with the life-and-death need for energy in developing countries.
CEI’s new campaign comes in the face of Gore’s March 1st announcement of a major new set of ads from his Alliance for Climate Protection to promote the global warming issue. CEI’s response includes both a broadcast television ad and related online video.
“Global warming activists warn us about the alleged threats from global warming, but are usually silent about the much more immediate threats from global warming policies,” said CEI General Counsel Sam Kazman, also the ad co-creator. “Restricting access to affordable energy is a sure recipe for increasing poverty, disease and human misery around the world.”
Climate realists will also enjoy two recent videos created by CEI regarding this issue:

better yields of ethanol from the crop.
Apparently there is an enzymatic process using the whole
corn plant, leaves, stalks and all, that will yield 10 gallons of ethanol for
every 1 gallon of petroleum used in the process. This is compared to the
current 1 petroleum gets you 1.3 ethanol ratio. Brazil, which is supposed to be the
“model” ethanol production system, has a 1 to 8 ratio using sugar cane.
These Econuts and Global Warming buffoons are going about it
all wrong. The bottom line for me is I could care less what my car runs on or
where my power comes from as long as it cuts out the Muslim (and throw in Chavez
for good measure) connection. If you told me I’d be paying $2.80 a gallon for
fuel but it would be relatively price stable and not dependent on a group of
people wearing head towels I’d be all for it.
Sell the economics; the dollars and cents (actually, sense …
which the Gorites have none of) rather than the damned carbon credit or save
muddy the mud skipper scams.

Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to eat the corn and use real, abundant, natural sugar beats as a growth medium for the ethanol-producing bacteria? After all, it's the sugars in the corn that is being converted, not the cellulose. Turning pure sugar into ethanol is a simple process that we have been using for centuries. It's time to use it again, don‘t you think?
Beet sugar is cheaper to produce, is far more efficient, and gives high yields per acre with a lot less additional maintenance like needing to add fertilizers. Corn production actually strips the soil of vital nutrients and natural fertilizers while sugar crops do not. Hundreds of tons of artificial fertilizers must be used to produce the corn every season. All we need is soil, water, air, and sunlight to grow sugar. Let's use the best material available and stop waiting for some "miracle" process that may or may not actually work some time in the future. The sugar crops work NOW!

It's about time someone got the "other side" of the story out.
I have been trying to find the article I read some time ago, but I guess I need advanced Lexis/Nexis to locate it.
It was about environmentalists etc. who don't want electricity brought to African villages, because they think that would pollute their cultures. They think it's better for them to remain poor, dumb and supposedly happy in their "natural," primitive lives.
Does anyone else recall reading about this, and where?
Update: This isn't the article I originally saw, but it provides a good example of similar mindset, this time in India: Damning Development

Heartening
March 12, 2008 - 21:28 ET by acumenYes Noel, it's reassuring on a certain level to see the demedia-driven "consensus" challenged in a way it seemed academics and professionals were too intimidated to do just a year ago. As always, the activists overplay their hand, the resentment reached critical mass and the cracks began to emerge.
The problem is even the White House still finds it neccessary politically to appease the Bali-boneheads. This representative Bali-bonhead is very telling of where her little green heart lies -- “A climate change response must have at its heart a redistribution of wealth and resources,” said Emma Brindal, a climate justice campaigner coordinator for Friends of the Earth. It's a forced global tax masquerading as emotional concern for Mother Earth.
Now onto that other "consensus" -- That Her Highness is entitled to the Presidency...

March 12, 2008 - 23:46 ET by R D HelmNo sh*t, take a gander at his so-called "site."
All he has done is assemble every left-leaning article he could find that supports his position. I am guessing that, in his limited way of thinking, only those who half-think and half-read would be impressed by any of it, and given the number of the articles that were "saved," there were more than a few of those.
The only thing that is even remotely interesting is the number of articles he has assembled. This indicates obsessive-compulsive behavior to me.
As for anyone he might remind me of, it is either Dave High (who I easily, well, you know) or else he is Professor Twaddle.
In any event, this clown is a total and complete fraud, which, as PT pointed out, just might explain his absence from this thread.

March 12, 2008 - 23:17 ET by yruymiGlobal warming appears to be a direct effect of the shrinking numbers of pirates since the 1800s. A graph of the approximate pirate population versus the average global temperature over the last 200 years clearly illustrates a statistically significant inverse relationship between pirates and global temperature.
I’ve been giving this some thought today. Obviously, we need more pirates. Its the only rational solution. Government pirate subsidies are long overdue. Degree programs in Pirate Studies at any university receiving federal funds should be mandated as well?
If you're looking for a meaningful, vital cause, this pirate/climatology movement may be just the thing. Al Gore missed the most inconvenient of truths when he missed the Pirate Connection.
I shall begin wearing an eye patch this very day in a show of support.
Ayy, More Pirates matey!
March 13, 2008 - 07:24 ET by planetrepublicanWell there are a growing number of pirates off the Somalia coast. I suggest we round up all the liberals, especially the ones belonging the Religion of Earth Warmers, especially Algore, and send them to Somolia. They are "enlightened" fellows so I am sure the people of Somolia will welcome them with open arms. These "special people" can use the Code Pink girls as their new "army", defending them with shrill voices and enlightened "reason" of peace and love; and of course these new "pirates" will not have guns, God forbid. They can all live in harmony living the pirate life, bashing the US and GW Bush, and be very happy. The Global Warming gods will be appeased by the new number of pirates and let us all live in peace.

Ah, yes, the "cure-all" carbon offsets!
March 13, 2008 - 10:13 ET by Indiana JoeI've been waiting for a chance to use this:
"To address the inescapable emissions associated with the DVD, News Corporation has entered into an agreement to purchase high-quality carbon offsets from a wind farm project in India.
"These offsets have been verified by an independent expert third party (Det Norske Veritas, a reputable carbon project verifier) and accredited under a recognized program, the Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS). The Voluntary Carbon Standard was developed by the Climate Group, the International Emissions Trading Association and the World Economic Forum.
"We will permanently retire these carbon offsets, removing them from circulation in the carbon market. The amount of carbon associated with retired offsets will be equivalent to or more than the emissions associated with the... DVD release."
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but the point here seems to be that, since they gave money to some wind-farm in India, it's like the pollution they produced didn't count?
Truly a "bizarro-world" (ahem) "solution."

It seems rather odd the CEI would use an attack ad, with a chunk of it focused on personality, rather than getting a good spokesman working either the benefits or the left-wing conspiracy to control your lives.
