On Monday, while speaking at the 2008 International Conference on Climate Change being held in New York City, Coleman took his criticisms further by advocating that all those involved in the sale and marketing of carbon credits, including Al Gore, should be sued "to finally put some light on the fraud of global warming.”
As reported over at the Business & Media Institute by my colleague Jeff Poor (emphasis added throughout, h/t to many):
Coleman also told the audience his strategy for exposing what he called “the fraud of global warming.” He advocated suing those who sell carbon credits, which would force global warming alarmists to give a more honest account of the policies they propose.
“[I] have a feeling this is the opening,” Coleman said. “If the lawyers will take the case – sue the people who sell carbon credits. That includes Al Gore. That lawsuit would get so much publicity, so much media attention. And as the experts went to the [witness] stand to testify, I feel like that could become the vehicle to finally put some light on the fraud of global warming.”
How delicious. Of course, for those that are interested, Nobel Laureate Gore was invited to speak at this conference -- was even offered his normal fee to attend! -- but refused. As reported Monday by Anthony Watts, one of the conference speakers (emphasis added):
I was surprised to learn that Al Gore had been offered an opportunity to address this conference, and his usual $200,000 speaking fee and expenses were met, but that he declined.
I also know that invitations went out to NASA GISS principal scientists Dr. James Hansen, and Dr. Gavin Schmidt weeks ago as evidenced by their writeup of the issue on their blog, RealClimate.org a week or so ago.
They have declined the formal invitation sent, even though it would be easy for them to attend, given that NASA GISS is located just a few blocks away at Columbia University.
Since recent polls indicate that about 50% of Americans remain unconvinced that global warming is a serious issue, it would seem this would be a perfect place for Mr. Gore, Dr. James Hansen, and Dr. Gavin Schmidt to bridge the crevasse.
Exactly, Anthony. Sadly, these folks don't want to speak to the half of the nation not buying into their junk science, for it is so easily exposed as such, and that would bring an end to the fraud.
Of course, one has to wonder how all those that do believe in this myth feel about the fact that the leaders of their cause not only refuse to debate the issue, but won't even attend a conference dealing with it.
Regardless, Coleman on Monday also pointed his finger at The Weather Channel:
"The Weather Channel had great promise, and that’s all gone now because they’ve made every mistake in the book on what they’ve done and how they’ve done it and it’s very sad,” Coleman said. “It’s now for sale and there’s a new owner of The Weather Channel will be announced – several billion dollars having changed hands in the near future. Let’s hope the new owners can recapture the vision and stop reporting the traffic, telling us what to think and start giving us useful weather information.”We at NewsBusters share your hopes, John.

March 4, 2008 - 13:55 ET by danboThanks but that wasn't it. It looks like part of it but not all.
The one I'm thinking of was heavier. He discusses the concept of using LOD to determine sea level. The historical pattern of LOD. The use of satellite data that showed no rise until it was "adjusted" to match tidal guages in subsiding locations. His confrontation of the Academy of science on this. And the distruction of evidence apparently by an australian research group that wanted to project the image of rising seas.

More media coverage
March 4, 2008 - 11:48 ET by MaximusBraveheartI think there is a good mkt. for this type of coverage; showing how much of a scam the whole GORE-ble warming argument was. How much info they distorted and just didn't tell the rest. I think I read that C02 is only 3% influence of all "green house" gasses. I love how they ignore cloud cover increase (as the earth warms) in the models to yet harp on how melted snow (now ground) absorbs so much more heat. The scam of this is just unreal and the MSM is complicit as are the "nature" shows on cable. I love those type of shows but the writers and hosts have swallowed the GORE-ble warming hook line and sinker (along with pushing evolution as fact vs. theory). I hope the hook gets ripped out, but there will be a lot of blood running out of their evolved gills.
I's only .04% of the air.
March 4, 2008 - 12:12 ET by danboI's only .04% of the air. Remember nitrogen and oxygen are the bulk. In a 100 floor building with 10 feet per floor. That's about 5 inches if I did my math correct.
Yet I understand they claim it accounts for 20% of the greenhouse effect. So 00.04% of the air accounts for 20%. They should use it to insullate double paine windows, ovens and kilns, the space shuttle. Or is this a whee bit of a stretch.

danbo
March 4, 2008 - 14:58 ET by Mike From CanmoreDanbo:
Had a similar thought. Then somebody much wiser than I pointed out it is radiative heat transference we're talking about, not conductive or convective. Carbon is not a good insulator. So a whee bit of a stretch. A VERY quick search on for Carbon R value says it is at least less than 2. In lower mainland BC, code says a minimum R-14 in the walls and R-20 in ceiling. Much higher for the rest of Canada.
Cheers

But not all heat loss is
March 4, 2008 - 16:01 ET by danboBut not all heat loss is conductive or convective. If the we listen to the warmers If you devide the .20 of heat retention or non loss by the .0004 of the air it is, that gives a value of 500. If you used CO2 in a double paine window it should be better than dead air or argon. A dead space in walls filled with pure CO2 would virtually eliminate heat lost by radiation. You could isolate the CO2 in multiple chambers to reduce convection or conduction. Or many other methods.
In short if we fill all those bubbles in foam insulation with CO2 wouldn't it be better than filling it with air?
Provided the warmers are right that is. Which I doubt.
Should we go pattent it? Or are the warmers filled with it.

March 4, 2008 - 18:01 ET by Mike From CanmoreI had not read that paper and I love it. Will definitely read in detail.
Yes, let's listen to warmers because we will sell to warmers. We'll cherry pick some quotes from the IPCC, stick it in front of them as part of the marketing program. We should probably attend a few classes of the Al Gore School of Charlatan Mgmt. I'm sure THAT would be cheap!! I'm sure he'd let us attend if we just paid carbon credits to his company. Wait, that money goes to him too.
Cheers

Pop, What do you have
March 4, 2008 - 12:33 ET by Sick-n-TiredPop,
What do you have concerning funding? I was reading some arguement on this conference yesterday at dailykaos and someone was blurting out about the "whole conference is being funded by Big Oil!" AGW is a much bigger business and i know the world bank is involved. How many scientists on the AGW side have been paid by carbon offsets companies?

March 4, 2008 - 15:05 ET by Sick-n-TiredThanks pop.
What would be nice to have information on as to where funding comes from for those putting together studies pro AGW; find out where the funding from the NSF is coming from etc., etc., on and on---to use against this 'big oil' argument above. We know it is publish or perish and many of the scientists have gone with the flow (i.e. toting the AGW agenda) so they will see continued funding. Next thing you know they start believing their own crap.

Does this mean if someone at the conference says the sky is blue that it's wrong because they were funded by "Big Oil"? That they have to attack the funding instead of the science is very telling.

Or by the Sierra Club, or GreenPeace, or George Soros, or the Heinz Foundation, or Enron(Big Oil), or British Petroleum(Big Oil), etc etc etc.

March 4, 2008 - 11:07 ET by dboI read the opening summary to the conference edited by Fred Singer. Lots of good info in there. I think my favorite part is when he explains how in the IPCC AR4 (2007) they need a way to distort an increase in CO2 emissions in the next century.
According to even the most conservative story lines used by the IPCC, per-capita GDP in the U.S. in 2100 would be surpassed by Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, NorthKorea, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Libya,Algeria, Tunisia, and Argentina [Castles andHenderson 2003].
According to Al Gore, that science is settled.

Class action lawsuit
March 4, 2008 - 11:08 ET by planetrepublicanI'd join in this one. One big class action lawsuit. Put these pinheads on the hot seat. I gurantee they'd be himmimg and hawwing all over themselves in no time. How about a Nuremberg-style trial. All these jerks would soon point their corrupt and fraudulent fingers at Algore since he's the one who really got this going and he'd probably pull out some ancient law that states you can't sue a formal VP or some such nonsense.
Well, you may not be able
March 4, 2008 - 11:21 ET by ConservativeRexWell, you may not be able to sue Gore, but the worst hurt a rascal like this can endure is if the rest of the thinking world shuns him for the scam artist he is. Frankly, he is just a tool. He doesn't believe half the crap that spewing out of his pie hole. But it serves his leftist purposes and the Neo-Stalinist purposes that handle him so he keeps doing it.
This guy desperately wants to be part of the "in" crowd. Hang out with the Hollywood crowd. He's a nerd, and they chose their man carefully. It's all fixing to come unraveled, and then watch those Hollywood morons abandon him. Now, that'll be worth watching.
AL WHORE...
March 4, 2008 - 11:57 ET by danybhoyWhy not try bringing him to court? Others as well, it may take some research, but start looking into those who are commiting scientific fraud. They are out there, those scientists who swear up & down that everything they say is "fact", & those who are funding them.
I would think NASA is in the mix, that would make it gov't fraud. As well as those "non-partisan" groups who fund other studies/papers/websites that, if we looked into them, would almost have to be from progressive/socialist/globalist organizations that see "global warming/climate change" as the surefire route to total socialism. They need to be exposed, because not all of the studies are funded by "BIG OIL", should be considered corrupt.
As well as media types who have very pronounced leftist leanings, such as ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, CBC, BBC, TWC, & papers like the NYT. They are all in on it. Hell, we got a few locals here in the TwinCities news market that need to be taken care of as well.
I want this to happen, get to the bottom of all of this crap. When you do, you will see liberals, RINOS, progressives, socialists, marxists, fascists, greens, "smart growth" mass transit pimps, globalists, & 1 world gov't types, many of them funded by Soros types, if not Soros himself. Most of these morons are the 60's hippies who are hell bent on effing up America in any way they can. They see the "global warming/climate change" bandwagon as their best shot. We need to make sure they got shot down in flames before they ruin our great nation. Take these fraudsters to court & force the issue.
