Springsteen, Vedder and Young Featured in Anti-war Film Soundtrack

There's a new Bush-bashing, anti-war film about to hit theaters next month just in time for the fifth anniversary of America's invasion of Iraq.

Those that can stand it should watch the trailer to the right.

To really drive home the anti-war sentiment, producer/directors Ellen Spiro and Phil Donahue have gotten some of America's top musicians to create the 30 song soundtrack.

As reported by Reuters moments ago (emphasis added):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and Pearl Jam have contributed tunes to the anti-war soundtrack for a documentary about a U.S. soldier paralyzed in Iraq.

The 30-song, two-disc album "Body of War: Songs That Inspired an Iraq War Veteran" will be released March 18 via Warner Music's Sire Records label. All proceeds from the sale of the album will benefit Iraq Veterans Against the War.

[...]

The album was put together by Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, who composed the first single, "No War," specifically for the film. Pearl Jam's live version of Bob Dylan's "Masters of War" also graces the soundtrack.

Springsteen contributed "Devils & Dust," and Neil Young "The Restless Consumer." Other tracks include "Yo George" from Tori Amos, "Son of a Bush" from Public Enemy, and "Bushonomics" from Talib Kweli & Cornel West.

The film's website described the documentary:

Body of War is an intimate and transformational feature documentary about the true face of war today. Meet Tomas Young, 25 years old, paralyzed from a bullet to his spine - wounded after serving in Iraq for less than a week.

Body of War is Tomas' coming home story as he evolves into a new person, coming to terms with his disability and finding his own unique and passionate voice against the war.

[...]

Body of War unfolds on two parallel tracks. On the one hand, we see Tomas evolving into a powerful voice against the war as he struggles to deal with the complexities of a paralyzed body. And on the other, we see the historic debate unfolding in the Congress about going to war in Iraq.

I don't know about you, but I can't wait.

Money Doesn't Matter

Redford, Cruise and Streep proved, with "Lions for Lambs" that Hollywood does not mind wasting other people's money. De Palma's Redacted grossed in the thousands.

An sound track with thirty artists has twenty-nine too many. Apparently Hollywood has found more investors with too much money.

That is so true, allanf.

That is so true, allanf. Those who say Hollywood makes what the people want to see, have no clue. They don't even care if they lose money...as they did with the ones you mentioned and "In the Valley of Elah"(btw, have you seen the glowing blurbs they are airing about that steaming pile now that it's coming out on DVD? Yeah, nice try).

They make the kind of movies that they want to make. And they gush all over each other and pat each other on the back for being "brave artists."

You would have to strap me in a chair and staple my eyelids open to get me to watch the Oscars. What a colossal waste of time.

I hope in some how, some

I hope in some how, some way, that some of you people in Hollywood will read this:

I HATE ALL OF YOU BASTARDS. I ALWAYS WILL. I WILL NEVER EVER SPEND A DIME ON ANY OF YOUR MOVIES.

I HOPE ALL OF YOU ROT IN HELL.

Only Hollywood would use our

Only Hollywood would use our brave service people in a antiwar movie.

Hollywood disgusted me, in every form and fashion.

Just watch tomorrow night at the Oscars it will be the lowest watched ever. America is sick of these people.

Tom Cruise, call your office....

Mother, you beat me to

Mother, you beat me to it.

I just was going to say that a new generation just found its Ron Kovic.

Or maybe it's the same-old generation trying to find a new Ron Kovic.

I can't decide.

trach,

I think you are right on both counts.

I used to be a part of that

I used to be a part of that scene.

One of my fondest memories are of these hipster girls I used to hang with and they'd always dream of the next war to protest, just because they wanted something to protest.

I used to believe in their grand solution too. . .for awhile.  Maybe it was just the emotional subjectivity of it all that was doing the talking.

Maybe it was just the hormones.

I really-really wish all these anti-war liberals would tell us exactly how to get our enemies to "give peace a chance."

trach... This brings back

trach...

This brings back not so fond memories for me. My first wife was one of these. She once went to a demonstration with some friends at the Savannah River Nuke facilty in SC. My very last words before she left the house that day were... If you get arrested don't bother calling me. Well, she got arrested for trespassing on Government property and she called me to come and bail her out. I said NO, and then hung up. A year and a half later we were divorced. If I had only known it would be that easy, I would have tried something like that a lot sooner.

See, that's what you right wing nut jobs just don't GET!

They're only our enemies because we've made them our enemies.  If we didn't invade their countries and exploit their people and places, they wouldn't have any reason to be fighting us.  If we leave them alone and show them that we won't invade them, then they'll be our friends!!!  All we have to do is give them food and let them come into our country.

Oh, and get rid of George Bush.  And Dick Cheney.

<sarcasm off>

Exactly. If history teaches

Exactly. If history teaches us anything it's that if you leave the world alone it leaves you alone.

Why oh why can't people see that and just get along.

Don't invade me bro.

XEROX THAT!

Vote 4 change. Vote 4 anything. See Jack & Mr Shy's first campaign ad for the ONLY viable 3rd party candidate.

There's the problem with Hollywoodians, they eat, breathe, and bathe in stupidity.

I'm ashamed to admit I once

I'm ashamed to admit I once idolized Vedder. Now,I wouldn't waste the moisture to spit in his direction.

The word anticipation does

The word anticipation does not apply here with this flick.

The word anger does apply for how I feel about this all.

Never-ending in La-La-Land...the very entity and people they move against with gusto whether it is top budget or low budget production... are the very people that gave their lives for the freedom of these leftist with an agenda to make this leftist crap, because that is exactly what the intention is, to shape minds that haven't experienced anything yet in the real world that would apply to them...

With the exception of those who volunteer and serve...the majority of them that is...not the minority like Tomas who they use for their own propaganda filled agenda.

Pathetic

Do you think it's unfair to

Do you think it's unfair to criticize the military ever?

Balboa...

Without critics, entities would not know what to improve...so there ya go, but while we are a nation at war it is improper to recklessly take a poke at the very institutions that provide your freedom.

You knock the military, you're knockin' yerself.

Ya dope.

Improper? C'mon. If people

Improper? C'mon. If people genuinely think that the war is going in the wrong direction, that seems to be the exact time to speak out.

Now, there is a good and bad way to go about it, the latter which I know the left has done a lot of.

This movie could be completely unfair; or it could be just an opposing viewpoint that you don't want to hear.

I've heard it

every single day since the whole thing started. It depresses the intellect of the American populus and heartens OUR enemies.

I understand your point of

I understand your point of view, but when are you supposed to speak out if not during the conflict? After? When it's too late?

I reckon

that it is a 'how' issue. How should one speak out? Is there a constructive way? A destructive?

Rarely in my life have I seen someone trash their own house, but when these "artists" use the world wide media to demote their own country that is just what they are doing. It is senseless and not at all Christian in any way.

I'm just sayin' is all...

In honor of John Cougar.......

As John Cougar and the other rats in the liberal nest, I ask these rockers to not USE MY NATION to bash my nation.

I find it only something a liberal could fathom in not wanting one politician to use their music, but willingly using their own music to bash someone which gets other people murdered.

Great job liberals. Fire up them guitars for concerts for Gore or Obama as every time you start singing liberals loose.

*HIC IACET ARTORIVS REX QVONDAM REXQVE FVTVRVS

One has to wonder, will they

One has to wonder, will they include clips of gore, clinton, kerry, et al. saying THE SAME THINGS about saddam hussein and iraq that the republicans were saying in that trailer?

Phil Donahue is the

Phil Donahue is the Producer? No surprise. I think the only thing that gives him more pleasure than bashing America is bashing the Catholic Church.

seems to me

that satan does some of his best work in Hollywood.

I wonder if Senator Byrd

I wonder if Senator Byrd would agree to let all vets voice their opinion whether in support or against the war. So far all I see from the liberal media is the few who stand against. Anti war vets are given all sorts of voice, prowar vets are expected not to challenge the dissenters. Personally I am done with it.

I poo on Hollywood

And on the morons in the music biz.  Of course the only vets they care about are the tiny handful that go moonbat or were always moonbats to begin with.

greenfairie

"i poo on hollywood cuz hollywood poos on me"

c'mon, everyone to the tune of "i'm stuck on bandaid"

No Poofdas

botg,

I agree with the sentiment, but won't that seriously mess up their "armpit botox" treatments? :-)

who is the poor soul who gets to buff Michael Moores cleavage?

No Poofdas

botg,

LMAO-All I can say is, thank God I am not that person! And if I were, I'd be seeking 100% financing for my immediate retirement, 'cause I'd be pretty much used up after that.

Rusty Brain

Take it from me Neil...It's better to burn out than it is to rust.

Always nice to hear from the peace-at-any-price crowd.

I am far from pro-war, as the worst aspects of war have probably touched my family over the last 130+ years far more than most.

While I feel for Tomas Young and his family, the fact is no one forced him to go to Iraq. He was a volunteer. Sadly, many of my clan did not have that choice, as most all were drafted, and that was true of those who didn't exactly "make it," too.

Despite what many think, we did not ask for this war. It was essentially thrust upon us, as it was upon all of what we know as Western Society, which includes the United States of America.

Even though we are realizing success in both Afghanistan and Irag, the fact of the matter is, this war is going rather badly for what is left of what I will call the civilized world. If you doubt this, take a really close look at Western Europe, Africa, Asia and even our neighbors to the north.

Those who say that all war is bad are right to an extent, but some wars are necessary. Those who do not see this are truly ignorant of history.

Yes, Western Society may, on the whole, continue to appease those who are actively working for our demise. However, as history has repeatedly shown, the resulting conflagration will be much worse than what we are currently experiencing.

I wonder if Neil Young has a song ready for that.

Proud member of the "Rough Republican Attack Machine."

Wonder what the box office will bring in on this dog $-wise?

Another bomb in the making (no pun intended). Who goes and watches these films? Lefties who hate W and the Republicans anyway, so who cares? I guess if Hollywood doesn't want to make $ they will just keep cranking out this crap. But Hollywood wants to make $ so the choice is obvious...don't let left-wingers control what gets made.

So many questions!

When was the last time any of these "artists" were even kind of relevant? For all the talk about Eddie Vedder, I cannot even recall the last time I heard anything new by Pearl Jam. And if it were new, it was probably as lousy as anything found on their second and third albums.

Tori Amos? When did this nutty redhead EVER matter? Springsteen? Yeah, Bruce, you're just a regular guy from Jersey -- living in a giant compound, nestled away from all the common schlubs you claim to represent.

Can't Neil Young go pick another fight with Skynyrd or churn out another dying old goat tour with CSN?

And after all these years, why hasn't anyone locked Phil Donahue in a spaceship aimed at the sun?

Such a shame to see these pointless liberals whose greatest successes are long gone, trying to thrust their equally pointless opinions back into the limelight on the back of a wounded veteran.

I'd ask if they had any shame, but that's obviously a rhetorical question.

When was the last time any

When was the last time any of these "artists" were even kind of relevant?

Don't know that it matters, really. Would you feel better if the songs were by Fergie, John Mayer?

Wow, looks like a very

Wow, looks like a very powerful, leftist bias yes, but at the same time powerful

Predictions

Two predictions:

1)  It'll be a box office bomb

2)  It'll rake in the industry awards

When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.

IVAW = VVAW?

"All proceeds from the sale of the album will benefit Iraq Veterans Against the War."

How about sending all that money to the Iraq veterans or their families instead?

Is this organization credible?  They sound awfully reminiscent of the Vietnam Vets Against the War that John Kerry was so infamous for promoting.  They even have a Winter Soldier link on their website.  I don't doubt that most of these guys served, but I was looking through their public profiles on the website and many of them sound quite dubious.  A few examples below.  One guy is wearing a keffiyeh (Palestinian scarf) in his picture, for crying out loud.
