Rare Snows and Cold in Saudi Arabia Ignored by US Media

Photo of Noel Sheppard.

The selective coverage of international weather events by global warming obsessed media continued this weekend as near-record low temperatures in Saudi Arabia mixed with snow went totally ignored by American press outlets.

This goes quite counter to the vast amount of coverage any climate event anywhere on the face of the planet receives if it can be used to support Nobel Laureate Al Gore's alarmist theories.

As such, although Russia's RIA Novosti reported on Friday rare weather conditions in Saudi Arabia, it certainly wasn't surprising that, according to Google News, not one American press outlet found it newsworthy (emphasis added):

Northern parts of Saudi Arabia are covered with snow with schools, mosques and administrative bodies paralyzed, local media reported Friday.

The oil-rich kingdom is being hit with subzero temperatures and snow storms with freezing winds of up to 50 km/h (30mp/h). Some regions have been experiencing problems with water supplies as pipes have frozen, and livestock has died from the cold.

The Saudi Gazette reported late in December that the winter was expected to last 89 days, with temperatures reaching below zero. National media said the winter is the coldest in the country for 20 years.

Hmmm. Coldest in 20 years. I guess that's why our press are disinterested.

Think they'd ignore Saudi Arabia if the temperatures were the warmest in 20 years?

No, I don't either.

snow and ice in Saudi Arabia/global whining

Absolutely no coverage.Hmmm, just like there was no coverage a couple of weeks ago when 60% of the U.S. was under several feet of snow and ice.Where were the global whiners??setting up a global whining shindig somewhere near the equator.

Paging former VP Al Gore...

...Why are we getting some of the coldest temperatures in Saudi Arabia and why the western USA has some of the deepest snowpacks in quite some time? (wagging fingers)

-

Er ... ah ...

Wanna buy some carbon credits?

We have to get news of this from a Russian news outlet?? For shame, American msm!

Is this a 'climate change'

Is this a 'climate change' winter or a 'nuclear' winter drill?

Or could it just be that weather 'happens'?

Killing them with kindness isn't working.  Time to get scrappy with the Donkeys.

Did the models predict this?

All I have after seeing these reports are countless questions not being answered by the AGW crowd...who are sitting silent while scanning the planet for some region with record highs to point the finger at.

I wonder if we can take a look at the models these AGW people used to see if they predicted snow in this region? How come every time the weather supports the global warming theories they claim it is proof and every time it doesnt they say that data point is just a outlier? I continue to see the data correction ignored that shows the warmest climate period was in the 1930's instead insisting the warmest year was 1998...so were there periods of snow in Saudi Arabia during the 1930's? Is it even possible to have snow in Iraq and Saudi Arabia and still be in a state of unstoppable global warming? In Colorado snowpack is at all time highs, as well, so is global warming going to result in more precipitation or less?-no one seems to be able to answer that. If it ends up that our planet is instead heading into a mini-ice age that no one prepared for... are these people going to be held accountable for the deaths that result from not preparing for it. Holding back third world countries from developing the infrastructure to provide warmth and shelter for their populations in the name of global warming could result in a large deathtoll- has anyone considered that? Will anyone have the guts to bring those responsible before the world court for judgement if that ends up being the case? (tongue in cheek here)

Holding back third world countries from developing the infrastructure to provide warmth and shelter for their populations in the name of global warming could result in a large deathtoll

That's exactly the point. We (all human beings on the planet) contribute only 6% of global warming gases. If that's the tipping point, not only do developing nations have to forego the comforts of heat and electricity and running water and that new $2,500 car but we (first world countries) HAVE TO JOIN THEM in these privations.

oh....okay

So you turned in your car and are walking to work each day to put yourself even with the average 3rd world resident? You are freezing at night because you tore your thermostat off the wall and cut off the gas and electricity to your house? Give me an exact amount that you think is reasonable to use in a given year in petroleum, emmisions, and electrictity and then lead by example. Then predict for me the exact result that will be generated in temperature reduction and show me the model you are using and show me how that same model can be used to predict past events and predicted the record cold climate in Saudi Arabia or the absence of hurricanes when all the other models predicted above average occurence....until then you are just a fear mongerer trying to drum up votes, taxes, and money.

Exactly!  No AGW advocate has ever done that.  Al, James and Heidi don't understand that if their own theory is taken to its logical (only) conclusion, in order for humans to stop global warming, third world countries must stay as they are and first world countries must become third world countries.

Yet historically, the only connection they can make between carbon and temperature is that the former FOLLOWS the latter by 800 years.  Geez, can we have a little more proof before we walk out of our houses into the caves?

my bad

You had me for a second Dahlia...sorry to mistinterpret your sarcasm. I should have known better.- my bad.

-

No problem.

It's not sarcasm, it's literally what would have to be done if man were causing global warming.

You asked the right question.  No AGW advocate has quantified the tipping point; what we would have to do and cease doing to stop global warming if we were causing it.

It's partly that they're afraid of the answer and partly that's it's really not about the science.  It's about what FEELS right ... and communing with and channeling Mother Nature.  Can't you hear her talking?  "Turn in those bad light bulbs.  Find a job closer to home.  Don't let those third worlders have cars and electricity.  Form a pulse circle ..."

not only that D

but with the money they make they increase their carbon output!!  They build larger houses, fly around the world in private jets, etc

btw Nifty, D is one of the strongest anti-AGW posters here

Could care less about the MSM no snow reports

This will no doubt roll eyes, but while people look at the global warming scam my attention is more to the mystic side of Islam which bin Laden adheres to and I see this snow as a sign or omen.

I view this in the context that Bhutto was assassinated in the region as a precursor sign.
I view the Iranians trying to get America to blow up some suicide speedboats absolutely fail in their attempt.

I view that President Bush had what would be deemed good weather in the Israeli state, but the entire Arab states have been covered in an unseasonable snow and cold.

That in omens or signs means the "Middle East Peace" portends to not be a positive thing for their regimes even though they have been pushing this thing.
There is going to be bad fallout in the region from this, perhaps war as the weather appears so glowering.

From my perspective it is sad, as I so enjoy the monarchies there.......loved the photo of the President pictured with an Arab head of state with a hunting hawk. The world needs gentry like this to keep the groundwork of the past alive in their breeding of horses, hunting dogs and the hawk.

The wise men of the east see all this and I know bin Laden does as in my profiling him, he is quite poetic and mystical as the old Islamic mystics. Time will prove what is to be correct.

I'm not sure why there's no

I'm not sure why there's no coverage. All the human global warming backers say this type of thing is caused by global warming too. Remember, GW is an issue which, no matter what's going on with weather, they'll say GW is causing it. Maybe the media realizes this, but more importantly, realizes the many people who back the human GW theory haven't yet been briefed on the "anything that happens can be attributed to GW" agenda yet. So in that regard, the MSM being quiet is typical.

I thought the same thing.

I thought the same thing.  They could have lead the news with: "In another stunning example of climate change..."

But, maybe they're losing confidence in the spin and feel it's better just to ignore it and hope nobody notices.

If it SNOWS IN SAUDI and

If it SNOWS IN SAUDI and the MSM don't report it, did it really happen?

It's be a cold day in hell before there's any breathless reports on unseasonally COLD WEATHER in HOTcountries.

Oh, on second thoughts, even if hell freezes over it won't change the minds of media WARM EARTHERS.

Check out my exclusive edit of BBC News America's interview with Mrs Clinton: It's news to me!

Al Gore is a doofus; the MSM are liars.

With information so readily available worldwide, and so many people having access to both sides of the story, the global warming/climate change hysterics do not have the traction they need.  In the long run (which ain't all that long, nowadays) people will continue to see more and more how biased the MSM coverage is, and will look for - AND FIND - the truth about claims of man's ability to affect the climate, one way or the other.

Now, now NB bloggers...

Aw, let's not be too hard on AlGore - rest assured he and his lovely wife Nipper are safe and secure and nestled comfortably in their energy guzzling, 10,000 square foot home somewhere in the middle of the Volunteer State!

This weird weather was just a slight miscalculation on the part of this legend-in-his-own-mind, environmentalist wacko. He'll be back to preach on the evils of global whining, er, warming - after winter hibernation, that is...

If humans had control of the thermostat

If humans or Al had control of the worlds thermostat, what temperature would they set it at?

If only certain places are good and others are bad. The Attic and Antarctica are minus 100 C to lock all the ice and stop sea level rise but not start sea level decline. There are no deserts any where. But no floods in the now tropical death valley and Arabian Desert in Saudi. No snow anywhere south of the Attic circle but, plenty of water in the rives fed by glaciers and spring melt like the Mississippi but not too much water to cause floods. Good Climate Change is unattainable and can not be manifested. What great new enemy that is created by changing the name from AGW to ACC (Anthropogenic Climate Change)

The drive bys are

going to wait until summer before reporting the weather again.

Most have noticed that the cold has spread all over the world as the sun has turned down the heat ...

meanwhile, here in Riyadh

Being here in Riyadh, I can tell you that it's been pretty damn cold.

George Bush was in Riyadh this week, too. Hmmmmmm.

Did W bring Karl Rove's weather machine with him?  Maybe to teach the Saudis a lesson about who's REALLY in charge of things?

I'm surprised that this cold weather here hasn't been labeled as Bush's fault - everything else is!

Snow in Saudi

The MSM greatly enjoyed reporting on the snow in Baghdad a couple of days ago.  A glance at Wunderground.com suggests a good chunk of SW Asia is sharing the cold snap.

BTW:  "Subzero" temps in the referenced article means subzero in Celsius.  Temperatures in Northern Saudi Arabia at 6 a.m. Monday local time (9 p.m. Sunday CST) were within a few degrees of freezing.  Still, that's darn cold for them.

When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.

"Give It Back, Al."

Anyone here notice that "Global Warming" is being shamelessly replaced by the term "Climate Change?"  Now that Mother Earth's temperature has slowly stopped cooperating with the Hard Left's political agenda, every episode of unusual weather becomes a candidate for man made catastrophe.  Heads they win, tails we lose.  We need a political slogan of our own.  I nominate this counterpunch:

"Give It Back, Al."

OK, here's a refresher...In

OK, here's a refresher...In the 70's all the "expert" climatologist were predicting a new worldwide mini ice-age. Glacial build up, snowstorms, I take it the whole nine yards. I believed them then. Now since then, I have done my damndest to heat whatever part of the world I could with bigger vehicles, motorcycles, boats and so on. (I did quit smoking however) to keep the world from freezing up. And what thanks do I get??

Oh Rex, the world is going to be a desert, were killing the trees, were going to flood out, and on and on. Well damn it! I've done what I can, I'm getting older now, let the young'uns carry on where I left off. I'm tired.

I support Global Warming!

I live in the Pacific Northwest near Canada.  Should I feel guilty for secretly hoping for a little global warming?

During the last ice age, 20,000 years ago, my homestead was buried under about 5000 feet of ice.  Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
