Add another item to the growing list of things caused by the liberal bogeyman known as global warming:
SNOW!!!
I kid you not.
For those thinking NewsBusters has fallen prey to a satire, think again, as the following was hysterically logged by Agence France-Presse moments ago (emphasis added throughout, h/t NBer Popular Tech):
Light snow fell in Baghdad early on Friday in what weather officials said was the first time in about a 100 years.
Rare snowfalls were also recorded in the west and centre of Iraq, plunging temperatures to zero degrees Centigrade (32 degrees Fahrenheit) and even colder, an official said.
The snow in Baghdad, which melted as it hit the ground, began falling before dawn and continued until after 9 am, residents said.
"Snow has fallen in Baghdad for the first time in about a century as a result of two air flows meeting," said a statement by the meteorology department.
Now, you would think that cold weather in areas that normally don't experience such would be evidence that global warming isn't happening, right?
Wrong!
You see, what the alarmists - led of course by Nobel Laureate Al Gore - have brilliantly done is renamed the bogeyman "climate change" such that anything that occurs on this planet dealing with weather exemplifies the threat they avow will destroy us all if we don't stop burning fossil fuels:
The director of the meteorology department, Dawood Shakir, told AFP that climate change was possibly to blame for the unusual event.
"It's very rare," he said. "Baghdad has never seen snow falling in living memory.
"These snowfalls are linked to the climate change that is happening everywhere. We are finding some places in the world which are warm and are supposed to be cold."
There it is. As such, folks, with solar cycle 24 having just begun, it is a metaphysical certitude that as the planet cools during this phase, alarmists will blame it on climate change and carbon dioxide rather than the sun.
And, of course, a global warming obsessed media will dutifully report the insanity.
Heaven help us.

Kind of begs the question.
January 11, 2008 - 11:31 ET by Dave in TexasIf "climate change" caused this snow, what exactly caused the snow 100 years ago? Or have humans become so significant that we're actually capable of affecting weather in the past now. :)
That was my first question,
January 11, 2008 - 11:41 ET by Hero SquadThat was my first question, too. If it never snowed there before, that's one thing (still not proof of something man-made, though), but it has. So unless global warming... excuse me, "climate change"... has been a century in the making, it doesn't seem logical or scientifically accurate to make a leap of faith and conclude that AGW was the cause.

See it is quite easy; global warming is global cooling---get it? duh!! <sarcasm off>
Reminds me of an arguement I got into with a friend of mine; he was trying to argue the AGW stance, when I had him on the ropes; as I was rattling of facts to him about the fact that we aren't warming, he immediately went to the talking point that our emissions that cause this supposed, human induced, warming will eventually cause global cooling. Best part of the story is, and i am not kidding, he proceeded to ask me if i had seen the movie the Day After Tomorrow and used it as a source and point to his arguement!!!!!!! Thanks Trach, I can
January 11, 2008 - 18:11 ET by LeonThanks Trach,
I can certainly bob and weave on a wide number of topics, but there are some issues that I will never waver on.
Fear of the fat is one of them.
I agree that much of our news is nothing more than fear mongering. Bird flu..booo! GW...booo! Razors in Halloween Candy...boo!
But the media claim that fat is an epidemic is true and it needs to be dealt with immediately.
In that movie Supersize me, a doctor made one of the most salient points concerning your 'right' to be fat that I've ever heard. His premise was, why is it ok in America for me to tell someone to stop smoking or tell them they are disgusting for smoking, but I can't tell a fat person to put the dessert down? What's the difference?
I agree. Fat is a choice and it's a bad choice. You should be able to confront people when they're making bad decisions.
I appreciate the kind words Trach I really do. The de-lazification of America is one of my top priorities, and if we all chip in, we can be healthy & happy society within in a relatively short amount of time.

January 11, 2008 - 16:52 ET by LeonWell Thanks Trach!
I could go all day. Perhaps I'll start another fat forum. There has been a lot of news recently involving fatties, especially on Drudge.
Hatred of fat people is not something you can appreciate until you have lived in a city, flown on an airplane, or used any sort of public transportation. When space matters, you start to see how offensive they are.
Ever been in an elevator full of fat people in the summer time? It ain't pretty. Who needs a sauna with that level of body heat. Excessive calories just roasting, heat wafting off their bodies. It's a real treat.
I guess what it comes down to, is it really isn't hard to stop being fat. My friend's a doctor and he tells me all the time how easy it is for most people to lose weight, they just have to make a decision to do it and stick to the plan. All you have to do is exercise. That's it. All this diet only stuff is garbage. Put the fast food down and go for a walk and you'll be as good as new.
The number reason for fatness = being lazy.

January 11, 2008 - 16:59 ET by tracheostomyOne of my childhood friends was morbidly obese. Something like, way over 400 pounds. He came from a very abusive family, and went through a chain of broken relationships until this one doctor (his cardiologist) came along and got him to listen.
He's now a contender in the Ironman triathalon. No lie. You'll prolly end up seeing him on Dr. Phil or something. I hardly recognize him anymore. January 11, 2008 - 13:48 ET by danboThough coorelations don't imply causality.
We had that great scientst, Al Gore, standing before that chart. CO2 levels and tempertures. (Both charts were highly questionable.) Gore pointing out that as one (CO2) went up. So did the other. Now as we look at the chart. As CO2 goes up. Tempertures go down. "Proof" of the effects of CO2 on climate.
Only to the avid believer of this sham religion.

January 11, 2008 - 14:03 ET by bigtimerI heard about the snow in Baghdad first thing this morning and burst out laughing....especially after Kerry's speech yesterday about his support for Obama...he referred to being in Bali and all that jazz where the global warming BS was held...of course Obama loves to use the phrase planet in peril...at least he hasn't quite moved up to planetary emergency yet...
LOL!
Bring on the snow...as the poor leftist kooks making money on this BS keep trying to feed us all their snow job.
Global Warming Climate Change one by one two by two
January 11, 2008 - 14:36 ET by Lame CherryI simply wanted to note something of visual proofs in that the house I now reside is from 1890. The known real history is from 1950 and in all that time there was never a time when the sun did not melt the snow off the roof. This year the snow took over a month and still has ice patches on it even with 40 degree days.
The same fact is true for the snow on the ground. It is impossible to find the normal patches which always exposed so the wildlife could find seeds in the fields to pick.
All that means is the sun is fluctuating in not in "heat" or "light", but a bandwidth of warmth which usually absorbs into liquids. This past summer this bandwidth was actually over stimulated by how it was cooking garden plants, but as I have blogged on before there are more energy bands in the sun than are being examined.
Right now the upper atmosphere is still heating, but the "heat" which causes thawing due to it being readily absorbed has lessened.
Hence one gets snow in Iraq as the atmosphere sloshes about and rain mists in Wisconsin.
Oh and my neighbor who was married 50 years ago in January states it rained on her wedding day of the 10th in an area where it usually was 20 below.
So the sun is constantly in flux, always has and always will be.

THE TRUE PARTY OF CHANGE
January 11, 2008 - 14:41 ET by w0tmNow let me get this straight. Any and all change is caused by Conservatives/Republicans. Environment, economy, standard of living, healthcare, price of toothpaste in Toledo -- everything.
In every lib speech of the last month the word change was used an average of six times per sentence. No substance - just "change".
Like a Monty Python sketch. Remember SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM -- Ad Nauseum!! SPAM, SPAM, SPAM !!!!!!! ??? CHANGE, CHANGE, CHANGE CHANGE, CHANGE. "Bring on the clowns!" (Please!!!!)
Since it's now proven, accepted and admitted all change comes from the Right, would everyone else please now sit down and shut up! You can't have it both ways! One more time WITH FEELING PLEASE !!! All together now!!

January 11, 2008 - 15:52 ET by chessplayerThe idea that global warming causes snow and ice isn`t a new one. Warmists have been saying that increasing ice on Antarctica is the result of man-made global warming.

Change!
January 11, 2008 - 16:30 ET by ecnirPIsn't anyone who becomes our next President going to be a change in the White House? I seriously don't get the argument the Democratics are making that they represent change. It is tautologically accurate...for every single candidate!
We've Got To Stop Climate Change!
January 11, 2008 - 16:09 ET by ecnirPI love that these people have decided to make their argument about Climate Change now instead of Global Warming. They just keep digging and digging their own grave. It lets them make claims about Baghdad snow that before came across as preposterous. But it requires you to believe that their goal is to actually stop the changing of our planet's climate. Could someone please describe to me what life would look like after they stop the dynamic climate that exists on this planet!?
Climate Change-Isn't that good!
January 11, 2008 - 16:13 ET by PawpawNClimate Change-Isn't that good! I thought it was supposed to be higher temperature during day and cooler at night. That one season may be warmer or cooler than the previous. That some places freeze, some thaw, some have rain, some more dry. Today it is 57, tomorrow be 50. Tonight 38, tomorrow night 32. Rain early today, snow maybe Sunday. Isn't this climate change?

The Iraqi people are really loving it and see it as a good omen. They just don't get it yet. Sorry libs.
