Do liberals hate conservatives with such a passion that they actually want us all to die?
Before you answer, consider a December 22 op-ed published by the Baltimore Chronicle & Sentinel authored by Dave Lindorff, "a 34-year veteran, an award-winning journalist, a former New York Times contributor, a graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, [and] a two-time Journalism Fulbright Scholar."
In the piece entitled "Global Warming Will Save America from the Right...Eventually," Lindorff seriously made the case that the liberal bogeyman known as climate change has a huge potential political upside - conservatives in red states will be wiped out (emphasis added throughout, h/t NB reader Jessica):
The area that will by completely inundated by the rising ocean-and not in a century but in the lifetime of my two cats-are the American southeast, including the most populated area of Texas, almost all of Florida, most of Louisiana, and half of Alabama and Mississippi, as well as goodly portions of eastern Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. While the northeast will also see some coastal flooding, its geography is such that that aside from a few projecting sandbars like Long Island and Cape Cod, the land rises fairly quickly to well above sea level. Sure, Boston, New York and Philadelphia will be threatened, but these are geographically confined areas that could lend themselves to protection by Dutch-style dikes. The West Coast too tends to rise rapidly to well above sea level in most places. Only down in Southern California towards the San Diego area is the ground closer to sea level.
So what we see is that huge swaths of conservative America are set to face a biblical deluge in a few more presidential cycles.
Incredibly, this makes Lindorff happy, an emotion he appears interested in others sharing:
Then there's the matter of the Midwest, which climate experts say is likely to face a permanent condition of unprecedented drought, making the place largely unlivable, and certainly unfarmable. The agribusinesses and conservative farmers that have been growing corn and wheat may be able to stretch out this doomsday scenario by deep well drilling, but west of the Mississippi, the vast Ogallala Aquifer that has allowed for such irrigation is already being tapped out. It will not be replaced.
So again, we will see the decline and depopulation of the nation's vast midsection-noted for its consistent conservatism. Only in the northernmost area, around the Great Lakes (which will be not so great anymore), and along the Canadian border, will there still be enough rain for farming and continued large population concentrations, but those regions, like Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois, are also more liberal in their politics.
Finally, in the Southwest, already parched and stiflingly hot, the rise in energy costs and the soaring temperatures will put an end to right-wing retirement communities like Phoenix, Tucson and Palm Springs. Already the Salton Sea is fading away and putting Palm Springs on notice that the good times are coming to an end. Another right-wing haven soon to be gone.
Can you imagine actually publishing something advocating "an end to right-wing retirement communities like Phoenix, Tucson and Palm Springs?" This coming from a 34-year veteran of journalism?
Are you kidding me?
In the end, it appears he's not kidding:
So the future political map of America is likely to look as different as the much shrunken geographical map, with much of the so-called "red" state region either gone or depopulated.
There is a poetic justice to this of course. It is conservatives who are giving us the candidates who steadfastly refuse to have the nation take steps that could slow the pace of climate change, so it is appropriate that they should bear the brunt of its impact.
I guess like the rest of his hate-filled ilk, Lindorff is either unaware or disingenuously forgetful of the fact that the Clinton administration - with the Global Warmingist-in-Chief Al Gore as vice president - chose not to put the Kyoto Treaty before Congress after the Senate - with many Democrats from blue states participating, mind you! - voted 95 to 0 - yes, Mr. Lindorff, ZERO! - demanding America NOT participate in those Protocols.
Which brings us back to the original question: do liberal journalists that consistently ignore facts do so because their hatred of conservatives is so strong that it blocks from neural receptors all truths found to be dogmatically inconveniently?
Just how much does one have to despise something to become so addle-minded, and once so afflicted, is there a possible cure, or is this a permanent condition once acquired?

December 29, 2007 - 10:26 ET by OldSailor88We blogged about this the other day in open thread. The thing that astounds me about this (other than the fact that he's serious) is that he thinks that all conservatives are dumb enough to stand still and drown, or stay put and die of starvation. He forgets a famous Bocephus line. "Country Boy Can Survive!"

December 29, 2007 - 10:34 ET by ThisnThatNot only (if his scenario was correct) would the current red states remain red (albiet with reduced population), much of that population would move into the current blue states, thereby turning most of them red in the process. The end result? Most of the nation would be red. What a dumb-a$$.

On the subject of the man who wrote the piece, Dave Lindorff, he was a guest on my favorite radio show, The John Gibson Show(6pm-9pm est...If you have XM like me, or Sirius, tune in. It's smart & funny as hell.) & he mentioned that it was a bit of a satire piece. While I believe him, many who push the global warming fraud do believe this may happen, or are willing to lie about it to impose the new global socialism to right all of the wrongs the modern world(USA) has commited.
He did seem rather shallow when Gibson grilled him on several subjects.

December 29, 2007 - 20:56 ET by PopularTechIt has nothing to do with anyone moving out of the way because the rise will be so mild and take so long we will have centuries to move. Do these ignorant fools (Lindorff) even bother to research the propaganada they spew?

"Liberal" Hypocrites
December 29, 2007 - 10:41 ET by iveseenitallThis post cuts to the core of modern "liberalism". Under the vaneers of "tolerance", "love", "peace", "caring", etc. beats the heart of the modern "liberal"---filled with hate. Their prideful conceit has them believing that they are so "correct" they have to wipe out all opposition. Algore and Hilly are prime examples. Their minds and hearts are closed, not because they want to improve the world, but because, like spoiled children, they want their own way. And don't you dare disagree with them. How quickly you'll be on their "enemies" list as they send their hit men in the MSM and elsewhere to get you.

My prayer and thoughts are always with them. All of you should seek

It was my intention only to push back when pushed.

BTW, in the event what you have written even comes to pass by half, the "red state" populations WILL move into "blue state" areas (with their guns) and survive quite nicely, as "red staters" tend NOT to wait around for the government to rescue them ... Also, remember where "blue state" food comes from ... That "red State" agri-area(s) you seem to have condemned. December 29, 2007 - 13:06 ET by taterI know someone mentioned it already about a lot of blue states being near water...but if their fairy tale of global warming does come to fruition (it won't) then here are some lovely towns that would also likely go underwater...Seattle, San Francisico, Boston, New York, LA...and given people who don't wait for the government to help out will move, dare I say more liberals would die than conservatives.
To think I didn't even need a journalism degree...I just have a brain and use it. Like my grandfather always said, there should be a class in college called common sense and everyone should take it.
Do you realize how much it costs to run for office? More than any honest man could afford. -Montgomery Burns
That old joke turned around
December 29, 2007 - 13:39 ET by CarlosSI recall that when the global warming canard first came out, the alarmists were warning us that San Francisco and Manhattan would be underwater in 20 years. This spawned the joke among conservatives that "San Francisco and Manhattan will be underwater in 20 years..., that's the good news, and now the bad news, it's going to be 2 degrees warmer"
This dullard has taken that old joke and tried to turn it around
Seattle?
December 29, 2007 - 14:21 ET by JeffWeimerSeattle won't be underwater, only a little bit around the edges, it rises up from the sound pretty rapidly (the sidewalks there have STAIRS). Not many low-lying areas there. It's more hilly than San Francisco.

If one looks at a map of red
December 29, 2007 - 13:27 ET by kgIf one looks at a map of red vs blue states by county, one will see the liberals are grouped into a few small parcels of land. What this concludes is that misery loves company. They are afraid to leave the nest and experience the world. Yet, they still think that the world revolves around them.
Let's see, the sea level is
December 29, 2007 - 14:03 ET by MikeBLet's see, the sea level is supposed to rise 20 feet (or so) in the next 15 years (assuming the idiot's cats are now kittens).
There isn't that much of Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, or the other coastal states that are 20 feet or less above mean sea level. But, let's follow the fool's reasoning. The sea levels rise, inundating the coastal states. That means such cities as New York, Boston, Seattle, L.A., and such are going to be drowned. That means a doodoo load of liberals are going to die, because "everyone knows" that liberals are too stupid to get out of the way of natural disasters. That'll mean that the political leanings of the population of the country will shift to the right. Which means that Congress, the Presidency, and the Supreme Court will all shift rightward, too. Which means that many of the marxist wealth redistribution programs will be done away with, which means that a lot more liberals will starve to death. With the wealth redistribution programs gone, it will mean that a lot more liberals will turn to crime instead of going to work, which means that, especially in those states with Castle Doctrine laws, a lot more liberals will end up dead at the hands of ticked off conservative home owners.
Assuming the moron's original premise of global warming is correct, his conclusion is still wrong: global warming will save the country from liberalism ... eventually. Where's the downside of that?

True Stalinism Is Right Around The Corner
December 29, 2007 - 14:51 ET by rammingspeedThe tolerant, passive, pacifistic Left is growing more and more angry. They've been dedicated Marxists all along, but their prolonged hatred at not getting their way is burning a hole in their will not to actually kill (or otherwise physically neutralize) their political opponents.
Don't think this condition will last forever. A new generation of neo-Marxists is being minted, and the potential for a new round of Bolshevism and Stalinism, replete with gulags and execution rituals, grows in their hearts.

You need a dog!
You live with 2 cats?? Willingly?? This explans your EVERY problem!!
You know you can take them to the humane society. Better yet, get yourself a dog!! A real dog, not a "Paris Hilton mutt", but a Lab or a Shepard. He will gladly -- joyfully-- rid you of the cats. Then after you interact with the new-found companion for a few days, you will find two lumps beginning to grow between your legs -- don't worry, it's OK.
You will find yourself wanting to create things out of wood or steel.
You will become upset when you see a welfare queen spending YOUR tax dollars.
You will find women attractive.
You will find steak appealing.
You will find grilling that steak on a real charcoal fire EVEN more appealing!
You will begin to be curious about how the warm walnut stock of a 30-06 would feel in your hand.
You will begin to wonder about the origins of the universe and who is God.
You will understand the infield-fly rule and know the difference between a quarterback and a cornerback.
Beer will no longer scare you. (subsequently, white wine will be come less tasty)
Your family will become more important than yourself or your gay blue-haired neighbor.
You will have strong urges to punch some moron who has no background in the subject he's talking about when he is making ludicrous assertions for which he has no evidence... but you won't, because it is much more fun to have a beer with your buddies and laugh at the poor bastard!
And many other feelings that, in your current "2-cat" state, will seem odd
All this because you got a dog (who ran off the cats)

Love Love Love
I read with joy the angry ramblings of our frustrated friends on the Left. How must this "journalist" and his ilk feel, having no children (must keep up with the Mother Joneses), watching their socialist / communist dreams turn into Killing Fields, gulags, senstivity training, and mass graves? Fear, anger, vitriol. Their hearts are furnaces, filling the environment with their hatred. The hate pumps through through their yoga-fied bodies as they slurp capitalist ice cream and coffee believing these goods to be "socially conscious."
Now for my poem in honor of Blue State Man:
Oh, Blue State Man, we in this hellhole called "Amerika" are simple folk; please guide us with your fancy Northeast education. We worship your brilliance, as the mental work you perform in mere seconds exceeds our comprehension.
Oh, Blue State Man, how foolish we were to ignore your call for unilateral disarmament. How foolish we were to reject Communism. How foolish we were to oppose the terrorists. We should have engaged in "Conversation" with them and tried to accomodate their desire for the worldwide caliphate.
Down With Capitalism!

The Way Liberals think!
December 29, 2007 - 15:27 ET by pbthinkerIsn't it ironic that, if you can't win in the battle of ideas, you wish for a disaster to wipe out the competition. Just as the liberals were hoping for defeat in Iraq, they also hope that, to prove they're correct about global warming, we not only flood the planet, but wipe out people that disagree with them. I also find it pitiful that Gore says this isn't a political issue, when he's done everything possible to make it one. Amazingly, he's handled this just like the 2000 campaign, and hopefully with the same result.
It's too bad the left is so morally bankrupt, they would willingly print a commentary such as this. I have no idea why this hasn't been the subject of many more talk forums, on television, calling this person out, for what he is, and exposing his views to all the world. The fact is, in his little corner of the world, few people will know him for the hateful person he really is.

Doesn't he realize places away from the coast tend to average 500 to 1000 feet above sea level. "The Mean Elevation of the state of Oklahoma is 1300 feet above sea level". I see a huge opportunity...
December 29, 2007 - 18:52 ET by Clear thinkerWe should use this to our advantage. First we start a co-op of sorts, pool our monies, and get some giant lines of credit. Then we do a mass mailing to all those that have Ocean Front property explaining how the libs have figured out that their property will soon be under water, thereby making their property worthless. We then explain that we are willing to take their proprty off their hands now before the disaster strikes, at a huge discounted price. We then sit on the proprties for about 12-15 months. Then have an Ocean Front sale the likes of which has never been seen before. Everyone in the co-op get's their choice of the best properties and we make a bundle of money to boot by selling off the rest (once everyone realizes that this whole AGW was just a scam)!

If he is so happy with the impending demise of parts of humanity then he should be driving a Hummer.
The real "silver lining" is that conservatives are out breeding liberals. I can't remember but I think it was something like 3 to 1.
So in a decade or two, when the earth temperature cools down a bit, there will only be a handfull of liberal left to feel the embarrassment of the global warming hoax.

Imagine the MSM reaction if any conservative suggested that a dirty bomb over NYC, Boston, SF, LA, Chicago or Philadelphia isn't neccessarily a bad thing.
Flawed logic?
December 31, 2007 - 07:31 ET by carolina conservativeOr conservatives could apply the same logic to abortion.
I would guess that the majority of people getting abortions are liberals. And children, probably more often than not, will adopt the same (or a similar) political philosophy of their parents. So if more liberals are aborting their children, we're shrinking the liberal gene pool. So shouldn't we all be pro-choice?
Maybe this article will convince them that they need to shut their mouths about AGW so conservatives won't want to stop it, and therefore will all be wiped out. Whatever it takes to get them to shut up about the farce of AGW.
Another flaw in this moron's (read liberal's) "logic" is that the globe warming due to AGW is a very slowly occurring event. So I think the conservatives affected by his hopeful scenario would probably have enough time to pack up their belongings and move to higher ground.
