Gore: Scientists Disagreeing with Climate Alarmism Tied to Big Oil

As NewsBusters reported Thursday, over 400 scientists in 2007 "voiced significant objections to major aspects of the so-called ‘consensus' on man-made global warming."

Predictably, Nobel Laureate Al Gore dismissed this historic Senate report by stating through a representative that some of these esteemed scientists from around the world have connections to Big Oil, and, therefore, their opinions should be ignored.

Pretty amazing coming from a man that likely has made what some estimate is $100 million in the past seven years selling this canard to the public, wouldn't you agree?

As reported by the Washington Times Friday (emphasis added):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓
After a quick review of the report, Gore spokeswoman Kalee Kreider said 25 or 30 of the scientists may have received funding from Exxon Mobil Corp.

Exxon Mobil spokesman Gantt H. Walton dismissed the accusation, saying the company is concerned about climate-change issues and does not pay scientists to bash global-warming theories.

"Recycling of that kind of discredited conspiracy theory is nothing more than a distraction from the real challenge facing society and the energy industry," he said.

Honestly, that someone who just received a Nobel Peace Prize, and has so much to gain from climate alarmism, could be allowed to dismiss such a report as being solely driven by personal greed should offend Americans on both sides of the political aisle as well as the manmade global warming debate.

After all, the position espoused by alarmists like Gore and his sycophants in the media is that the science is settled, and the debate is over. What this report clearly showed was that nothing could be further from the truth.

With that in mind, isn't it media's responsibility to look carefully at what was presented in this Senate report, and begin questioning those on the alarmist side to verify that their position is not just tenable, but unassailable?

In fact, isn't that indeed what journalism is supposed to be about: asking tough questions in order to inform the public?

Or, are those questions only to be asked if they further a political agenda?

Al is like the

Al is like the Clintons...

He attacks the scientists, not the science.

The Clintons attacked their accusers, not the accusations.

And that surprises you why?

That is the typical far left wingnut/Democrat Party playbook modus operandi:

Seek to discredit those with whom you disagree in order to diminish and marginalize them and to deflect attention away from what they are trying to say.

The so-called human-caused climate crisis is simply Algore's way to gain the leadership position he thinks he was cheated out of in 2000.

Just my $0.02

"...Recycling of that kind

"...Recycling of that kind of discredited conspiracy theory is nothing more than a distraction..."

That's being more polite to Gore than is warranted.  Gore's statement is a LIE.  He is a LIE.  The entire APGW socialist movement, from Green(red)peace to the Sierra Club, to the U.N., is a cabal of liars.

C'mon Al, run for president.  Let's see you explain how you can legitimately accuse others of having financial motivations for denying APGW, while you make millions promoting it.

"After a quick review of the report, Gore spokeswoman Kalee Kreider said 25 or 30 of the scientists may have received funding from Exxon Mobil Corp."

Okay, the means 370-375 of them didn't receive funding from Exxon. That's like, almost a consensus. How much funding has Algore and his posse of global warming scientists received from pro-global warming entities, and how come that number never gets reported in the MSM?

Soulless Hucksters

Reading the website generationim.com is an object in futility.  Plenty of words but very little substance.  It's as if Gore had a computer analyze advertisements and spit out the most attractive, most positive, most definitive words with which they then assembled their website in Scrabble fashion.

And talk about bald-faced greed!  This new cabal of Gordon Gecko worshippers represent some of the most destructive forces in business - corporate raiders - who care less about people than profits for themselves.  Gore obviously has a man crush on daddy figure Armond Hammer and longs to be him, or the new Rothschild or Rockefeller.

The website, like Gore, is a pant load of crap.

Killing them with kindness isn't working.  Time to get scrappy with the Donkeys.

Well, all's I have to say to that is ...

After a brief review of

After a brief review of your statement it obvious that a part of you is tied to Big oil...That is all.

"The only thing you should feel when shooting insurgents is the rifle recoil"

drill, That was so funny!

drill,

That was so funny! My brother use to say that when he was little...funny then, funny now.

Thanks, Gore. Now your fear-mongering is disprovable

Showing that the majority of global warming protestors are not receiving grants from big oil is pretty easy to prove. That's the great thing about real science - you can't hide from empirical facts.

Hold on just a minute Al.

You, your mother and your father made millions off you all's connection to Armand Hammer's Occidental Petroleum -- you still do and you even bragged about how much money your mother has made. Your parents were poor Tennessee farmers until your father was elected to congress and then somehow your family got rich -- right after meeting up with Mr. Hammer.  Gore you are a fraud! Anyone who believes otherwise needs to educate themselves about this snake oil salesman before buying his "the sky is falling, the sky is falling" sack of @#$%.

no fraud here

just a shrewd business man

It's all about the dough

Once again, he doesn't try

Once again, he doesn't try to rebuff or refute or discuss or debate the issue at hand, but tries to discredit the other side. A typical neoprogressive tactic.

Why doesn't someone bring up the fact that he is tied to Big Carbon Credits?

You support the troops by supporting the mission! If you don't support the mission, have the guts to say you don't support the troops.

This "tied to Big Oil"

This "tied to Big Oil" nonsence is just a liberal nee-jerk reaction to critisism, they are implying corrpution by it. I think that if they can even remotely use the accusation toward an opponent or critic the use it. We are all "tied to Big Oil" by "degrees of seperation." If it weren't for Big Oil this country would be in the dark agess

I'm tied to big oil

I'm tied to big oil everytime I fill up my gas tank. I think everyone who has a car could claim the same.

Do you realize how much it costs to run for office? More than any honest man could afford. -Montgomery Burns

By that standard, Al must really be tied to big oil! Just think of the bill for those jets and all the SUV's.

What a hypocrite. He's tied

What a hypocrite. He's tied to Big Liberalism. Big Liberalism will kill America if let run wild, so I'm more partial to pointing out his tie to that.

It's Al's opinion that should be ignored

Given.......Scientist Opinions, and Al Gore's Opinion, you would do well to Ignore Al in favor of Science.

Hey, Al, come back home to Tennessee, and check out your Heating Bill.........It's winter and Global warming is nowhere to be found in the nothern Hemisphere.

Gorester is just in it for

Gorester is just in it for the money money money along with a lot of others....at our expense via Congress and of course he has other venues.... Silicon Valley ect....

I just love the picture of him in this story and am still laughing...

Fits him perfectly!

Who cares where they're

Who cares where they're linked to, Al! It's a free country. Besides, you have some pretty weird links as well...

The Rocky Mountain Collegian: Illustrating Idiocy

Let's look at the stupidity of that staement by the Gore

spokes-hole.

  1. So, even if the research was funded by big oil, so what? Is the science sound? Has it been peer reviewed? If those are true, the funding source is irrelevent.
  2. Who funds big AGW? Liberal/progressive organizations like Greenpeace, Sierra Club, George Soros Foundation, ThinkProgress (Clinton), Media Matters (also Clinton). I wonder if they have a political agenda?
  3. Finally, most Americans aren't buying into this snake oil that Gore is selling. He's getting desparate. The problem is a$$holes like Schwartzenegger are ignorant enough and selfish enough to ruin California's economy over this hoax.

Sarc on

Kudos for Al, using scientific fact against these greedy men full of lies. Too bad for these unscientific fools who simply attacked the messenger that they had no scientific basis to stand on.

Going Green?

Which for the Goracle means green as in $$$. I give the flip-flopping, socialist credit though...he's stayed very relavent and gotten even richer. Not bad for a monotone, overfed grocery clerk.

With most of Europe, the MSM and Hollywood imbibing his kool-aid and in turn ramming it down our throats daily it is tough to wave off. My bet is that it will in time whither much the way all the enviro cumbaya BS did in the late 70's. And our boy Gorel will be counting his loot in his huge carbon emitting mansion in Tennessee...laughing.

All the Skeptics work for big oil!

They all work for Exxon, and have the paychecks to prove it.

That's some orignal deep thinking.

Your intellectual contribution to this discussion is outstanding. Keep up the fair work.

You should listen to the media and actors more

They know what they are talking about and I respect their opinion.

After all, Leo DiCaprio is "King of the World".

Actors??!?!?

Why anyone would value an actors opinion is rediculous!

Most of these people dont have a degree. I would rather value facts than opinions anyday

Change? You mean from a

Change? You mean from a capitalist system to a socialist one? No thanks.

How do you think they get their funding?

Anyone who challenges AGW is a paid shill for big oil or so they say. That is what the media tells me.

Oh come now Al! BIG oil?

BIG oil? So are you disqualified because you represent BIG gov't?

He even had actors endorse him so he must be right.

Now, now...

Don't attack the messenger simply because he did.

Speaking of big government, why arn't any of the democrat contenders hitching on to AGW as a campaign platform? Their silence speaks volumes.

What a crock of %^$&^#

Al Gore is tied to Union Carbide. Does that make him "disqualified"?

Anyone who tries to shutdown the discussion on scientific studies and their possible remifications is scared of the truth.

The day that "politician" became a career choice is the day we started losing the Republic. Let's get it back! Alan Keyes '08.

Hypocrite

Pretty amazing coming from a man that likely has made what some
estimate is $100 million in the past seven years selling this canard to
the public, wouldn't you agree?

Agree. Gore is an arrogant fart. There was a time when allowing him a little leeway seemed fair, when I thought he really believed there was imminent danger. But now, watching his purse and waistline grow fat, while he disses the U.S. at every turn, ignoring opposing scientific studies, and dismissing any contrary opinion, I've come to think of him as the quintessential flim-flam man.

The man should be investigated for fraud for a start. He and his powerful buddies like Arnold Swartzeneggar whose misguided, maniacal environmental policies continue to drive up the price of food and automobiles are endangering and stressing our lives--all to sacrifice at the altar of the phantom "global warming".

Unbelievable.

Everyone involved in the

Everyone involved in the fight needs to take a different tact. All of the scientist or politicians that ARE tied to Big Oil need to say "well, yeah"! Hit this idiot Algore head on! When he says "Big Oil", simply hit back with "Big GE" or "Big BP".

In fact BP, British PETROLIUM, is also a big player in the solar and wind market. In fact BP runs ads all of the time talking about alternative energy, but never mentions the "P" is for petrolium.

The problem we have, is we have a brain, and use it. It's obvious that the masses don't, or they wouldn't fall for this BS in the first place! So, instead of trying to prove the science is wrong, which is a no brainer, just point out all of the millions Algore, and his group of "scientists" are pullin' in from "Big Global Warming". Most people understand the concept of "follow the money", and if put in those terms, will start to reject "His Warmingness" and his minions.

At any rate, our side has to make more noise than Algore and his band of moonbats. And no one should be afraid of these people any longer!

Hey Noel

It's a "metaphysical certitude" that Al Gore would have this response.  :)

Merry Christmas, and please, turn off those Christmas lights.

AlGore's Holiday Greeting...

...Al Gore would have this response: "Merry Christmas, and please, turn off those Christmas lights."

No, it would probably be something more like this:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral, celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all; and a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2008, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great (not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country or is indeed the only "AMERICA" in the western hemisphere), and without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical disability, religious faith, choice of computer platform, or sexual preference of the wishee.

Legal Disclaimer: By accepting this agreement, you are accepting these terms:

  • This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal (much like my concession of the 2000 Presidential election). It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher.
  • This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

And please turn off those Holiday lights.

Tom.... HO! HO!

ROFL!

Beautiful...perfect...and all that jazz!

Feel free to use it...

I received that last year from a liberal friend in Pittsburgh (minus the gratuitous slap at Gore's non-conceding concession). Her e-mail read, "A holiday greeting for my Democrat friends," followed by that monstrosity; then immediately below, "A holiday greeting for my Republican friends," followed by "Merry Christmas!"

I suggest we all use it as a friendly poke at our liberal friends this holiday season! (Just don't forget to delete the gratuitous ... ah, you know the rest.)

(And so am I.)

The world's hardest job

After a quick review of the report, Gore spokeswoman Kalee Kreider...

This woman has my complete empathy. Her job is to defend Al Gore and not look stupid at the same time.

Right, like AGWr's don't

Right, like AGWr's don't get funding and support from "Evil Big Companies."

Ever hear of BP, General Electric, Caterpiller, 3M and Ford? How many commercials have you seen trumpeting fossil fuels as opposed to trumpeting how "Green" they are?

Don't forget powerful universities and research centers get big dough for pushing AGW.

P.S. Even Enron got into the act before their lack of gumption killed them.

Envirowackos have infiltrated industry everywhere.

Maybe we should not listen

Maybe we should not listen to anyone who is getting big bucks for what they say. Oh wait, you are first on the list Gore! He is such a hypocrite it pains me

Just a couple of comments

I read this, through Drudge, and was amazed that's all Gore could say.  25 to 30, which is less than 10%, get some money from Exxon/Mobil.  What happened to the 100% of his group that is making money from their theories, either by carbon credit scams or by funding from other sources.

The people that Inholfe is talking about are willing to say this and risk funding, which says more about who's right in this argument.

Secondly, if Gore had anything to add to the debate, he would have done it.  He has nothing, but the harsh political rhetoric he's been employing for the past year, and he's rapidly going down the tubes.

Does this remind anyone of the 2000 election, where Gore seemed to find a way to screw it up?  The worst way to win, on an issue as important as this, is the normal Democrat political way of demogoguery,  lies and deceipt, which Gore has been proven to do on many occasions.  He's now getting caught in his exaggerations (much like in 2000) and they've been documented and put on tape, with his joke of a movie.  He can't say he's been taken out of context since millions have viewed his lies.  Personally, I'm hoping the Nobel Prize Winner is screwed and sinking rapidly.

Democrats: Specializing in "high tech lynching" since 1987.

Putting the Lie to Global Warming

Noel,

I'm not a scientist but there is a simple test to put the lie to the global warming thingie.

Every weather station in the world has historical highs and lows for every day of the year going back for however long that station has been in existence.

On any given day the high and low temperature recorded that day is the highest, lowest or somewhere in between historical records for that day.

There has to be a way to count the number of record highs and lows (normalized for the number of years that station has been in existence) recorded by state, region, country or continent in any given month, quarter, season or year.

If there is global warming then the hockey stick effect would show the number of record highs increasing and the number of record lows decreasing.  DUH!

Even Gore could compile this data.  Could it be that this simple test disproves his premise?

You are right about one

You are right about one thing:  you are no scientist.

Your thinking on this matter is based on an imperfect understanding of statistical sampling:  For your reasoning to be valid, the data samples must be approximately uniformly distributed over some significant interval of interest.  In the case of global climate, we are talking about an interval millions of years long.  The data samples you are referring to are all collected from the last 150 years of that interval.  They tell you nothing about what the actual climate extremes have been over any significant period of time.  In fact, its an almost certain bet none of the record highs or lows represent anywhere near the extreme highs or lows that have actually occurred at that location in the interval of interest.

We also Have our own Al

The Politics of Science

The real shame here is the intrusion of politics into science.  By allowing politics in, it is possible to attribute alterior motives to dissent - hence those with opposing views are obviously being paid by big bad oil.

The other problem is when scientifically ignorant morons impose their adgendas on areas of science where true facts and data could be critical to understanding an issue.
