Here's something you don't see every day: the daughter of the President calling her dad while doing an interview on national television.
Yet, that's what happened on "Ellen" Wednesday (taped Tuesday) when host Ellen Degeneres didn't believe guest Jenna Bush could just pick up the phone and call her dad any time she wanted.
Marvelously, Jenna ended up being right.
What follows is the partial transcript of this absolutely charming phone call (video available here):
JENNA BUSH: This is the Ellen Degeneres Show.
PRESIDENT BUSH: Well, that's great!
ELLEN DEGENERES, HOST: How's it going?
PRESIDENT BUSH: It's going great, Ellen. How's my little girl doing?
DEGENERES: Oh, she's great. She's scared she's going to get in trouble, because I just said, ‘Is it easy to just pick up the phone and call your dad anytime?'
She said, ‘Yes.'
So I said, ‘Okay well, let's call him, and then she goes, ‘Oh', and now she's scared that she's not going to get any Christmas presents.
JENNA BUSH: Dad?
PRESIDENT BUSH: Yes, baby?
JENNA BUSH: Are you mad?
PRESIDENT BUSH: No, not at all. I'm excited to talk to you. I'm glad to talk to Ellen.
DEGENERES: Look, we are showing a picture of you holding your daughters when they were just born. That's beautiful. Alright, well, we just wanted to say Merry Christmas, and we thought you'd want to say Merry Christmas to our audience.
PRESIDENT BUSH: I do want to say Merry Christmas to your audience, and I want to tell my little girl I love her.
JENNA BUSH: I love you too, Dad.
Makes you wonder how the press are going to bash the President for this adorable event, doesn't it?

December 5, 2007 - 17:22 ET by BourbeauPresident Bush is a loving father and husband, and it's not an act. Wow! I've said this before, and I'll say it again: President Bush is a very decent human being and has ably carried the burdens of his office. The MSM and leftists can call him anything they want but the man stands tall and never, ever gives them the satisfaction that they have the better of him. Him and his family have served this country very well, despite the despicable rhetoric from the left. I'm delighted that Ellen and her audience got a chance to see him in his true self, being a proud father.

Hell, we could even remove Bush and have it choose any current Republican in power, have it automatically advance the year to a correct election year, and it can be used any time a Republican or conservative takes high office.
Then, take the resulting output and post it to Huffington's little corner of treason or the DailyKOS, in any random thread at any time, at least once a day. Our software robot would never be detected...

Come on, Jenna just wouldn't do that.

There's no ideological content to this, so don't go chalking it up to "BDS"...but give me a break, you honestly think Jenna would call up her president father, knowing it would be broadcast no matter what was said, and not let him know ahead of time? Please. Say what you will about the Bush twins, they're not idiots.

You have it... plenty here do (including balboa) and you will always assume the worst of the president regardlesss of what he does. This is an admittadly small example but an example none the less. Bush couldn't possibly just be a good father nor could his offspring possibly be just a good daughter, It MUST have been staged!!
Yeah I get ya bud.
"There are two types of people in this country; those who provide freedom and those who enjoy it." MM says...

December 6, 2007 - 12:19 ET by JasonCfirst of all, you don't know much about my opinion of bush, and I have defended him against the more virulent strains of liberal knee-jerkism on this site many a time. The very invention of the term BDS, which is little more than conservative hysteria, conversely suggests that there couldn't possibly BE any good reason to dislike Bush or his policies; it's all just groupthink and irrational hatred, right? Half the posters on this site throw it around so indiscriminately, it has lost all meaning.
And since you clearly don't understand what I wrote, I'm not calling into question Bush's ability to be a good father. But you actually think that Jenna would put him in the position of being broadcast on television without letting him know about it? There are about a dozen good reasons why that would be stupid. It has NILL to do with whether he's actually a good father; and I wouldn't feel the need to comment on it if everyone on this board wasn't fawning over it like a Hallmark card with a puppy on it.

Since I "didn't understand" your post...
December 6, 2007 - 12:54 ET by MightyMouth... sooo I re-read it. You are basically saying that Jenn knew she was going to be asked to call her father the president. Knowing this would happen she contacted him ahead of time and they worked out what they would say. Ellen was party to this(perhaps it was even her idea) and went along insisting that Jenna call Dad. Jenna hems and haws about it but finally gives in and calls Bush. They talk per the script they had agreed to. And they all did this because:
Bush, Jenna, Ellen, her producers, scab writers and the sponsers of the show wanted to make Bush look like father of the Year and Jenna a good little daddy's girl. Ok I get that... I don't believe it but I can see where you're coming from.
I choose to believe Ellen tried to get Bush to say something stupid that you moonbats could criticize him for. But you are free to be naive if you wish.

What Leon? No one fooled
December 6, 2007 - 10:05 ET by ArchConservativeWhat Leon? No one fooled you. You never believed it anyways did you? And by the way...what the hell are you talking about??? Bush never lied about Iraq and he sure as hell never lied about Iran. Do some investigation on the report. Listen to agencies outside the US and you'll see that they say that Iran is moving forward towards their nuclear goal.
Read the other articles here on NB about Iran trying to import materials to achieve this goal. Do you really believe that Iran is going to stop their program? Do you think that he talks about destroying the west and Israel and doesn't want to actually do it?
Leon, I respect that you have a strong hatred for President Bush and you think that he's a liar. But please, do research and you'll find that HRC did INDEPENDENT research and found that Iraq needed to be stopped. She was never lied to. She did her own research and found exactly what GWB did. I was there. Trust me, there was ample evidence for our intervention.
I know you will come back with something glib, but I had to respond to your comment.

December 5, 2007 - 19:26 ET by msh1973I would guess that the reason President Bush's daughters can call any time is because they probably have a private number that is set up just for them. Kinda like the "Bat Phone"! :)
See Post Above
December 5, 2007 - 20:33 ET by Del DolemonteI posted a link to what the zanies at Democrat Underground are saying about this-one of the commenters actually said that this was a credible possibility. They cited someone whose Dad was a major executive and had exactly the same arrangement with his kids.
I'm sure that poster was immediately tombstoned...

I don't think you'd like to find out that I was Jesus.

Wow. what a surprise. NOT!
December 5, 2007 - 21:42 ET by c5thenAny parent is not surprized by this and in fact, would be surprised if it were anyother way. Of course they have the direct line. Their his daughters. DUH!
I'm sure that Chelsea Clinton had the same arangement.
Psychologically, people have to try and de-humanize someone that they want to hate. Any admission of their humanity is vehimently resisted so as to mantain the fantasy.

December 6, 2007 - 11:11 ET by CJK51This was a pretty funny moment. While I do not watch her show regularly or have much of a line on her politics, Ellen DeGeneres is an excellent stand-up comedian.
"OMFG, Bush lied, soldiers
December 6, 2007 - 11:45 ET by d4man"OMFG, Bush lied, soldiers died and what a waste of taxpayer monies" is what the left usually says
I voted for 43 and while I disagree with some of his policies, I still think 43 is better then any Democrat would have been.
It was an absolutely beautiful call between father and daughter. My first thought when I saw the headline is "what the heck is Jenna Bush doing on the Ellen show?"
Of course, this would be a non-issue if it where Chelsea and the MSM would have adored it. Although, if it where Slick Willy, the phone would have gone un-answered, because Slick Willy would have been busy in bed with some other woman.

Jenna phone call
December 6, 2007 - 12:56 ET by soosanYou can tell a lot about someone by their children. (The whole Ellen bit was a breath of fresh air.) I hope my kids feel the same way about me. GWB loves and is loved by the kids. This is a good thing.
After reading the linked comments from the lefties I can't help but feel sorry for them. Does anything make them feel joy?

Balboa, JC, Leon, et al
December 6, 2007 - 13:29 ET by Noel SheppardBalboa, JC, Leon, et al:
I must confess a tad of despair concerning the view that this was staged. I saw the entire sequence last evening -- don't remember which station -- and Jenna was clearly afraid that her dad was going to be mad at her.
I'm just as cynical as the next guy -- probably much more so, actually -- but disagree quite fervently with those who smell a rat in this. The gal who first picked up the phone -- Lindsay, I think? -- certainly didn't seem to know what was going on, nor did Laura.
This is a tremendously delightful and charming moment. Must we degrade it by questioning its sincerity and veracity? ns

December 6, 2007 - 13:41 ET by Jack BauerHey ns, it was considerably less staged than that never to be forgotten hideous shot of two pasty-white lard-a**es dancing on some beach.
Remember how there just happened to be network camera crews on-hand to catch the "spontaneous" Presidential two left feet twirlings and shufflings.
Don't know about anyone else, but I couldn't eat anything transfatty for a week.
cute Jenne Bush
December 6, 2007 - 13:44 ET by MrShyAnd she's cute, to boot.
And I'm not saying this because she looks more like the guy I have a man crush on than her mom (who's also one of the better looking First Ladies.)

Yes, there is definitely something very attractive about Laura. I think it's the marvelous gleam in her eyes. There's a warmth that radiates from this woman that is tremendous infectious.
BTW: What's the deal with the "I still love NewsBusters" tag? ns
Noel... haha...
December 6, 2007 - 13:55 ET by MrShyI'll probably change it again soon.
It was after all the brew-haha over the Shywear link I had as my tag for a short time, that all started w/ the "Dana Parino could wear Shywear" silliness... but alas, it was advertising, which violates NB's T&C, so I removed it :p So, then I put....
