Okay, sports fans, there's a lot to discuss this final weekend of the College Football regular season. Before we get to some very exciting matchups, assuming the favorites win today, how are you feeling about the projected BCS games? Does one of the most exciting CFB seasons in history have the potential of ending with tremendously boring bowl games, or is all this new blood vying for the National Championship exciting you?
I mean, with absolutely no disrespect to Mizzou and WV, does a Tigers-Mountaineers matchup for the Title do it for you? (Personally, I love it, and find it to be the perfect ending to the perfect season!)
On to the games: V-Tech and Boston College. I'm very excited about this game, maybe mostly for the Hokies to be in such a big game at the end of the year given what this school has gone through. GO HOKIES!!!
Tennessee at LSU: Could this be a big letdown game for the Tigers after last week's stunning OT loss? Tough for me to be impartial, for the son of one of my trainers is a Vol! GO TENNESSEE!!!
I know people will think I'm crazy, but the Mountaineers better be ready to play today, because the Panthers, after a very disappointing 4-7 season, would love nothing more than knocking rival West Virginia out of the Title game.
Same for Mizzou. Sooners would love this upset big time.
Ditto the Bruins. This game is no cake-walk for USC.

December 1, 2007 - 11:44 ET by ricklailYour Gators didn't do a good enough job on FSU last week. Instead of sending the elder Bowden into retirement he is about to sign a contract for as long as he wants to coach with a rasie that will pay him 2.5 mil a year and another 1 million when he does decide to hang it up.
I go along with you on VA Tech Noel. It has been a tough year in Blacksburg. I feel a small connection to there. Our pastor is a grad.
I have a real problem today. The Heels play Kentucky at 2. The ACC Championship game starts at 1. Which one to watch. I guess the old previous channed button will get a work out today.
Who wiil win the Pac 10 and go to the Rose Bowl? Is this a complicated mess?
Hopefully LSU can send Phat Phil to packing his bags. No other SEC team has done it yet.

December 2, 2007 - 02:37 ET by RESTLESS 1Uh, Noel, if I may, I must take umbrage with your comment in regards to the NBA. If case you haven't noticed, the team with the MOST class in any proffesional sport has won three of the last five NBA titles and four out of nine. While I agree that there is too much "me, me, me" in proffesional sports, as a resident of San Antonio, I find it very refreshing to be able to call the Spurs my team. There is no I in the spurs organization, and believe me, it starts from the very top.
David Robinson took a sizable cut in pay to make sure the organization had money to bring in talent like Manu Ginobli and Tony Parker, and Tim Duncan. Tim did the same thing this year, making sure he retires a Spur. Almost the entire roster is getting underpaid, when compared to other players on other teams, and yet they prefer to stay with an organization that has a proven track record. Michael Finley signed for less money to come here, so not everybody in the NBA is just about the money. (Yes, in Finley's case, mark cuban footed most of that bill), but Michael wanted a championship.
I guess in the end, all I am saying is, sometimes, the good guys win. GO SPURS GO!!!!!
BTW Noel, I do love the sports threads. I think the editors and MRC have created, without a doubt, the best blog on the internet. Your sports threads definitely add to the fun of being a NB.

But yes, I love the Spurs myself (and usually don't like multiple-winning, dynasty teams) but they are all classy, smart players, and you're right that the people at the top obviously look for real character and integrity and IQ, over hops and skillz. I think Robinson set the tone for that franchise, too.
The only blemish is Robert Horry's mean trip-up of Nash, as far as them all being upstanding... and claims of dirty play by that other guy, who's name eludes me.
But they all sacrifice, both on the court and off with their saleries, and will come off the bench -- any of them, on a given day -- if it's best for the team (see: Stephan Marbury and his reaction to just one benching :p)

December 2, 2007 - 04:23 ET by RESTLESS 1Don't feel too bad, the Hawks have given the Spurs hell over the past few years. And, I think you guys have a few good wins under your belt this year as well.
I do feel bad for Mr. Shy though. Losing 109-59 to anybody is just embarassing.
I didn't feel bad at all
December 2, 2007 - 04:45 ET by JerI didn't feel bad at all about the 109-59 Boston massacre ot the Knicks. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving bunch. [And I say that as one who grew up wishing someone would shove that cigar up Red Aurbach's a$$.]

More on the Spurs
December 2, 2007 - 03:53 ET by UnsaneHave some pity on me, I am surrounded by myopic, delusional Rockets fans (yes, their team has made some great strides, but they have a long ways to go yet). The Jazz hatred shall long remain. To wit, I was at a bar here in Houston watching the last game of the Conference Finals against them, and anytime the camera closed on on the Jazz bench, watching the Spurs show them how to play them game, bar patrons were treated to a maniacal Spurs fan screaming "ARE YOU GONNA CRY???" at the TV among other related comments (that Spurs fan being me, of course).
Dallas does not worry me at all. A GREAT regular season with MUCH potential to be sure, but Nowitzki is nowhere to be found after the middle of April. Dallas goes as Nowitzki goes, and when he's not around, the whole thing falls apart.
You know, all the whining and crying about the shape of modern sports today, and how the Spurs are a breath of fresh air in that regard, reminds me a little of the whole "quality programming" argument in regards to television. The Spurs have a team virtually devoid of egos...a group of character guys dedicated to winning. Oh, and did I mention ZERO drama? Yet, people within and without the media constantly moan and whine about how boring the Spurs are...in spite of them being what many people CLAIM to want. (Much the same with the "quality programming" on TV argument..people cry for it, and when they get it, they don't watch.)
Res tantum valet quantum vendi potest.
Unsane, is there any risk
December 2, 2007 - 04:06 ET by JerUnsane, is there any risk attached to being a "maniacal Spurs fan" in a Houston bar?

December 2, 2007 - 04:19 ET by RESTLESS 1I would think Unsane was fairly safe. For all of the words back and forth, San Antonio and Houston must get along. A great deal of Houstonians spend
