Supreme Derangement: Bush Tops Hollywood’s Coldest People List

Photo of Noel Sheppard.

In our never-ending quest to identify the worst - nay best - example of Bush Derangement Syndrome in the media, NewsBusters disrespectfully offers the following.

Even though George W. Bush is not an actor, he not only made a listing of Hollywood's coldest people, he topped it.

You've got to be kidding!

As reported by the Associated Press Wednesday (h/t NB reader tracyz20, emphasis added):

The online magazine Film Threat placed Bush at the top of its "Frigid 50," an annual ranking of the "least-powerful, least-inspiring and least-intriguing people in Hollywood" in contrast to the "hot" lists that celebrity magazines often compile.

Thinking the AP must have been mistaken, I ambled over to Film Threat's website, and confirmed the lunacy (emphasis added):

1. President George W. Bush
With all due respect to Hollywood, the mighty W is as much a cinema celebrity as the next despotic tyrant. Whether it be a thinly veiled proxy of Bush portrayed in a film ("Transformers," "American Dreamz"), a documentary appearance ("Sicko," "Fahrenheit 9/11," "The Power of Nightmares," "No End in Sight"), a fictionalized accounting in a film ("The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course," "DC 9/11: Time of Crisis," "Death of a President," "The Master of Disguise," "Postal") or even a television show or two ("That's My Bush!", "Lil' Bush," "Robot Chicken," "South Park"), President George W. Bush has been a fixture on the big and small screens for the length of his historically tragic run.

By this time in 2008, however, George W. will have a successor to the political trash-pile, and save for a possible war crime tribunal in his future or a retrospective on where America went wrong, the man's celebrity career is over with. No more Michael Moore cinematic slapfests, no more cute comedy shows about what a moron he is. Maybe a biopic, but it won't be anytime soon.
Anti-Freeze: Figure out another way to circumvent the established system of checks and balances and ramrod through a resolution or three that'll keep him in power as long as he wants... if he hasn't already done that.
You think these folks type e-mail messages to their mothers with the same keyboards they used to produce this detritus?

Wow

He should be considered hot...all the crap produced to put him down has crashed and burned.

Cheap P.R. stunt to attract more visitors and attention.

And Bush should be damn

And Bush should be damn proud - he even beats Jesus?! Wow...

"Cheap P.R. stunt to attract more visitors and attention." - Balboa

Yeah, they don't really believe all of this crud. They just wrote it.

I should be atop that

I should be atop that list. Certainly, Hero Squad is far less powerful and inspiring to Hollywood than is President Bush. Why, I suspect most of those people don't even know who I am.

**My Daughter at the WWII Memorial

strange

I was under the impression that Hollywood loved despotic tyrants. They all seem to swoon over Fidel and Hugo and even Saddam had Sean Penn doing PR for him.

These morons wouldn't know tyranny 'til they were strung up from the nearest lamp post.

Not that I want to exactly

Not that I want to exactly be defending Hollywood here, but I read Film Threat's articles and reviews regularly, and the subtitle of the site is "Hollywood's Indie Voice", ie although they review Hollywood films and phenomena, their primary perspective is that of the outsider. More than most reviewers, they take Hollwood films to task for staying within the typical, predictable confines of plot convention and two-dimensional character development, and generally hold up foreign and independent cinema as standards of originality. Hence their making a top 50 list that is inherently negative, rather than the usual hero worship you get from supermarket rags.

Also, to be fair, shouldn't we coin the phrase Hillary Derangement Syndrome (HDS) at some point? The largely irrational hatred of Sen. Clinton expressed on this site and elsewhere is way out of proportion with both her platform and the fact that she hasn't even been nominated yet.

Hillary Derangement Syndrome??

"Hasen't been nominated yet"? Where have you been for the last 20 years? What did you think, Hillary just crawled from under a rock to run for president (well maybe). Regardless, her "derangement" has been well documented for decades!

"There are two types of people in this country; those who provide freedom and those who enjoy it." MM says...

Given the nauseatingly

Given the nauseatingly dishonest, flattering praise Hillary is given by the media, the hatred of her is entirely proportional and rational.  Nice try, though.

More than most reviewers, they take Hollwood films to task for staying within the typical, predictable confines of plot convention and two-dimensional character development, and generally hold up foreign and independent cinema as standards of originality.

Interesting that Film Threat would get hung up on such minor issues as plot and character development.  Wouldn't Flynt's cinematic exploits typically reduce plot to the delivery of a pizza or the repair of a jacuzzi?

What does Larry Flynt have

What does Larry Flynt have to do with Film Threat?

Film Threat was (and I'm

Film Threat was (and I'm sure still is) property of LFP.

Missing the point

Jason C - remember the whole point of the Newsbusters site.  It is not really the issue that a website which calls themselves "Hollywood's Indie Voice" would make a list like this and put Bush at the top, I wouldn't be at all surprised if there was some sort of official Hollywood website that did this. The point is that the AP actually published this so that publications such as where I saw it in amNY (a free NYC daily) could pick it up and print it on the entertainment page under "Buzz Worthy" items.  The point is the media will pick up any story - or non-story in this case - and publish it, as long as it fits their agenda.

Jason C Let's be HONEST here

How many times can one say 'I can't recall' and mean it? Seriously dude... Bush is hated for 'stealing elections'. Clinton is DESPISED for logical reasons. Most of which her embracing of everything contrary to our beautiful country was founded on. You only need listen to her for a minute to understand clearly what 'reform the government' means to her. What business does Hillary have even being a Senator? Please tell me what qualifications she has because I can't think of a damn thing.

Oh, One more thing.  Ask yourself how many times you've witnessed liberals wanting to kill the Administration.  Every time the media highlights another non story based on a 'crime' of the Bush administration, and the individual supposedly behind it, the wacko libs IMMEDIATELY begin hating them as if they had personally burned down their house.  How many times have you heard a... Non liberal seriously call for the death of another politician?

How many times can one say 'I can't recall' and mean it?

Good question. Alberto? Care to answer? No?

Good one, Bal...

And it comes on a day I'm not too-thrilled with the Department of "Justice" which claims not to fear honest money amid yet-another raid/theft/lawyer-welfare-program...Prediction: The lamestream media, if not ignoring the scandal, will once again show incredible ignorance and bias, and the left will not see that this just might be a First Amendment political speech issue right in front of their faces.

Yes, I'm sure Sandy Burglar

Yes, I'm sure Sandy Burglar has that phrase tucked in his pants somewhere, too.

HDS is out there, no

HDS is out there, no doubt.

Bush is unpopular, so of course the AP is going to pick up on this.

Linguistically though BDS

Linguistically though BDS refers to a group of People who are afflicted with derrangement. On the other hand, HDS refers to one specific individual who is derranged, namely Hillay.

Wow, you sure turned that

Wow, you sure turned that one around on me, you clever clever man.

does the title "coldest person" mean ...

he's done the most to combat global warming?

 I would like to be

I would like to be included on the coldest list.  Then Hollyweird certainly would get an ear full.

George Bush gets on all the good list.  It's just not fair.

What oh what

...are these sad little birdbrains going to do after January '09?

I think what mostly p**ses them off is that Bush really, truly couldn't care less what they think about him. Bill Clinton used to have them over for dinner and ask their opinions and stuff.

fish live in trees and eat pencils

Waitaminute!  Is he an idiot or an evil genius?  Is he a fascist tyrant or the "least powerful" (as listed above).

Does Bush Derangement Syndrome have a symptom that creates the "which way did he go, which way did he go?" mindstet?

When a liberal speaks, the truth is busy elsewhere.

Including George W. Bush in

Including George W. Bush in a list of Coldest People in Hollywood just shows that there is nothing, nothing that the left wingnuts can't turn into a Bush-bash.

No doubt they would include him in a list of "Most Hated Racers in NASCAR" or "Most Despised NFL Players."

Where there's a will, there's a way.

Oh no.. Not a Hollywood poll..

Those are so meaningful and indicative... Well that settles it; Bush needs to be impeached...

Sarc off

Do they REALLY think that highly of themselves? REALLY?

According to Film Threat's

According to Film Threat's website (quoted above,) President Bush has been portrayed in 2 films, had 4 documentary appearances, had 5 fictionalized accountings in film and 4 in television shows.

Film Threat is clearly mistaken. George Bush is not cold in Hollywood, it is clear from this listing that he is actually the hottest property in Hollywood!

!

But I bet they didn't pay him squat.

So then, can GWB sue these

So then, can GWB sue these Hollyweird movie companies for using him in their movies without permission!! I will...Royaltie$ mind you. Who's your Daddy now?!

This list was compiled by

This list was compiled by Film Threat Magazine.  Film Threat?  Last I heard, that was a Larry Flynt publication.  If you read some of the snarky comments about people like Jessica Alba and Jessica Biel, you can tell it's got that grubby, drooling little pimp's fingerprints all over it.  His staff has the Sharpie at the ready to circle their body fat.  So this is what that "Champion of the 1st Ammendment" does when he's not trolling in Senator's dumpsters sniffing the underwear of prostitutes.

Downright Cruel

I just checked out this website and found it an amazingly cruel and bitter site.  Granted, I'm not a big fan of some of the people on the list, but this was just an example of people who sit around and criticize people in cruel ways for no apparent reason.  I'm not against poking fun at people, but this site just seemed downright brutal.

Can we just stop paying attention to Hollywood now?  I think tonight I'm going to watch an old John Wayne film.

Hollyweird

President Bush should consider this an honor coming from Hollywierd. Just look at the people that make the Hollyweird left wing liberal list. This is the festering boil on the butt of America that is filled with all knowing superier liberal elitist that are almost completly devoid of any cranial capacity. I would be extremly concerned only if Bush was well liked in places like Bezerkly and Hollyweird.

The rest of the top ten was

The rest of the top ten was a good read, at least...

Film Threat sucks

I've never liked Film Threat.  It's a bunch of balding fanboys impressing each other with their snark.  What stinks about film commentary these days is that there's nothing between the leftist, pretentious "cinema is art" crowd and the overgrown geeks.

I can see it now, a bunch of

I can see it now, a bunch of fat, sweaty, perverse social outcasts who still live with their parents writing for---allgghhh----Larry----alllggghhh----Flynt.  Think "Comic Book Guy" from the Simpsons.   Worst.  Film.  Ever.

"least-powerful,

"least-powerful, least-inspiring and least-intriguing people in Hollywood"

how is it that someone can be all of this and #1 on a list (any list)?
