One sure sign the media are taking global warming alarmism too far is when fellow press members begin eviscerating green reporting.
Such was the case Monday when TV and radio writer Tom Jicha published a scathing review of NBC's "Green is Universal" campaign.
Rather than focus on the inanity of the cause - which Jicha did eventually address - the piece began by illustrating the delicious hypocrisy inherent in a major television network pretending to be environmentally friendly (emphasis added throughout, h/t NB reader Stu):
You have to wonder if NBC is driven as much by guilt as altruism. Show business is gluttonous when it comes to the use of energy.
If you've never seen a sound stage, imagine a facility about the size of the Bank Atlantic Center, requiring round-the-clock heating and cooling to safeguard electronic equipment. Then imagine a few dozen of these. That would be one major studio. There are several spread around Los Angeles.
Let's not forget the private jets used to ferry executives and performers hither and yon. When they hit the ground, stretch limos are waiting. Forget what you saw on Emmy night; show business uses hybrids only when cameras are around.
So does the Global Warmingist-in-Chief Al Gore, but that doesn't prevent him from winning a Nobel Peace Prize.
Speaking of His Lowness:
Unfortunately, there is ample evidence that Green Is Universal week is just another backdoor attempt to perpetuate the global warming hysteria embraced by many in Hollywood, even though they arrogantly fail to practice what they preach.
Exhibits A and B: Assuring the former vice president another Emmy, a role for Al Gore (as himself) was created in this week's 30 Rock; later Thursday, Jay Leno will again pay homage to Gore on The Tonight Show. (One caveat: If the Writer's Guild strike is ongoing, The Tonight Show could have to go to repeats.)
Interestingly, according to a show description provided by NBC, the 30 Rock episode in which Gore appears will feature a (different) character who becomes so obnoxious with his preaching on the environment that everyone comes to hate him. Love that Tina Fey's subversive sense of humor.
Now THAT could be must-see TV!

November 5, 2007 - 15:33 ET by iveseenitallIMHO, the worst part of the whole "green" thing is that it is disingenous and insincere. NBC couldn't care less about the environment. This is a ruse to cover a political agenda. They are rooting for the democrats. It is not just a coincidence that their "evironmental correspondent" wants everyone to vote for politicians who "support" evironmentalism. It is not a coincidence that they are now trying to reach the NFL audience. This is a sick, sad attempt to brainwash the public, particularly the young. It's Soviet-style propaganda right out of the Communist playbook. If they succeed in getting us to vote for the likes of Hillary Clinton, America is going to be in more trouble than it has ever known--- internal trouble. This is not a game anymore; it's nasty.

Heidi
November 5, 2007 - 15:49 ET by scamoramaYou'd think NBC would have learned its lesson after the "Heidi" fiasco: don't screw around with football fans.
Johnson & Nixon both tried to get political messages across during NFL games, and it backfired on them, too.
Methinks NBC will regret this.

Saving energy on Nighttime football
November 5, 2007 - 23:40 ET by nkviking75Isn't it just a bit silly to promote saving energy on Sunday NIGHT Football? NBC should renegotiate their contract to carry Sunday night football at noon. That, or move the games to Hawaii.

I blasted their GREEN thing; told them to keep politics out of football.
I also told them to get that Keith guy away from football - I want players and coaches making comments, not some featherbrain who's obviously in love with the sound of his own voice (and thinks he's so witty).

It just never stops, does it? I got a give-me-money letter from Environmental Defense (used to be "Fund") who are selling a cute witty bitty stuffed polar bear they suggest I name "Arctic Arnie"--and that I tell my children how polar bears will be extinct unless I follow their 10 tips to stop global warming. This from an NGO non-profit that pulled in 71.8 million in contributions, 54% from individuals.
Fred Krupps is their fearful leader who rakes up mucho dinero from scaring the kiddies. You would not believe how misleading the 4 page letter is. They are absolutely shameless in their eco-hucksterism. And they bragged about helping ban DDT. Forget telling the rest of the story--just buy Arctic Arnie and turn off a light!
These greedy organizations will end up putting many families who are already struggling financially into the energy poverty line. Disgraceful and sick. They make me sick.
Anyway, I stuffed their labels (with cute bears on them) back in with a few things written on the letter although no one's going to read the thing. But postage is free thanks to them.

What? You don't want an Arctic Arnie? ;)
The most telling line in the letter is how Krupps (or whoever penned the propaganda for him) very slyly says (paraphrasing) : "You might have heard some doubting global warming, saying 'it's not real' but that's not science, that's politics".
Excuse me? This from an NGO that has its sticky overgrown hands all over every politician it can get its hands on. Unbelievable.
At the end they quote one of their own "experts" then they fail to name the expert. Sloppy letter all around. Clearly aimed at those ignorant of contradictory information or who get sucked in by emotional exploitation.
