House Democrats to Offer Resolution Condemning Rush Limbaugh

The smear campaign against conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh will take a dramatic turn Monday if Greg Sargent of TPM Election Central is correct.

According to a blog posting by Sargent Friday evening, "Rep. Mark Udall (D-CO) will be introducing a resolution in the House of Representatives on Monday condemning Rush Limbaugh for his ‘phony soldiers' remark."

Unfortunately, no major media outlets are reporting this. However, Limbaugh has posted an alert at his website concerning the matter: "House Democrats Prepare to Introduce Resolution Castigating Rush Limbaugh on House Floor Monday."

The TPM piece continued (emphasis added):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Sources tell us that there's a lot of interest in this resolution among rank and file Dem House members, and that it may come up for a vote soon. There's no guarantee by any means that this will end up happening, though it's likely that there will be some pressure on the leadership make it happen. Udall, whose office confirmed to me that he'd introduce the reso on Monday, has powerful incentive to drum up attention for it as a Senate candidate in Colorado.

Sargent also posted a "dear colleague" letter supposedly from Udall's office that was leaked to TPM:

September 28, 2007

JOIN AS AN ORIGINAL COSPONSOR OF A RESOLUTION

HONORING OUR ARMED FORCES AND

CONDEMNING RUSH LIMBAUGH'S ATTACK

ON "PHONY SOLDIERS"

Dear Colleague:

On September 26, 2007 the broadcaster Rush Limbaugh told a nationwide radio audience that members of the Armed Forces who have expressed disagreement with current policies of the United States regarding military activities in Iraq are "phony soldiers."

On Monday I will introduce a resolution honoring all Americans serving in the Armed Forces and condemning this unwarranted attack on the integrity and professionalism of those in the Armed Forces who choose to exercise their constitutional right to express their opinions regarding U.S. military action in Iraq.

For more information or to cosponsor the resolution, please contact XXXXXXX in my office at xxxxx.

Sincerely,

Mark Udall

Stay tuned.

Post facto opinion:

Conservatives should hope this resolution is offered by the Democrats, for it would give us a tremendous opportunity to expose the Clinton/Soros/Media Matters/Center for American Progress apparatus. This is especially opportunistic for the press will be all over this debate on the House floor like white on rice given the man in the middle.

Just imagine the theatrical potential of Republican after Republican citing the specifics of how this smear campaign occurred, while entering into the Congressional record the actual tapes of the broadcast in question, as well as the verbatim transcript.

Then, GOP members could offer, again for the record, the various news reports by the major media outlets demonstrating exactly how their information came from Media Matters, and that the press representatives involved clearly ignored all journalistic principles by just accepting this organization's word regarding what Limbaugh said.

Once that evidence was presented, House Republicans could enter into the record all of the information concerning Media Matters, including its benefactors, its connections to various political leaders, and its tax exempt status.

Next, said Republicans could point out that Congress just last year passed the Stolen Valor Act to address a number of abuses of so-called "phony soldiers."

Maybe even more delicious, the person who introduced this legislation in 2005 is a member of Udall's Colorado delegation, Democrat Rep. John T. Salazar.

Wouldn't that be a marvelous debate to be in attendance for?

As such, please Rep. Udall, do all right-thinking people in America a favor, and offer this resolution tomorrow. Even though your Party will end up looking quite foolish, you'd never the less be doing your country a tremendous service unlike the phony soldier Rush was really talking about.

These jackasses are real

These jackasses are real losers. Let them go ahead and lie. If they really think they are going to win any political points with this crap, they are insane. Maybe 25 years ago they would have gotten away with it, but not in 2007.

I hope they go for it:

These guys have already beat this thing into the ground; now they are going to exhume it and beat on it some more.

I hope they go for it: somehow they will have to produce a quote where Limbaugh says "soldiers who criticize the war are phony soldiers."

It was actually his caller that said that to criticize, they never talk to real soldiers, they have to pull these soldiers up out of the blue.....and Rush said "phony soldiers."

Wouldn't you love to hear that entire exchange played on the floor of the House, and then ask the Dems to show where Rush said that soldiers who criticize the war are "phony soldiers"?

They could hear the testimony of Jesse MacBeth, who WAS a phony soldier where he said he and the soldiers he was with had killed hundreds of unarmed civilians, they would burn their bodies, hang their bodies from rafters in the mosques..

Does that sound familiar, Sen. Kerry?

If he's smart he'll shut his mouth during this.

mb

Agreed,  I hope they do "go for it".

It will show, once again, how totally ineffective they are at producing anything whatsoever of substance.

Knocking down a non-statement doesn't require too much acumen, does it?  In fact, it shows them for the incompetent boobs they are, yes?

Go Dems in the House, Go!  I'm behind ya'll here.  Prove to us how totally inane & useless you'all totally are!  Rah, Rah, Rah!

Blonde, I hope so too but..

I think Udall will have a sock stuffed in his mouth by Morticia Pelosi before that resolution ever sees the light of day.  I can't believe they would be THAT stupid to open up such a pandoras' box....

hmmm then again....Pelosi, Dingell, "Patches" Kennedy, Barney Frank...They do have more dummies on their side of the isle than a mannequin warehouse. Never mind you are right...

Yeah, I always laughed when

Yeah, I always laughed when Limbaugh called him "Lurch."

I got a chuckle. Thanks. I

I got a chuckle. Thanks. I also like "Bela Pelosi."

Ignorance is bliss. It's easier to repeat a mindless slogan than to do some actual research.

Condemning Rush Limabugh is only going to help him

UFB. These same people whined and moaned about Ken Starr's endless investigations being "a waste of taxpayer's dollars and time," yet they pull this shit????

Go ahead, Dems. This is utterly meaningless, and I pray the most it does is bring Rush new listeners, and makes your approval ratings drop even LOWER!

Where is the resolution to condemn John Edwards c

I will give a donation to any congress person who can get this to be voted on. Sorry John not all Blacks are criminals.

I hope they do it

And Rush makes the Democrats look like the fools they are.

Can a Republican introduce this?

I strongly suggest we get a REPUBLICAN  TO INTRODUCE THIS!

All of the benefits above are realized - along with the additonal benefit of being able to say we "tried to do the right thing against that nasty Rush Limbaugh:)!"

How much do you wanna bet

How much do you wanna bet the spineless Republicans will go along with it to cover their rears, instead of calling the Democrats on their outright lie.

I have the same fear. Too

I have the same fear. Too many of "so-called" Republicans in Congress. We need some with real backbones. I need to hear Rush do a montage of Republican after Republican just blasting away at how this whole thing is a lie and how Dem after Dem just ran with it. I need to hear a Republican on the floor fire both barrels.

Hey, NB staff! how many of you are in DC that could just slip a printed copy of your site under a reps door? you guys sending out e-mails like Georgie gets from the dems?

Republican party is full of Moles

The Republicans you are describing as having no backbones only seem that. The truth is they have no moral fiber, if they did, they would immediatly react with condemnation. I suspect they are Dem moles and revert to liberals when they think no one is looking.

No Moral Fiber

Do you want to call them Joe Scarborough's?

Yes, you are even more annoying than Blonde.  the EYE

You're absolutely right.

You're absolutely right. Part of the reason the conservative agenda has been at such a standstill is due to spineless Republicans unwilling to stand up to the MSM destruction machine. It's somewhat understandable, considering that Reaganite conservatives are automatically targeted for assassination.

But, I'd love to see just one Republican stand up to them. Just once, even though I know it'll never happen.

Boy these dems are so

Boy these dems are so pathetically transparent.

They had to eat a sh*t sandwich and condemn moveon.org so now now they want the republicans to take a bite.

It ain't going to work. Anyone who who knows  a smidgen about Rush knows he honors the military, just the opposite with moveon.

Phony Congress

Phony soldiers isn't the only problem we face in this country. We also have phony congressmen, phony senators (Hillary), phony journalists, phony organizations that create phony ads (moveon), phony, fake, and illegal aliens, phony national guard documents, phony GW statements, and a whole lot more.

Rush

Just another example of Dems hiding their true feelings by taking something a Republican (especially Rush) said out of context.  These people aren't even good Democrats!  Harry Truman is probably turning in his grave.

Mark Udall Poster Boy for Stuck on Stupid

I hope the GOP gets off it's butt and starts exposing this. There are numerous Democrats running around as "soldiers" now. I outed a "captain" who was exposing Iraq "crimes" which Bush knew of .......problem was this "captain" was a grunt national guard type.

The DOJ certainly can indict all of these hucksters and when 100 of them all line up as democrats and you start finding out their phone records are all chirping at these Soros outlets trying to get stories planted.........the entire Udall scam gets exposed.

Just why is it that Conservatives have to wait for Bill O'Reilly to get hammered before they start figuring this dirty tricks garbage got George Allen and a number of Congressmen removed from office?

Larry Craig was outed by this same bunch and that cop in Minneapolis I would like to see his phone records in just who he was chriping at like a birdy on a wire with the DNC. These are dirty tricks operations run right out of forgegate with cartel, CIA socialists and DNC operatives. It is all Watergate ILLEGAL.

I listened to that exchange

I listened to that exchange and I think Rush made a good point -- people like Jesse Macbeth who washed out of basic and Scott Thomas Beauchamp, the TNR writer who was a soldier but wrote lies and distortions to advance his literary career, ARE phony soldiers. Generally El Rushbo generally scores good points and the left hates him for that and hates him for having an audience, which moonbat radio has never been able to draw. It's like Olberman dissing O'Reilly for killing him in the ratings. The presumptive view of the left is they have all the good ideas and all the real talent but dammit somehow these people like Limbaugh capture the audience and that's a cosmic injustice. So in response they distort, smear and generally preach to the converted.

Since when are Democrats

Since when are Democrats concerned with the military?

They tried to throw out overseas military ballots during the election of 2000.

This is a desperate act by the Democrats to smear Rush by taking his words out of context. They are in bed with the media spin masters.

P!ss on them.

As soon as I am through

As soon as I am through here, I am going to e-mail my congressman to not only oppose this measure, but to read into the record exactly what Rush did say. I will also ask him to introduce a measure that censures Rep. Udall for using the House floor for the purpose of slandering Mr. Limbaugh.

Context

TotalKaosDave

This is right in line with Demoncrat philosophy - to condemn the phony soldier story regarding phony soldiers. SO if the phony soldier is NOT phony, according to the Demons, then Demon logic would tell us that REAL soldiers are the phony soldiers. This is right in line with their agenda and hate for the military. Thanks for clarifying that for all of us Udall.

the New Hollywood/Media Party

The Dems in congress, by taking the race-baiting baton from the ultra-liberal drive-by media and running with it, have lost all credibility as a respectable party and have now shown themselves to be a pariah within this nation's political system. The Hollywood media elite now run the party, not the Dem leadership and not the DNC. The old Democratic Party has expelled its last gasp and the new Hollywood/Media cyclops has stood up upon its cloven hooves and is seeking the blood of the unborn, the disabled, boys and their fathers, and anyone so bold as to call themselves a patriot or a Christian.

RIP Democratic Party, and a pox upon the New Hollywood/Media Political Machine and their mindless zombie loyalists. No condemnation is too strong when used against their atheist/Marxist/anti-American agenda. May they and their party meet with the same fate as their fascist idols Mussolini and Goebbels and that hour is now overdue.

I usually support Rush

I usually support Rush Limbaugh and enjoy his show from time to time. However, this is one incident I can't tolerate. The brave men and women of our military are fighting a scary war, for freedom. For Rush Limbaugh to say they are "phoney soldiers" is an insult to everyone who has ever wore the uniform. When Rush made fun Parkinson's disease by mocking Michael J. Fox as a shaking-mess, I forgave him. When Rush insulted African-American's for the NFL, I forgave him. However, I can't forgive someone that mocks our brave soldiers. This is not politcs; you either are with our military or you are against them. Apparently, Rush is against them (as is anyone that supports Rush on this issue).

Get a Grip

I think you need to look at the video.  The man he was talking about flunked out of basic training.  Ever been to basic?  It is difficult to flunk.  This man pretended to be a soldier in Iraq when he didn't even make it out of the US.  Do more research before you comment.  You look foolish.

Sure you do.

Seminar Caller

On Rush's show these are the first words of a seminar caller "Rush, I am a long time listener and almost always agree with you, until now  . . . ."  He says they get their talking points from the lib websites then call his show.  Apparently now they have their talking points for conservative websites too.  Transparent.

“Government’s first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives.”  Ronald Reagan

I posted a similar comment

I posted a similar comment calling her a seminar caller (or so I thought) but I don't see it here; maybe I put it in another thread, or didn't hit the "Post" button.

Anway, I said her repeated use of "our brave soldiers" was another tipoff. It's the language of politicians when they "speechify." Regular people don't talk like that...don't feel the need to specify that the troops are brave....that's just understood.

That a liberal would forgive Rush for the Michael J. Fox thing and the Donovan McNabb thing is a Spandex stretch.

Update: just found my first posting....it got pushed way down. Oh well, that's OK. Glad to know at least I'm not nuts....well, I might be, but that's not evidence of it. LOL

You're not a very good liar, mrsimele.

You "usually support Rush?"   bwahahahaa!

In your post you "forgave" him for the NFL quarterback incident...you also "forgave" him for the Michael Fox incident...

Well, dearie, supporters of Rush find nothing to "forgive" in those incidents.   Just like this current smear, his supporters recognize that those were phony, trumped up charges.

And are you stupid enough to think anyone here believes your "support the soldiers" lies?   (Yeah, you probably are that stupid) What a douchbag....

Rush blamed for things he did not say

Rush did not mock Parkinson's disease nor did he insult "African-Americans for the NFL." In Missouri, Michael J. Fox came on to tug heart strings to push embryonic stem cell research funding. Rush criticized that unfortunately successful ploy to push spending of dubious utility and less dubious questionable morality. Rush thought sports observers were going easy on Donovan McNabb, who was having problems leading the Eagles, because the quarterback was black. In the first instance, Rush was brave; in the second, foolish.

The transcript of what Rush said on soldiers--available at Media Matters--does not support the conclusion mrsimele, Rep. Udall, and some others think was based on his remarks. I followed a link to that site and read the remarks. He said "phony soldiers," yes. But he did NOT say that those diagreeing with U.S. military action in Iraq are "phony soldiers." An intern reached that conclusion. The transcript does not back his notion up. People at MSNBC who ran with what Media Matters claimed greatly harmed the network's news credibility. Here are the most relevant transcript remarks:

LIMBAUGH: There’s a lot more than that that they don’t understand. They can’t even—if—the next guy that calls here, I’m gonna ask him: Why should we pull—what is the imperative for pulling out? What’s in it for the United States to pull out? They can’t—I don’t think they have an answer for that other than, “Well, we just gotta bring the troops home.”

CALLER 2: Yeah, and, you know what --

LIMBAUGH: “Save the—keep the troops safe” or whatever. I—it’s not possible, intellectually, to follow these people.

CALLER 2: No, it’s not, and what’s really funny is, they never talk to real soldiers. They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media.

LIMBAUGH: The phony soldiers.

CALLER 2: The phony soldiers. If you talk to a real soldier, they are proud to serve. They want to be over in Iraq. They understand their sacrifice, and they’re willing to sacrifice for their country.

How can one tease the claimed Rush remark out of that? My conjecture: the intern did an imaginative turn, mostly because he or she so much wanted to hang something on Rush. The others, including MSNBC staffers and personalities, plus a raft of Democratic Party officials, are guilty of not double-checking the transcript, of not checking with Rush, and of following a Media Matters claim as though it were the truth.

Worst Spin

At worst, you can say it is unclear what he meant from the transcript above.

At no point can you find a quote that implies he believes troops who disagree with the war are "phony soldiers".

This is what Rush calls a

This is what Rush calls a "seminar caller": a liberal who was taught to call and pretend to be a supporter most of the time, (even through the Michael J. Fox episode and the (fake) Donovan McNabb brouhaha), but he/she just can't go along with this.

mrsimele's repeated (and phony IMO) use of the phrase "our brave soldiers" is a tipoff. It's the way politicians talk when "speechifying." Regular people who support the military don't feel it necessary to specify that they are brave; it's understood.

motherbelt, I know what

motherbelt,

I know what you mean about the "our brave soldiers" thing.

Whenever I hear a Dem or Liberal say it, I can't help but think it's like a phrase in a foreign language to them that they had to learn.

Despite how often they practice saying it, it never seems to come out sounding right.

It is beyond belief...

That this pack of inmitigated dunderheads would even consider action like this.

It's taken out of context, it's media fluff, but even if it weren't, and Rush were an anti-troop ranter, his First Amendment Rights trump all of this.

That Dims would waste.... ah... forget it.

They're beyond stupid.

Phony Republicans!

Congress and especially the senate is loaded with phony-Republicans!  My guess is they won't be anywhere near the debate, it will be the Republican way: wait for it to go away, and than after it's too late, start to defend yourself of just say your sorry and hope it goes away again.

Crazies to the left, and Whimps to the right

mrsimele

Did you read the article of what happened or what?, what Limbaugh said and what the MSM wrote and talked about, where taken out if context

The Irrational and Hobbled Minds of The Left

I hope they do it, and, immediately after all the signatures decrying Mr Limbaugh for his "racism" have been verified and made public, John Gibson and Rush Limbaugh should enter the chamber, set up the video and audio equipment, and then point to each and every signator, call each the liar they are, and demand they resign from office due to incompetence.

Incompetence because not one of these people verified the information for themselves. None of them did their own research. Not one stood up to do what is correct; listen to the whole segment for themselves and not what accept what George Soros and Media Matters fed them and they accepted blindly and partisanly as their "version" of The Truth. Incompetant at behaving as rational and reasonable human beings. Incompetant for taking up the valuable time of those that already know The Truth with silly and partisan game-playing, and ask each be fined the dollar amount for all the manhours spent on this ridiculousness, from inception to voting. Incompetant as regards tolerance and believing one is innocent until PROVEN guilty.

Are these people so arrogant as to actually believe people will fall for this Leftisit and predictable tripe? Do they not understand their names will forever be associated with an unjustified and well-coordinated personal attack in the name of their politics? What a wonderful legacy they're leaving their progeny.

These people should be ashamed and they should wise-up. Now. Following through with this smear campaign will not bode well for any of them seeking re-election. The tide IS turning. Slowly. But, it is turning.

Professional character assasins will be held accountable.

If they want to play this game, why isn't Barack Obama being castigated and belittled by the Members for his saying ethnic cleansing in Iraq is a positive thing?

"So there's no doubt that we've seen some measured progress in Anbar province, primarily because the Sunni tribal leaders made a political decision there that they would work with the coalition forces. We've seen a very modest reduction of violence in Baghdad, partly because entire neighborhoods have essentially been ethnically cleansed. Those are all positive things, but we are now back at the levels of violence we were 18 months ago." - Barack Obama, the Today Show, Sep 12, 2007

Media matters....actually, they don't

where are Media Matter experts when idiots get airtime on Bill Mahr's show and blast the miliatary, calling our troops the true terrorists?

Media Matters seems quite happy to endorse that kind of "Free speech," but when cutting hairs and trying to claim Limbaugh was saying something that he was clearly not saying, they jump "to the defense" of our troops.

I would guess that the military doesn't really want the support of Media Matters....most soldiers know what that group really wants, and it's not a support of our soldiers or their mission

...where are Media Matter

Here's a better idea. Some Republican with balls stand up and demand a Congressional investigation into MediaMatters and the high profile senator directly involved with them ... HRC ... and how the networks, like MSNBC, seemed to just jump head-long with this "story" without even checking on it ...

Also, I am praying Limbaugh has his lawyers ready to file law suits come tomorrow morning.

As always, the democrats

As always, the democrats missed the point. The point isn't that a soldier speaks out against what he's being ordered to do. He's misrepresenting himself.

I don't know about you guys but I call that fraud.

I don't think Rush would've said anything, we wouldn't be here if MacBeth really went to Iraq, really saw atrocities, and everything else he says he saw.

The democrats are licking their wounds from condemnation of the MoveOn.org ad because it ended up backfiring on them. In a fit of jealous rage, they dare not let someone else get away with the same thing even if it means misrepresenting the issue. It's just like the US labeling Iran Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization, Iran had a silly "me-too" moment and in turn labeled US Army and CIA the same thing. It's so deliciously childish, all of them.

I can come to no other conclusion than the Media are seriously trying to spark a domestic civil war.

They seem to want a race war, to somehow "prove" that racism still exists as a national problem, but what they will eventually foment, (if they keep poking at that bear) is a sanguine crusade against atheists and terrorist sympathizers who smugly sit in their ivory towers reading their teleprompters.

I hope you're wrong. However, I think the point is moot, because with this ABC revelation, these folks would be out of their minds to bring this up on the House floor.

I saw little coverage of this issue today. Russert, Steph, and Kurtz ignored it. I never watch FTN, because I can't tolerate Schieffer. Don't know what happened on "Late Edition."

Frankly, I think this ABC revelation could shut this down. How does anyone continue to complain about Rush bringing up an issue that Ross and Gibson reported two days prior? Only the extreme whackos in the Netroots -- and Olbermann, of course -- will continue on this course. Others will punt. ns

Noel,

I don't think the resolution will ever make it to the floor, either, essentially for the same reasons you do. Let's face it, whatever chance it may have had died with the ABC revelation. Where I differ is in my perception of what the republican reaction would be if it were to be debated.

Sure, there would be republicans who would stand up for Rush and even BOR, but not nearly as many as would if this were, say, ten or twelve years ago.

The dems have managed to rid themselves of the "classical" liberals who were once quite numerous in their party, and who held a great deal of power within same. While there were a fair amount of "moderates" voted in in the last mid-term, they are not anywhere near the point of posing a threat to the current far-left leadership of that party.

To a certain extent, the republicans have done similarly, as there are nowhere near as many "true" conservatives in that party as their once was. Unlike the dems, I'm not saying this was a concerted effort put forth by the republican leadership, but the result has been almost as if it had been their design.

What cemented this notion for me was the "immigration reform" legislation that many republican senators supported. It turned out there were far more of them than I would have believed possible, including initially Sens. Isaakson and Chambliss, two of the more "conservative" senators out there.

I have to believe that there are more than a few republican members of congress who are less than happy with the light that Rush, BOR, Sean, Neal et. al, shown on that hideous bill. After all, had it not have been for them, there is a very good chance it would have passed in the Senate.

I hate to say it, but there are probably a fair number of "republican" politicians who wouldn't mind seeing Rush Limbaugh and his compatriates silenced.

Udall and John Salazar

I'm really disappointed. Mark Udall is usually pretty sane for a Democrat, unlike his fellow rep - Diane DeGette - gag! I would have expected him to review the full transcript before doing something so stupid.

As for John Salazar, he usually votes a conservative line. That may be because he represents a rural area that's conservative and is actually representing the people who elected him (what a thought!) or actually is conservative, unlike his brother Ken in the Senate.

Congrats! Rush

The power and impact a person has is measured by the enemies he creates, especially politically. To be condemned by these lying cowards shows that you truely are a mover and shaker in the political arena.

How hypocritically ironic that they want to condemn Rush and don't even mention ABC News for virtually the same story. They use the Phoney Heros/Soldiers that MoveOn and other Soros organizations create to push their phoney ideology, but want to condemn anyone who points out their deciet, lies and hypocrisy. How very "big brother" of them.

I guess they are still stinging from the rebuke that MoveOn generated with their libel of General Patraeus.
