Bill Maher Calls 9/11 Truthers Lunatics (updated w/video)

Something truly shocking happened on Friday's "Real Time" on HBO.

Host Bill Maher called 9/11 truthers "lunatics," and demanded they stop requesting him "raise this ridiculous topic on this show and start asking [their] doctor if Paxil is right for [them]."

I kid you not.

During Maher's "New Rules" segment, he actually stated (video available here, relevant section begins at 1:46): "Crazy people who still think the government brought down the Twin Towers in a controlled explosion have to stop pretending that I'm the one that's being naïve."

The full transcript of this astonishing "New Rule" follows:

New Rule: Crazy people who still think the government brought down the Twin Towers in a controlled explosion have to stop pretending that I'm the one that's being naïve. How big a lunatic do you have to be to watch two giant airliners packed with jet fuel slam into buildings on live TV igniting a massive inferno that burned for two hours and then think, "Well, if you believe that was the cause?" Stop asking me to raise this ridiculous topic on this show and start asking your doctor if Paxil is right for you.

Makes one wonder how he's going to face Arianna Huffington when they meet at her next duck and goose soiree.

there's a saying...

the guy is "one fry short of a Value Meal"

Well in the case of Bill "BDS" Maher, I guess he gets to keep his job at HBO because he is, indeed, not a full, all-out, full-fried Value Meal like these total deranged 9/11 conspiracy theorists...

Are we to hand Bill a medal now? :p All of his vile ranting and spewing of Bush nonsense, now forgiven?

Still, it is comforting to know that he's shooting that truly anti-American crap down, because that is the lowest of all the low derangement disorders. Actually had to listen to a guy I play basketball with imploring me to watch one of those conspiracy videos about Tower #7 or something... I just bit my lip the whole time.

No, but...

Are we to hand Bill a medal now? :p All of his vile ranting and spewing of Bush nonsense, now forgiven?

No, but the thing that makes NewsBusters different from (and dare I say, superior to) DailyKos and the HuffPo is that, when a liberal in the media gets it right, we give them credit for it. Remember, the sub-head at the top of every page reads, "Exposing Liberal Media Bias", not "Blindly Ripping on Everything Liberals Say".

If you don't stand behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them!

Noel,

LOL-After a second look, and even though Maher may deserve some credit for undergoing a fleeting moment of clarity, there is still one problem that requires attention.

That hideous green suit deserves to be shot and burried. The sooner, the better.

So, one lunatic calls

So, one lunatic calls another bunch of lunatics "lunatics". This is news?

I think

One lefter hurt another lefter's feelers because "naive" isn't nice to say. His rule is for them to stop calling him naive about it. I wonder if he got a gigantic applause or if the audience was uncharacteristically and uncomfortably silent.

I think the CIA and the Powers That Be put him up to it because the 911Truthers are getting too close to cracking the case. Bill Maher is a sellout ! And myaaan am I maddd!

Maher in the old days

Maher used to have moments of clarity like this on a moderately regular basis. But that was before he was banished to the wilderness for his unfortunate comment about terrorists not being cowards.  He reacted to this rejection with more than a little bitterness.

Maybe the Bush hate stuff (which the radical Left has used as cover to slip through the palace gates) is finally starting to wear thin on the American people.

Maybe Maher is looking to do some triangulating to protect his ratings.

I agree. That sounded like

I agree. That sounded like the old Maher, the one I used to almost-religiously watch on "Politically Incorrect", before his mental breakdown.

what ratings?

Who watches this guy anymore?  With all the "yes-crowd" clapping and whooping incessantly at anything anti-Bush, it has become all too predictable and inane.

Still, I'm kind of an "onlooker delay" sort of guy so if you can tell me where I can find ratings for his show, please let me know.  I have to see them.

BRAVO!

Bravo Bill Maher! Truther's are idiots. Now, if you would say the same about islamofascist, the UN and the leftist.

Drew Carrey

had a great line about universal healthcare.."healthcare from the same people who brought you FEMA and the DMV." Maher replied with "yeah, FEMA was good until this administration ruined it." LOL! I guess Walter Reed just started falling apart in the last 6 years!

Mahar

Hate to upset the apple cart here, but I get a little queasy when this subject is brought up.

The way I see this issue being framed is that there are only two sides to it.

Either one believes that our government was behind the attacks and successfuly covered-it up, or he or she believes that the 19 hijackers were the ONLY ONES with advanced knowledge of the attacks. That's it. Those are your two choices. If you hold any questions about the way building 7 imploded, you therefore must be shuttled-off to the "BUSH DID IT camp!"  If you ask ANY questions about the five Israelis seen cheering the attacks, or of the Mossad's trailing of M. Attah prior to them, it's off to the "BUSH DID IT camp" for you as well.

I don't like the choices. I don't think our gummint has anywhere NEAR the competence required to carry-out a mission of this scope successfuly. But concluding that our gummint had nothing to do with the attacks does not automatically preclude other governments and individuals.  And what if a nation DID have prior knowledge of the attacks but took no action to either stop them or to inform us?  Should we consider this fact in evaluating our "relationship" with them? And if there are questions about said prior knowledge, should we TRY to find the answers?

Let's not be so simplistic.  It's not an "either or" situation. There are many possibilities in the unanswered questions about 9/11.  To limit the discussion to, "Either Bush did it, or all the questions have been answered," is a form of censorship.

  Huh?

Huh?

????

!st let me state that with NO doubts I do NOT believe our government had anything to do with, or prior knowledge of 9/11

but into never-never land

The plots started 5 years before, the actual planning 2 years before with the training for the ones that would actually carry out the deed starting shortly thereafter -- WHO was the president during all of this??????

the only thing written that I DO agree with is that there MAY have been prior knowledge by some in any one of several
FOREIGN governments

“I would remind you
that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind
you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.”

Just in case yunz don't

Just in case yunz don't know my retort to "truthers" about 9-11:

Yes, I tend to agree with you.  It WAS an inside job.  The terrorists that hijacked the planes took lessons during the Clinton administration.  And it must've taken years to set up all those demolition charges soon after the first WTC attack in the 1990s ... Amazing the Clintons kept so many people involved so quiet all these years ...

SJ

SJ,

What disturbs me about this conspiracy theory is the lack of logic in the supposed goal. After all, truthers believe this was all done by Bush to make the case to go into Iraq and take its oil.

Let's examine the cost-benefit ratio here, and decide whether this makes any sense, shall we?

The downsides of allowing this to happen if you're the Bush White House and you knew about the plan are absolutely staggering. Initially, there's no question that these attacks would cause a stock market meltdown that could lead to a 1929-style depression. Being president when a depression starts is not good for your re-election chances. Just ask Herbert Hoover.

Yet, even worse, if it could be proven that your Administration knew about the plan and did nothing about it -- or, even worse, it was proved that you assisted in the buildings being toppled -- you would be charged with treason, hanged, and become the worst traitor in the history of the nation, also destroying your father's standing in history.

That's the downside.

The upside is that you get a convenient excuse to invade Iraq? So what? If you were aware of the plan, couldn't there have been a way to avert it and STILL incite the nation's ire enough to go to war?

For instance, we could have had ABMs waiting near the targets to take the planes down before they hit the WTC and the Pentagon. Then, after the fact, you tie the whole plot to Saddam, and America is totally in favor of going to war.

Or, better yet, you place marshalls on all the planes in question who thwart the attacks.

Either way, you as president are a hero, and Saddam can be made out to look like an accomplice to a nation shaken by the entire event despite its lack of success.

Doesn't that make MUCH more sense than aiding and abetting -- or ignoring -- an attack that could have demolished our national economy whilst putting you at risk for being hanged and labeled as the biggest traitor in history?

Forgive me, but conspiracy theories need reasonable motives to be seriously considered. The motive here is ridiculous, for the costs FAR exceeded any conceivable benefit. ns

This isn't surprising to me.

This isn't surprising to me. Contrary to what many believe on this forum, I don't think Maher is an idiot or un-patriotic. I believe his hatred of anything the Bush admin does has warped his judgement regarding the war with radical islam. Just because he is filled with hate toward the POTUS doesn't mean he can't be lucid on other topics such as the 9-11 conspiracy loonies. The mistake the loonies make with him is believing because they agree on hating the POTUS doesn't mean they agree on everything.

Shocking?

Why should anything that this brain-dead, left-coast, bleeding-heart, 'do as I say, not as I do' media moron says shock anyone anymore?

It's as Rush Limbaugh says - liberals are angry people - sound reasoning and dealing with facts is beyond them because, if they had to deal with it, it would scare the beegeebies out of them! So they lower themselves to character assasination in order to try and justify their idiotic positions.

I've never watched his

I've never watched his show, probably never will as I rarely watch

well even a liberal can get it right sometimes by accident

i'm not expecting a flash of epiphany out of bill as dennis miller had, but at least he got it right. just as i said about katie going to iraq and reporting on things correctly, getting it right once doesn't get a full pardon on past actions, this could merely be a one time event, an accident.

the ass still drives around in his polluting litl hybrid car. if i could afford a hummer i'd get one and he'd have a 3 year headstart on pollutiong creation on me. i still prefer my old jeep anywith with the 327 i put in it.

lunaticcringeradio

He's just covering his

He's just covering his ass.

Remember, he said the hijackers were brave for staying on those planes while flying them into buildings.

To now give weight to the "truthers" fictional account would really make Maher's idiotic statement look as if he were some clueless fool.

D`OH!!

Medicine

Maher should be asking his psychiatrist what medicine is right for him. Then again, he probably has asked and gotten some. Problem is--- it's not working!

NEVER, NEVER trust a "liberal"

Some folks - too many -

Some folks - too many - apparently have convinced themselves that all dissent is patriotic and noble. And that criticizing their dissent is somehow suppressing their free speech rights or squelching the First Amendment.

No, some dissent is illegitimate and needs to be shot down (metaphorically speaking).

Sure, you have the right to make an ass of yourself. But others have the right to call you on it.

Even if, as in this case, the person calling you on it is the prince of asses himself.

SMG

Right

Right on, SMG. Alan Colmes comes to mind.

P.S. The kind of "patriotism" to which you refer is right out of the Communist handbook. Beware of groups that have words like "Americans for..." or "Patriots for..", etc. Check 'em out before you believe them. It's a mind game used by Marxists.

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

Maher

It looks to me like Maher is just trying to get a little credibility.  Anyone that believes this crap is off the scale, as far as being credible is concerned, and liberals are beginning to realize it.  With the moveon debacle, this week, people like Maher know that BDS has its limits.

How long will it be before Democrats realize Bush isn't running in '08 and they actually have to have a message?

Never argue with an idiot.  They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Never

How long will it be before Democrats realize Bush isn't running in '08 and they actually have to have a message?

That would be never, my friend. BDS is uncurable.

Maher did once date Coulter so...

Bill "Queen of the Bath House" Maher did once date Coulter so now and then he appears to display some good sense. Hmmm...the Coulter thing might be debatable now that I think about it. Don't misunderstand me I like Ann from a distance but I'm not sure waking up to her every morning would be a demand I would place on any man. Yuck Yuck.

Shut up and blog! If you claim to be a conservative, please don't disgrace yourself and conservatism by thinking and arguing like a liberal. Go Rudy!

Crazy People and Bill Maher

It is astounding that Bill Maher who just had on that loon rapper espousing exactly what Maher is now saying crazy is telling HIS AUDIENCE that they are nuts for bringing the subject to him that he is making ratings off of.

While not crazy, I have maintained from the first weeks that the Twin Towers were indeed wired for demolition but not in some sinister government plot. The FBI and CIA had known since the first 9 11 that al Qaeda intended to domino those towers and murder 250,000 people. It is just common busy beaver US government to protect it's citizens with safeguards.

The scenario was simple. The towers were becoming unstable as in the top portion was thought to "pull" the towers onto other buildings which would have caused a huge cauldron in New York that would have taken months to try and sort out. So in saving lives, it was as simple as military operations one sacrificed a few thousand public workers to save tens of thousands more.

Only a Chicom government could get away with announcing this so it was simply covered up as the last thing Americans want to know is their skyscrapers are wired to implode. None of this is far fetched as people of Wyoming, Nebraska, South and North Dakota for 40 years were deemed expendable by the United States government with all those nuclear silos out there which were meant to be bombed by Russian super nukes while the people of the coasts "who could not be bothered with national defense and nuclear missiles there were more important than the Americans of the plains".

It is simply a fact of life in America. Some Americans are expendable and others are deemed more important because connected people live there and are major voting blocks.

None of that is crazy and if Bill Maher would have simply explained to his loon audience 5 years ago a plausable reason for the towers to both implode along with building 3 being caught on radio "being pulled" none of the conspiracy cranks like Charlie Sheen to Jeff Rense would have a complaint.

You just can not tell Americans though their buildings are wired and you can not tell terrorists which buildings are wired or they will become greater targets and a political nightmare in the US government having to pull more buildings which will be hit.

All of these protocols are in place from shooting down airliners to probable methods of taking out smuggled nuclear bombs into US cities. They are not pretty, but that is what we pay the best people in the world to be ahead of situations than be behind them.

9 11 could have taken out 10 square blocks of New York with 250,000 dead. That was the terrorist intent. They failed due to pre planning and protocols initiated (probably set up by Richard Clarke which means all of this will come back to Democrats and be a nightmare in the next election cycle and is why Maher is distancing himself from it now.), but it saved 247,000 American lives.

Maher though has just lost his audience as much as Kos in calling his followers cranks. The liberals built these goofs for ratings, votes and profits and now they are trying to suppress them because as I have stated all along.......when a Democrat gets into the White House they are going to have to do worse than George Bush has ever done, meaning nuclear retaliation.

3 aircraft carriers which are the main battle groups with war experience are once again assembling off of Iran. Things are going to dust up before Bush leaves office and Democrats in Congress have signed off on it. Maher is simply for the goose pate party covering their butts and making sure he keeps his invitation.

Having people disagree with you isn't censorship

Seejay is apparently worried about censorship.  I don't want you to shut up Seejay.  Please keep spewing forth all of the hypotheticals you want..

The real question for "Thruthers" is "What are you going to do about it?".  I will grant that Seejay is correct in every single one of his suspicions....great, so what?  If Seejay doesn't have immigration papers in to another country for permanent residence or has/will join a subversive group to abolish our system of government, I have little respect or tolerance for him.  Seejay, by believing what you do, you either have to act on those beliefs or be somewhat suicidal.  If you think that many people in the government conducted this as a way to consolidate power or to make money on wars, why would you stay living under this government?  Do you think people who are so disciplined as to have been part of something like this will just get "voted out"?  If you can destroy all of those people and property so easily, how hard would it be to rig every vote in every county so that Republicans (I guess these are the "Insiders") win everywhere, every time?  How long will it take for them to come to your door  and take you and your family away?

I truly have no problem with people's ability to imagine the worst, but I do have a problem with people who are certain of the worst and do nothing about it.  Blogging and marching about "Truth" would mean nothing to this supposed cabal of conspirators.  Having a Grandfather who was a "White" Russian, I know something about the time in a man's life when he has to agree to leave where he is from.  Seejay, if you believe what you say is true, I think you would be better off somewhere else.  Somewhere a government is beyond reproach and above suspicion.  This is not a "Love it or Leave it" sentiment, I really just think you should follow your head and heart in order to live in peace somewhere else.  How do you sleep at night with the idea that people driving the bus are murderous lunatics?  Get off the bus Seejay.  South America is nice.

incomprehension

Did you even read my comment?

Because your response is baffling?

He just said that so that we

He just said that so that we can't put him away. He has to seem like he has SOME common sense, or he won't be taken seriously by anybody.

Building 7

OK - so here's my story on building 7's collapse.

As the bumper sticker says, "Sh*t happens"

Particularly when your building has been pummeled by debris from hundreds of feet above, and several buildings in the neighborhood have already been brought down in fires.

Truth This, Mr. Cuban!

That's not what got me...

I was initially suspicous of Bldg. 7's collapse, but then it was learned that the fire beneath it had been fed by diesel fuel which was pumped-in under pressure. For HOURS. Suddenly, the collapse of Building 7 became a whole lot less mysterious to me. Of course, 9/11 is still a scandal IMO, but it's not a scandal that somehow broke the immutable laws of physics.

Diesel Fuel

Well there's your proof! The government didn't need pre-placed charges, they just pumped in diesel fuel to burn it down!

diesel fuel

HA HA HA, there ya go.......LOL thats a good one

jumped the shark

This guy has no relevance anymore if he ever had any in the first place.  Newsbusters should ignore him.  Like Rosie, Al, Susan, Tim and the other lib moonbats from Neptune, Maher should be relegated to the comic pages at best.

Somewhere in Maher's past -- WMD's

Somewhere in Maher's HBO past, Noel, he did an equally clean spot on the ridiculous national pastime which has been focused on the view that it was the Bush admin - only the Bush admin - that lied about WMD's. Maher pointed out, correctly, that Bush had inherited the exact same view from the Clinton administration.

Too bad he decided not to enforce that "new rule," as it remained one of the, unchallenged feature talking points amongst his guests.

Welcome to the Truth about the Far Left Nutroots, Bill

The far left wing nutroots are quite a few bricks shy of a load (and I don't mean that in the literal sense either.)

The nutroots act just like spoiled little children throwing temper tantrums when someone tells them "No!"  They kick and scream because they can't have their way. They have still to learn that they are NOT the center of the world and that to get along in this world they need to get along with people whether they agree with them or not.

Just my $0.02

that's not a conspiracy theory about the deisel

The building had emerg generators feed by several large deisel tanks in the basement.
